This is right in our neck of the woods, but we have taken years to try it. We usually have our go-to's when it comes to Indian food, and it's hard to deviate from what's tried tested and true. The first thing I noticed when looking at the menu was that there is no Daal Makhani. This was disappointing because I order it literally everywhere I go. Whenever I order Indian I try to get hubby something I don't cook- so opted for a lamb dish (Lal Maas) for him. On the menu, the restaurant flagged this as the spiciest dish on the menu. I asked for extra hot. Husband said it was tasty, but not hot. For us, hot and spicy is a must, so we are always hopeful restaurants will listen if we ask for extra spicy. Butter chicken was meh- not spicy at all. The meat was tender, but sure wish there was more of it. Seemed like so much sauce and no meat. Definitely no leftovers. Samosa was good. Momos were good. Overall I'd try this again but I'd order something else! Thanks Second Wife!

I spent a month this summer in the UK and had several opportunities to eat the best Indian food I have had in my life. Nothing I have had in Canada measured up to my UK experience... Until this week. This shop is in my neighbourhood and I stumbled upon it going to the liquor store next door.... So happy I did. This is walk up counter service and everything is made to order not scooped out of bins in a steam table. I would recommend when possible calling ahead. This place is authentic in every way, delicious food, friendly staff, huge variety. Mains, sides, deserts, appetizers, drinks. We will be coming back bi-weekly to work out way through the menu. The menu offers many vegetarian and some vegan and halal options. Make your way to this shop for a real curry - you will not regret it.

Food overall does really well with longer transit times. Hakka Noodles & Manchurian: 8/10. Noodles were not spicy. Manchurian was sooo spicy. Garlic Naan: 2 orders = 6 pieces. Very tasty. Cream of Chicken Soup: 5/10, tastes like canned Campbells cream of chicken soup. Kids liked it. Butter Chicken: too spicy for me and kids so unable to eat much of it. Lamb Vindaloo: 9/10, spicy but adults liked it. Veg Samosa: too spicy for the kids but adults liked them. Chan Masala: 9/10 Kids liked, not too spicy. Dal Makhani: 9/10 tasted as expected, not too spicy. Overall food was tasty but way too spicy for me and the kids. Also for 4 adults and 2 kids we needed at least twice the amount of naan.

I'm not sure if they just can't make adjustments but it made it a challenge for those in our group that do not have the spice tolerance. The list of items we ordered: Hakka noodle & Manchurian $13.99 we tried to specifically ask for no spice as it was for kids but it was too spicy for kids. The noodles were really tasty and it was a good serving size. I enjoyed the dish as a whole with the noodles, veggies and what I think were falafel. Garlic naan $7.98 - the best thing we got- tasty and everyone enjoyed it. Cream of chicken soup $7.99 this was our first time trying a cream of chicken soup and it was not very appealing - the meat in it was very grissely and fatty. And while it wasn't spicy it also didn't have much flavor in the soup overall. Classic butter chicken $16.99 this was one of our favs, it was creamy and good and spicy. Lamb vindaloo $16.99 this dish was very spicy and again the meat I did not feel was the best quality- very tough and not the typical tender lamb. Veg samosa 4 for $10 - these were delightful but I wish they had come with that special sauce samosas are usually served with. Chana masala $13.99 - another top dish, we usually order Chana masala from Indian restaurants and this one was on par with others we have had. Dal makhani $15.99 - another dish we enjoy ordering from Indian restaurants, but we had specifically asked for no additional spice and this one was quite spicy again too spicy for the kids to enjoy.

Restaurant was empty at 4PM on a Thursday and I had to ring the bell on the counter to get service. I pre-ordered and was emailed a confirmation. I like that I can specify the spice level. Online menu is easy to use and has good food descriptions. The restaurant called and asked if I forgot to order rice or naan, but I confirmed I only wanted the 2 Dal dishes. Order was quoted as 15-20minutes. When I arrived, my order was bagged and ready to go and they threw in a free order or naan bread! Very generous. Dal Makhani $13, Dal Tadka $13. Both were really tasty but my preferences would be Dal Tadka. It was thicker and had a really great flavor. Naan was very soft and amazing with the Dals. Overall very happy with the price, portion, taste, and service!

I saw 700 very positive reviews on Google, and 4 reviews of 5 stars here on Yelp. Clearly I'm the unpopular opinion. I don't think this place appealed to my taste buds, and I eat a LOT of Indian food.... And frequently. I don't think I like the spices they use. Everything tasted very uniform, even though we got a variety of items. The dal makhani was very different than the same dish at some of our other favourites. It was more tomato-y and tangy as opposed to rich and creamy. Wasn't a fan. The mutter paneer was probably my least favourite. It was bland, and the paneer was mushy. There was not a lot of paneer in the dish. The kadai chicken, also another dish we get elsewhere, was spiced in a way that didn't appeal to me- and there was not a lot of meat. The only way I can describe the flavours I was picking up is "burnt"? I can't quite put my finger on it. The naan was also dryer than other naan. Veggie pakora was pretty good. My husband said "you're not going back for seconds? You didn't like it that much?" - I feel like that says something. I guess he gets several days of leftovers hahaha. He seems to have liked it.

