Have you ever talked to "that guy" because you need help fixing a problem? Maybe he's a car mechanic, or an IT guy, or a Sommelier at an expensive restaurant. You're there asking b/c you don't know how to fix it yourself and they have the knowledge to help you. You say something like: "I have 3 doors that need to be replaced and I need help getting started." Then you get a blank stare back at you. ... ... ... maybe he's waiting for something else? More words from me? Finally he says "I can't help you with that limited amount of information." And then he's done. That's it. Suddenly you realize you're too stupid to be engaging with such an expert in this field. Maybe I was arrogant to even think this place (called Seattle's Doorhouse" was the correct spot to start my door journey. "That guy", the "door expert", wanted me to know it, too. He rattled off the info that I would need to bring in with me to avoid 1) Wasting his time, 2) Broadcasting how "door stupid" I am, and 3) Be able to write them a fat check. I would need door measurements and wall thickness numbers. (Awesome, I can get those!) The tone ion his voice was, however, the verbal equivalent to an eye roll when he quickly listed a dozen numbers toward me: 60by35by120$13575x130x55$250. I think he was throwing me a bone to get me out the door with some numbers at high speed. It worked. I couldn't get out of there quick enough. And it's because of 3 things: 1) I don't know doors like "that guy" knows doors 2) I'm an idiot in general 3) I'm an expert at wasting the time of other experts. read more

Unfortunately I have to update my review based on recent experience. Some of these guys just have horrible customer service skills. As noted in other reviews this seems to be normal here. I was giving details of my order to this guy at the desk and he said "that's not what I asked". Alright bro, perhaps I misheard you, but don't correct a customer in this way. Shame you can't treat customers better. I've spent thousands in this store on doors and this will be the last time I come here or recommend it. read more

I have loved working with Seattle's Doorhouse on a couple of projects. When we first purchased our house, we changed out the front and side doors and Dave was lovely to work with. They were able to easily take our old door and do their magic so that the new door hung perfectly. Recently we decided to update an apartment that we have. It was time for a new exterior door and a few interior doors. Dave and I spent quite a bit of time on the phone, I live on Bainbridge, so there were emails and photos​ so that they could retrofit the new doors to the old frames, with the correct cut-outs for the hinges and the catch. I really appreciated the attention to detail, so that the door that my husband ferried home, worked. Dave and I had discussed the interior doors and there were a few snafu's in getting delivery of the correct door to the Doorhouse, so Dave and I discussed options to support my timeframe. He came up with a great suggestion and I was able to have my project completed in the timeframe I wanted. I highly recommend this team. A great place for your DIY project needs! I was visiting my son and due to COVID restrictions we did a number of home projects during my visit. One of them was to replace the back door to his house in which the glass seal had failed and it was fogged up. We found out about Seattle Doorhouse and called them up about the door replacement, after a short discussion on cost, installation and door types we decided to use them. The first step was removing the old door and transporting it down to Seattle Doorhouse. They told us to park in the front so we could off load the door. We were greeted by an employee who took our door in for measurements while we selected our new door. They have a large selection of doors and side lights that would meet most residential and commercial applications. It was a fairly easy process for us to pick out a new door, since my son wanted a door similar to the old one in which they matched up for us. We bought an unpainted wooden door with a full length double pane window. They confirmed the direction we wanted the door to open and measured the old door for location of the hinges. We paid for the door and they said it would be ready in couple of days (which was critical as I was on a tight time schedule!). They helped us getting the old door back into the vehicle and we picked up the new door as scheduled. We were delighted in finding the new door's hinges were a perfect fit, but had an issue with the door frame, that was no fault of Seattle Doorhouse's, but we literally needed to be beat the door frame back in place! Dropped some old doors off here to have new ones made to match the hinge and door handle holes from the old doors. Worked with Marcus at first, who was great. Upon leaving, Marcus asked if we wanted the old doors back, to which we said no, and Marcus said "No problem, we'll take care of them." Went to pick the doors up today and the person who helped us told us that we had to take the old doors too. When we said that we just needed the hardware off of the old doors, and that Marcus said we didn't need to take the old doors, the person helping us said, "No, you'll take your old doors before I let you take these new doors." So not only do the different employees have different rules, the one that helped us today was also quite rude. This place is the best! I ordered double french interior doors from Home Depot - they arrived in horrible shape and it took 6 months to get them picked up / refunded. I'd paid $1.4k for the doors. Came to Seattle's Doorhouse - Marcus got me the info I needed to make a confident decision within 5 minutes. They told me the doors would take a week, week and a half to be ready... then made it happen within 48 hours. The doors are fantastic, so much better than the Home Depot ones... and cost $400 less. I was lucky because they had it in stock but when he learned I was in a tight timeline he had it framed and ready to go in less than 24 hours. Our new walls were a little thicker than normal and opening a little shorter than normal so it required a bit more work but he got it done. Amazing! read more

