The people at All Creature were friendly and attentive. They were also 20% more expensive than my previous vet, whose practice is located in a more affluent town. Over the course of a number of visits with my two dogs, I began to feel like the staff who attended to my dogs were more like pet owner police. For example, when I told them that I don't give my dogs Nextgard during the winter, the tech looked sternly at me and said "Well, that's going to be put in your file." Then when I put an order in for Nextgard and Heartguard recently, I got a call saying they would not approve the prescription because, see above. Maybe I'm too old and cranky to tolerate how vet clinics like All Creatures run their businesses. To me it feels a little too invasive and $$$ motivated. read more

My elderly cat needed pretty extensive dental attention. I took him in for it, and got a call that he had extensive health problems when they checked his vitals prior to the surgery . I had to make a difficult decision in minutes. I decided to let my pet go. The staff couldn't have been more professional, informative, and empathetic. They'll always have my appreciation. read more

I don't often post negative reviews -- I prefer to give private feedback as a client of a practice -- but I feel morally obligated to warn pet owners about All Creatures. My dog recently had a physical that revealed a need for an x-ray. While waiting for the x-ray date, I expressed candidly to the hospital manager that I had growing concerns about the practice. Specifically, communication from the staff (other than my dog's vet herself) about my dog's well-being was not as consistent or informed as communication about payment and products was; the business side was coming across as more important than the care side. The hospital manager promptly canceled my dog's x-ray and terminated my account, citing a bad fit. This created a time delay (and necessary knowledge gap with any new practice) for getting my dog's x-ray to happen elsewhere. Let me be clear: All Creatures was willing to put my dog's health at risk because they didn't like my feedback. It was a nightmare trying to then engage them in a calm conversation so that, for the sake of my dog's welfare, cooler heads could prevail. I went to the practice in person and was given misinformation about two other practices willing and able to do my dog's x-ray right away (they were not). When I later called to try earnestly to figure out why this was happening, the manager answered on speaker phone and didn't declare the other party in the room: I had to ask outright. One last illustration: in a conversation that same day with one of the owners, she said "Can I finish?" after I had just interrupted her, and she was right; I quickly piped down. A short while later she started talking over me as I was explaining something about my dog. Composing myself, I asked, "Excuse me, can *I* finish now?," having extended her the same courtesy. "No," she replied curtly, and lectured on! At the core of this practice seems to be an overdeveloped and yet simultaneously very frail sort of self-regard. The best vets know that people are distraught and not at their best when they're worried about both their pet and their finances. All Creatures seems to demand perfect grace while refusing to dispense the same (while, in fact, being as graceless as they choose, and deflecting all talk of accountability). It's really hard advocating for your animal under stress while also being hyperaware that you must constantly sidestep the large and delicate ego of the system you're trying desperately to navigate. How I wish they understood this. Honestly I really wanted - and tried - to like All Creatures. They came with a great recommendation from a friend, and the vet herself was thorough and knowledgeable. I couldn't believe that fragility in the face of honest concerns would make a hospital knowingly jeopardize the health of my dog, as they kept claiming that they put animals first. My very beloved cat recently passed away after battling multiple chronic illnesses, and I am reflecting on how grateful I am to All Creatures for how they cared for him. I can't say enough good things. Dr. Hezekiah answered my many questions with great kindness and patience when she diagnosed him with chronic kidney disease and a heart murmur. Dr. Welch correctly diagnosed him when he presented with a critical health condition and was honest about her concerns for his prognosis while still helping me emotionally process. Dr. Burdick saw him frequently when he was towards the end of his life, helped us make sure he was comfortable, and was supportive during this incredibly difficult time. When we arrived for our end of life appointment we were immediately brought to the back by respectful front desk staff. The procedure was done seamlessly while allowing us to grieve. Throughout our cat's illness, staff called to check in after appointments and we were able to get follow up appointments in a timely fashion as his condition worsened. I have nothing but positive things to say about All Creatures. So much so, that we drive the 40 minutes from Boston to take our babies here. We moved here from California and finding a vet we can trust was one of my biggest worries. Our rabbit has been seen by Dr. Welch, who is extremely gentle and caring. She has rabbits of her own, which makes me very comfortable asking her questions (not just as a doctor but as a bunny mom herself). She is always realistic and honest about the care that my bun needs and I never feel pressured or uncomfortable. She's also great at nail trims and de-matting his hocks when I have trouble doing it myself. Our chow chow has been coming here since she was a puppy and although she has major vet/stranger anxiety, the staff always works with her and is patient with her needs/personality. Dr. Hezekiah (a past chow owner herself) is truly an absolute superstar! She gives great advice and is so realistic with her care in order to not stress our dog out. My partner is a doctor-to-be & she always explains things scientifically to him so we have the whole picture. We also must give our regards to the absolute best vet techs (Alyssa and Jessica) who are kind, patient, & understanding. Prescriptions are always filled promptly and invoices are itemized properly. There is a nice green strip across the street too, which our dog loves to walk after a visit before the long drive home. read more

