Despite COVID, the normal flu is still floating around. I have been sick for the past week at home with sore throat, coughs, chills, nausea, congestion, back and neck pain. I did 2 COVID tests and they were both negative. Doing self care at home helps like herbs, tea, honey, Dayquil and of course rest. When my right throat started getting worst with stabbing pains that goes into my right ear that wound up in electric shocks in the back of my head..I knew it was time to see an acupuncturist! It's been awhile since I last seen an acupuncturist for my carpal tunnel syndrome and you know it's tough to get an appt the same day. I called various locations in Santa Rosa and they were either closed or full. Most of them require online booking and their earliest appt was Monday 8/9. I then found Sebastopol Community Acupuncture and gave them a call. Nobody picked up so I gave up at that point. Lo and behold, Derek called me back and told me there was a cancellation and was able to squeeze me in the same day! Feeling very grateful and lucky for his call, I took him up on an appt. I have never done "Community Acupuncture" before which is doing acupuncture in the same room with other people. It's pretty amazing to see Derek run around poking people, sanitizing the chair, and bringing the next guest in. He does it all! From front office to acupuncture to back office. I did not mind and it ended up to be a great experience. The location is in an old Queen Anne Victorian house. Plenty of parking on all sides of the house. The acupuncture clinic is in the back of the house. They also operate on a sliding scale. There is a chart which lists income on one side and the fee you would pay based on that but no pressure at all! You pay between $30-60 and it's whatever you can afford. I checked in and filled out some forms. Derek led me to one of the many rooms they have (it's about 2-3 patients per room now due to social distancing). The chairs are leather with a big plastic covering over it which he sprays down after every client. He would poke you and you would relax for 30-45 mins. If your eyes are still closed, he would leave you alone. Once you are awake, he will come by to take the needles out of you. Interesting experience in a victorian home with chandeliers hanging down. Relaxing music played as I tried to relax and eventually dozed off. Would definitely come back again for any needs! Derek just wants to help and tries to help as many people as he can. I went for acupuncture treatment feeling tired and run down from the high level of pollen currently. I felt terrible and had very low energy. After treatment I felt so much better. The covid safety precautions taken here are exemplary: Temperatures taken before entering, masks are mandatory at all times, very limited & generously spaced seating, air purifiers in each room. I have a particularly complex trauma history, and after being fired by three different acupuncturist because they didn't have enough skills to help me, I went in total desperation to Sevastopol community acupuncture clinic. I have worked both with Jan and with Barbara. Jan can handle ANY issue like a real champ. I was very surprised to find the person who finally had the level of nuance and talent to address the multiple mental health and sometimes physical issues that come with a complex trauma history to be in a community acupuncture setting. Barbara, quite literally, has allowed me to accept pleasure and release so much grief. She has also done a lot to help me regulate my menstrual cycles. On top of that, Barbara is an extraordinarily warm human being who is a joy to work with and really cares about every single one of her patients. read more

The sliding scale is very enticing. However the environments not conducive to relaxation and healing. There are so many sounds from rustling paperwork, computer keyboard clacking, cold rooms and lack of a practitioner patient assessment. The space lacks the ability to focus on relaxation and healing. I have never experienced a practitioner that placed acupuncture needles so quickly, it was not a beneficial or healing experience. The placement of the acupuncture needles seemed very haphazardly placed; this treatment isn't a one type fits all. Our body's are different and this didn't seem like some that was taken into consideration. I won't return. read more

I LOVE this place. It's very different from all the other places I've been to in the past. Instead of having you lay on a table in a cold tiny room, they have a community room of lazy-boys with blankets and soothing music and waterfalls.. Also, more important than the atmosphere, they administer the needles on the head and limbs which I find to be far more effective. I've seen Jessica a few times now and she is extremely helpful and gentle. She's given me several suggestions to help improve in mind, body and spirit and I always leave feeling so much better physically and mentally. I would also like to note that Lisa, one of the women that works the front desk, was wonderful in giving me the intro of the place. She explained the entire process, gave me a quick tour and it made me feel so much better about the new experience. I can't recommend this place enough! i really love this place. I am now approaching a year living in the 707 and feel like I have found my spots. spots which make me love the fact that I left the Bay Area and made the 707 my home. it seems like sliding scale medical stuff is really popular in the 707. this is my first foray into sliding scale business and I love it, as it allows me, or someone for that matter to explore something which they may not have been able to do without. With me, it has also allowed me to make Acupuncture a part of my life, which would not have been possible before. I know go every 2 weeks they have a 10 visit punch card, which comes with a free 11th visit which is great. You can purchase the card using the same sliding scale fee as you normally would. Enough about the boring logistical matters. ----I've been going now on my 5 or 6th session with Nicole. She is wonderful, very easy to talk to explain whatever may be bothering you at the time. My only gripe and in reality, it isn't really a gripe, it may be the fact, that this stuff works, is that, i really never have any issues to deal with on my visits. I may have a pain or two during the week, which oddly always clears up before my appointment date. read more

I stated visiting this clinic last year and I have always had excellent care. I see Barb and now realize from the other reviews that she is the founder of this wonderful healing environment. I have gone in for colds, bronchitis and even knee and ankle pain. She has kept me from going down the bad road with my lung issues and shortened the duration of my colds. I was skeptical at first, but I find myself coming here about 2 to 4x a month now because it is such affordable, high quality acupuncture. I can stay and sleep in those big cozy arm chairs as long as I want, and I can almost always get a same day appointment. Jessica, Jan, and Barbara are all wonderful practitioners. The front desk staff are kind and courteous. I have come in for everything from sprains to headaches to tendonitis to stiff neck to acute stress to fighting off the flu and all have significantly improved within 24 hours of treatment. They have an ultra convenient way to schedule appointments online. Everyone greats you with a smile and speaks very softly (an approach I find helpful when deal with the crankies in life). They have a variety of lazy boy recliners and blankets and pillows. Pick a chair, get cozy and then Jessica (my acupuncturist) will come over and ask me a few questions being sure that she tailors treatment specifically to me and my needs. Amazing and relaxing. Wow! This place ROCKS. I've been there at least a dozen times, and think it's the best concept in the world. I've turned my friends and boyfriend onto it, and they've raved about their experiences as well. First of all, they usually accept walk-ins, which is rare. Secondly, they offer sliding scale treatments from $20-$40.- depending on what you can afford. They make treatments affordable so you don't have to take out a second mortgage on your house to continue going. They also don't force you to leave an hour after putting the needles in, so you can get the the full benefits from the experience. I've stayed for over 2 hours, and at that point, woke up and felt refreshed and ready to go. The application process is thorough and they really take time to go over your health goals with you before each treatment. They provide a comfortable, quiet atmosphere with reclining chairs, pillows and blankets. Calming music and a babbling fountain quietly play in the background to help you relax. I've had the luxury of seeing several of the acupuncturists while receiving treatment there. They all are very helpful, sweet and each one brings something special and unique to the experience. I've been going for a few months to help with neck pain and carpal tunnel in my hands and wrists. It's also helped ease my anxiety and regulate my sleep patterns.
