My husband and I just went yesterday for the first time. It's in a shopping center so you have to look for it. Going in we were seated right away and drink order taken and brought. We both wanted the buffet so off we went. The crawfish and boiled shrimp were tasteless and the crawfish tasted old and totally disgusting. I should've known better but thought maybe. The egg rolls we hard and probably had been out there for awhile. One thing I did enjoy was the hot and sour soup. It was good and hot. The sushi was ok but again just didn't taste fresh. I'm just wondering if they are not turning the food over and it sits out and dries. The sugar biscuits which I love, were hard as a rock. We came on a Sunday, so it was very busy, but we were sat right away. The restaurant is spacious, with two dining areas, so there's plenty of tables. What I loved about this place is that they have a sushi bar and hibachi grilling area, where they cook your chosen raw items in front of you. I suggest bringing a couple of dollars to tip the sushi and hibachi cooks if you choose those stations. There's plenty to choose from in this buffet, from savory choices like clam, mussel, shrimp, fish, chicken, pasta, pizza, salad and soup, to sweet treats like fruit, pudding, cookies, pie and ice cream. Flavor-wise, the hibachi steak and noodles with veggies I got were my favorite. I'd come back just for a couple rounds of that! Next best thing was the sushi. It was light and fresh. The guy was making more rolls when I got to the sushi bar. They make sure to keep it stocked. Some of the less tasty items were the pizza and cake. I did have a slice of warm apple pie and a fried donut, which were delicious! Our server was very attentive and came by several times throughout our meal to clear the table of old plates and refill our drinks. I always appreciate attentive service! I usually go during the week because of the great lunch price of $11.99! The food was rather dry/ hard not really seasoned. I got the sesame chicken it was very dry very hard it seemed like it was cooked a day prior and microwaved for today's serving. The veggie egg rolls were hard the bourbon chicken was pretty dry. The rice was about the only thing that wasn't overcooked. I complained to the manager he did offer me a discount which was at least a step but it wasn't enough to not leave my review. If you have the extra money or extra time to go elsewhere for better quality food something that clearly wasn't made yesterday and warmed up for today please do so you'll thank yourself later and save yourself the disappointment. Restaurant was clean and food was delicious but despite that the vegetable spring rolls on the buffet had gone off, WAY off and immediately had need running to the restroom to vomit violently. I confronted the manager both in Chinese and English and got a simple sorry and nothing else. There was no compensation and I was expected to pay the entire bill. My spouse was also ill. This is sad because the rest of the food was quite good and has been in the past. As a retired Chef de Cuisine of 19 years, I can forgive a lot of things but not when a restaurant puts customer's health at risk and does not accept responsibility. I thought I would give Sakura a try based upon a recommendation from a friend. But this was a big disappointment. The hot food was only warm and the cold food was warm. I tried a lot of different dishes and only a couple of them were decent - fried wontons and dumplings were both good. The have several American dishes that I have not see at other Chinese resturants - pork chops, fried fish, polish sausage, Mac n cheese and fries. STAY AWAY. This was my aunt's favorite restaurant so she was eager to return and have lunch there after a few years of not dining there. We arrived at 3:30 but were not told that it was dinner menu and prices. We served ourselves from the food in the middle avoiding the food marked "Dinner Only" and sat down to eat. Very large buffet area, nice selection of sushi and has a hibachi area. My family and I visit when we don't really know what to eat but are hungry. Staff at sushi bar and hibachi aren't always approachable, I've had to ask them to refresh some items and I've been brushed off,given the wrong answer or my favorite pointed in a general direction left to figure it out on my own. I didn't have many expectations for the newer restaurant on the block opposed to their competition on Atlantic blvd. upon entering it didn't take very long for us to be greeted and seated. It was a bit bleak in the restaurant. Also had a sort of every ambience to it. I hoped for a little better and didn't even want to finish the small bit of food I got. Everything tasted as if it were cooked 2 months ago and had this fishy aftertaste. The only somewhat fresh food was available at the bar held by a few employees that I'd give maybe a 2/5. Even the noodles at the bar were charred and stiff. As far as my personal ratings go, I would not return, nor recommend to anyone else. Food: 2/10 Service: 6/10, the employees seemed to be trying. We came in on Thursday July 