I don't like writing one star reviews but when a service provider repeatedly disappoints me I feel I have to speak up. Been going to All Creatures for probably 14 years. Way back to when Dr. Burba worked there. She was awesome. Over the years they have slowly went from 5 stars to 1 star. It accelerated since the new owners took over. My last 5 visits with our dogs have on average been an hour late. I did not include my most recent visit that I spent three hours waiting past my appointment time. Seems like every time I go in there is only one doctor on duty and they always say your appointment is delayed due to an emergency. Have two doctors on duty so those of us with an appointment can be seen in a timely fashion. One of the young ladies at the counter was extremally rude to me on my most recent visit. Due to my tinnitus, the horrible acoustics of the space and the stupid face mask I had to ask her to repeat her self several times and she got snippy with me. Take off the damn masks. She behaved the same way with people on the phone that could not understand her. read more

I can't say enough good things about All Creatures. They've taken great care of our dog and cat over the years. When it came time to say goodbye to our 14 year old Labrador with myopathy this week, they handled the euthanization process with great compassion and kindness. The staff walked us through the process clearly, told us what to expect, and assured us that we were doing the right thing. They made up a special room for us with blankets on the floor (doggy hospice) and brought our boy a chocolate chip cookie before they started the process. They gave us time and space to say goodbye and let us stay with him until he passed peacefully. My husband and I are so grateful to the entire team. read more

I have taken my two dogs there for almost 12 years. Dr. Hezekiah is the most amazing vet I have ever met, and I have met a lot of vets growing up with dogs. She has saved one of my dogs life many times. My dog is a rescue and came with a lot of health problems after being rescued from an abuse situation by a humane society. She has treated my dogs amazing, she has done so many surgeries on my rescue to not only extend his life but give him the best quality of life. She will always have my undying respect. Also the technicians are wonderful and receptionists, especially Jessica. My dogs love to see her. My dog loves the vet and that is a first out of all the dogs I have had growing up excited when I say we are going to see Dr. Hezekiah. I came here to bring my daughter's hedgehog in for an emergency visit. I was able to get an appointment right away and for a reasonable price. The moment we walked in, the warmth of the staff was immediately felt. They were so nice and inquisitive and there all loved "Egg" the hedgehog. They were all so kind and helpful and we really loved our experience there. The doctor was super knowledgeable and answered all of the questions I had. They called to check up on Egg after her visit too! I love that they treat exotic animals and they were so great, I'm considering switching over the care of my two cats, too. Now I've experienced them myself and me and my pup are impressed. They're in an extremely clean roomy space. They're front desk staff are welcoming. We had no wait. The vet tech and veterinarian who worked with my pup are friendly, gentle and professional. And the nice surprise at the end is that they are much cheaper than my previous veterinarian! We have two cats and love All Creatures Vet Hospital! we've seen both Drs and they both have been terrific! The staff is extremely knowledgable and sensitive to our cats needs and to our needs as caring owners. Plus they do not push products, uneccessary tests, etc. And thankfully they do house calls. One of our cats "becomes ferral", as I call it, when we enter the vet. He hisses, growls, spits and swipes at anyone within range (including me), and thankfully All Creatures offers house calls. They are an extra cost, but so worth it! The first time our regular vet, Dr. Bradt, came over w/her assistant, Allison, they both remarked how different he was at home. I brought him in a week before that because he had conjunctivitis, and we needed the gloves, etc. When they came to the house, he barely made a peep and was incredibly relaxed while they gave him shots. Overall, I'm proud to tell people that this is my vet b/c I know the care is top notch. My cats are happy and healthy under their care and that's what matters to me. read more

