We just moved out of our unit at Extra Space Storage, and I'm appalled by how we were treated. Shortly after leaving, the manager called to accuse our movers of stealing a dolly. We were shocked -- our movers are professionals we've worked with before and trust. We immediately checked their truck, spoke with each mover individually, and confirmed that they did not have the dolly. We told the manager this, but instead of listening, he threatened to charge us $1,000 to replace it. Wanting to resolve the issue and see the proof he claimed to have, we drove all the way back to the facility. Once there, he told us he had "tape" showing the movers taking the dolly but that it had already been returned after speaking with the movers. Oh and he wasn't "allowed" to show it to us. Except -- that was a lie. We called the moving company as soon as we left, and they told us no one from Extra Space had contacted them at all. They had no idea what we were talking about. So not only were we falsely accused and threatened, but we were actively lied to. This was an incredibly unprofessional, stressful, and disappointing experience. We upheld our end of the agreement, kept the unit clean, and returned everything that belonged to the facility. In return, we were treated with suspicion, dishonesty, and threats. Do better, Extra Space. read more

Management on the premises is rude, and cares more about the social media exposure for this location. Monthly rent is ridiculously high. Look elsewhere; there's many self storage locations in the area. Plus the soccer park next door makes for a congested parking area. When there is a large move in expect to find no parking space and no available carts. read more

The constant rate increases are extremely frustrating, but the facility itself gets 5 stars for cleanliness and how it's operated. Noretta is an absolute rockstar, she deserves a raise. I decided to move some very important items from my home after it barely survived the CZU lightning complex fire in the Santa Cruz Mountain. Michael was great, made finding a locker to fit my needs very easy. When I moved out he actually remembered me coming in looking for a locker after the fires. I used this storage place a lot of times. First the people that works there also the manager are a really nice people. They will communicate with you in whatever you wanted to do at the storage. An example I've used this storage facility a lot of times to load a 20foot container and ship back to my island. The storage place is really clean and secure. I started used them when I was still living in Saratoga but now I moved to San Jose I still come back to them. I recommend them to a lot of my family and friends and now they are starting using the same storage. read more

Mike has been more than a pleasure to work with. When I first was looking for a storage in January I called probably 10 places. Extra Space has excellent deals online and I went over to check it out. Mike gave me a tour of the place which is immaculately clean and gave me all the info I needed. I wasn't sure how big of a space I needed and he didn't hesitate to show me my options. The first increase was $10 with no notice to us. This time I did receive a postcard that there will be a $20 increase. Extortion. read more

I personally went to every storage facility in Los Gatos and Extra Space Storage is beyond comparison and frankly the nicest storage facility I've seen. Their security system is very modern, and the facility is immaculate, very well lit, and secure. In addition, the people on site managing the business are EXTREMELY polite and professional. John Hernandez specifically went out of his way several times to show me the unit, and we expedient in getting the unit rented and explaining how the facility operates. Great outfit. read more

Though the facilities are very secure, expect to have rate increases every 5 months or so. I have the smallest unit which is about the size of a small closet. It was advertised as $75/month with first month free, but they require their insurance ($9) so that bumped the price up to $83/month. About 5 months after I moved my stuff in, I received a postcard in the mail informing me of a $10 rent increase with no explanation. Then today I got another postcard with another rate increase bringing my rent up to $106/month. I also rent a 20' cargo container (about 10 times larger than my Extra Space unit) from Instastorage and its only $198/month, but its not climate controlled so that's why I had to get this unit. I googled "Extra Storage Complaints" and found other people having the same problem with this company, so it seems to be a company policy to raise rents 2-3 times a year. I am looking for a new place. One that plays fair. It feels like they know that its expensive and time consuming to move and that the majority of people will just live with these incremental rent increases rather than move out. They bank on that fact! I hate them! read more

We needed a big storage area to fit almost all our staff so we could stage our house for sale. After comparing a few places within the area I chose extra storage. It is clean, price is good plus some places did not have the size I needed. Managers are a husband and wife, I believe, and they are both very pleasant and helpful. I got 50% off first month but we only needed it for one month so it worked out. They can prorate once if you do not need it for the whole month but you need to contact them (you will not be able to do it online). There is alarm if anybody tries to get in without security code, locks get inspected every day (once I got a message that mine had not been secured properly). My unit was on the ground level, not too far from entrance, I found everything pretty convenient, clean and well maintained. Their hours are from 6 am to 10pm so if you are looking for 24 hour access it is not for you. Also sometimes carts disappear because people leave them on floors, you just need to let office know, they will take care of it right away. All documents are signed electronically, I had a situation where I had to sign authorization form to remove the lock because moving company who removed staff from the unit decided to put the lock back on empty unit:-) Unfortunately, by the time I realized that I was already in southern Cal so the girl in Los Gatos office (unfortunately, I forgot her name), advised me to go to one of the offices in southern Cal and sign the form there. I signed the form electronically and they removed the lock so I did not have to pay for an empty unit. The girl went extra mile to help me out I really appreciate that. read more

This place has by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced, specifically from their newest DM Kent Mckenzie. This place is an absolute rip off. I needed a place to store my belongings for 1-2 months when I was in between apartments several months ago (and made this known to the folks that I spoke to). Although I got a great deal for my first month, and agreed to all the crazy terms into the second month charges (which were ridiculously high), the person that helped me with my lease (Mike) never told me that if I gave him my credit card for the automatic payment for the second month, that Extra Space Storage would not issue a prorated refund for the duration of that month, otherwise I would NOT have signed up for that payment option! I followed all the rules by giving my notice to be out 10 days in advance, but they said AFTER THE FACT it is not in their policy to give any refunds once the card had been charged (which happened to be on the same day I gave my notice which was nearing my second month of renting the space). Mike, the original guy that helped me with the lease was at least nice enough to request an issue for the refund up to their supervisor, and I have a saved voicemail from him that said the refund of $194 was approved. However, I was only credited $97 (half of the refund) back to my account with no real explanation, which means i was charged for an extra $97 of rental space/time that I NEVER used because I moved my stuff out before 10th day of giving my notice like I was supposed to. I tried following up again on this to get an email response from yet another (new) DM, Kent, (after receiving a very rude phone call from him) saying that they can only prorate rent if we let us know prior to your payment being made, he "feels that this was a fair compromise, and we will not be issuing any further refund on this account." This is terrible customer service, and they kept almost $100 of my money for the last 3 weeks that my items were never being stored at the facility. Such a disappointment and a waste of time, effort, and money-do not take your business here. read more

I should have written this a long time ago! This facility has been such a different and pleasurable experience after years at PS. The staff is a accommodating, friendly, helpful and a pleasure to talk with. The facility is so clean and well maintained. I agree that the lighting is great. The access easy and always works! We are moving soon and I will really miss this Extra Space Storage location. read more
