Good place to shop for supplies. It is also a big plus that they manufacture kilns. This pottery supply seems to have everything I needed tp fire up my kiln. What was lacking in most part is customer service especially when you walk through the door. There were employees- 1 with a customer, the other two yapping as they watch my hubby and I walk in. I assumed they probably were not customer service folks but turned out they were. In any case we did find what we were looking for. The disappointment here is most glazes are sold individually and not as a set which makes it a bit cumbersome if you're brand new to the hobby. The employee I asked told me she is not aware if glazes are sold either. In their website, it seems they do but most are not in stock. In conclusion, good place to shop for supplies. Ask for customer service if you need one. No guarantees that they'll answer your firing questions- it really all depends who is available to help.

If you play with clay, this is your place. It doesn't matter what you DO with the clay... sculpt it, throw it on the wheel, create handbuilt projects, make lifesize models... really, they have everything for anything that has to do with SiO4. I'm a fairly serious amateur potter (10 years) and I've been really happy with the quality of both their white raku and white high-fire clay bodies. Other clays from SPS, including terra cottas, have been excellent as well, very consistent over time and fairly priced. My former pottery instructor, world-famous ceramicist Mark Horiuchi http://www.markhoriuchi.com/ , makes most of his living throwing bowls, platters, and other vessels and always buys his clay from SPS... nothing else needs to be said. They have every bit of equipment that you might want, from wheels of all brands (Brent and Shimpo are especially well represented) to kilns, to banding wheels, to kiln furniture, to puggers, to slab rollers, and on and on. There will be stuff in this store that you don't know how to use, unless you've been working with clay all your life! And glazes.. oh my. I am a total WHORE for glazes and they have a great variety of brands and good depth for most of the brands that they carry. High-fire, low-fire, raku, underglaze, chemicals to make your own glaze, books of glaze recipes... this is a glazemaker's heaven. Hint: if you're going to make your own glazes, use distilled water. The trace minerals in tap water can change your glazes in subtle ways, and tap water's mineral content is not always the same. If you use distilled water, all the water-related variables are controlled and you can tweak until you get the exact results you want. They have brushes and small hand tools and batts and calipers and sponges and buckets and lots of the little things like that that make throwing, trimming, and glazing easier. Some of these, honestly, are cheaper at regular stores... like McLendon's for buckets and stuff. But if you're equipping a studio, or just want to make ONE trip, their prices are not outrageous. Staff varies from friendly to quiet/standoffish, but they all know their stuff and if you ask your question reasonably, they will all be super-helpful. Attitude might be met with attitude; I saw that once and was impressed. Artists can be tetchy beasts, but I don't think there's really any good reason for such crappy behavior. They also offer some classes and raku firings for those who don't otherwise have access to raku kilns. This is a friendly, helpful group of non-beginners (but who don't have much attitude towards earnest beginners who want to learn). Raku is magical; there are so many variables in the firing process that even the pros don't know exactly what will come out of the entire effort. Clay work is good for your mind, body, and soul. If you are over-stressed in your life, your job, or whatever, I highly encourage you to try it. Especially if you live your life at a computer screen (ahem) it will help you get in touch with your creative, artistic side in a very positive physical way. And clay people are usually awesome. :-)

This seems to be THE store for ceramics making. They have everything for the beginner and the expert, and have so much to browse to inspire you to expand your craft. If you aren't one, this store will make you want to be a potter! It's wonderful. A fun place to spend time for anyone.

I can't believe I had never explored this store before!…read more Seattle recreative (the sodo location) has just about everything you could ever need for crafting. They had fabric, all aspects of sewing and scrapbooking, jewelry making, bulk paint and glue, glitter, and a wide selection of different containers. I don't think I could even write everything they had. The prices are dirt cheap: I bought 9 or 10 things for $5. If you (like me) are really into sustainability, I can't think of a better place to pick up your crafting supplies.

Somehow, I had never heard of Seattle ReCreative, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it! The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's much bigger than it looks. The front rooms have sewing supplies, knitting/crochet needles, fabric and notions, plus modeling clay, jewelry and beading stuff. As you go further back, there's a room with office supplies, a section of cards and stationery and paper ephemera. The biggest area is in the back, though, where the main warehouse is. That's where you'll find gift bags and tissue, floral supplies, wicker baskets and tins, paint, and tons more random stuff. The other side of the warehouse is a crafting area that looks like it can be rented out - they said they had had a bunch of kids in earlier for a field trip. You definitely have to sift through the piles of stuff to find what you're looking for, but the prices are very reasonable. I love that it's reducing waste and encouraging creative reuse - anyone with hobbies knows how expensive it can be to get started with supplies, and this is a good way to try things out inexpensively. (Or get rid of the evidence of an abandoned hobby.) Their hours are a bit limited, but similar to other small crafting/hobby supply shops. Overall, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and hunt, there's lots of treasure to be found!

Tacoma was out but the sweet sales associates offered to order or call Seattle. I overheard them on the phone confirming various sizes. So I thanked them & drove up to Seattle. I noticed the Seattle location didn't have the sizes I was told, I asked the guy in charge of frames/ stretchers and he claimed I asked for one size then showed me a different brand from what was confirmed over the phone, a heavy duty variety. When I expressed frustration of being told the wrong thing, he walked off pouting, didn't offer to order any for me like Tacoma did. Not wanting to leave empty handed I grabbed a couple off sizes so I can work. On my way to check out, I informed my friend of what just occured and placed the stretchers at the register. The clerk said "You need to check out over there, Sir." My flabbers were gasted! My monocle popped out! I said "Sir? I'm not a sir!". This was strange and shocking to me. So I went to the proper clerk saying "They just called me Sir. What part of me gives man? I've never been called a man." So yeah I'm mad confused as to why my petite, adorable self in pink & lilac got called a man by someone who would not appreciate being misgendered themselves.... On Pride weekend of all times. And why wasn't I offered to have the supplies ordered for me like in Tacoma? Basically I received a wild goose chase, a bad attitude, lied to about what I overheard confirmed on the phone, and casually misgendered by Seattle staff. Very sad since I prefer supporting local. The Tacoma shop is a vibe with kind, helpful staff. I'll stick with them and Jerry's Art a Rama online. Apparently several reviews report bad behavior from staff over the past year or so. Don't need the funky ahh attitude when I just wanna create.

I asked if there vintage spray cans were for sale and the (Asian) lady at the registered seemed bothered. I got a collection at home and wanted to know more. She then proceeded to tell me I could check the price on the bottom. Later I asked about the Ny Quill caps, and she didn't want to pull out all of them. She said "they all look the same different color". I wanted to see the difference so I asked her to pull them all out any way. I chose the one's I needed at the time. I also asked about other tools for the cans and she seemed dismissive, annoyed and bothered with an undertone voice of "I don't want to be working here". It seemed like a struggle to get info from her. At that point I wanted to just walk out but I came from another state and thought might as well just get everything here vs ordering online. I asked about my points and she said I can get a freebie. I asked to see the two different options and choose the black streaker. She literally showed me one and said they didn't have anymore and gave me the mop. It was the way she went about the whole interaction since I got there. I've been to many shops and art stores and usually the workers are chill but this experience was not that great. Like I said I like art primo one of my favorite stores been buying for at least 15 years or more. Good product customer service was wack, I think she may need some training or have the owner talk to her because it's not good for business.
