There are picnic areas with a covered gazebo and benches throughout the trail to rest. There is street parking in the area. Depending on how long you're staying keep an eye on the signs because some streets are limited to 1 hour while some streets don't have a limit. I have a new found appreciation for this park, and parks similar to it. I thought it was all natural, but turns out it takes a lot of volunteers to maintain it for the public to enjoy. I came here with a group of passionate volunteers on a weekend and we helped plant new flowers and herbs, and removed weeds. I think I'm better at removing weeds than planting flowers. Despite it being a scorching hot day, it felt very rewarding that we were able to give back to a beautiful public space for all to enjoy. I would definitely want to come back here for a picnic and walk to the beach after. The views are romantic and stunning.

It is located exactly where IT IS, at the River's End. The San Gabriel River. This park is on 1st Street & Ocean Way & right before the entrance to The Beach House Restaurant. The San Gabriel Trail begins/ends here as well. Plenty of cement benches/tables are available to provide areas for picnic. There is an area dedicated for tots to run around (non playground), too. Parking is in the neighborhood or you may opt to pay for parking at the lot of The Beach House. Public restrooms available next to this restaurant. Definitely worth a visit, although small, it is picturesque as it is located by the beach.

Everyone knows about mother's beach with the clam water just along the bay. But across the water, this little hidden spot with its cute picturesque view of the waterfront and beautiful homes. It's tucked inside the community of Alamitos Heights along the Marina. There's a parking lot beforehand where you'll have a little walk which isn't much. If you know where the Pete Archer Rowing Center is, then it's basically there. There's a little dirt path behind the center which leads you to the entrance of the trail. It's not a big place but a cute little path that shows you beautiful homes and plants along the way. A good 15 min or so if you walk leisurely taking your time around the whole path. But take your time so you can fully enjoy it. There's also docks that you can walk onto looking out over the water. I didn't know that it's a sanctuary where oysters are habitat. The path is along the back of some homes so be respectful as it's someone's property and leave it the way you saw it, clean. There's benches places along the way to have a seat and just take it in. Native plants growing wild but beautifully preserved. Just taking the time and enjoying everything was quite nice. A quiet place that you didn't even know was here. Loads of flowers starting to blooms at the moment. Also with flowers comes the butterflies. Plus as it's part of the bay, the water was so calm and clear. People were kayaking and paddle boarding while we were there. The view of the boats and homes were beautiful but you're there for the path. A simple beautiful walk with nature. Man made nature but beautiful. Afterwards, you could sit and enjoy the water view along the path back to your car.

Historic dates to significant events are scattered around and displayed on benches. Most people come here for the fishing. The action is up and down, but when the mackerels and bonito are active, this pier gets packed with people trying to get a share. Most days of the year, it's a relaxing spot to fish for a variety of species. There is also no need for a fishing license when fishing on public piers. The cleanliness of the pier has been okay lately. Sometimes there's an unpleasant odor, trash on the ground, old bait, and other debris on the railing. An overall renovation is highly needed. This pier is also shorter than the piers in Seal Beach and Huntington Beach, but it is still a good place to walk and relax. The restaurant at the end of the pier, Buoy's on the Pier, has been closed for years. However, there is a small snack shop at the pier entrance. There are a few bathrooms available on the pier, along with a couple of sinks. A paid parking lot is available and open 1 hour before sunrise, closing at midnight. The lot is relatively clean and well-lit. Payments through self-serve kiosks or the Passport parking mobile app, with hourly charge rates. Vehicles with disabled placards are exempt from fees.

The beach itself is quaint, clean, and has such a relaxed, small-town feel that's a nice change of pace from some of the busier Southern California beaches. We also walked the pier, and I was surprised by how long it is - definitely one of the longest piers I've walked on! The views were beautiful the entire way. If you're looking for a laid-back beach day with cute local businesses and a welcoming atmosphere, Seal Beach is absolutely worth the visit!

There is a playground on one side of the pier. This beach also has restrooms which are well maintained and fairly clean, right by the pier. While walking around and exploring Old Town Seal Beach, we stumbled upon this bright and shiny Red Tower Car! It's located in the Electric Avenue Median Park. Most people would feature the park in their review, but I was more amazed with seeing this Red Car there! It sits on the original tracks! This Car No. 1734 was built in 1925 and was used until 1950. It was a roving machine shop used to address problems along the route, used for performing repairs and maintenance on the overhead trolley wires. It is now the site of the Red Car Museum. It is owned by the Seal Beach Historic Resources Foundation. There are 7 steps leading up to a viewing platform. You can look through the window to peer inside. I couldn't see the details all the way at the back of the car. It was nice to take a quick look inside, though! Fun Fact: Seal Beach was known as "Bay City" when the Pacific Electric Railway first operated through here. It was renamed in 1915. A little bit about the park: It is approximately 0.6 miles long. It's a grassy park with a meandering cement walkway and makes for a serene little stroll. Just know that there are no restrooms here. Also, there's not a playground either, just grass! There are benches along the path. This park is full of large trees so finding shade on a hot day won't be difficult. Street parking is free. Come enjoy the park and take a look at a piece of history!

It feels about 20 F cooler under one of the giant trees lining this street. We love our after-breakfast wander down this windy walkway. Good way to add to your 10,000-step daily goal. Look out for birds, squirrels, and doggos. They are sure to add fun to your little neighborhood nature walk. You can even bring your food basket and a big blanket for a nice little outdoor picnic. A Hidden Wildlife Gem Inside a Navy Base…read more I had no idea this place even existed -- a huge wildlife refuge tucked inside an active Navy base! California never fails to surprise. The refuge is only open once a month for a free, escorted educational tour (last Saturday, except December), and you do need to reserve in advance. Definitely not a casual drop-in, but the effort is well worth it. I went hunting for the threatened Pacific Green Sea Turtle -- and ended up spotting three! We also saw a very healthy coyote making its rounds, and a variety of birds you don't normally see in urban areas. The refuge is also home to endangered species like the California Least Tern and the Light-footed Ridgway's Rail. It's peaceful, educational, and a little unexpected -- a real escape from the city, without even leaving Southern California. Birds you're likely to see: Common / regularly seen: Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret, Great Egret, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Willet, Western Grebe, Mallard, Gadwall, American Coot, Double-crested Cormorant, Black-crowned Night Heron, Killdeer, Belding's Savannah Sparrow Seasonal / pretty likely: California Least Tern (endangered), Light-footed Ridgway's Rail (endangered), Brown Pelican, Forster's Tern, Caspian Tern, Red-tailed Hawk, Osprey, Marbled Godwit, Long-billed Curlew Uncommon: Northern Harrier, Snowy Plover, Peregrine Falcon, Reddish Egret, Burrowing Owl Rare: Bald Eagle Highly recommend for anyone who loves wildlife, birding, or just escaping the urban grind.
