I'm sad. I'm sad this place isn't in St Augustine, or have a location closer to St Augustine. Ever since I discovered this place, I try to add it in when I'm in the area. Unfortunately, I'm not in the area that much, and only once did I make the journey just to come here. What is the draw, you may ask? Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, great vibes! , That said, every meal I have had here has been delicious. The beer is pretty darn good & cold too! Of course, with the long drive...ya gotta limit it. But it's worth it for anything on the menu. I don't know where to start food-wise, I am trying to eat my way around the menu. The gator tail and fish dip are two of my favorites for small bites/appetizers. The Elk burger, the Taphouse burger, and the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich are always amazing....and then there's the cole slaw...yummy! Delicious food, and they have more than just sandwiches. The menu offers a little something different. The atmosphere and vibe are always inviting, and the staff is super friendly. The prices are fair, portions are ample, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is fun too! Not to mention, they give a veteran discount with proof of ID. What more can you ask for? Well, I know what I can ask for! To the owners: pretty please, with sugar on top, consider opening a location in St. Augustine. Not in the downtown area, but the folks north of town need something; they need you! When having my boyfriend and his momma pick me up after a work trip to have a weekend to visit them, they suggested this location for lunch before we made the drive back to Eustis where she lives. They had mentioned seeing some good Yelp reviews, and the menu looked intriguing. I had already had breakfast at a great locally owned place, so my appetite was smaller. What We Ordered: - Oyster Po Boy: my boyfriend and his momma split this, and they both said it was okay though they HATED the gumbo. Very unfortunate as when splitting they had to pay for an additional portion of it. - Blackened Mahi Sandwich: this was recommended by our waitress who started out fantastic, but ultimately disappeared after food delivered so I went without a drink for quite some time. I did eat enough a portion of mine before running out of coke, so I had to pause eating as I need a liquid as I eat. I had split this with my boyfriend, so he enjoyed his fully warm. Mine was good for those first few bites, and really enjoyed the fries. They remind me of the filmstrip fries you can get in Disney's California Adventure. - Coke + Lime: if the machine is calibrated, this is always a win for me! It definitely made a travel day better. We came in at 3 p.m. and it wasn't busy. The ambiance was a bit flat. The service was prompt and attentive. We started with grouper fingers; lightly breaded, fried, and seasoned well. Then, I had the Cajun shrimp pasta, which was flavorful, but the pasta was overcooked. I should've requested it al dente. BF had the grilled fish wrap. It was disappointing; the serving was small and flavorless. The side of collard greens was okay, but it was expensive for $5.95. The food is pedestrian fare and uninspired. I wasn't as excited about this restaurant as some of the other reviews, so I probably wouldn't come back here if I'm In Jacksonville. I got the grilled fish wrap and it was okay but as I ate more it got very fishy tasting. Like too much!! My friend got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and he said it was okay. The fries are really good. Great drafts and quick, friendly service! I sat at the bar for a quick beer and dinner. I'm a hazy IPA type of girl, so I had to order the Hop Lobstah. It was so nice I had to get it twice :) I ordered a clam chowder as my starter. It was suuppppper good. The bacon pieces in it were peak. Very disappointed overall. I originally wanted the seafood combo but was told the sides couldn't be changed and that all options were fried, which was disappointing. I ended up ordering the surf and turf -- a strip steak and sautéed shrimp. Unfortunately, the steak was cold, tough, and full of gristle. The ranch dressing was good, and the collard greens were probably the best part of the meal. My husband ordered the romaine wedge salad. It could have been good, but the plate was too small, so everything kept falling off -- not well presented at all. The restaurant itself was clean, but the service was lacking. I stopped in on my way to the airport to grab lunch. There's a large bar and plenty of tables available for any size group. I sat at the bar and was immediate greeted by the nice bartender. I ordered the shrimp po boy with fries. My food came out pretty fast. The sauce that's served with the po boy is delicious. I was even dipping my fries in it. The shrimp were fried perfectly and there were enough on the sandwich to ensure you get a piece of shrimp in each bite. The breading on the fried oysters