Rude staff. I came over to one of the staff members at the counter to ask a question when another customer stepped away. The jerk counter dude told me with an attitude: "Don't you see I am helping someone?" I guess this is how they welcome you to the store these days. This is an old warehouse with a bunch of dust covered doors. Only a few doors you can look at, the rest are stacked around the perimeter just like in a warehouse. Waste of time. read more

I attempted to use the door retrofit service at Seattle's Doorhouse. We brought our old door into the store and they sized it to a new one to be put on our existing doorjam. When we brought the door home, we realized it didn't fit into our doorjam. I've called them a few times to explain this situation (both pre and post shutdown) and the people I spoke with clearly don't care that I am not able to use the $800 door they sold me. My only option is to pay them more money to have a new doorjam built, and cross my fingers hoping it will work this time. I'm not interested in spending any more money at this business and will go through a company that cares about customer satisfaction. read more

This morning I took two closet doors to have planed-down. Over the phone Doorhouse told me the charge, which I was happy to pay. About ten minutes after giving them the doors a man returned with the planed doors, and told me it was no charge. I installed the doors and they fit great in the closet. Seattle Doorhouse has a great selection of doors but staff is better trained in knowing doors than sales or customer service skills. You need to know exactly what you want and exactly how to order it. There was no product literature or written proposal to mull over. A quick handwritten work order was signed with payment up front. All I got was a credit card slip. Unfortunately the door was ordered with the wrong handing and wasn't caught until after the door was made, hung, and picked up. A copy of the work order taken home would have easily caught this error up front. The manager Dave acknowledged the benefit of providing written work orders and said they are going to start offering these moving forward. I wasn't expecting the need to escalate my issue to the manager but I was pleased with his response and resolution. read more

It is so nice to deal with a local company. You can really tell the difference in the level of customer service from the corporate big box stores. We wanted to replace an ugly exterior swing door and got a quote from Lowe's for $300 material and $300 install. When we went into schedule it they told it would actually be $650 just to install. What? You know.....because our house is so old....it was built in 2007! Seriously What? Anyway, we started calling around and Seattle Doorhouse gave us a great quote on materials (Actually beat Lowe's) encouraged us that we could easily replace it ourselves, and had us just bring in the ugly door in to have it measured and a new door cut. It was 1000 times easier than dealing with the big box crew just to come measure!!! Seriously they wanted to charge me $650 for something that took me less than an hour to do myself! Thank you guys so much for the help and patience explaining the process to me, and encouraging me to install it, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought! Under budget! Ahead of Schedule! Seattle's Doorhouse was great to work with. We are first-time home owners and really wanted to replace our 1950s hollow-core doors with some solid, soundproof doors for a reasonable price. Things can get complicated with hanging a door, but this place makes it easy to keep your old jambs and just replace the door. If you bring in your old door, for $35 they will cut the new door to fit exactly (hinges, sides, height, lock) so all you have to do is finish it and screw it in. We just installed the first one and it fit perfectly! They did 3 doors in a 2 day turnaround and were super helpful and responsive to all our questions. One tip- 12-2pm is their busy time, so if you can go at a different time, I recommend it. Will definitely be coming back here for our next round of doors! read more

The sign kind of looks like you should be walking into a crazy "house of mirrors carnival" experience, so I wasn't really sure what to expect...but once you're inside, the shop is actually quite nice. A variety of doors are on display in the center of the shop, and doors are neatly stashed along the walls of the shop as far as the eye can see. The lady who was manning the desk when I went by was super friendly and knowledgeable, and let me know that I can get an MDF (solidcore) interior slab door to replace the hollow core doors I have now for ~$100 including shop labor to cut the door to size, drill custom holes for the door jamb, door knob, etc. Of course, I'd have to transport, prime,and paint it myself, but frankly I'd rather do that stuff on my own anyway. Those prices beat the box stores and most custom getups by far. They will even do the labor on a door that you purchase elsewhere and bring in for only $25. They say labor takes about an hour AND you can even make an appointment, so you know they'll be available when you stop by. How perfect! read more

I was a bit intimidated walking in but my General Contractor suggested that I could save some money there so I gave them a try. I ended up walking out with really nice doors that wouldn't have been available at Home Depot and I still spent less than I initially expected to. The folks were approachable, helpful and creative, easily handling the quirks of my project and getting me setup. The doors are the most notable part of my remodel. Without their help, I wouldn't have been able to afford such a cool detail to build around. read more

Ordered a bifold door from them to replace an old and broken one. I brought my original bifold door in and it was measured. The one I ordered was suppose to fit, when we brought it home and had someone come install it, it was too tall and in the process the bottom was damaged. I contacted Doorhouse and they went above and beyond to make things right. They ordered a new bifold door for me and made sure the new one was the perfect size and sanded it down in their shop. read more

