My wife and I were patients of Dr. Marcus and LOVED his practice and staff and what I will call the gentle touch of Dr. Marcus and how he embraced patients. When the new guy took over, I went to him for my annual check-up and I felt like I was on an assembly line and it was all about how much $$$ he could get out of me. I had a great cleaning and check up by the RDH and then the new guy took a look at my mouth/teeth and within what seemed like less than 2 minutes assessed I needed a crown, an implant, and I believe it was 2 cavities to be done. I just finished my 1st visit to a competing dental practice, and they said all my teeth look great, no cavities, the tooth that supposedly needs to be replaced by an implant is solid and the tooth is firmly held by the roots so no need to do anything today, no new crown! So, . . . . . WTH? read more

I wanted to chime in here because I've seen a number of negative reviews and I've had a completely different experience. Dr. Marcus was fine but I had several issues with him (telling me I needed my wisdom teeth out at 46 when I never had a problem... and then six month of pain after). Dr. Feely though has been great, and I have not had any issues others have noted. So keep an open mind, he and his staff get my endorsement. read more

Dr Feely did 2 crowns and a filling and there was no pain he was gentle and asked how I was doing along with his assistant. The staff was helpful and kind and I had my crowns the same day. I would highly recommend the office. read more

Note that Dr. Feely took over Dr. Robert Marcus's Yelp account, so all of Dr. Marcus's positive reviews are now transferred to Dr. Feely. That seems a bit like cheating to me. When Dr. Feely first replaced Dr. Marcus, he immediately said he needed to do a crown (Dr. Marcus had never mentioned that). Unfortunately, I agreed and for the next year, I was unable to chew on that tooth. He also did not give me enough Novocain even though I told him multiple times that I needed extra. He wanted to do a lot more work that I pushed back on. I decided to find another dentist who wasn't quite so aggressive. If you ever ask for a dentist recommendations on NextDoor, you'll find lots of people who love theirs. If you don't love your dentist (and I didn't love Dr. Feely like I did Dr. Marcus), there are many others out there. read more

I hate to leave this review because I loved this office when it was run by Dr Marcus. My issue is with a filling that Dr Feely did for me. I have had many fillings (over twelve in my lifetime) and never had any residual pain post-filling until Dr. Feely filled one of my teeth. I was unable to eat on that side of my mouth for at least 4 months, because the pain was so unbearable. I went in for a follow-up and was told everything looked normal. I still (7 months later) cannot floss next to the molar without getting shooting pains. Save yourself the pain and find a better dentist. read more

After years of struggling with one botched dentist after another, I was referred to Dr. Marcus by a friend. My family and I became long-time loyal patients of Dr. Marcus so when he retired and referred his patients to his successor, we happily went with. If Dr. Feely had Dr. Marcus's stamp of approval, he had ours. It's been a bit now, so I feel like I can write an honest and worthy review. Dr. Feely has the same gentle bedside manner, the same attention to detail, and honesty as his predecessor. I don't mind getting dental work done and I always know before my appointment what my fees will be. I can confidently continue to refer friends and family to Dr. Feely. This is a great practice and we've been going there for a couple of years now. I had always had a very smooth go of it with dentists and have had very few cavities or problems over the years. My last dentist was always scaring the hell out of me and recommending and giving me treatments that seemed unnecessary and referring me to other dental specialists for consults on gum disease, etc. It seemed like they were just trying to pump up their revenues. Working with Dr. Marcus' practice and his staff is refreshing in that I'm not always getting shaken down for additional services. I just had my semi-annual cleaning yesterday and once again it was a pleasant and professional experience. He is personable and competent and his staff is great. I recommend them highly if you're looking for a new dentist or tired of getting taken for your eye-teeth by your current one. read more