was very dark and probably overcooked, but the oysters inside felt properly cooked. The calamari was cooked beautifully, not chewy at all. We got the gator because they were out of grouper but we ended up enjoying it a lot. The restaurant was fairly empty for a Friday night at dinner time, but it was a holiday weekend, so it may have been impacted by local celebrations. Our server was kind and made good recommendations! Excellent place to stop in for a meal before a flight - we arrived early for our flight and parking at Wally Park which is just a few yards away, so we stopped in for lunch. Service from Brooklyn was quick and efficient. I really enjoyed the shrimp platter, though I didn't really love the fried clam strips (The meal came as a combo). Pricing all in including tip and tax was about $30 per person, which is reasonable for the area. The vibe was a mix of people likely traveling through, along with some business people and locals. We were there on a weekday for lunch, so I'd anticipate a more energetic crowd on weekends or nights. It was a good decision. The menu has plenty of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. I opted for the Southern Chicken salad. It came with bite size pieces of fried chicken, croutons, iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomatoes, red onions, carrot straws and cilantro ranch dressing. The chicken was very tasty. My husband had the Taphouse Platter. It was either 2 or 3 fried seafood items along with fries. He chose shrimp and clams, and he substituted vegetables for fries. He really enjoyed the fried shrimp. We were here once before whet they first opened. Haven't been back just because it hasn't come up when we were in the area. It looks like they have live music most nights. A guy named Brad Wells was there tonight and really good. We started with peel and eat shrimp. They were huge, perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Iv was expecting them cold but they were piping hot. That was good too. Our food came right behind the shrimp. This was a disappointment. We felt rushed to get to our entree so it didn't get cold. This is the only reason for the 4 stars. I had the fish and chips. The fish was flaky and moist. Not many places can do that without resulting in greasy fish. It was perfect. The fries were cut like I have never seen. Think twisted steak fries. They had a great flavor as well. We will definitely be back, i just hope they can get the app/entree balance corrected. read more

The shrimp were large and you could taste the spices! They were cooked perfectly! We had a live singer and this is a pretty normal thing. He was good, name was Brad Wells. The manager comped $2.50 ona $24.xx item. I would never try this again. I had to rate at least 1 star, but they don't deserve that. read more

My dining companion asked for recommendations of locally-owned restaurant near the Jacksonville airport. Flying Fish Tap House seemed like the most popular and best choice and it happened to be right next to our hotel! It was an excellent recommendation. Although we ate inside, there is patio seating with live music on this particular Friday evening. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. I ordered the blackened Mahi sandwich with fried okra. My dining companion started out with one of the tap house's own light lager. He advised it was a good brew. The fried oyster po'boy he ordered was delicious and the fries were crisp on the outside, while hot & pillowy soft on the inside and perfectly seasoned. Good portion sizes. This place had great reviews and was near the location we were visiting, so we had to check it out. It was a little after lunchtime, and we were seated almost immediately. The place was nearly empty. So, this is the breakdown of the food Calamari- Not that much as far as quantity, but it did the job as a starter. It was very tender, crispy, and really well seasoned Honey mustard'ish and blue cheese'ish sauce for dipping. We preferred the honey mustard. Elk Burger - It was a bit dry, so my husband had to ask for ketchup. He also requested for it to be cooked medium, assuming there would be a little pink on the inside, but there wasn't. When he later asked the server about it, she advised him that because of the elk meat, if you wanted it to be medium, you would need to order medium rare. She said she didn't know about it at first, and my husband was confused as to why she didn't share that info with him. Kids nugget meal with cheesy grits - My son thought they were kind of good but needed seasoning. He didn't care for the cheesy grits and thought there was way too much "cheese." Fish dinner and fries - It was cooked well and tasted fresh but lacked seasoning. It kinda didn't taste like anything. I didn't even taste salt.  The fries were good. End of the meal ice cream that the server graciously gave our son. He loved it! The service was great, other than not mentioning the elk meat part.
