The beach itself is well maintained, and it's easy to get set up close to the water. The biggest downside is getting in. The line at the entrance can get really long, especially on busy days, so plan ahead and expect to wait. I'm not a real outdoorsy or beach type of person, but I always like coming down to Huntington Beach. Always a lot of things going on and it is always fun to run and workout, walk around, or just chill on the beach. On days with big events, parking does get pretty rough and you'll probably have to park in the neighborhood and walk in. Other than that, it's a nice place to go with the family where you can spend most of your day enjoying the scenery and having fun and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. read more

10.3.25: Flew down to visit a friend who lives here and we had lunch on the beach at Na Ka Oi. Afterwards, we attempted to walk the infamous pier but because it was the pre day to the air show, we were told it was closed. My friend said last year it wasn't closed the day prior and that she walked the pier, so go figure. That didn't stop me from enjoying the sunshine, toes in the sand, beach waves, and a mini air show as the planes were doing practice runs. It wasn't as crowded as I expected but there was a pretty good amount of people on the beach and in the water. There were a field of volleyball nets, but oddly enough not a single person was out there playing. I noticed a lot of police and beach patrol, but I attribute that to the air show activity. read more

Lived here my whole childhood and it's really such a beautiful beach. Nothing compares to HB. Pacific City Mall was put in 2016 and it's great to take stop there to check out the food and shops. The website for HB city hall will typically show the events hosted. Also, there are street vendors here often. My favorite part of the beach aside from the pier are the fire pits and the cycling/running sidewalks. Parking can be paid for on the spot with some rates $15, or you can pay to park the meter on the street. If you have a state beach pass, you can park for free. read more

CLEAN BEACH w/ SPACIOUS WALKWAYS! I've been coming to Huntington State Beach for many years now and have visited for car shows, shopping, and beach days. I've had a lot of fun and enjoy the views each and every time. Some days are better than others, the visitors and (some) locals are very annoying at this beach and can get extra obnoxious. I've spotted a few OC Karens (as you do) but my most recent visit was surprisingly peaceful. I came with my family and we walked the beach path. There's plenty of shacks that offer food and drinks. I noticed Huntington State Beach got a bit of a remodel to its buildings and a fresh coat of paint to spruce up the area. Parking is $14 dollars if you're a senior! How do I know this? I came with one! I came during a Friday afternoon and it was surprisingly calm. People were getting ready for Wango Tango, a popular outdoor concert hosted by a local radio station. There was a ton of trailers and staff working the stage but they never obstructed the beach or walkways. They were super respectful. read more

The biggest beach in all of OC. There is the state beach parking lot that goes right up to the sand, but you gotta pay. You can re-enter same day, but on a busy weekend, you might not be able to find an available parking spot again. If you drive down Brookhurst, or Magnolia towards PCH, you'll see parking along those street, but you can only leave your car there til just past sundown. There are volleyball nets, fire pits, and some cement picnic areas with shade coverage. For any of those, you'd have to get there early to reserve. Aside from the lot, you can find free residential street parking near the downtown area on Main Street at the pier. There are garages, and meters, but past that, you'll see free street parking. There are also lots of restaurants and shops there, but there's also some eateries right at the boardwalk in the state beach parking lots. What a perfect California day at Huntington Beach. Our friends are moving away next week so they threw a bon voyage bonfire here for all of us to hang out and say goodbye sort of. Such a beautiful day, the parking lots were all so packed but we found parking in handicap and used the wagon to drag everything to the bonfire, it was close to the canal which was nice and close to the bathrooms. I love this beach we have been coming here since forever, so many awesome memories. Met some new friends, the kids got to play in the water. We all brought food and snacks and had a gazebo, tent, and lots of food and snacks for everyone. We had a great time, lots of playing and so many people at all the bonfires. Our friends got there early and so we had to share the pit with another family which was so nice of them and when they left it was all ours. We had a lot of fun together, everyone around us was playing good music and having fun. When the sun went down and it got dark a whole bunch of decked out bicycles road by like burningman style with so many lights and lots of rave music it was awesome. Of course we had to check it out the kids loved it we did too. What a fun surprise I got some videos and pictures of that too. Huntington beach is one of the best beaches around, it's not as clean as it used to be but it's still so beautiful and peaceful. Back in the day us and a bunch of our friends used to ride the entire beach from Newport to Huntington every single weekend for so many years. Huntington Beach is practically in our backyard. Me and my girlfriend come here all the time in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. I only live in Fountain Valley which makes us neighbors. You get all of the annual festivals and fun. Restaurants are some of the best, and the nightlife is also enjoyable if you are into that type of thing. Come here with the family all the time, close to the house and easy free entertainment for the kids while they are out enjoying nature rather than rotting their brain on an iPad somewhere or being out $1,500 to go to Disneyland..... Beach is always clean and the sunsets here behind the pier are perfection. Love having bonfires at night and roasting some dogs and mallows for our bundles of joy. Parking is $20 for the day I think? Have been a state pass holder for years, it costs $120ish but pays for itself in a few visits, would highly recommend getting the state pass for the year if you plan to visit at least 6 times out of the year. This is our usual beach to go to with family. $15 for all day parking and $20 on major holidays. The public restrooms here are disgustingly smelly. If you really have to use it ... just make sure to bring sanitizing spray or some sort of air freshener. They also don't provide hand soap to wash your hands... so bring your own just in case. read more

