a lobster and a roll

Lobster right out of the tank! Lots of good menu choices, super friendly waitresses (Sharon), good local craft beer on tap. Reasonable prices. Takes reservations. Planning another dinner there later this week,

cute little restaurant, not so busy on a thursday night. so far the best seafood we've had on our vacation. the seafood linguine wasn't up to standards as it was over cooked noodles and a small portion. the lobster dinner is pretty good, but definitely on the expensive side. honestly dessert is always the best part. would stop by for a quick bite again, nothing too big.

Sea Food Chowder, Lobster Roll, Gourmet Fries or Putin and kids Mac

Nice stop and enjoyed the food and the service. It was the only place we ate in the area so we cannot compare. We had the lobster roll, putin, sea food chowder and mac and cheese for the kid:)

The decor is great- lots of boats and fisherman around the walls with Acadian music in the background. However I'm not impressed with the food. I got the fish burger ($7.50) with add on salad ($4). Although the fish itself is fresh and tender, the breading is a bit salty and the cheese ruined the taste for me. It's one thing to add cheese to seafood, but even worse is that they used kraft single cheese! Service was okay, but our water glasses needed attention for fill ups.

Some sort of chowder? What they have done...

I read several reviews before choosing this place, including the couple who said they came back here twice. Well, maybe they were 1 in a million. We ordered seafood chowder, tasted like milk, watery texture, no flavor, questionable appearance (proof in the pictures), had some seafood... maybe the person who really knew how to cook a decent chowder wasn't there that day. We also ordered the lobster dinner, the "signature" and most expensive dish at this place. It was a small lobster, simply boiled in water, overcooked, no flavor, no salt, not even a lemon... oh wait: with regular butter on the side. We know that lobsters should have a meat ratio of 15-20%, but I didn't even get 3oz. But even having 2oz, it should taste like glory, not like 3 bites of sour, hard, nasty stuff. Sides: french fries (the best part of the meal), cabbage salad, superfine shredded, the taste you would expect from hospital food. Probably like you, I was looking for a great local fresh seafood dinner, the only reason I gave an extra star is for the staff, our waitress was one of the nicest person ever, we know this is not her fault. The owners should taste the food before serving it to the customers and teach them how to properly cook the wonderful seafood they have.

Whole fried clams, fries and coleslaw. Also tartar sauce, which is dope.

So, I wanna start off by saying I love this restaurant. It DEFINITELY lives up to its name. Its a small, no frills restaurant/gift shop, that serves really good food. It's not fast but not slow either. I always order either the whole lobster, or whole fried clams and fries. I get coleslaw too, which is decent. Usually I'll get a butter tart as well, which is fantastic. All in all, a good meal. However on a recent trip, 2 people I was traveling with ordered crab rolls. Dear lord, nothing about these were worth 14 bucks. They were just a small amount of crab on a hotdog bun. Kinda pissed me off. They didn't even come with sides. Like... it might pass if it came with fries, but It was a straight up rip off. Other than that, I still recommend the place, but don't order the crab/lobster roll.

Super friendly staff! I loved their fried haddock fish wrap special - perfectly crispy on the outside & fresh tender haddock on the inside with a regular tortilla wrap and some lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce. Others in my party had the lobster roll and all enjoyed their meal as well. Definitely would recommend!

Came here for dinner upon our arrival in town. Recommended by our B&B. We noted that there seemed to be a lot of locals eating there, so we were hopeful. As stated in other reviews, the food is okay, but not spectacular ... especially considering the prices. However it met our needs. My wife and I each had a cup of clam chowder. Quite good with plenty of meet. If I were returning I might consider getting a bowl with a side salad as my meal. I also had the whole clams with a baked potato and would not order it again. They looked good but were overdone. I could not distinguish the clams from the breading. Our server was fine. Kept water glasses full and checked on us regularly.

Seafood chowder and fish cakes - simply okay... nothing more, nothing less. Meh!

A lot full of cars on a quiet late-May Wednesday afternoon looked promising for a decent seafood lunch. After a considerable wait and two cups of coffee, the food arrived. My two pan-fried haddock fish cakes were definitely hot, lightly browned, and adequately seasoned. Served with a tiny order of slaw and chow pickle, peas, and a dinner roll, it was decent, but there was absolutely nothing here for the eyes or mouth to create an impact. My partners flour-thickened seafood chowder with haddock, shrimp, and cod looked promising, but again was an ultimate letdown in the flavour department. Our simple lunch and two coffees came to about $33 before tip - not a great deal. Bottom line - perfectly adequate for anyone seeking a freshly cooked meal without anything to make it special or unique.

Oh, MY!! Those fresh oysters. Sublime. Heaven.

Lobster dinners were well cooked, tasty, and pre cracked. Plentiful side orders. It comes with butter tarts for desert.

The fish sandwich was fresh grilled haddock, very tasty. We enjoyed their homemade clam chowder. Nice staff and clean restaurant.

L'abri cafe, restaurant et bar - Lobster roll with summer salad

It was one of those places where you finish your meal and don't even want to leave. Our server, Teryl, was so much fun to talk to. She was friendly, attentive, and gave us some great recommendations. We ended up ordering the Crab & Lobster Roll with the truffle and Parmesan fry upgrade, the Large Summer Salad, Tuna Tartare, and the Seafood Linguine. Teryl highly recommended the Seafood Linguine, and we're so glad we listened because it ended up being my favorite dish of the meal. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The only thing that caught me off guard was the Tuna Tartare being served with corn chips. They weren't bad by any means, but I was expecting something a little more elevated to match the presentation and quality of the tartare itself. Between the incredible waterfront views, delicious food, and Teryl's wonderful service, L'abri was a highlight of our time in Cape Breton. If you're driving the Cabot Trail or heading to Skyline Trail, I'd absolutely recommend making this one of your stops. Just do yourself a favor and go for lunch so you can soak in those beautiful views!

I've tried both dining in and takeout at this restaurant during a trip to the Maritime and this is my favorite restaurant of the trip. My tip is to make reservation in advance, they could get packed easily. The restaurant has a bright setting and is located next to the Ocean. Service here is attentive. Our waitress was proactively providing us sharing plates and utensils and kept us notified on the food order status without us asking. Every single dish here was also delicious. Expect $80-$100 per person for dinner. The dishes we've tried include: - Scallop crudo: very fresh and refreshing. Everyone in the group loves it. - Seafood chowder: Flavouring and ingredients are both decent. - Lobster roll with summer salad: One of our favorite dishes. Fresh and sweet lobster mingled really well with the refreshing salad with sweet strawberries and walnuts. - Lobster dinner with steak: decent portion and premium cut of the steak. - Grilled salmon: Not bad but not wowing. - Seafood linguine: Very decent portion of seafood and very flavourful. - Chocolate raspberry cake and creme brulee: Classy way of cooking. Old school but very delicious. Overall, this is a perfect place if you are looking for something nice to eat to enjoy your relaxing vacation.
