This was my first visit to this establishment. Agreed to meet a friend for lunch here. I live all the way on the Southside of the city so before heading out I wanted to make sure of somethings. The specials/ if I here were any, dinner for two so we could split it. The online menu was a help, but seemed outdated. I have to say even for the drive it was worth it to me. Since I have never been here I took a few minutes to go over the menu, there's a lot to choose from ( love that!) I decided on the shrimp wing combo, fries, and corn-on-the-cob as my sides. The staff was very attentive and helped with any questions, even gave suggestions on pairings. The place wasn't busy as for patrons eating in, but the to-go orders were non-stop! That let me know something good was going to out of this drive. The shrimp were butterflied that is a must for me, and tender, the fries were just standard fries, but they were cooked perfectly, and the corn was the best surprise for me. I expected a hard piece of corn with no flavor, but oh no this was nice and soft nothing needed but butter, so good. So much food , I truly am looking forward to another trip back. The decor I enjoyed, it definitely gave the we are seafood vibe, the music was on point. I was moving in my seat and didn't feel bad about it. The food took forever to come out and there were only eight people in the restaurant! We have gone there for 17 years and we think it has gone down steadily. We have recommended it to many people, mostly strangers but I'm sorry, no more. We went back several times to see whether we were imagining things, but the last time made our mind up. They charge $4.00 per med drink and I questioned it and he just laughed it off and said yes. So for 2 drinks and a 15 shrimp with fries it was $33.52. Now what made me ask for a refund was the 3 idiots behind the counter making a comment that "Did he just complain about a $4.00 drink " I will never go there to order anything. The counter service is terrible, the ladies are very unpleasant people with no personality what so ever. Why when I ask a question about the menu do I get attitude?! They also talk badly about the customers to where the customers can hear them Atleast step to the back or wait till your restaurant is empty. The spot for my quick seafood. They have daily specials sometimes. Today I got 30 Shrimp with 2 sides coleslaw and macaroni and cheese with a drink for $19.99. This was enough for both myself and my husband. They have great hush puppies. And you are able to get wine and beer. This is not far from the airport or the River City Market place. The "whiting" special was absolutely horrible, it was so fishy it was almost rancid, three tables complained while I was there, mine included. The response from the waitstaff was unacceptable, they just said "Whiting is a fishy fish" I said actually it is not, we catch and eat whiting all the time. What really made me mad was an older woman who also complained about the "Whiting" and asked if she could replace it with a piece of catfish, she was told no. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been bothered by anyone's complaints all she said was "I'll tell the owner" well I'm telling you that no one in my circle, and it's a big one full of workers who eat there, will be returning. My dinner was absolutely amazing here. The ladies at the front counter were amazingly friendly and very funny. Upon entering I was immediately greeted and given an opportunity to gaze upon their massive menu. I www definitely pleased with my order. I chose the shrimp and wing dinner. It came with two sides. I opted for the grits and a size of fries. I chose spicy ranch flavor for my wings. The wing portions were plentiful and the sauce was delicious. I will definitely become a regular to this location. This is the first time I thought it was a necessity to write a review right here in the restaurant! Upon entering Seafood Express I wasn't impressed. Nothing about the atmosphere, decor or overall representation of the restaurant was appealing to me. I don't like the fact that there's no table service, so they just have ppl busting the tables. Also, the tables are so close that you have no choice but to brush past ppl in order to get to where you're going. And the chairs are very uncomfortable to me. I ordered catfish nuggets, corn nuggets and a sweet tea. The catfish lacked flavor, the corn nuggets were cold, and even after sending them back I just wasn't impressed, also the sweet tea wasn't anywhere near sweet. We were waiting for our family to come and once they arrived I told them that I didn't want to eat here so we left and found somewhere else. In my opinion the restaurant is mediocre and there are way better seafood restaurants in Jacksonville. Happy Yelping... I guess. read more