I feel like we were given quite a bit of medication and many vaccines and preventative measures were recommended. All Creatures is the best vet hospital I have experienced. I feel lucky to have such a fantastic vet hospital right down the street. I've lived in MA, NY, CA (where I worked at a vet hospital), and VT. My pets have always come with me whenever I've moved. Now that my wife and I are settled in Salem and don't plan to move again I feel extra glad to have found the perfect "home base" vet for my pets. The practice is bright and clean and welcoming. Dr. Hezekiah is incredible! She's friendly, smart, knowledgable, and patient. My dog has some anxiety and fear issues and Dr. Hezekiah is perfect with her. She paid attention to my dog's body language and noticed that my dog is most comfortable when people in the room are sitting on the floor with her. Not only did Dr. Hezekiah sit on the floor with Callie to make her more comfortable, she even put a note in the chart for others to do the same. Dr. Hezekiah is always thorough and does a great job explaining what she is doing and why. She also takes the time to explain options for treatment. I never feel rushed through an appointment or that she is only half listening. I can't emphasize how much I appreciate this! The vet techs and receptionists are also fantastic here. They are all friendly and professional and always treat my dog with attention and care, as if she was their own. Someone follows up with us after every appointment to make sure things are going well. We have never had to wait long past the appointment time to be seen (although I would be fine if that happened because I so appreciate that I never feel rushed through my own dog's appointment). Pricing is reasonable. We love All Creatures so much that we recently had our cat's records sent over from another clinic so that she can be seen by Dr. Hezekiah, too. read more

Well, just plain annoyed. My wife had brought our cat in to see why she had these lesions on her head which seemed to be getting worse and worse. The vet had "assessed" that it could be either fleas, mites or ringworms. The "professional" then gave us a quote of +$400 on getting our cat on heart worm, flea and tick medicine, something for the mites and a ringworm test. So, being a practical person, I wondered.... why didn't the vet just comb our cat to see if she had fleas? Also, she mentioned how clean our cats ears were so isn't that where mites fester?! As for ringworms, didn't have much insight on that so thinking about our two small infants I decided that this might be a "just in case" situation albeit +$100 in lab fees. We got the tests done and the whole sum came to over $300. I made an executive decision to just try switching back to our old cat food diet (didn't include the dry food we had tried with peas in it) and the lesions went away (for now). Why didn't the vet ask about the cats diet I wondered. Then, the lesions came back and coincidentally I realized it was the poor quality control on the cat door we had. There was a magnet glued in crooked that had a sharp corner the cat would scrape across as she went through. Fixed that problem and wrote a thorough review on amazon. So, to add a cherry on top, the vet called us today and said our expensive ringworm test came back negative and added "that's what I thought". Hmm, so you want to charge us for your quick assumptions (didn't we just pay you to do a full physical on the cat) and then add that your assumption was right about it not being what you thought. Here's my assumption.. kick rocks, you just lost a customer who lives close by. Should have listened to my neighbor who kindly advised me to go elsewhere. PS: if you have a pet door, check for sharp corners on the bottom of the swinging door. Would have saved us +$400 on everything in this whole debacle. PPS: my wife said, on a positive note, that they were actually really nice there. Unfortunately "nice" cost us a premium. read more

