Despite the fact that they were running the restaurant - just the two of them - and were surely exhausted, they were such a delight. He put on his chef's hat, and she got to taking orders, and we experienced a delicious meal together. Delicious scallops, fried shrimp, and fried green tomatoes! What a gem! I had the Mr. B's Burger with sweet potato fries, and it was more than enough for my wife and me to split. The bartenders were excellent and attentive, and the kitchen was quick and generous. The atmosphere was relaxed, the people were friendly, and nobody seemed to be in a hurry--which is exactly how things ought to be in Barnwell. A few tables over, problems were being solved, fish were getting bigger with every retelling, and at least one expert was explaining how he could have coached the Gamecocks to a winning season if only they'd asked. It had that comfortable hometown feel where everybody either knows your name or knows somebody who does. Good food, cold drinks, friendly faces, and enough local storytelling to qualify as an oral history project. If you're looking for fancy, keep driving. If you're looking for a place where the burger is honest, the fries are plentiful, and the conversation is free, pull up a chair. You'll fit right in.

Not sure about their weekday fare but on Sunday from 11-2 they have a buffet. It was busy but the line wasn't too bad at 11:30 pre-church crowd. The buffet had several kinds of meat, fried fish, lots of traditional southern vegetables, two pasta salads and a potato salad and rooks and cornbread. Desserts included banana pudding, red velvet cake, and a Lane cake. Everyone in our party had the fried chicken although a few samples the fried fish. It was all very tasty and fresh. Between eight of us, we tried everything and all was declared delicious. We didn't get a chance to get seconds because the church folks showed up in droves and the line was out the door! The ambiance was nice and the waitresses checked on us and refilled our drinks regularly although they were very busy. The total for the buffet, gratuity (already included), and tax was almost $24.00.

Not only was it flavorful, but it was served in a regular margarita glass, and it had a good number of sliced jalapenos in it. The chips were homemade, not too thick and had a good flavor and crunch. The chips were served with both a medium heat salsa and cheese and bean dip. We don't usually eat chips, but we could not resist these. We were not very hungry, so we ordered guacamole, soup and appetizers. The guacamole was diced or chunky instead of creamy. However, it melted in your mouth, and it was seasoned just right. I ordered the Caldo De Camaron vs the Shrimp Soup since I like spice and a little heat. It was very tasty and full of shrimp, squash and even mushrooms. It was served with rice and garnish. My husband ordered the Agave Grilled Appetizer that had steak, chicken and shrimp covered in a cheese sauce which was also very tasty and a generous size.