Avoid this office unless you want to get scammed. Dr. Marcus was great..my family saw him for years. Unfortunately he retired and sold his practice to Dr. Feely. This new practice is all about milking you for money. When we went in for our annual cleaning we were all told me needed all sorts of dental work. It was ridiculous. They quoted my husband $965 for fillings. We have since switched dentists. The same 3 fillings cost my husband $93 all under the same in network insurance. Dr. Feely wanted to drill my son's teeth for what he called "in betweeners". Our new dentist said to brush more and use dental floss. My son's teeth are now fine. Save yourself the grief and take your business else where. read more

I admit. I hate dentists. Not the dentist in particular but the whole process of people fiddling with my teeth gives me the creeps. I think watching "Little shop of Horrors" too much made me feel the fear. On arriving in San Diego- which was 20 months ago I had to find a dentist, I was given a recommendation of Dr Marcus and followed that up. Impressed is not the word. Whilst being professional they are still talking to you as a human being, they dont use too much technical jargon and I have received the best teeth cleaning ever here. I am going back next week for some treatment and it is a long appointment, yet they have been perfectly understanding that I will need to pop out part way through the appointment to feed my daughter! Amazing! Dr Marcus is a great character and is human, by which I mean he talks to you rather than down to you! Definitely would suggest this dentist to anyone. read more

Dr Marcus is as good as dentistry gets. He's been on top of dental technology since starting his career and is way better than you might find with someone less focused on adopting the latest proven advances (such as CEREC instead of standard crowns). He's also a great communicator, he's a lively, welcoming, and sharp, high-energy guy. You'll understand exactly what the state of your teeth are and what the best approach to maximizing their health and appearance. Due to moving homes about 20 times in my adult life, I've had a lot of dentists, and though I always made efforts to select a superior one, Dr. Marcus is the best of the best. I almost have to blush at confessing to one of my life's largest extravagances - when I had to move away from San Diego for six years before returning, I actually flew back to see Dr. Marcus for anything except teeth cleanings. This is by far the WORST dentist I have ever been to in my whole life. First off, the dental work here is absolutely shoddy. He injected so much Novocaine that my eyelid was droopy, and when I asked him about it at my second visit, he said there was nothing he could do about it. This never happened to me at other dentists. Also, he does not use dental dams when filling cavities - terrible! Every single filling he did has since chipped. I am pretty sure the spaces between your teeth are not supposed to be jagged and rip your floss. The whole experience was just terrible. To add insult to injury, I had recently switched dental insurance and ended up having to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket because he was more interested in collecting on the bill (or sending my account to collections). When I tried to resolve the insurance issue, he was downright rude. All in all, I am sure you can find a dentist around this area who 1) actually does satisfactory work and 2) will be reasonable with you when it comes to billing issues. Dr. Marcus does neither. WORST. DENTIST. EVER. Save yourself a headache and find a dentist who cares about your teeth and not about your wallet. read more

Last Sunday night I managed to crack a large part of a rear molar right off. Fortunately no pain. The next day was a holiday and when I tried to contact Dr. Marcus he answered. Concerned if I had pain he found an appointment for me in his schedule for the next day. I got in first thing in the morning and his staff was already prepared for me. They did the evaluation, drilled, built me a new overlay, and set it in, all in less than 2 hours with no pain at all. I was completely blown away. I have been going to Dr Marcus for around 15 years, so obviously I am happy with the experience/service. The office is clean and modern. Dr Marcus stays up with the latest technologies. The waiting room is stocked with magazines and I never wait more than 5 minutes to be called. There are TVs on the ceiling to look at while you're being worked on. They are all digital with digital x-rays, waiving forms, appointments, etc. They send you a text and/or e-mail to remind you of your appointment. I also get a bag with a mini-toothpaste, toothbrush and mini-floss when I leave, which are great to use for travel. I go to Dr. Marcus and his team for twice yearly cleanings, fillings and extractions. He has also fitted my husband with a Silent Nite snore guard, although I only find that to be semi-successful as he still wakes me up with his snoring! The office is located near the Poway hospital and offers plenty of free parking. I have been putting my trust in Dr. Marcus for many years and as long as I live in the area, will continue going to him. He has a nice personality and English is his first language. read more

