Summary: great place for low-maintenance male haircuts. This is not just a clipper joint, everyone who works there is expert with the scissors and a few will even bust out the straight razor. I've been a monthly customer here for over a year. This is an old school barber shop that has been in Roslindale Village for long enough to have many regular customers and staff who've been there forever. When I go in the mornings I see cops, teachers, prison guards, etc. all coming in before/after work (they open very early, I think possibly at 5am). In the times I've been in the afternoon I've seen the same folks bringing their kids for cuts. I don't even request a particular person, I've cycled through everyone who works there at least once and they all did a great job. Now I just pop in, grab a chair and wait until someone gets free. My cuts seem to always cost $13 and they go the extra mile to make the haircut nice, clean and tight. They are also always polite about offering to trim the single mutant hair that likes to sprout from my eyebrows every once in a while. Not recommended for your complicated hipster hair but a great choice if you are looking for a place a couple notches above the cheap chain joints that just use hair clippers on guys. They also work well with vague & understated guy instructions like "I want it shorter" or "just clean it up a bit". read more

Very quick and clean cuts. It's a big barbershop, which means they can usually take you quickly, but still has then small/"we know our customers" vibe. They definitely have regular customers, and I've seen the barbers offer to buy customers a coffee from the shop next door. Some people will call ahead to schedule an appointment with a specific barber, but I just go in because they all give consistent cuts and take me immediately. I've only seen sports or other general channels. They take credit cards which is super helpful. read more

I have frequented many different Barber Shops in the area, but I have stuck with this one due to the fact that it has a good number of barbers and they get you in and out quick. The place has two sides to it and one side has 5 chairs all with barbers and the other side has like 2 chairs with no waiting area. I tend to stick to one barber here but all of them are pretty good and the price is 13 bucks flat. It is your typical mans man barber shop if you know what I mean. Good place for a standard men's haircut. Don't be put off by the fancy-looking signage, this is an old-school BARBER shop, not a "salon." I can't review for a more elaborate 'do, but for clippers on the back and sides, a little bit longer on the top, this place is excellent. They'll even clip your eyebrows, trim your ear hairs, and break out the hot cream and straight razor to the back of your neck, all for the $13 cut. I found it to be a BIT slow, but not really all that bad, I waited about 20 minutes. read more

I came in today for a haircut. I was a walk-in and the line wasn't long, maybe 10 minutes. When it was my turn, I asked him to cut my hair short and I showed him photos from my wedding haircut, which was an indicator for how I wanted it done. He squinted at it, said, "OK," and we were off to the races. The first thing he did was spray my hair with water, comb everything down, and then blow-dry it. Maybe this was to make sure the hair was sticking out evenly, but I have poofy hair so doing this just masks how long it really is. He got the clippers out and started on the right side of my head. As he moved to the back, I asked him to make it shorter than he was doing it, stressing that I wanted a short haircut. "No problem, we can always go shorter, just not longer." Classic barbershop joke. He makes his way around my head, and I notice that my left side is much poofier than the right. I asked him to make it even. Again, no problem, he went over the area and seemed to fix it. After everything was done, he again sprayed and combed my hair. It looked OK, although not how it usually does after I get a haircut. I paid the man and left. On my way home, I felt my hair and noticed that the left was significantly longer than my right. The hair on my right was exactly how long I wanted, but the left side was nearly twice as long. When I got home, I got out the clippers and set out to fix the issue. My clippers came with guides that make sure I'm not cutting my hair too close, and I put 1/4-inch one on. The right side was fine, but as I made my way around my head I found the hair getting longer and longer, and tons of hair was falling off the left as I was cutting it. By this point I was pissed - I told the guy I wanted a short haircut, I showed him a photo, and I corrected him twice during the process. I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do to make my intentions clear during a haircut. And the problem wasn't even the length, but that it was asymmetrical! To top things off, he didn't get my neck and the area around my ears as clean as other barbers do. Not coming back. read more

As a curly haired female, I am always hesitant when trying a new hair place. I always walk by Sebastian's and was drawn to its character. I want sure if they only did men's cuts though, but was in dire need of a haircut for a friends wedding. I walked in and asked if they had anyone familiar and comfortable with curly hair. That is when they introduced my to TJ. First off we discussed what I wanted he kindly squeezed me into his schedule. Now, TJ may not look like your typical stylist, but boy does he do amazing work. I have NEVER had a haircut that I was SO HAPPY WITH! The shape is amazing. Curly hair is hard, so I am deeply impressed. Not only does he do a great job, he is a great guy. He's incredibly friendly and kind. I highly recommend him for you hair styling needs. I plan on going back to him for my color too. I can't rave enough!! read more

About 2 years ago I moved to Roslindale from NYC. I had a great hair guy in NYC and since I typically went down every 6 to 8 weeks I continued to get my hair done there. However, my hair was pretty overgrown and since I didn't have a trip planned for a few months I stopped by Sebastians looking for a quick trim. Luckily, TJ was there - he is an amazingly talented stylist. Very reasonably priced for the type of work he does. He could easily work out of a pricey salon and charge a lot more than he does at Sebastians. So happy I found such a great hair stylist right nearby! read more

Got a good haircut for only $14. Tough to beat that. I have a short hairstyle so it's pretty hard to screw up, though. Although I've gotten bad cuts from chains like supercuts, etc. This place beats those in a landslide. Went in on a Friday afternoon and was seated after a 10 minute wait. 3 barbers working. Not bad. Plenty of reading material and a TV to keep you occupied. My barber was an older gentleman. He was friendly and funny but not overly talkative, which I like. I can't remember how long the cut took, but definitely under 15 minutes. Not the nicest looking shop I've ever been in, a little dated, but clean enough. Also would've liked a straight razor on the neck, but I guess they don't do that. Street parking only, but not hard to get a spot in that area. I will definitely be back. read more

Looks like Sebastians hasnt been reviewed in awhile so ill have a go at it,as i just downloaded this app. If u have an App(see what i did there?) for a great haircut at a reasonable price, u cant find a better place. Ive been going there for over 20 years and never felt when i left that i didnt get my moneys worth. They usually have at least 3 barbers working at same time so the wait is nev er long,most times im in and out within 30 minutes which is awesome. Each guy has their own unique personality,all very dilligent and courteous. So thats my unbiased view, hope its helpful. read more

Great value, great values. I took my 20 month old there because a Sister of St Joseph who works with the neighborhood said they give money to local charities. A guy named Guy was great with the boy. The haircut was $11, which I thought was underpriced for dealing with a toddler. I told Guy that Sister Nancy had recommended the place for their reputation of charity.