If you had asked me when Dr. Bradt owned this practice, it would have been 10 stars, if the ratings could go that high. We had wonderful care from Dr. Burba, Dr. Bradt, Dr. Hezekiah, Chris and Jessica and Patty, the vet techs at this practice. However, after being a client for 18 years, first for our lovebird and then for our dog ( over the last 6.5 years) I can no longer recommend this practice. Dr. Dixon who is one of the new co owners clearly does not have the professionalism that is required when dealing with her clients. After having to advocate for my dog to have the required testing for diabetes, when she called me to tell me in fact my dog was diabetic her quote was " I am not a fan of diabetic dogs." Definitely not what a responsible and loving pet owner wants to hear from the person responsible for her care. And when confronted with her inappropriate comments, she mentioned that I as a teacher must have favorite students. She clearly does not have the compassion or the communication skills required of a veterinarian. She also told me I would be hard pressed to find a practice who communicates better than hers. However, I have already found a new practice, who when my dog developed a cyst on her paw called me in less than 24 hours to schedule an appointment. Our specialist at Mass Vet Referral Hospital emails , texts, and or calls within 24 hours as well. You will not find that level of communication at All Creatures. They are too busy and possibly have expanded their practice so far that they cannot take care of the long time patients/clients they did have. Please do NOT take your diabetic animal here. read more

I have had 14 rats over the past 5 years and about 9-10 of them had been seen at All Creatures Vet Hospital. My rats have had the simplest thing from a respiratory infection to a major tooth abscess that had to have surgery performed, so we have seen the spectrum of care given at this veterinary hospital. Over the summer our family planned a week long road trip and the rats, obviously, could not come. We had the three rats we have now board there the time we were away. Tulip had a respiratory infection and they treated her for that while we were gone. The rats were so happy and relaxed when we picked them up after our trip! That was proof that the best care and love was given to them just as if we never left. I praise Dr. Bradt and every member of her staff. They give 100% care to small animals and are very knowledgeable about rats. If I didn't feel so confident in the care my rats receive I would not have left them there for a week and I continue to take my rats there today. Rats are fragile at times and need love and a expert. We are visiting Salem and All Creatures squeezed us in when our precious dog was having a severe reaction to a bee sting. The Dr and Tech kept us fully informed of his treatment. The doctor advised us regarding measures we should take due to the risk of future stings. The facility is spacious and extremely clean. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. We have been coming here for about 3 years. They are extremely thorough and are so friendly, even to humans. My dog isn't always glad to be there but the vets make sure she comfortable and safe. They give lots of hugs and some treats for the exams and shots which make them go so much easier. Lab results come back so quickly, not sure if they do it on site but definitely the fastest I've ever experienced. The front desk is super helpful and will take the time to work with you. They have a designated area for just cats, have coffee in the lobby and toys for the little humans. The facilities are so clean and bright. Theres also a rewards program and you can access your pets info through their portal. They are a little pricey but you get what you pay for! read more

