Had front door keys made here. Didn't work. Took them back , young man who made them originally put them back on machine & then handed them back- should work now Tried them again Didn't work. Keys were shorter than original key - which I pointed out on first visit- he says that doesn't matter Returned them second time & asked for a refund. They then wanted my original key. To see what they did wrong if anything. As I was headed back out to car to get it a guy behind a wall says " Never mind he used the wrong key size to cut the duplicates(3 keys). When he comes to register, he opens it, snatches $13 out & hands it to guy who made the keys to give to me. Really - never apologizes for mistake or my inconvenience, or anything. Plenty of locksmiths in Lewisville And the guys at Home Depot are nice, informative & professionals. And thier duplicate keys work. read more

I went to 4 other big chain stores who claimed to cut keys. When I could even find someone to help me, none of them were able to copy the key I had. I finally went to Allen's Old Town Locksmith, where a real person was able to locate the correct key and cut 3 copies within about 2 minutes. Not sure why they are the 11th locksmith that shows up in Yelp but after striking out on the first 5 or 6. The last reluctantly sent me to Old Town Locksmith and that's been a while back. These guys stock most blanks and do work in house or mobile, communicate very well, the stores clean, and they offer complimentary bottles of water. I drive an older vehicle that requires 2 different keys: one for the ignition and one for the doors. I came in and asked for 2 copies of each of my keys. The young guy who helped me was super nice and very quickly cut my keys as we were having a conversation, but he made all 4 of them out of the same blank, so they all looked identical, not to mention they were a good inch longer than my original key, and almost wouldn't even fit in my pocket! I hadn't realized he had already done all of the keys, and I asked if he could make 2 of them with a different blank so I could tell the difference between the two, and the kid's manager yelled from the back that I should have specified that I wanted two different blanks before he cut the keys. I tried to talk to the guy and come to a compromise, offering to pay for all the keys if they could help me modify the ones I had to make it right. He kept arguing and just being rude. I eventually just offered to buy just the two ignition keys, and not the door keys, because I wasn't interested in buying 4 identical looking keys, and he REFUSED to allow me to buy only two of the keys which he had already cut, saying I could buy all four or NONE AT ALL. Do not use this company! Went to have a lock rekeyed and they kept the extra keys that came with the lock without telling me they had kept them. After calling them back to ask for the keys, Matt said I had to come and pick them up and I asked to have them mailed to me which he finally agreed after arguing with me. Several weeks later, I do not have the keys so I called and spoke with him again. He said his owner told him not to mail the keys and said I had to come and pick them up which I again argued that they shouldn't have kept them in the first place. (They were my keys.) He ended up hanging up on me after I complained. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company because they have the "worst" customer service ever. read more

I've been by this shop several times to have keys copied, and they do good enough work. But customer service is totally out the window, and they charge a pretty penny. I prefer supporting small & local businesses, (rather than hoping you get someone half way intelligent at the big box store key-kiosk!) I don't mind paying for quality work/services, but every time I've gone in here, to simply have key(s) copied, I get the 'angry lunch-lady vibes', especially from the older gentleman there, for asking simple things like; "Can you stamp this info on the key for me?" or "the original key is brass, could you make the copy with a brass blank too, so they'll match??", and "I'm looking for a decent home safe, to keep important documents in.. can you tell me a little about what you offer..?" Their response was, 'These are what we have..' [motioning towards the safes on display, looking at me like I had three heads]. I just don't understand how you treat your customers with such contempt, if they've only been in your store for less than 5 min. If I'm in a pinch, I'll use them again, but otherwise I'm gonna keep looking around town for a friendlier locksmith to do business with. read more

When I called them back (9 Hours Later) -- they said that they didn't have time to look at my door lock I needed replaced because they have PAYING CUSTOMERS!!! Made an appointment and the day of the service technician, Fred, came to the house at the scheduled time but decided because of his physical condition, he couldn't climb the 7 steps to my front door to let me know he was there. Long story short, when I called to inquire about why he didn't even ring the door bell, he was very short-tempered, using foul language, and before I could express my disappointment and urgent need, he hung-up on me. I called one additional time explaining that I would not be afraid to write this review, and I wanted to give him a chance to redeem himself...and he said, "I'm fixing to hang up on you again...(and shouted) I can't do the work and I won't do the work!" I'm sorry to leave this review about Old Town Locksmith, but I gave this guy every chance, and he left me "high and dry" and treated me very rudely. He admitted he should have asked me about the steps before he accepted the job (well, duh). Fred, unfortunately, needs to retire. He no longer cares about his customers. Buyer beware! :( read more