Complete waste of my time. I called and asked about a door told them the measurements etc etc . They quoted me the price and told me I needed to come down there to order . So I did. I took time in the middle of my work day to stop in and order the door . When I got there aside from bad customer service and being stand offish , they tell me that I should hire someone to come out and match the door onsite as sometimes they don't line up . So I asked well it's an 80 inch by 32 inch door , that's pretty common right ? The answer I got was yes but sometimes your tape measure won't line up with my tape measure and then it's off . Which I actually understand , but they could have communicated that upfront on the phone instead of me driving all the way down and wasting my fucking time . They could have avoided this negative review if they had just gone a little deeper into my need on the phone . So after wasting my time I am just going to need to call a door company that comes out to my house . These guys are terrible and the customer service is a huge miss . read more

I was looking to replace my front door and Seattle's Doorhouse is the cheapest option. We brought our old door slap to the store and they sized it to a new one to fit our existing doorjam. It did not fit properly and My husband had to modify the new door slap and the hinges. It's not perfect but it's a big saving compare to replacing the entire door including the jams. read more

I was so pleased with Doorhouse! I needed to replace a crappy hollow core door in my house and didn't know where to start... I got a bid from a contractor who said it would be $400 labor + materials (ouch!) and figured, really, it's just a door. Not wanting to risk Home Depot or Lowes, I researched door stores and found Doorhouse which is near me. I brought my old door in and bought a nice solid core door, which they drilled the holes in the exact same spots for me and left only spending $100 on the door! Hung the door last night and am so happy I went this route. Marcus at Doorhouse was so helpful - which was a relief since doors are not exactly my expertise. The door was ready in about an hour - they even gave me $20 back because I didn't need as much "retrofitting" as they originally thought. All in all - wonderful experience. I'll definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone who needs to get a door that'll fit into a specific door jam. It couldn't have been easier or more convenient (no guessing or questionable math involved, thank goodness!). And I saved I'm guessing what would have been an $800 contractor bill! Sweet! read more

We stumbled upon this place after searching the large home improvement stores for closet doors. The Doorhouse can be kind of intimidating to walk into, but the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable that it's no big deal. Seriously. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by a women at the counter. We told her what we were looking for and she had all sorts of questions for us, then she brought us to their upstairs section which had used doors. Not only did we find what we were looking for but we found it for half the price! We got a solid, very nice looking, bi-fold closet door for only $20. It was used, but it was in great shape, and they cut it down for us for no additional charge. Bargain! We will for sure come to this place in the future if we need any type of door. I also noticed they had some flooring materials there too, but a small section. read more

As an update the track from the original door fiasco kept dropping the doors when you opened them too far. They ordered me a new track, new hardwate, etc at thier expense. It arrived as scheduled and they have been great assisting me with that. I left town right after and was gone for the better part of about 6 months so I cant tell you how the new track works because I honestly havent had time to get it installed yet. I will be back in about a week or two so hopefully after install I can give another better update. Improvements def noted. read more

Revising my review since they've since dismissed the employee that I'd mentioned below. My interactions w Dave there have been very good. Previous review, which is no longer relevant: Dave, who manages the place seems quite good. If I only dealt with him, I'd give 4 stars based on fairly good service, but slightly unresponsive & needing to call back a few times to check the status of my order. And then today: I had a guy who is helping me out with a project go down to pick up my doors. He doesn't speak English very well, so he had issues explaining that he wanted to pick up my order. The guy who was working at the time (Wes?), proceeded to give me a lecture on sending someone who doesn't speak English, saying I should hire Americans. To be clear: A. there are plenty of legal immigrants who don't speak English very well. B. the entire construction industry is made up of people who primarily speak Spanish (look no further than Lowe's & Home Depot signage) C. I'm the customer. My retail experiences shouldn't involve lectures on American immigration. He then proceeded to treat my helper terribly. Doorhouse - you ought to reconsider which individuals you have interacting with your customers. read more

Had a bad experience here recently. Had this crew hang french doors. Young millennial dude filled out my order then had me sign off on it. Door came back hung the wrong way. Turns out he made the mistake in the order, and since I had given it to him face-to-face, I signed off on it. My bad for sure. He denied any responsibility whatsoever. They then charged me full price for rehanging it plus an extra piece of equipment because they broke it taking it off the door. I needed the door and signed off on it, so I paid them. Tried to talk to the young guy about it. He walked away, and I think cursed at me in the process. Being 70 y/o, on a fixed income, at that point I just needed to breath, leave, and move on, and figure out how to absorb the $400 hit, which I am doing after this review. I'd done a good amount of business over the years with this crew and actually found this experience to be surprising. They know doors for sure, but this one was a customer service nightmare. Lesson here is to make sure to check your service orders. A post script on this one. I lodged a complaint with the owner, who worked out a fair resolution with me. Still a bit bruised from the customer service experience, but the owner acted true to this business's generally good reputation, so I'm inclined to think that this was an exception to the case. As mentioned earlier I have done business successfully with this company before, and am inclined to return in the future. read more
