I definitely recommend coming here. Kanoa is super helpful and very nice. Most of the time, they have a majority of items in stock; however, if they're out of stock on something you need and can't wait for, Gun Source is worth a try (pretty pricey though). The owner is very helpful as well. If you're willing to make the drive, OGC Tactical might have what you're looking for too. For the best customer service and firearms selection, you could also try Young Guns; however, it should be noted that Young Guns is REALLY pricey compared to other gun shops. This is the place I am forced to go to for work related purposes. I mainly came here early on in my career for those nasty metal tag book holders, a duffel bag or lame handcuff key. After a while, all that stuff you realize you never needed in the first place. This is one of the few stores in Hawaii that offer a wide selection of firearms and long guns. I came here for my bullet proof vest fitting and pick up. I'll minus one star because of the lack of staffing. Usually all the people are huddled around the gun cases talking to the cashiers and service people making the line long. But once you do get someone to help you, service is friendly. As I was waiting to pick up my vest I noticed a nice Sig Sauer that was reasonably priced that I'd like to purchase one day. I do have a $120.00 gift card so maybe soon! SEC is a solid establishment. They have a nice selection of quality products including firearms, ammo, holsters, cases, bags, belts, cleaning and range supplies, magazines, a small selection of pocket knives and flashlights, and plenty more. It seems to be a great resource for LEO's (law enforcement officers) as I see a police officer there almost every time I go. Good enough for them, good enough for me. When you walk in and you don't get a smile and friendly chit chat, don't get bent out of shape. Remember that you're in a gun shop. Some regulars might get the buddy treatment, however, I think they try to keep the mood serious for professionalism. I can understand that. The staff is still cordial, helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are competitive. Parking is in the back (down a narrow driveway along side the building) or in the neighboring lot. I have heard discussion/criticism about SEC being more LEO -friendly than civilian-friendly. My perspective, sure I'd rather them favor civilians since I am not a LEO. However, I appreciate them supporting our LEO's, as well. I also heard they declined to support the Hawaii Defense Foundation with their CCW mission. If it's true, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they had good reason. If I have a chance to speak with one of the owners I'll be sure to ask if it's true. If it is, rather than making a snap judgement on that, I'd ask why did they decide not to support HDF. I'll report back if or when I find out about this, from the source. My wife and I stopped in the store after work today and were greeted immediately. We went to the counter where Casey began helping us. I explained to him we were in the market for our first handguns, and although in the military I've shot a 9mm a few times, we are basically new to the world. First he explained the process for obtaining permits and registering firearms. Then, he took out at least fifteen different weapons, allowed us to handle them, showed us the features of each one, etc. He was very patient and didn't treat us like the noobs we are. He never tried to sell us on one gun over another. The entire staff with which we dealt was friendly. The shop had a large selection right at the counter. After a few bad run ins with other shops, I decided to check out SEC with the hope that they could dispel previous rumors about prices and services that I had heard from said other shops. Let me just say I was not disappointed. Yes, prices aren't what we would like them to be, but the store offers a wide selection and usually has stuff on hand that other shops don't. You may pay a few more cents per round, but that is an equal trad of for convenience of having the round when others don't. I didn't purchase a firearm from SEC, but went in with an associate who did. Staff was very courteous with assisting him as a first time buyer, and again, had exactly what he wanted when other shops didn't. SEC is definitely one of my favorite shops, and I will continue to primarily deal with them even when other shops may have a better deal due to their great customer service alone. But don't get me wrong; they do offer great discounts during various times of the year, which is just an even bigger plus for me. read more

Today, 3 of my brothers & I went to a few gun shops to go window shopping for any guns that we may purchase sometime next week, with Security Equipment Corp. being the last of 3 places. I had previously read some bad reviews about them and wanted to find out for my self. So, we walked in and was not greeted in any way, which is not a big deal, I don't need greetings, but it would've gave me the sense of atmosphere this place has. After a while of looking @ the guns in the glass case @ the counter, a worker asked me if I needed help with anything. So, I asked him if they had a 22lr version of the gun that I was interested in. He says, "no" and just turns and walks away. I thought, "WHAT THE HECK". You guy's are definitely NOT getting my business. One of my brothers asks an employee about Glock accessory's, and so, the employee asks are you in law enforcement? My brother say's, "no". The employee say's, "oh" . -The employee's attitude changes from pleasant to irritated. If you aren't Law Enforcement, they won't give you the time of day, meaning you are Not Important. I can tell you this much, they just lost a total of 5 potential long-term customers. The 5th being another one of my brothers that didn't come with us. Their prices ARE ridiculous. But, If they weren't so stuck on LE's middle leg, I would probably be able to overlook it. I'd say that they are the second most expensive in Honolulu. This place has a decent selection. Not great, but not bad, either. Personally, I