A small but adorable garden in Huntington Beach Central Park! We found this garden through searching for photogenic spots in the area, and it was perfect for a short but serene stroll. - PARKING - Lots of parking as it's right next to the Huntington Beach Libary! - ENVIRONMENT - Beautiful field of grass that surrounds a lake. There are several park benches for you to sit and enjoy the view and weather. Lots of geese and squirrels running around that aren't scared of people at all - they're probably used to being fed! The garden has a pretty archway designating the start of the garden. - EXPERIENCE - It only takes about 10 minutes to walk through the entire garden, depending if you stop and take photos! There are a variety of flowers and greenery inside, and I love how calm it is. We took family photos outside the garden as there were more bloomed flowers. I hope the inside of the garden continues to bloom throughout springtime! read more

This is another park I like as well. The Secret Garden is a favorite of the locals and non locals. Full of nature and beauty here. Feels like Heaven when you walk inside this garden. I have been wanting to come up here a long time. I drive by here sometime, but just never took the time to check it out. Now, it will be a go to spot. read more

If you have a sun burn, don't roll down the hill when I did it it hurt. But the flowers were pretty cool. There are many squirrels.

Small but pleasant garden still green in winter with some flowers still blooming. Right behind the library, I was actually right next to it about a year ago for a wedding photoshoot and never even noticed it there so you do have to know it's there to find it. Very interesting indigenous plants and flowers here, the winding paths were nice and we loved the small area near the fence made from sticks tied together. It is fenced in but open in several areas, the coolest opening being the one right next to the lake. When you are done the lake nearby make for a nice loop you can get more exercise on. We came here for a walk and to get out of the house, super happy we could find something open during Christmas. read more

Visiting Secret Garden was like attending a magician's show, only to find out the only trick was making my time disappear! The name's a bit of a misnomer; the only secret here is how they've managed to make a garden out of just dirt and rocks. It's less 'secret garden' and more 'public park on a really tight budget.' They could use a dash of color - maybe throw in a few flowers that don't look like they're plotting their own demise. And the manmade lake? It's less 'sparkling oasis' and more 'home for every abandoned shopping cart in the city.' Whoever's in charge of this place might need a map because they've clearly lost their way. An intimate garden, chalk-full with living charms. So, some Yelpers are upset that this little haven is not "secret" enough. Well, it's not the garden from Burnett's novel. There's no secret key to dig up, no hidden door you enter through, and it's not sealed with a perimeter of stone walls. It's a public park for goodness sakes! Seeing how little attention this park has gotten from Yelpers in terms of review count, it's been secret enough. Only 5 other people have written about this place, and now I'm the 6th. My visit today was filled with brilliant blooms from the recent rains. The volunteer gardeners from the Huntington Beach Tree Society really poured a lot of energy and time to create what they call a "'xeriscape' garden to showcase drought tolerant plants." I came to find some inspiration for my garden and thus, earned a new Yelp badge -- I'm now a hippie tree-hugger, haha. Feeling pretty accomplished :^) While I'm usually good at keeping them, it would be a shame to keep this one a secret ^_^ read more

I would love to tell you about this place........but it's a secret. This park, about an acre in size, is actually a fenced off area inside Central Park. It only takes a few minutes to meander through, with lots of places to see butterflies and take pictures. Not worth a long drive but definitely not to be missed if you are in the area. Here is a cut n paste from their website...... The Secret Garden was created in 1992 as a demonstration "xeriscape" garden to showcase drought tolerant plants. Due to budget constraints the garden had become overgrown and invasive weed curtains were blocking out sunlight. Many of the bushes and trees did not survive. Since October 2014, the HB Tree Society volunteers have spent many hours removing the dead plants, trimming back the overgrowth and weeding out the invasive plants from the garden. The city parks department has worked with the volunteers by removing the many piles of plant material created by the restoration. All of the lined, decomposed granite paths and river rock dry streams are new to the Secret Garden. These new features have been designed and constructed by volunteers with the help of a wonderful landscaper. The California friendly plants have been artistically placed. If you need inspiration for your own personal space, this is the spot to visit. The garden is located behind Huntington Central Park Library and has Huntington park hours. Working volunteers and donations are needed. This picturesque site is perfect for bird watching or just enjoying the scenery. It can be used for special functions with a reservation. Beautiful hike with lots of small trails and horses passing by to say hello. Flowers are abundant along with small gardens, streams and a pond at the end. Be careful parking in the very limited parking lot because your car will get dinged. Better to park in the residential area. read more

The name is intriguing. "Secret Garden"? So it's not that much of a secret if you label it, is it? Well, other than that, the garden is beautiful especially now in the spring. I have always been here during the fall or winter so there are not as many flowers in bloom. The Butterfly section actually only had one monarch that I saw. I would have liked to see more. Definitely worth walking through and taking a few photos. read more

It's not really a "secret" when there's a big sign on the fence LOL but it's cute and worth the short stroll. I scouted this location for my maternity photo shoot. It's small but it was perfect. There's shaded areas throughout which are perfect for portraits. Most of those areas only allowed for greenery and lavender backdrops. There are other native California plants, such as the poppy, spread along the path. The day/time of my shoot was too sunny to get any of the other beautiful colors but my 5 yo really enjoyed exploring the paths. read more

It was a nice little garden in a very nice park, but I was hoping something a little with a name like Secret Garden. If you happen to be at the library, I would recommend make a slight detour to walk around it but I don't recommend it to be your primary destination. read more
