I can only speak for the "supposedly " chicken spaghetti...which has Extremely, extremely, extremely little chicken in it. Does not even have a chicken flavor. It should be called no taste cheese spaghetti. Don't buy it! I have eaten it many times over the years and it just gets worse. read more

Made a phone call to ask about ready made food for 1- Or ordering food for 1- Or frozen food for 1- The lady answering the phone was rude and cut me off. She told me to come to the freezer sale. I said, Sounds great. Frozen food for 1. BUT NO! Just frozen food for a family. What? That is not what I asked. She wasn't listening at all. She said, oh well you could divide it. Yes! An 80 year old cutting thru frozen food with a knife is a good idea. I wouldn't have had to call if the website was more clear. This place is really good. They have a good selection of home cooked meals. My favorite is the chicken pad Thai , and the pot roast with green beans! They have the best mashed potatoes! So yummy!! It's quick easy and fast. Yes it can be a bit pricey at times but it's very worth it for the convenience that it gives me. You'll have to just try it !!! read more

Called around several different places for a chocolate meringue pie that my coworker wanted for her retirement party but was turned down time after time, either they didn't bake pies or they baked pie just not chocolate meringue or too late to order and get by the day I needed it. Was recommended by one of the bakeries to call Secret Chef. It was a wonderful experience. They do special orders and were willing to make it for me even though it's not one of their normal menu items. And it was DELICIOUS! Would take a picture but it's all gone! Flawless experience with Billy and his staff. We reached out with a list of "wants" for a graduation party and everything was amazing. The communication was excellent - thorough and prompt. Billy's professionalism is beyond reproach; he's highly invested in pleasing his customers. We have picked up food from Secret Chef several times over the past couple of years and have had good experiences each time. The employees we've encountered have been friendly and helpful, it is a nice, clean store, and the food has all been very good. They have several large refrigerators that have been fully stocked each one I've been in. They offer large portions as well as smaller portions, a good variety of side dishes, as well as "healthier" options. In addition they have bread and several baked desserts. We have tried chicken spaghetti, pot roast, tuna salad, chicken pot pie, and cherry salad. Probably a couple of other things that I can't recall. I particularly like their chicken spaghetti, and the pot roast is really good, too. The food has all tasted very good and seems to be fresh and healthy. This is a great alternative to fast food or dining out. Prices might be higher than either, but you are paying for higher quality and a larger quantity. There location is a bit out of the way from where we are, but it's Waco - not exactly like you're traversing Houston to pick up dinner. They are worth a try, I think! read more

I won't be back. I ordered a serving for four and sent my sister to pick it up and take it to my daughters potluck event. I found out later they had put me down for four servings for four, meaning for sixteen. The only price discussed was $14.50 and I was charged almost $63! Since I wasn't able to pick it up myself, I'm stuck with a bill that is ridiculously not what I ordered. Food quality aside, i won't give them a second chance. I could have had better food from OG for $35, wish I had gone with my first choice. read more

I have used Secret Chef for holiday meals; which were great. I also have bought the frozen entrees for a smaller family gathering and it was a definite hit. We had the pot roast, among other dishes which were all great. The deserts are wonderful and well worth the money. I encourage any one with a bad experience to give it another try because I have always been super pleased. read more

The only store I have been to is the new one on New Rd. The owner and employees are very nice! The portion sizes are too small to feed my family at a reasonable price. The drinks are also overpriced. It is cheaper to grab a soda at Double Daves. If the portion size were bigger at the prices they are currently at I would give it 5 stars. There are also limited breakfast options. Perhaps there is a cheaper way to package the product that would allow them to decrease their cost and lower the customer's cost as a result. I am very happy to support local businesses and I would love to be able to use Secret chef more often. :) read more

I bought food from Secret Chef a few weeks ago for the first time and was very disappointed. I had originally heard about this place from a friend, and it sounded like the perfect place for a single person to pick up a healthy alternative to frozen meals. The company has a great website, and the food is advertised to be made fresh in-house with healthy ingredients and portion control and low-fat options. Everything looked amazing! When I stopped by the store front I was greeted by a very friendly lady who took time to show me all of the different food options and make recommendations. The store was clean, bright, well-organized, and well-lit, and I ended up buying a few meals and was excited to try them at home, but that's when things turned south. The beef pot roast tasted like it had been boiled with no spices other than some canned diced tomato and the few baby carrots on top also had zero flavor. I ended up feeding the rest of the beef to my dogs until I opened the container 2 days later and smelled the spoiled meat, and I threw the rest away. The tilapia on a bed of rice with a side of roasted bell peppers sounded amazing on paper, and looked delicious in person, but once again had zero flavor, and I ended up throwing the rest away. When I tasted the scones I was expecting a buttery, flaky pastry, but the dough was dense and coarse and the jelly toppings tasted like standard Smuckers out of a can. This catering idea sounds great on paper, and they clearly have excellent customer service, but it's all meaningless if the food isn't edible. read more