Dr. Marcus and his team are fantastic! After some less than stellar dentist experiences, I'm usually terrified to go to the dentist and tend to put it off as much as I can. I usually do not have time to write review but for those people I decided to find time and write review to help other people. This office do not care at all about you all they care about your money. The did very bad job with my deep cleaning. Dr. Sean did not even bother to check my gum after the costly process. After taking the money and do the deep cleaning, the hygienist said I have to come three months from now to put some medication. I went to the front office she said we are busy the earliest appointment after 6 months, so why did you process if you do not have time for the follow up process. Wow things have gone down hill since Marcus has left. Dr. Feely seems to be looking to make a buck rather than keep clients. My first meeting with him and I was scheduled for two appointments to replace my silver filings. Nothing was wrong with them, just wanted them out. When making my appointments, surprise, appointments were "surprisingly very busy of late". Talking to a coworker and he too was hit up for replacement of fillings, just because. I had my first visit with Dr. Sean Feely and his wonderful team yesterday. What a delightful experience. I had worked in the dentistry field for 40 years. I fell very comfortable that I have made a great choice. It was a pleasure to have Lori clean my teeth. X-rays were painless and quick. Meeting Dr. Feely was a pleasure. What a wonderful personable man. I had 2 issues with some old dentistry that were pointed out to me in my exam. Nothing tooth health threatening. Dr. Feely said he wasn't worried about it and when I was ready to have them fixed he would gladly help me get things perfect again. I didn't feel pressured or like I was getting a sales pitch. I think my wife and I are going to find another dentist. I've been to them a few times, and their dental work is decent. However, the most recent experience was terrible. My wife was quoted about $500 - 600 in dental work which was scheduled to be completed a few weeks in advance. When she showed up to the office on April 5th, the employee who handles the billing said that it was going to be over $1200! Apparently he had hit out insurance cap on insurance for the year, and she never received a phone call or any other notice. Complete bait and switch. My wife started crying in the office and they said our two options were to pay a $150 cancellation fee or apply for one of their credit cards. There was nothing else that could be done. She proceeded with the dental work. Don't be fooled by the "discounts" that the dentist give you either, because they just increase their actual price only to mark it down. I used to like this dentist, but after this stunt I think I have changed my mind. If you do decide to use this dentist, I would call a few days in advance to see if their pricing has changed so that you aren't surprised when you show up. read more

I've had four appointments in total at Dr Marcus's practice in the three years I've been living in San Diego. The most recent was a marathon session, five filings and a CEREC crown (what's that? In a moment). My poor-ish British teeth are the result of a childhood of sweets and non-fluoridated water. This much work is naturally pricey but I had some insurance cover to 'use up' for the year, before relocating away from SoCal, which helped. I could not be happier with any aspect of Dr Marcus's services. The man himself is irrepressibly cheerful and personable, and completely passionate about his dentistry. The mouthful of stuff I've had done over three years is the best-looking and best-feeling dental work I have ever had. His support network - front of house, financial, his team of technicians and hygienists - form a slick yet friendly machine that seamlessly guides you through all the peripheral stages. From what I've seen, they all get on really well and know their roles inside out. Now for the best part (for me anyhow). I'm a tech kind of guy and love what technology can do. The on-site-manufactured CEREC ceramic crowns, and the computer technology used to image the mouth, is just mind-boggling. The computer displays and user interfaces of the best sci-fi films can't outdo this stuff, and Dr Marcus is Jedi-grade in the way he deploys it. To see micron-precise scans of your teeth and the way a new crown is artfully profiled to fit in perfectly is ultra-satisfying. I've had it done three times, I think, and it hasn't lost its magic. Dr Marcus is a great teacher as well, and tirelessly trains his technicians on the equipment. The resulting crowns are machined and fired right there in the room, and the fit and finish are just impeccable. They have been right first time each time. The local anesthesia has been spot on every time too, whether administered by him, his technicians or his hygienists. I know people get a bit freaked at the thought of dental work pain but I've had none either during or after the sessions. I could go on, but you get the point. I'm sad to be moving away from San Diego, but I can wholeheartedly recommend Dr Marcus and his team. He's the Tooth Wizard, for sure! read more