The first time we visited Jacksonville we are here and loved it a few years back . My mom really enjoyed it and we visited a few times afterwards. Now mom has passed away and we decided to visit Jacksonville and wanted to try this place again. We visited this place today and it was over priced and just ok. The staff was friendly but the food was mediocre and the fish was thin. My daughter ordered the side salad which came without cheese but was fresh. The price was 2.99 on the menu but I was charged 3.99. I did not see a sign that stated there was a fee to use a credit card by I was charged $1.17. The restroom was clean but no soap in the dispenser they just put the big container on the sink. Would I return..... nope. Enjoy the $30 I worked hard for! read more

We assume they are comp'ing the item since it was their mistake. We finish and as we are halfway out the door, he stops us and says we need to pay for the side item. Really? At the very least he should have brought the bill when he brought the item when we were almost done with our meal. I've been here several times over the last few years and have yet to be disappointed. They used to have a billboard behind NAPA Auto Parts that advertised 30 shrimp for $9.99. The menu price was higher but you would get the $9.99 price if you mentioned the billboard. Tonight I chose the Flounder and Shrimp with rice and green beans and a drink. All of the food was really good, I was especially happy with the rice. The batter used on the fish and shrimp is not too heavy and not too light. I've never felt that the food was overloaded with grease. Service is always on point with the time it takes for your food to come out, providing extra napkins or cocktail and tartar sauce. The servers/runners are always friendly as well. Be advised, you get handed a cup and you make your own drink; your choices are the basic Pepsi fountain drinks, sweet tea and unsweet tea. There is a small drink cooler as well but I've never paid attention to the choices. They have a small wine/liquor selection, again, I haven't paid attention to the selection. read more

Decided to visit due to the shrimp special that happens on the 15th & 30th of each month; it includes 30 shrimp and two sides. I placed an order over the phone & picked it up shortly after. First and foremost, I was short 3 shrimp. Not really a deal breaker considering I definitely wasn't going to eat all 30 at once but I was just a tad disappointed that I was missing a few. For my two sides I ordered a baked potato and fried okra-which turned out to be an up charge that I wasn't informed about but, no big deal cause I wanted it. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the quality; the okra seemed to be underdone so it definitely wasn't worth the up charge in the end. The tartar sauce wasn't the greatest and potato was slightly burnt. The restaurant appeared clean and my pick up was very smooth. We called an Uber and arrived at 10:32pm. The sign was flashing OPEN outside but when we walked in they rudely informed us they were closed. The hours say they are open until 11pm?? We told them we took an Uber and asked if we could just get some food to go, but they were not interested in staying one second longer. Which turned out fine since non of it was very good. The gator tail was tiny little chewy chunks. The fish tasted like it was prob frost bitten and very old. The grits have to be instant and had no flavor at all. The mac n cheese had an awful flavor that I can't even describe. Stay far away from this place. Seafood Express and More was a slight surprise bargain for the buck. On the 15th and 30th of the month they run a special which is 30 Shrimp and 2 sides for $9.99. On arrival at the location, I noticed people taking take out bags with multiple containers in them. Out of Curiosity I asked one of the men carrying the plastic bag which was loaded full of containers, if the shrimp were good and he reply yes they're good to me. I immediately hopped out of the car and proceeded to the front door. What I found on the inside was tables packed with people scarfing down on mounds of fried shrimp. The decor is a fisherman theme. They use space very wisely being that it was packed I didn't have the feeling of someone breathing seafood breath down the the back of my neck. You order your food from the counter and seat yourself. There isn't table service so don't look for the waitress/ waiter. However, there are busy boys available to keep the place clean and bring missing items ie silverware and plastic bags and containers to go. The have a self serve beverage station, which is cool. They have a choice of teas, lemonade and sodas. The shrimp were meaty, crispy light coating and a nice size for finger food. I picked corn and french fries as my side of choice. All in all I will be returning to get my mouth on thoes shrimps again. read more

The manager, as she described herself walked around to all the white patrons and apologized to them for their wait and offered them free dessert or anything that she could do to makeup for the incontinence.