I used to live in HB for 15 years. My life and times have changed and I moved to LA County. But after a car show in La Mirada, we made the drive down Beach Boulevard in the Jeep with no doors and no top to spend the rest of the afternoon on the sand at HB. The drive down Beach got cooler and cooler and I had to break out the jackets and blankets for the kids until we got to Sonic (where my boys wanted a snack). The sun played peekaboo between the clouds while the marine layer started to lift. We turned right onto PCH and were lucky enough to land a spot on PCH right in front of the Hyatt. I didn't take out our beach blanket or umbrella since it was later in the afternoon and the kids really wanted to ride their scooters more than anything else. My 4 year old was so excited and ran on the sand towards the water. I cautioned my kids about the water bacteria level warnings and told them we were only playing on the sand this time. My 9 year old stayed on the bike path and rode his scooter up and down next to where we were sitting in the sand and my other boys were having a great time running around and collecting shells and making volcanoes. My wife sat on my lap for a while and used me as a chair and we snuggled as a mild wind tousled her long dark tresses about. It was a wonderful end to a long day that started with a car show where my father-in-law showed some of his cars to a stop at a local drive in restaurant to a leisurely drive down Beach and on PCH in a topless and doorless Jeep. My boys want to come back again, soon, this time with a picnic lunch, their sand toys, chairs, a blanket and a canopy. Not much for them, but a ton for me to carry, as usual... But for a day on the beach with my family, I wouldn't have it any other way. And a day in HB, makes it even better... read more

This beach is huge and is very popular. Today we came around 1:00pm (Saturday) and there was no parking. We tried several lots. It took us 2 hours to get a space. We needed to park close to the beach because we had a lot to unload. I think Huntington Beach should invest in a remote parking lot with trolley service much like Laguna Beach does for the Pageant of the Masters. 2 hours is too long to find a parking space. Even the street parking is limited. The beach itself is nice. They have fire pits and a nice bike path. Other than the fact that it's super crowded and parking is atrocious, Huntington Beach is a decent beach. Just get there early in the morning to set up. read more

This beach was pretty much our only consistent outdoor activity location this past summer during the Pandemic. We used to go here every Wednesday after Ian's school. Entry is a breeze. Parking is plentiful. We spent couple of Hour each time we were here. We parked near the Beach Blvd entrance. The beach is huge. In spite of that, there were lifeguards stationed at multiple locations along the beach. During each of our visits, there were a lot of families who were availing themselves to the beautiful summer conditions. Kids as well as parents were maintaining distancing with nearby groups in a safe manner. (+2) This will surely be a weekday destination of ours in the future. read more

Pacific Air Show, brought the boyz here, because we love the sounds, the speed , the sight the aviation show/stunts. We can never get enough! Luckily, we brought our bikes since we new we were going to park far because we came at a much later time 1:00pm For being free, it was an awesome show. These pilots are super talented! It is an honor to be here, and see their talent! AND as always, The Blue Angels are amazing! They didn't have booths where you can buy souvenirs, get on the aircrafts, salute some pilots, explore , see law enforcement helicopters or participate in other activities that kids like, like the air shows in MCA station in Miramar! However here we weren't disappointed, we love our military and grateful for them! Love America! Proud to be an American! You wonder what on earth I do? Well, hear you go! Most of the time the actual beach is clean and the locals (me) are out on their early walk or run. It is only on the weekends that others are visiting. During the week it is a way better visit. No one is around especially in the mornings. After Labor Day weekend I could not help but to notice the trash left behind. Was it booze? No! Not really I found many soda cans and many water bottles. Anyhow this is my new backyard and I love it! Bond fires are available upon arrival. A pretty price to enter with your vehicle but they do offer year passes. It is so worth the year pass! They offer disabled discounts! $10 for disabled an for the general public $15 No absolute In-or-Outs for NOTHING! Ones you live the parking lot you will have to pay again. Plastic is accepted! Otherwise be ready with your cash to expedite your transaction. Otherwise the line will get really long. So please be ready with $15! or card ready! Kid friendly and dog friendly! It can get really crowded and their parking lot fee is $20 with no re-entry. They do have a lot of fire pits and volleyball ball nets but it can be a hassle trying to get a spot or maybe you'll get lucky. The restrooms are gross but useable if you have to go. Imagine a flushable port-a-potty with no light when you close the door and random toilet paper on the ground. At least the flush is a foot petal. There's also a washing station but no soap where you can rinse off after going into the water. I can't say Huntington Beach does anything more than provide the basics and it's up to you to bring the rest. A source of shade like an E-Z Up is highly recommended. Try to come early to snag a fire pit and expect hundreds of people. At least we're all socially distanced? read more