On Wednesday night of this week I discovered that my cat had injured my pet dove. Being that it was a Wednesday night and my limited funds I did the best that I could at that time for my bird. I cleaned his wound as best I could, managed to stop the bleeding, and set him up in a "hospital" cage which is basically a smaller cage that restricts movement. I put a heat lamp on him, a sheet over the cage, and I stayed up until four in the morning giving him fluids via a dropper every half hour. The next day I made dozens of calls trying to find a vet on the North Shore that would see him. He was not bleeding and he was acting 100% normal. I had no reason to think there was any emergency anymore. I thought I was being a good and diligent owner by finding a doctor for him. In my mind this was just a sort of "follow up" appointment. He was eating and drinking normally, his feces were normal. He was active and alert and preening himself. That being said, I am aware that cat claws are very dirty. I wanted him to be seen in case he needed antibiotics. So I called and called and called and could not find anyone on the North Shore who could see him. So finally I called All Creatures. When I called I explained everything in detail that had happened, specifically expressing my concern about possible infection. I was told that Dr. Bradt was on vacation but that there was a Dr. Dixon who could see birds but that there was absolutely no way they could squeeze me in yesterday (despite me describing the injury). The receptionist cheerfully encouraged me to make an appointment for the next day. NOT ONCE did she ever say I should go to an emergency hospital. And again, I honestly thought everything was okay at this point and that we really were just going to maybe discuss precautionary antibiotics. I want to make it very clear that yesterday, if I had had any notion at all of how this appointment would go down or of the severity of the situation I ABSOLUTELY would have made other arrangements. But given the circumstances I think it's perfectly logical that I was trying to seek out assistance local to me. I went into today's appointment open minded. I went in happy and smiling and communicative. I left in tears and spent most of the afternoon crying. Why? Because over the course of the appointment Dr. Dixon went from being friendly and helpful to berating me and shaming me AND DID NOT STOP. She did not stop during the appointment and she did not stop after the appointment. It turns out that my bird's wound was worse than I had realized. Okay, fine. I get that. I am very upset that he is hurt and I will ABSOLUTELY be taking precautions to make sure this never happens again. But it is NOT okay for a doctor to spend 15 minutes shaming a client for what you think they should have done. She kept telling me that I should have taken him to the emergency hospital. I explained to her that I had no way to get there and did not get any money till yesterday. That should have been the end of the conversation. But instead of letting it drop she kept pushing me and interrogating me about my finances asking about credit cards and then trying to tell me how to save money and saying I should have taken a taxi (remember, no money). She would NOT let it drop. I left the room in tears. My bird ended up needing stitches so I had to leave him there which is fine. NOT ONCE did I complain about what he would need. I will always do anything and everything I can for my pets but I will always have certain limitations too. Later on she called me to update me and AGAIN began to berate me for not taking him to an emergency hospital. This time she shifted tactics and said I should have taken him to the emergency hospital yesterday. I tried to explain that yesterday he seemed fine and I pointed out that I had called the AC office yesterday and that the soonest I could be fit in was today. That was not good enough for her. She ended up spending another 15 minutes shaming me till I ended up crying. When I started crying again she threatened to stop treating my pets and said she would refuse to speak to me if I kept it up. So finally I stood up for myself and told her that her treatment of me was unacceptable. She said it was her job to inform me of all my options. I said that's fine but is it also your job to continue pushing something after a client has said they can't do something? That question was met with silence. Finally she said that I was not welcome back at the clinic (even though she said my bird needed a follow up appointment) and that when I came to pick him up she would not speak to me or see me. So if my bird takes a turn for the worse this weekend he's screwed because this vet isn't mature enough to put the animal first. Financially shaming clients for a thing in the past that can't be changed is more important to her. I have never had a problem like this at any other vet anywhere. If I could do zero stars, I would. Avoid this place like the plague. I was a new customer and I only went because I needed a check up to get perscription food refilled. Before even talking to me or meeting my pet, the first thing they did was have their tech, Chris, walk in with a clipboard full of things they wanted to charge me for. I was shocked & disgusted. I said no & said I'd oy pay for what I was there for, the visit to get the food refilled. I should mention that my cats previous vet in Waltham said my cats were fine & didn't need a bunch of shots because they were indoor cats. When I refused to do them, Chris said he'd call the authorities & report my cat...what the fuck. I said, his previous vet said he didn't need it so I'm not paying for it. Then, it came back my cat had a thyroid issue. I'm a human & I have thyroid. My doc is able to tell me my medicine level on the first blood draw. But apparently, this vet can't do that. They make you come back & spent more money on additional blood work to access the level of medicine. Then, the best part is they quoted me $107.88 for the blood re check. I said that was outrageous. Then, all of a sudden, now they had an in house option for $55!!! I said, you quoted me $107.88 when all along you had an in house option for $55!!! This place is a scam & they'll just take your money left & right. I found a way better, affordable vet in Peabody & never going back. Another add, their tech Chris is not good with animals. He kept putting his hands over my cats face & all it did was s are my cat & make him more anxious. This place sucks, stay away! read more
