We have used Second Chance for 16 months and we highly recommend them! I would fully recommend Second chance dog walking! We moved to Massachusetts at the end of the summer and tried out a doggy day care in Somerville near our house. Where we lived before we did doggy day care and decided to do it again here. We figured it was an all day playgroup instead of just a dog walker but our dog wasn't tired or happy when he would come home. We are so glad we switched to the dog walker! The owner Jill and her employees are fantastic. Our dog comes home way more tired and happy than he did at the doggy day care. They come pick him up from our house with a couple other dogs and then they play at the dog park. This playgroup is awesome! Second Chance has been taking my greyhound Blade out daily for about 6 months now, and I have never had a better experience with a walking service. Those who own a greyhound or have any experience with a greyhound will know that they can be very sensitive dogs with particular personalities. Blade, while extremely loving and outgoing at home, has trouble meeting new people, and he generally has an anxious demeanor in new situations. This can make it difficult for him to bond with a walker. With Second Chance, that has never been a problem. The walkers with Second Chance have all understood how to gain the trust of an anxious, untrusting dog, and they make Blade feel comfortable and happy when my wife and I are out of the house. Judging from the pictures I am sent of his adventures every day, I'd venture a guess that his daily walks with Second Chance are one of his favorite parts of the day. A short anecdote to reiterate the level of love and care Blade gets with Second Chance: Greyhounds struggle with heat. It is very easy for a greyhound to overexert himself to the point of heat stroke. On a day it was 90 degrees outside, I received a text from the walker saying that Blade could only stay out for 15 minutes because he wasn't responding well to the heat. This may seem like a small thing, but to me, knowing that the walker is paying attention to my dog's needs and making sure his daily walk takes those needs into account is invaluable peace of mind. 5 stars simply isn't enough for Jill and Second Chance. I don't know where to start, I love this team so much. I started a new job in October and was no longer able to walk my dog on my lunch break so needed to hire a walker. Jill came for a meet and greet and was so warm and knowledgeable and I could just tell how much she loves what she does and cares about clients. I left my review to inform other dog owners who might be considering Second Chance and to provide the business with the opportunity to acknowledge their missteps, apologize for not contacting me or seeking appropriate care for my injured dog, and perhaps grow from the experience. The response they left is offensive and defensive to the point of seeming hostile. It provides its own testimonial to how you might be treated should you choose to work with Second Chance: Second Chance and Jill Stammer may try to shame you for declining to pay $50 for a 1/2 hour walk for your two dogs. They may lie about contacting you at your provided emergency contact number. They might not seek veterinary care for your dog if injured. They may not train their dog walkers to provide proper first aid. They may not know how to follow dog bite protocol required by Massachusetts State law. They might walk your dogs for more than a week in "unfitted" harnesses and blame you for it. They might leave your dog with a person you've never met and wouldn't recognize on the street. They may pour rubbing alcohol on your dog's open wounds and take offense when you respond, in horror, "f***ing alcohol?" (the only profanity or 'rudeness' you would see on any exchanged messages.) My dog who was attacked (the other dog sustained no injury, nor was a dog bite report filed on its behalf with the state) has been through tough times in his life. He is 10 years old and I have kept him safe for all of those that he has shared with me. Anyone who owns a bully breed knows how important that is. By entrusting him to Second Chance, I feel as if I failed him. I don't think he was handled well, and when he was injured, it is my opinion as a veterinarian that he was not cared for properly by Second Chance. I do not feel that Second Chance provided adequate information about the situation, his condition, or his attacker. It is my opinion that Second Chance failed me, and failed my dog. FYI: any dog bite wound should be seen immediately by a veterinarian (not a human EMT). This is because of the potential for infection and underlying injury to soft tissue, nerves, bones and joints that cannot easily be seen due to the dog's fur being in the way. Bite wounds tend to become infected very rapidly, sometimes resulting in abscess formation and sepsis. This is of particular concern in wounds on the face, around eyes, or over joints (which is where my dog's wounds were). Dog bite wounds are often accompanied by bruising and swelling, which can cause puncture wounds to close and trap bacteria under the skin, potentiating infection. Such wounds should be thoroughly flushed with plenty of water and antiseptic solution (such as chlorhexidine) and treated with antibiotics. They are also quite painful, and analgesics should be provided. read more

I love this company!! I am a travel nurse, and upon researching and seeing their website knew I wanted them as my dog walkers. I'm very wary to leave my dogs with anyone, especially because my bigger dog is a bully breed. They were able to meet me and my dogs quickly, which was very appreciated!! I have a schedule that is all over the place, different days and shift times every week, and there was never a time they weren't able to provide a walk for my pups. I always got great pictures and updates from the walker. My dogs absolutely love everyone who walked them or took them for a playgroup! My larger dog had a minor incident at the park (totally his fault) that was managed perfectly and professionally. They even did an overnight stay when I went out of town, and had the best time! Having my dog go to the park with her "pack" has absolutely changed her! Sadie, in my non-biased dog-mom opinion, is amazing! But she's a rescue from a shelter is is a nervous and shy dog with new people. Since she began going on walks with Jill and her phenomenal crew, she eases into new situations so much more readily. She loves everyone on the crew and gets excited when they come to get her! She loves them! When we had a baby, Sadie began getting a little nervous and anxious again, and the stability and consistency of continuing her walks with her crew just made her day and I think really helped her (and us!) with the transition to not solely doting on our 4legged love. These folks are amazing and let me tell you why. We are a crazy dog family, for example, our dog-child Kirby, when we moved from San Francisco to Cambridge, somehow just "forgot" how to do stairs. Second Chance deserves 15 stars out of 5. I can't even begin to describe how fabulous they are. I have a 12-lb. Pekingese who is extremely wary of new people and other dogs due to a highly traumatizing medical experience- he cannot go up or down stairs, and can be very aggressive against strangers. The walkers at Second Chance took the time to foster a relationship with him and establish trust to carry him down three flights of stairs and walk him. It only took three weeks (6 visits) of reading him Curious George for Jasper to trust Ann Marie to train and carry him downstairs in a basket (King Tut, seriously). Jill was able to follow Ann Marie's lead easily. I'm also certain Jasper loves these women more than he does me, based on the reactions he has to them that I have witnessed. Regardless of whether your dog is easy going or hesitant around new people, the folks at Second Chance go the extra mile- I can only hope to be so fortunate to find walkers as skilled in the DC area. read more

Where do I even start? Jill and everyone at Second Chance are absolutely amazing. We moved to Cambridge this summer and within a few weeks of moving, we needed a dog sitter. Our building contracts with another dog walking/sitting service but I was less than impressed when I spoke to them. A little Googling brought up Second Chance and I reached out. I hadn't even considered a play group but after reading about their groups, I knew we had been missing out. From my initial contact with Madelein, to my in person meeting with Jill, and all of their services after that, we have LOVED using them. It's apparent right off the bat that they care about your dog and are extremely attentive. We sent our very hyper, 5 year old Aussie to a weekly play group and she would wait by the door every Tuesday because she knew Anne Marie was coming. Second Chance also found us two dog sitters and they both went above and beyond checking in with us while staying with our dog. I cannot recommend Second Chance enough for both play groups and dog sitters!! We are so sad to be moving out of MA and away from our dog's play group :( read more
