You can read my nightmare review of Brar Dentistry in South Elgin if you like, but after losing part of a tooth and getting a $4000 quote, I decided to get a second opinion from Second Street Dental. I've been a life-long patient of St. Charles Family Dentistry (which is also great) but as I was facing a root canal and had a positive referral to Second St, I gave it a whirl. My first visit was with Dr. Marco, he was great. He put a temporary filling in that lasted for a few months and gave his opinion that I (probably) did not require a root canal. I received a Sonicare toothbrush and my referral received a $50 credit. On top of that, the X-rays I provided from the previous dentist were garbage, and Second St. needed to take new X-rays. They waived the fee knowing I just paid for them elsewhere. Appreciated this a lot. My second visit was with Dr. Molly. She repaired my tooth and confirmed Marco's diagnosis that a Root Canal was not needed. She did a great job with the filling. She explained everything she was doing. Nothing but good things about both Docs. All the office staff and hygienists were awesome. I seriously estimate that I saved - and I am not kidding - $3000 out of pocket by getting a second opinion here (and that is WITH INSURANCE). I had no idea how bad I was getting hosed by the first Dentist and no experience with Dental Insurance. I would have been screwed. I paid probably $100 out of pocket between the 2 visits and 2 fillings. Your mileage will vary but the savings were beyond huge for me. If you don't like dentists, feel lost when it comes to what your teeth require, and are as confused about insurance claims as I am...Trust these reviews. No body is going to give a Dentist a review unless it's a horrible or wonderful experience. I've had one of each, and this is the latter. I hope I don't have to see them very often, but next time I need dental work I will be coming here no question. read more

I have always had a terrible fear of the dentist... After reading reviews I went here and can't say enough about the dentist and her staff!!! They were welcoming and calming!! They fit me in for a cleaning and ended up squeezing in a procedure I needed and it went so much better than it has in the past! This office is beautiful with all modern equipment. The staff here is amazing! The front desk staff went out of their way to get an insurance issue handled prior to my appointment. The hygienist was so sweet, calming my anxiety and was so skilled, I had virtually no pain during a deep cleaning. The best dentist I've ever had! I recently visited Dr Hayes as a new patient last month, after going more than 5 years without seeing a dentist. Like most people I was nervous to go, fearing the need for expensive and painful dental work. After my cleaning and checkup I had one cavity filled and two older metal fillings replaced at a later visit. The fillings were fast and nearly painless, and my dental insurance covered the majority of the cost. Since then I have had impressions taken for Invisalign and just started my first week of trays. All of the girls in the office were super friendly, and especially good at putting me at ease as a new patient. The office is nice, the staff and Dr Hayes are awesome, and the pricing was very reasonable. Anyone looking for a new dentist need not look elsewhere, I couldn't have asked for more as a patient! read more

I am very disappointed as a patient of this practice. They completed dental work on my mouth which is now giving me pain to eat. When I called for an emergency appointment in the morning they said they could not get me in until the next afternoon. I was able to call another dentist office who made arrangements to get me in right away because of the pain and potential infection. I would expect that as a patient they would want to do all they could to help when they are the ones that completed the work. We will no longer be at this practice. read more

Overall, my family has not had a very positive experience at Second Street Dental. We have only been coming here for a year and have had 3 poor experiences. First, they tried to get me to pay a balance on my account that I never had. There was confusion between the balance being on my husbands file vs mine and they kept telling me I owed when it had already been paid on his account. Luckily I forced them to do an audit of their own to understand and did not end up paying double. Second, I was advised to get night guards and when they came in they did not fit my mouth at all. I had to be fit a second time and wait for them to be remade. I waited almost 2 months before finally calling to see if the new guards were finished and after being put on hold I was informed they were there and ready for pick up. I would have never known they were sitting there ready unless I called. Lastly, and the final straw that's making me look for a new dentist... I came in for a regular 6 month cleaning/exam. The hygienist got through the whole cleaning and basically said "You're good to go!" without the actual dentist coming in to do an exam. So I asked and was informed the dentist was actually on vacation and would "look at pictures" when she returned and would call if she saw any issues. LOL. I was never informed in advance or proactively that the dentist would not be conducting a full exam that day. I had to confirm that this didn't actually count as an exam for my insurance. The receptionist said it would not, but didn't sound confident. I've never been to the dentist for a regular exam and NOT ACTUALLY SEEN THE DENTIST. Crazy. I would have happily rescheduled my appointment, but was never even notified she'd be out. read more

I found them very dishonest. I went in for a routine exam (my very first visit with them) and they found I needed a crown because I had "significant decay". I questioned it because I had no sensitivity or pain. They showed me my x-ray (which I'm not an expert so I trusted what I was looking at). They claimed I needed a crown asap before it turned into a root canal. I agreed and they estimated my insurance portion. After getting it done, I kept getting rejection statements from my insurance. When I called the office, they told me that was normal and they would resubmit it. I received a letter from my insurance then stating that they had their experts look at it and their was not significant enough decay to warrant a crown so they only paid for a cavity to be filled. Second Street then sent me a bill for $414. How can experts not see the same amount of decay? I feel they completed a procedure I ultimately didn't need. Consumer beware, get your records and verify with insurance prior to what they tell you. read more

My wife and I both visited this office for awhile now, going back to Dr. Dohan for many years. We have found the transition to Dr. Hayes (Molly) seamless. Dr. Hayes has brought a brand of new technology to the practice that is in keeping with current ways of doing business (like digital x-rays and social media), and is fresh and inviting. On a personal note Dr. Hayes worked on a problem area of my teeth that Dr. Dohan had noticed was suspect, but because it was below the gum line it was hard to discern. Dr. Hayes did a procedure that helped restore the area and for now seems to have halted any further degradation. I appreciate her approach, and she is equally adept with handling the difficult procedures that I came to appreciate Dr. Dohan for. Her execution of a crown on my lower rear molar was text book, and she managed it perfectly. I think Dr. Dohan chose a worthy successor in Dr. Molly Hayes. I hope you give her a chance, you won't regret it! read more

My entire family has been going to Second Street Dental for years with Dr. Molly Hayes after Dr. Dohan retired. Her staff has always been friendly, helpful and courteous beyond words. Once I showed up for a dental cleaning appointment on the wrong day. They smiled and took me back without a word. I got home and found out my appointment was the following week and I called them to apologize. They said there was no problem, they were happy to take care of me. But that's just how great this practice is! They make everyone feel welcome and you can't help but enjoy....yes enjoy your visit at their office. I recently changed dental offices and was extremely happy with my choice! The office staff is younger, but they all do such a great job! I visited Second Street dental today to have a small cavity filled. I usually see Dr.. Hayes but I saw Dr Colella today since he is in the office on Thursdays. I cannot express enough how wonderful this office is! Prior to my last visit I had not been to the dentist in quite some time. My old dentist just wanted to get the job done without taking my feelings into consideration. I usually left his office in tears. Both dentists at Second Street thoroughly explain any procedure I have needed and always makes sure I am comfortable. They are the most gentle and caring dentists I have ever met! I would highly recommend both dentists. Laura, the hygienist does a great job. Her helpful advice is always taken seriously. I now floss twice daily and brush at least twice a day also. Upon entering the office you are greeted by the friendly staff and made sure you are comfortable by the assistants. I can't imagine another office I would visit. read more