Hello everyone: In the past, I was terrified about going to the dentist. I had a horrible experience as a teenager and it has impacted every dentist visit I have had since. I could not sleep the night before an appointment. When I arrived, my heart started to pound in my chest and I started to perspire. I must say, however, that Dr. Marcus and his team embraced my fear and moved at a pace that was comfortable for me; there were no surprises and everything was explained in detail. I did not even feel the needle enter my gum. They always checked on my status and kept me informed of the progress and the status of the procedure. I recently had crown done by Dr. Marcus and I am extremely pleased with his way to treat patients, his competency, and staff education. His practice is very well organized. In my first visit, I had a short clinic tour by a very friendly front desk clerk. His evaluation is very through and he recommends the best treatment plans after careful risk and benefit explanation. During the procedure, he does very precise job and does not cut corners. My procedure was done about three months ago and initially, the crown was a little painful. I was concerned and I went back to him and he explained that it will take several months for the pain to go away and it is going away just as he explained. dr. Robert Marcus is the bomb!! Dr Marcus used to be my favorite health care provider since 1998 until last year 2014 when he terminated me as his patient. He is smart, capable, high-tech CEREC trainer, fast, good communicator, painless, decisive and funny. He's able to do even root canals. He taught me oral hygiene like flossing and using a quality electric toothbrush. In his practice he is a perfectionist. I used to recommend him to everyone. So why the 2 star rating? -1 star: He unexpectedly terminated me as a patient in 2015, without consulting me or giving me a choice. I received a letter styled by attorney to protect himself legally. Does he care more about protecting himself legally than me as a patient? I don't know why he dumped me, but I speculate over the years he had disagreed regarding me taking responsibility for a few of my own treatment and condition. I cured gum disease twice with WaterPik + Periogen (5 mm pockets down to 3mm), and refused further expensive deep cleaning + antibiotics since it returned after 2 years. He told me that any treatment I did to myself like periogen was invalid, since only double-blind controlled treatments approved by ADA are valid. He seems hostile to patients empowerment, i.e. he never involved me in making treatment plans, but presented his plans decisively and ultimately mandated that I follow them completely or apparently hit the road. -1 star: Refusal to work out an agreement. I tried for about a year to communicate to resolve his concern but he ignored my first letter completely. After I made an exam appointment online an assistant called to refuse the appointment. To avoid making this negative review, I sent a second letter that he responded to but reconfirmed the refusal, and became hostile, accusing me of slander and legal action. This was months ago before this review. It seemed to me like passive-agressive anger, as he knew I wanted to talk to him but he refused. Unilaterally dumping a patient is legal but seems unethical for any care provider. Even as a landlord I try to resolve an issue with clients before terminating their tenancy, as moving makes their life more difficult and I don't want to anger customers. I probably would have conformed to any demands from Dr Marcus as as I did not want to change dentists. -1 star: Unfriendly Office: Dr Marcus had fired many of his hygenists and a partner dentist over the years, and I was okay with that since he was looking out for his patients first, but now to fire his patient? In 15 years I paid my bills immediately after the treatment, but because a few customers had not, he requires that patients prepay before any service is rendered. This made me feel like I was untrusted, which I accepted since it keeps the price down, but there was no effort to treat long term customers better that the stiffs. It seemed like the recent staff was under a lot of pressure and walking on eggshells coping with their boss. The environment in that office became unfriendly from Dr Marcus's imperitive thinking. Conclusion: I still recommend Dr Marcus for those who don't want to take charge of their own hygiene and responsibility for own treatment, and prefer to follow a dentist's plan completely without question, as he is competent, and completely honest (as long as you completely trust the ADA). I do not as ADA approved toxic mercury "silver" fillings and continue to promote forced drugging of all Americans with the toxic waste fluoride through public water supply. I found a Rancho Bernardo 5 star dentist who is more flexible for my exams, fillings and cleanings, and a 5 star American-trained dentist who setup a stellar office in Tijuana for expensive crowns. At least in Tijuana they want your business and guarantee their work. read more

