Four of us had either a late lunch or an early dinner here. I was craving clam chowder. Seabolt's didn't disappoint! The two ladies in our party ordered a cup of chowder, and the two men ordered a bowl. We all agreed that it was very flavorful, we tasted herbs, plenty clams and potatoes and of course bacon. Two of us had a salad with homemade blue cheese dressing. It was very good! My wife and I shared an order of mussels. They were cooked just right, not rubbery at all. The cooking liquid was so good, we sopped it all up with our bread. Speaking of the bread, it was the one thing I wasn't crazy about. It didn't taste fresh. Our server was prompt and very friendly. This is a good place to eat, but you have to be patient. This place is small and very busy. The food was good, but the service was a tad slow. They should hire a bus boy because the wait staff had to spend to much time cleaning tables and not helping customers. We were sat at the bar, which wasn't our favorite but we got to watch the cooks work and they were super chatty and funny and made it a great time. We would go back, but go early. read more

Poor service - first they skipped our party on the wait list. They sat us took our order and an hour later the people they sat in front of us who we were ahead of ate and left. The other party they sat out of order ate and left. No one back to check drinks ask how things were and still no food. This was my mother's and mine favorite place to go, best wings and good food. I just left hungry because of being ignored and a lazy server didn't want to check. If I'm going to pay $18 for a steak it had better be good. Mine came out half a size smaller than my mother's, we ordered the exact same thing. Server replies im sure it's the same weight. The waitress was sloppy and rude and argued when my husband about how "real"-looking his drivers license was- He renewed is only last week and is 30- definitely a teen with a fake ID. Then she returned to our table and asked our order again, upon realizing she had taken it already she said "oh I was STILL THINKING ABOUT YOUR ID"-- cue crazy-eyes. The food finally came and was little better than frozen shrimp and salmon. The beer was bottled and no draft and none of the order was reasonably-priced. Attentive and friendly service, a real neighborhood gathering place, and a great spot for us to eat as a family. A few of us got the mussels, which were delicious. I got the surf and turf and the "turf" left a lot to be desired. I asked for medium well, and the cut wasn't the greatest plus it was very well done and tough. However, the prawns that came with it were fried to perfection. My husband loved their clam chowder but the gumbo was not very good (I lived in the south for many, many years, so to be fair, I am a stickler on southern food). Everyone who tasted the fish and chips thought they were amazing. We were so hungry when we came in that we stuffed ourselves and didn't leave room for dessert. Next time we visit, I will definitely try a slice of one of their cakes, and stick to the seafood, which is what they do well. Make sure you allow for the time it takes to make everything - we understandably waited for a while with a large group and a large order - plus, the place went from just a couple of tables to being totally full by the time we left. There was also a constant stream of people coming in to pick up orders they phoned in. Calling ahead of time might be best. If you are willing to wait, you can watch one of their big screen TVs and enjoy the hometown ambience. Our meal was on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately. We were hoping for Dungeness crab but it was out of season. One of us got filet mignon and the other the crab and shrimp salad. The steak was perfect. The crab was of poor quality and the shrimp tasteless. I was very disappointed since this is a seafood restaurant. The biggest disappointment were the 2 desserts. One was the chocolate cake and the other was the lemon cake. The lemon cake was quite tasty. The chocolate one was rather dense and might not appeal to everyone. The biggest issue is that the desserts were $8.00 and $10.00 each. The cake slices were too small for these prices. The filet mignon with salad and onion rings was $19.00. For the price of the desserts I would have purchased another steak dinner. The service was great. I'd return, but wouldn't order dessert. read more