thought it was a bit pricey, but not in the 'gauging' territory. Parking is either street, which is HORRIBLE, or on the side of their unmarked building, there's a small alleyway with a couple of stalls in the back. Favorite place to purchase pepper spray! With the changing climate in crime in Hawaii and rise in theft, robberies, disappearances etc, it is apparent that we need to be more vigilant of our surroundings. Carrying pepper spray especially if you're a woman is a smart thing to protect yourself. Anyone who knows knives, knows that the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for some reason is VERY hard to find right now. Go online and all you see are "out of stock" and "preorder only" signs on every site. Call around and all you hear is, "Pfft, good luck..." Well, Security Equipment had it. On top of that, as rare and "in demand" as it is, there was a discount on that design. But what I'm really writing about is the service. I didn't get his name but on the receipt it says "Cashier: Ants" (big guy, Asian, wears glasses). SUPER easy going and soft spoken but personable. Simply, a nice guy. I called ahead and he gladly put one on the side for me and before cashing out, asked if I needed to get a sharpener too. Of course, that's a good way to upgrade a sale but it also tells the customer that you're looking out for him/her and thinking about their needs. I told him not today but I'll probably be back and I probably will. So if you're looking for a well-stocked store with competitive prices and a possible "pot-o-gold" item, save some time and check these guys out first. I have been there half a dozen times and I'll recall my first experience walking in. To that point, I had been to the other major players - OGC, YG, KGS, and this was one of the last "main" shops that I hadn't been to. I walked in and while the place is "small", it's definitely packed with GREAT products. I wasn't greeted as I entered, which is fine by me. Being new to a store, I rather not have attention brought to me until I bring it to them. Their prices on their gun selection is great. Being a CZ dealer, they had a nice price on a CZSP01 Tactical (about $50 cheaper than anywhere else on the island). The staff did ask if I needed any help after they had addressed immediate customers. I asked some questions on a future AR purchase and Ants (sp?) was VERY informative and did not pressure me in the slightest to purchase anything. That is the kind of service I always hope for. The Staff: I usually go straight to Henry or Anthony. They are really cool, easy to deal with, and also knowledgeable. The rest of the staff (sorry I don't know their names) are also similar. I have yet to purchase a firearm from here (for some reason the timing just has never been right); however I have bought most of my accessories (holsters, belts, etc.) and ammo from here. I was having such a difficult time finding 9mm ammo because of the current ammo shortage, and I was halfway through my reserve stash and wanted to get more to be safe. I was sure SEC wouldn't have any since none of the other shops I frequent had any or had a limit. To my surprise, I gave them a call and they did !! So I rushed down there and picked up a case. It was pretty pricey, but all things considered I thought it was fair. I guess it's just the premium you have to pay during these times. plus no other shops had any in stock at the moment or had a limit so I said what the heck why not. Customer service was good, the woman at the front door was friendly and helped me find what I was looking for quickly. I didn't hang around for too long but the store seemed to be very well stocked. If you are law enforcement or military check these guys out first! They have specially prices firearms for LE/MIL. I made the mistake of buying my first handgun from another dealer and paid $200 more than the LE/MIL price at Security Equipment. Plus the Glock 22 they had there had night sights, so the cost was actually $300 savings once I took off the plain factory sights and installed HI-VIS night sights on my Glock 22. Just be advised for you new handgun or rifle buyers.....I paid a big price to learn the hard way. read more

After significant shopping around, I finally arrived at SEC. I showed up just before they closed and I can't imagine a better initial interaction. The first person I talked to was a man named Russ. He was very nice, very knowledgeable, and very patient. (remember I showed up less than an hour before they were closing). About fifteen minutes into it, a man named Jason worked his way into the conversation and worked with Russ to get me the weapon I wanted. (not condescending in the least) These guys are on the ball. They took their time, they showed me different weapons, and explained the little idiosyncrasies that made each weapon different from the other. IN SHORT, they freakin Rock. So much so that I bought my Springfield Saint AR right there and then. If you dont check these guys out before you buy, you are making a big mistake. I recently visited security Equipment with the intent of purchasing a glock 22 but, I wanted to see if they carried some upgrades and parts. I started to ask questions about specific upgrades (which they have little to none) the guy interrupts and ask's,"Are you H.P.D.?" I was a little thrown off by the interruption and when i told him," No im not with H.P.D. " He disengages from our conversation and kinda left me standing there while he made himself appear suddenly busy with another task.I felt like these guys Discriminated against me because i am not a police officer and thats just messed up! I'd never do buisness with an establishment that DISCRIMINATES against any customer for any reason. Walking into Security Equipment is always a pleasant experience. From the time when Cyrus was alive and running the store until today, customer service is always excellent. This is the only gun shop in Hawaii that I've seen/been to where they love bringing out weapons for you to handle. They've never seen me before, but no one include SEC has given anything that I would consider "attitude".