I had an urgent need to be seen for a very painful toothache that began overnight. Not only did the staff offer me an appointment that morning, but Dr. Marcus took care of the problem quickly and sensitively. I later developed some complications as a result of my own actions. Again the situation was taken care of quickly and I was able to leave on a trip a day later with no pain and healing in process. I highly recommend Dr. Marcus and his staff. I have seen many dentists over the years and have never found one to be so compassionate while providing excellent treatment. read more

I have been going to Dr. Marcus since I was in middle school and now I am in my late 20's. I no longer live in SD but in Murrieta so it is quite a drive in which I pass by many dentists. I will not go to any other dentist but Dr. Marcus. He is by far one of the best! He put fillings into my teeth when I was in middle school and they are still in perfectly today! To be fair, I never saw this dentist. However, my issue is with the handling of our account and the fact that no one informed us that Dr. Marcus had sold his business to another. We left a dentist we loved and had been going to for 30 years due to insurance costs. On a recommendation we switched to this office and had all our files sent. Here's where the problem lies...their accounting person. She makes you pay up front. Okay, not a problem, except she over charges and then didn't submit the correct paperwork. When we finally received the correct paperwork from the insurance company, their office had overcharged us hundreds of dollars. I was left to file a complaint. We did receive the overcharged amount, but no apology from the office. Unfortunately, this left a bad taste, and now we have had to find another dentist. I hope this review helps someone else. Just be aware of their insurance practices. They really need to find someone who knows what they are doing. read more

Dr. Marcus did a bridge for me a few years ago and at the time I didn't know any better, so I thought he did OK. His manners and demeanor was borderline rude and he was definitely very "I'm the doctor and you're not" sort of person. Very condescending. Now I have moved to Seattle, and I tell you that I have had three dentists and one orthodontist who have told me that the bridge was done very poorly. It is ridiculously bulky and that has made my jaw problem even worse. Now I have to pay again to have it replaced. To all my San Diego fellows, do your research and find yourself a better dentist. Dr Marcus was my primary for the first part of 2018 . I went in to him based on a Dr Khasari (endodontis) recommendation on a crown that had broken . Dr Marcus wanted to start on another tooth but I thought that was incorrect . I asked a third dentist and he agreed with me but Dr Marcus was convinced he was correct . The tooth he started on needed a root canal and he took the top off it . This action then caused a third tooth on the same side to take all the bite force . That tooth became extremely sensitive and then my jaw started hurting . Further X-rays then a CT scan showed that the jaw under the tooth had become infected . This has become a cataclysm of issues directly or indirectly caused because of Dr Marcus's dental work judgment and is costing me significant pain and money read more

This is the first dentist that I don't have a panicked feeling about visiting. I know I am in good hands, my teeth have never felt or looked better. I had to have my first crown put on and they gave me some time to think it over and gain the courage that was hardly needed to do so. Every time I leave there I am happy and healthy. Let me start off by saying I had a mouth full of soft Irish teeth that I was far from optimistic about their poor tooth futures. Thankfully my wife has the ability to always find the best dentist in the area we live and my dental future has gone from dreadfully depressing to a mouthful of teeth that I'll be proud to flash a smile with! I really had about thrown in the towel and was starting to envision dentures in my future but Dr.Marcus has given me a reason to smile and my future has plenty of my own tooth marks on the silver lining .
