Our experience started good until our merchandise was destroyed with mold and mildew! At first we filed a claim with their insurance company {CMI) Claims Management Inc.} which quickly got denied. Then we set an appointment for our claims adjuster and pictures was taken and he proved that water condensation was evidence that the damage to our merchandise was their fault! Their insurance company didn't even send a claims adjuster to deny the claim, they denied it and we took pictures to prove that our merchandise was destroyed with mold and mildew! Our insurance company said it was the self-storage responsibility to compensate us for the destruction of our property. Therefore, it appears that each one is passing the buck to the other. However, we lost over $2,000.00 of merchandise. And after removing and salvaging what we could, they don't provide a dumpster like the average storage facility. They also have NO KIND of remorse for the lost of our items. Kristi doesn't care about anything but collecting payments for her welfare! She even quoted that if our adjuster could prove that it's their fault, their insurance would compensate for the damages. That's a LIE! Because all of a sudden the lady in charge (CMI) went on vacation and we never heard from them ever!! Kristi took pictures and claim she turned them into CMI. Kristi is a liar and is a manipulator using (FABRICATED) policies to control others to again COLLECT PAYMENT for her welfare!!! I would NEVER refer them to anyone because it is BAD BUSINESS to use fabricated policies to manipulate others and NOT pay them for their damaged merchandise which was caused by them! Poor service from the owner of the company. Connie is lackadaisical, doesn't care. We always have issues with the gate being open, cameras that are broken. Also it's been about 2 months and nothing has been done about the gravel road that has a huge hole at the entrance. If you care about your vehicle recommend you be careful because that path is horrendous. Worse part is that I just feel our belongings aren't safe at Security Self Storage. read more

Very clean storage units, with helpful staff, and seems like reasonable prices. They gave us a larger unit than we needed for the same price as a smaller unit that we saw online because the smaller unit was not available. Only (minor) issue - the parking area to access the indoor units is also used for the extra U-Haul trucks so some of the access doors can be blocked or not easy to get to, and one of the doors is up a short set of stairs. read more

I was tricked into thinking I was getting the advertised special on the sign, advertised when driving past the location. I am too trusting and didn't read over the contract. I also called to make sure i would getvthe deal going throught he website and was given false information. I start getting reminders to pay and I was umm..what! and they only gave me 1month free and said I wasn't set up for the 2month deal. I spoke with Cierra whom stated she was a manager and said I had no proof so I had to pay for the 2nd month. I was contacted by a Robert who left a message, I returned his call and he never called back. Cierra told me she was going to have a supervisor reach out to me and never did. She claimed she spoke to them and they said the same thing. The only reason I used this facility is because I thought I was getting a better deal. I rented a truck from uhaul directly and they would have given Me a bigger cheaper storage space with a free month. read more

To everyone that rents a storage unit: When you move out take pictures of the unit before you leave and close your account! Some of these companies will change you for the least amount of dirt or dust. I use my blower and blow out the unit after it is swept out. Close the door before you leave so no trash can blow into the unit. Insist someone go look at the unit and sign off that it is clean and no cleaning fee will be charged. When I checked out my second unit at this company all I got was thanks for letting us know. They wanted me to leave before I said anything about them. They had customers renting units. I was in a hurry, wet through out with sweat and I was tired. I told them I blew the unit out and I left. I did not tell them that I took pictures of the unit. I rented a unit for years and I moved because my stuff and mostly all of my tools was rusting and the unit was ruining my other items. I had the first unit on the right as you go through the main gate. The down spout from the roof caused water to run under the door into my unit. They refused to fix the problem. We moved back to the area and I rented a unit on the left side, between the two entrances into the inside storage. I got what I thought was a very good price for being a returning customer. Oh how soon that big discount was removed with a six month increase in the rent followed by the annual increase. We had to move, the lease was up on the house we rented so the unit next to mine came open. I asked for the same price as the one beside it but they refused to give it. I talked them down to a fifteen dollar increase and rented it because we had s date we had to be out of our rented home. Two months later The rent went up. I asked why and all I got was we emailed you the rate increase. I never saw an email with a rate increase. I told the woman on the phone that and it really pissed me off to be lied to. I said one cuss word and she accused me of cussing her. I was not cussing her or at her... I called in my payments and I got ahold of this same woman again and from the get go she was rude. When I was at the unit I went and talked to the staff there. Was told they would look into it but they have a central call center now and you can't call the local location of your storage. I have moved out of both units now. I do not recommend this company. When I was a customer before I paid to park my enclosed trailer there. In under a week it was broken into and they refused to pay for anything. The damage to the trailer not what was stolen. I had my own insurance and they paid for what was stole but not the damage to the trailer. They told me they had night vision cameras but they was a lie. We had rented a house in a HOA area so I could not keep my trailer at my home. I ended up selling the trailer which I regret because did not have a safe place to keep it. As I was moving out they often parked the rental trucks so close to the exit gate you can't make the turn with a trailer without almost hitting the gate and backing up once. Two of the staff asked me why I was moving out after I had built such nice shelves to put my stuff on. They each promised to look into the rate increases and being rude to but like the one man said in his mold review.. No return calls! There are a lot of new completed storage units being built in that area. I would call around and check the prices and see if you can get a discount. Even if this place is the cheapest I would not do business with them. They require you to buy their insurance unless you have a homeowners or renters policy. This insurance is worthless! All they want is your money. Lastly I want to add not far up the road from this location is a very bad neighborhood. I lived in that area for many years and there are some very bad areas near there. My son went to Hillside high school. One of if not the worst high schools in NC. Every time I went there I made sure I had one or two of my Glocks with me with one very close to hand if after they closed. After dark I made sure I open carried to keep away those that may have had bad intentions. Way to many times after they had closed for business I was the only customer there and we had cars come up to the gate entering codes trying to get in only to drive off after several minutes. I do not recommend this company at any location! Especially this one! The 27713 area is a great place to live but recently the cost of living has increased to over 30% for renting and because of personal reasons we decided to leave Durham and move West two Counties where the cost of living, and the taxes are a lot lower! After looking for a storage unit at both Uncle Bob's (who were practically unfriendly, and certainly not welcoming) and Public Storage (fine, but the unit they showed us had a stream of water running through it..) we decided to try ONE MORE PLACE, and hit jackpot with Security Storage. Firstly, it was a welcoming atmosphere and staff, and you could feel that it was family run instead of corporate. Secondly, their rates and the add-ons (free locks, 2nd month free) beat both the other options handily. Both other places were around $97 or more for the same size that we got for $80/month. Used them for U-Haul rental and they were great. My original location was closed and they called me days in advance and sent me to a closer location. They only had a larger truck, but they charged me the original price I was quoted. upon arrival, the office staff was so friendly and made sure the truck was all clean (they even helped me back out of the lot).