Very annoying when there is no music playing in the background and you are having your meal with the ambience of an ice factory . We go to pay the bill and are charged 27 dollars for 2 small bowls of soup ( one chicken & one veg ) mostly frozen veggies in one and frozen veggies with a few chunks of chicken in the other I paid the bill and asked the lady at the counter if it was justified to charge $27 for two snack size bowls of soup , her reply was that " You asked for double portions so you have to pay for 2 soups " . Hot & sour soup is included in the buffet which is only a few dollars more . I told her that and she became defensive " You orders soup not buffet " . Well if someone had told me that , i would have had the buffet . Complete rip off . Pathetic customer service . Never going back . We eat a lot of Indian food. A lot. An embarrassing amount…read more Soooo I do believe we have a wide range of market samples to compare to. Having lived on the south side of Edmonton most of my adult life, I tried every Indian option over there. Now that I've moved North, I have to try everything to find my new go-to. Royal India Express might be it!!! (I am surprised, because anything "express" has been a let-down to me in the past). This is the second time in 2 weeks we have ordered from Royal India Express (both times via Skip the Dishes)... so I can't speak to the store front as I have no idea what it's like. I can only assume it's a walk-up style place for take-out only, that probably has all the food ready-to-go buffet style, with no dining room. (A quick google search just now confirmed I was pretty much bang on). So, I am even more DELIGHTED that the quality and flavour of this food is TOP NOTCH. Both times we have ordered in the last two weeks the food has been just excellent. ANNNNNDDDD they listen when you ask them to kick up the heat. Everything was a good level of heat. I wouldn't call it EXTRA EXTRA hot like I asked; but certainly one extra... The overall flavour is great, though. So no foul. If you've read my Indian food reviews before, you know I ALWAYS order Daal Makhni. This is the yummiest Daal I've had. 10/10. It's pure comfort food for me. The Butter Chicken was great and had a kick to it. Nice fiery after taste. I will say there could have been a bit more chicken in there for the price though. This is my only complaint here. The Palak Paneer was very very spinachy, and I loved it. Packed with flavour. Last week when we ordered we got lamb. I didn't have it but the boyfriend said the meat was quality cuts and flavoured very well. Good on you, Royal Indian Express. You will absolutely be seeing us again.

It was crazy good, had lots of flavour, unique spices, and a wonderful aroma. I find Indian food has amazing aromas! The Chicken Chettinadu was excellent, however, I was not made aware it was spicy. I can handle spicy food, but this was a bit much even for me! I'll still give it a very good review, because it was very tasty! And the garlic Naan was amazing! I didn't realize one order gave you two pieces of naan, so I did two orders, and have enough naan to live off of! For it being my first time ordering from them, I was very impressed, and will definitely get the saffron Rice and Garlic Naan again, but, the Chicken Chettinadu was just a bit too spicy for me. My only suggestion for the restaurant, is to have options for spice level.

Chana Masala was super flavourful and is one of my all time favourite dishes. They did it well. Lamb vindaloo had lots of heat and the lamb was quite tasty and has some big pieces of meat. A real treat but this dish alone was close to $15, so it's a bit pricey. The Dal Makhani was tasty and had good flavor. Also ordered the classic butter chicken, and even though it was specified to be mild spice it was too spicy for kids to enjoy and the amount of chicken given was really poor. For spice lovers it still has good flavour and was really creamy. Paneer was very good, the vegetables it came with were alright. We got this dish medium and it was sure Spicy! Also ordered naan and it was a big soggy bit a pretty good portion. Their website is not very functional. Ordering online isn't intuitive and you can't specify what level of spice you want. If you are ordering take out it's way cheaper to make your own rice at home rather than order it with your meal. Still overall the food was really good Indian food.

Indian food is our absolute favourite take-out, and historically have only ordered on the south side where there is tons to choose from. So, we were excited to try somewhere new. The reviews for Tandoori Bites on Google are really good, for the few that are there (4.3 stars) and so we decided to give it a try. I regret not taking pics, but I didn't see it on Yelp and just learned how to add it. But it all looked great, and the I love the containers they used to pack the food, because they are reusable. We ordered: Lamb Curry Chicken Korma Dal Makhni (my personal fave from anywhere we order) Saffron Rice 2 x Garlic Naan The lamb meat was not fatty, like some places. Very high quality trims of meat. We found this curry to have an excessive amount of oil, it separated and looked less appetizing as time went on. The chicken korma was not something we'd normally order but wanted to try something else than our usual habits and it was tasty, but a little too sweet for our tastes. Just personal preference though... The dal was flavourful. Probably my favourite of what we ordered... but I just love lentil curries. I have to say this garlic naan was the yummiest of the garlic naan's we've ordered elsewhere. I managed to find just a pic of that. Haha. 2 things worth mentioning; it was super fast... we had our food very quickly.... and it seemed super fresh. The second is that we asked for the food to be extra hot/spicy and I don't feel that happened. I think we just got whatever level of spice they had in a buffet stash. This is something that happens when you order a la carte at any other Indian place... you can ask for heat level on a scale... this felt bland for our taste. That said, food quality a 4, taste a 3, price a 5.... I'd give it a 4 overall. Value for money is excellent.