My wife and I are on our honeymoon, and her cousin (a local) highly recommended this place. It definitely lived up to the hype. The server was courteous and the kitchen had our order completed within ten minutes. We ordered the Captain's Platter and highly recommend it. The salmon was especially delicious. The coleslaw was a bit flat but it's the only thing that wasn't outstanding about our order. If you're looking for a great local seafood place, visit it for the halibut. Rude, again and again. One young man was so accommodating but he was quickly dispatched to bussing tasks so the supervisor could speak to us so rudely I had to question why I keep coming back for their soul killing rudeness. Even though we had our order in 20 min before posted closing hours, our food was served in paper clamshells, iced beverage was in a paper cup, and one pitiful flimsy white plastic fork sufficed for flatware just so the staff didn't have to buss our table, nevermind the patio tables all around us remained unbussed during our meal; reminding us we were deprived of restaurant china, stainless flatware and barware. So done with Seabolt's. When I asked for, and was given, appropriate beverage glassware from the friendly young man with a wonderful smile, the supervisor came and locked the restaurant door, so we couldn't ask for service anymore. We were not the last ones there and other families were finishing their meals inside with appropriate service. I have been here five times now, at various times of day hoping to be treated with mild respect to enjoy a dinner out, yet there is always some drama over where you may sit, or service, or why they have to treat some people better than others. Above Mediocre!! Almost Meh.. The place: Quaint atmosphere which is certainly casually confined- limited space. Staff was friendly but did notice people staring blindly in space for service (and it wasn't a packed house). I ordered take out and still was offered samples of their tasty fish pates. The Food: Menu was simple and too the point. Food was as expected for fried goodness... could care less about fried salmon or halibut - sliced to thin, dry and ugh!! Oysters were large (possibly eastcoast decent), shrimp scrumptious, fries yummy, who can screw up cod (?), but butterflied shrimp, calamari and calms forgettable. Next time intend to try a soup and sandwhich... anyway but fried. What I like and love: The fresh options and tasty treats. I have yet to understand why so many people rave about this place. I moved to Oak Harbor about 7 years ago, and have continued to try to give this place a chance. I'm disappointed every time, and my expectations continue to lower with each experience. Once in 2008, my mom was visiting from back east, and we stopped in to get a quick bite. Almost 2 hours later we left. Waiting for food for 1.5 hours is ridiculous but could have just been a fluke. Forgivable for food that is fresh we said. However, the food we found out wasn't fresh. They processed their fish, then battered the portions then froze them. No way to get something not battered here (we were told) unless you went with Salmon. A little odd for a fish processing plant, but our bad for misunderstanding that you were a fresh fish plant and not a frozen food outlet. The fish was no better or worse than any other place. And a few pieces were soggy because the oil wasn't hot enough. The fries were unremarkable, and the chile lime tartar sauce was good but not great. Again though, not worth the price or the general vibe in Oak Harbor of "you must try this place" Another visit with a friend in 2010, this time the service was horrible on top of mediocre food. So eating there was no longer a viable option. Having heard great things about their smoked salmon and other portions from various trusted friends, my husband and I decided to make salmon for a meal we were hosting. I went in and asked for 4 - 6 oz portion of salmon. The owner (I'm guessing based on her action, manner, and lack of uniform) was pulling money from the till, and she looked at me like I had asked for the most preposterous thing ever. "We don't do that!" was her immediate response. I stared at her hoping for clarification on what it is they "don't do" and eventually she said they don't portion out the servings individually. I simply stared surprised that my request for individual portions was so wrong. However, this by itself would have been annoying, but the employee who was in the kitchen/prep area right behind the owner rolling her eyes and muttering "You mean I have to weigh each one individually?!" audibly enough I could hear her in the front. The owner walked away, and the cashier/server pulled out the big filet, and started portioning them out. She did the job I'd expect of someone who doesn't give a flying hoot about customer service, and after almost dropping (and successfully catching) the salmon filets off the scale, she wrapped them and I was on my way. Upon arrival home, and half way through prep of my meal, I discovered pin bones. Many many many pin bones. Across all of my filets. I immediately started pulling them out wondering how a company who is supposed to be known for fish processing that charges $16.99 per lb on salmon (which from my understanding is caught local in the waters around the island) can leave so very many bones in a de-boned filet. So I refuse to return. I refuse to support poor customer service, I refuse to support poor owner attitude, and I refuse to support a company with this attitude. read more

Solid. This is a wonderful place for fish and chips. They have halibut, cod, or salmon as options, plus many of the usual seafood you expect as a casual, relaxed seafood "shack" type place. This is not a shack, but it seriously casual. Every meal I've had here over many years has been spot on great. My family has come here for years without a single complaint. They also sell fresh and smoked seafood. Well worth a stop for lunch or dinner or to pick up something to prepare at home. Limited (understandably) selection of beer and wine. Delicious food with good service. Prices are somewhat high, as the cost of a meal can rise quickly. The restaurant is nicely fitted with a large flat screen that hangs on the wall in the main dining area. On those beautiful summer days, you can choose to sit in the outdoor patio area where you can watch traffic go by on state route 20.