8th at about 3:20pm. Their timings suggested that we were just in time for lunch. While the restaurant is an all day buffet, I believe there are a few items that change for the dinner buffet part of it, as well as the price. They honored the lunch price for us which was awesome. We were greeted by the host who confirmed that there were three in our party and then went on to guide us to the table. Now, I understand that this is a buffet and i don't expect word class service and the host darting to the table and yelling "What to drink?" before we even sat down, was not what I was expecting either. The mean itself good chinese buffet food. My standard for chinese buffets aren't high. My advice to anyone looking to go fo the buffet, go during peak hours where the food is more fresh and hot as more people go through it quicker. There were some items, like the fish and pasta, that were literally ice-cold. My second recommendation to you, if you do find yourself at these off peak hours, fear not for you can just build your own dish by adding in all the raw ingredients on a plate and handing it to the gril cook who will cook it al up for you and put it onto a new plate. I only ended up taking a picture of my deserts since I didn't enjoy too much of the food since it was cold and stale food. I still give the place 4 stars for variety of food, there was a huge buffet for the price we paid to eat. They had no repeats on anything and everything you could think of including Sushi. The texture was almost perfect, definitely better than their stuffed shrimp, where the stuffing was dried out and tasted like crap. Fried rice was bad. A lot of the stir-fry stuff is bad, but just normal Chinese buffet bad. Lol. Quite a bit of fresh seafood for the cost. They even had whole crawfish sitting on the buffet line. That's pretty nice. The sushi tastes better than your average buffet as well. Some don't even look safe to eat and I was hesitant to eat it. However, I tried the things that appears fresher and not to my surprise, it was bad. It wasn't fresh and the meat was dry! The ONLY thing that was good was the sushi. I should've tried the grill and made my own concoction, but I wasn't sure what sauce they use. It's not like Mongolian where you choose the sauce you want. I did a little hibachi and one plate from the hot bar selections, I must say the food was appealing to the eye but some of the chicken from the hot bar was so chewy I had to spit it out and a lot of the chicken had the same taste. The hibachi looked good after he whipped it up, but unfortunately a few bites in I had this weird taste and it had to of been one of the meats. I've been coming here for the past 3 years now and I really like the seafood selection Sakura has to offer. The place is very spacious and the receptionists are friendly and welcoming. The overall atmosphere is definitely better than other near by buffets. I never have to wait long to be seated even on holidays with big parties because the place is big enough to accommodate any amount of guests. My favorite is the crawfish and clams. The flavors are on point, sweet and sour, pretty fresh most of the time. They also have made to order Lomein noodles of your choice, the teriyaki sauce is the bomb. The ice cream is so delicious and so are the rest of the cakes and fruits. It's pretty inexpensive for the amount of food you're able to get here. Lunch is $2 cheaper than dinner. We normally lay around $7+$14 tips for party of 6 for dinner. The service here is very quick simce the waitresses attentive and friendly. They take away the plates periodically and not leave the table cluttered. The bathroom is my onmmy complaint, it's usually not very clean and always have the typical bathroom odor which ruins my appetite, so I had to avoid using it the past 2 times. Tonight, I was somewhat disappointed with my dining experience, not because of the restaurant but of other guests sitting near by. They were loud and disrespecful to their waitress, using profanity in front of us. They ate for more than two hours and not wanting to leave, I just wish people could have more class and treat others better. We were at Sakura Buffet yesterday, a bum came in started to eat right from the buffet! Even tasting and spitting out the food right back into the buffet! The owner did throw the bum out but did not clear the buffet where the bum spit out food had his hands in the food and used a serving spoon as his personal spoon and put it back. This is your typical, standard Chinese buffet. Things I really enjoyed: cheese wontons, green beans, chicken on a stick, dumpling with gyoza sauce, and egg drop/wonton soup. Several of their meat dishes like the sweet & sour pork and sesame chicken were very tough. I do not like to be wasteful, but I left a few pieces on my plate uneaten because of this. Other items like teryaki chicken and chicken and broccoli were fine, but not great and a bit fatty. Again, Sakura serves its purpose (especially to meet a Christmas tradition of eating Chinese food), but isn't one of the best buffets I've been to or a personal favorite.