Best place to grab a bonfire is at the Brookhurst street light off PCH Highway. My photos are at that area off Brookhurst Street. It's the 1st entrance beginning of HB from Newport Beach. There is a booth to Pay for parking before you enter. This area of HB is far from the pier and the crowds if you want to avoid that. One of the bathrooms is currently under construction. Only a few porter potties were available in the front. There were showers spray too near the restroom. We got here around 3:30 p.m. after coming from Newport Beach. Was looking for a bonfire pit but NB doesn't have any bonfire pit. Only area of NB w pits is towards Balboa island and was inform there were only 40 pits available unlike HB have hundreds. Lifeguard says best bet is to head to HB if you want to grab a bonfire pit. Since it is 1st priority. Good thing i took the lifeguards advice. We were able to get one. Within an hour, people were coming and grabbing the pits pretty fast. The pit we grab was a good walking distance from the beach. The area near the pier and Main Street off HB can get pretty packed especially during the summer & weekends. They do have random talented performances on the pier and sometimes a farmers local Market near the pier. Beach closes at 10 p.m. Lots of parking available. This wasn't one of the nicest beaches we've been to, but gave it a few stars because our littles had a blast. First time we've ever been and it was a madhouse with he HB sand soccer tournament running. We had to arrive a few hours prior to even get decent parking, we were also unaware we had to pay for parking, but no big deal. We paid for the convenience, but there is limited street parking if you're lucky enough. The only issue I had was the line set up coming in was not optimal. First day there was a guy collecting cash payments at the front, yet we still had to wait in the long line to get in because we were stuck behind all the vehicles waiting to make card payments at the gate. I'm hoping the beach isn't always so trashy and it was just because of the event running, the bathrooms were beyond filthy, but the port-a-potties provided by the event were surprisingly clean and maintained. The coolest part was watching the lifeguard training, the food trucks at the event and watching our kiddo play in the tournament! read more

There happens to be 3 different Huntington Beach (HB) on Yelp. So here we go again... HB is a fantastic beach. It's usually a pretty clean beach. Tons of people sightseeing, riding bikes, people watching, laying out buck naked LOL, all sorts of fun and exciting stuff going on, etc. I know sometimes events are held at HB just like the 2022 Van's Open recently. They say "Life's a beach". I need to get out to the beach more often than not... I love the fresh crisp air, open breeze, smooth winds... makes me want to do my 1 hr+ drive to the beach right now LOL. Before summer ends, I'll plan for a weekend at HB. Thanks for reading! Yes, the state beach costs $15 to park ($25 some holidays) but the riffraff (909ers) mostly go to the public Huntington beach up north by the pier. 2. If you're a cheapskate and only have one cart of beach equipment you can park along Brookhurst for free and walk to the beach. 3. Weekends are crowded but there was plenty of elbow room on the beach down by the Santa Ana Jetty. Park in the Brookhurst parking lot. 4. If you're here on a busy summer weekend be sure to arrive before 10AM. By 11AM they had closed all of the parking lots. 5. The jetty water comes from the estuary, not from the Santa Ana river. This scares most people away so take advantage of the light crowds. read more

Out of the OC beaches, Huntington is one of the best and the most family friendly! However, being one of the most popular comes with a lot of pros and cons. Pros: Great parking situation! There are about 3-4 lots to park in. The cost is only about $20, which isn't bad! However, let's say you don't not want to pay that much, there are a ton of street parking and about 2 structures. So you'll never have to worry about spending a lot of your time driving around, looking for parking. Cons: During the summer months it is super crowded. Tourists, locals, you name it. So with a lot of people there are a lot of lines and waiting when you want to grab food or ultimately do anything. Moreover, there is a small homeless problem, so that is something that some people may have to be concerned about. Overall Huntington is 4/5 and still recommend this beach to anyone! read more

I just love coming here with the family. Parking is super easy. You pull up and pay your $15 bucks and ur in! Plenty of parking, they have plenty of restrooms and rinse stations. Note/tips: if you come on a major holiday, arrive early (early!!) if you really want a non fire pit. Those will go fast! On a normal weekday or early on weekend, they are usually still available. Other than that, my kids love to play in the sand. Tip/hunt: To catch some sand crabs as the waves drift off the sand, look for the little half circle dip! That means they are underneath!! We also suggest you to bring food/snacks with ya, so you can stay even longer!! Chips soda snacks etc. stay hydrated! Our last trip, my family and I even grilled carne asada!
