They completely ruined my great-grandmothers dresser, the top have wood chips missing, gashes, and broke the bottom drawer beyond repair and said it was like that and I KNOW it wasn't. Ruined a practically brand new entertainment center the exact same way, wood gashes down to the core, chipped wooden corners, and they admitted to that one. Said it happened in the truck, didn't use moving blankets to cover, so what did you expect to happen? When I filed a claim, all with AI because you can't reach a real human, the claim was approved and said I would receive a refund in 5-7 business days, haven't heard anything else from them and can't reach anyone. If I could give 0 stars, I would. We've used Bellhop multiple times with no issues so we decided to use them again for our last move. It was every bit of a nightmare. The loading team was a disaster. They couldn't figure out how to properly load the truck which resulted in being unable to transport all of our belongings and most of what they did load was damaged. They broke a bottle of vitamin oil, that belonged to one of them, all over our front porch and then tracked it all through our house and all over our carpet. Worst of all, they decided to load a gas can and diesel can, which belonged to the driver, into our belongings and those items leaked all over our furniture. It ruined quite a few items, including our kids bed. We are out almost $10,000 due to having to make accommodations for the rest of our belongings, carpet cleaning to remove the oil marks, hotels while we had to wait for new beds to deliver to our house, and miscellaneous replacements. Of course, weeks have gone by and we can't get any resolution from them. They promise that they are escalating it but then we hear nothing until we reach out again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. This was the worst moving experience I have ever had. The movers themselves were incredibly slow and had no strategy on how to appropriately unpack our moving truck. I ended up moving boxes myself because they were so slow. They were rude and on their phones a majority of the time. One of the movers tried to assemble our bed and broke the leg off of the footboard and then tried to cover it up by using wood glue. When they finally told us, the "team captain" couldn't give me a name or number to call regarding my claim. Used Bellhop twice. First time, one of the guys didn't show which caused the move to take longer. The two guys who did show did a good job though. It was ok overall. Maybe it was a fluke the guy didn't show (car problems). What could go wrong the second time? On the day of the move, 15 minutes before the scheduled start time, I get a call that there's no truck. They suggested rescheduling, but who has such flexible moving needs? The customer service guy (who was very nice to his credit) said he'd keep working on finding a new truck. Eventually, at 2:00pm, 6 hours after the scheduled start time, we had a truck and one mover (originally scheduled 3). Time to roll up my sleeves and move furniture I had already paid to have someone else move. I'm grateful for the driver and mover that showed up, but what if I didn't hace the strength to help move the furniture? Our move would have been cancelled and our day (week?) ruined. I can't recommend this company. The employees are nice, but the service is unreliable. Moving is too important to roll the dice. read more

If you are moving, Bellhop are your people. I have used them twice, and each time they have impressed me. Their app keeps you up to date on the status, including 3 days before they will tell you who the team is. Communication continues up until the move. When the team comes, they are profession and quick. My quick, they come in, take two three boxes at a time (the boxes are not light) and make sure the furniture is not damaged during the move. All of this and the price is competitive if not the cheapest in town. I can not speak highly enough of this company. read more

Very slick customer service experience leading up to and on moving day. The 3 movers were young, friendly, very respectful guys. They worked really fast and carefully, and there wasn't so much as a scratch on anything. I was also so pleased and impressed to see they kept their masks/bandannas on for the nearly 3 hours of moving our heavy furniture and boxes out of our third floor walk up apt and into our new house. If I could leave a 0 star review I would. I have used bellhops before and had no issues, but this second time was a disaster. The actual movers and move went amazingly. They were efficient and thorough. However, it was the $2,000 charge made to my credit card 4 days after the move that was absolutely absurd. I was only alerted about this charge by my bank. When I checked my bellhops dashboard, they had charged me for 54 HOURS OF SERVICE (instead of 3 hours). Mind you, this was a local move within 40 mins of each other. At that point, my dashboard said I had a $10,000 balance. When I tried to contact customer service, it took an hour just to get a hold of someone. I tried using the chat function as well as the phone number. When I finally did get a hold of someone, they were able to help me and gave me a total refund due to the inconvenience. That was the least they could do for charging my credit card DAYS after my move with no explanation as to why that happened. HOWEVER, an hour later another customer service rep calls saying the exact opposite. They said they will wait until the full refund gets back to my card AND THEN charge me again for the service. It took almost a week for the refund to even get back to my credit card, so basically they had free money from me. Unacceptable. Unprofessional customer service. Inappropriate use of customer's payment information. I will never recommend bellhops again read more

DON'T USE THEM! They will provide you a quote, and then bill you COMPLETELY different. Hidden fees, being charged for travel time for the truck and stuff to you, and to their next move. The customer service pre-move is really good, and then you get to move day and no one answers the phone. Then once they charge you the final bill, good luck ever hearing from them again- put on hold for extended periods of time, transferred to multiple people who can't help, and then finally told they will call you back, and then they never do. Original review: After having a good experience with the Bellhops team that helped load my trailer in Charlotte, I didn't hesitate to book Bellhops again to unload my trailer in Durham. I requested three Bellhops to help unload a 28' moving trailer. Less than an hour before they were scheduled to arrive, I got a call from the local office saying that one of my Bellhops was no longer available and they were looking for a replacement. That's the last I heard from them. Granted, I didn't have to pay for the person who didn't show up. However, the purpose of hiring them in the first place was to make the move easier on me and my family. Instead, I did as much or more work than the people I paid. The Bellhops showed up on time. The first, Palmer, was very polite, respectful, and friendly. The second, Michael, was none of those things. He immediately wandered into my house without permission, and the rudeness continued from there. Laziness was common as well. Instead of asking where things went, they dumped a bunch of clearly labeled boxes in the garage instead of bringing them inside. Maybe if they were not on their phones so much, they would have been able to read the labels. Overall, the team was inefficient. They were able to move everything on the truck, but walls and doors got damaged, boxes got crushed, and items got broken. I felt a bit bad for them since the obviously-needed third person didn't show up, so I tipped them generously and fed them pizza, but I regret doing so. To cap it all off, Bellhops had issues with their card processing for nearly a week, and their customer service was far from helpful, acting like it was my problem instead of something on their end. Frustrating. Because of this experience, I won't be using Bellhops in the future, at least in the Durham area. Management here borders on incompetence. read more

Everyone that I interacted with at this company was really nice but I would not use this company again. One of the movers was on his phone often, which could've contributed to my slower move, thus increasing my cost. But they were such nice young guys that I didn't say anything at the time as I chalked it up to youth and that generation work ethic. Next time I will definitely hire a company with more seasoned movers. Also after I made my reservation, I noticed a Groupon that had 20% off labor which I inquired with the company if I can purchase and use after booking. I was told no need as they would apply the comparable in house discount. Well I got a discount but it wasn't even 10% off the labor. I fault myself for not catching this before approving the invoice. However I did notice they overcharged me for one of the movers which was fixed. On a positive note they were on time and a pleasure to interact with. The movers handled my items with care and was very polite. Zero stars!!! Warning do NOT use this company for moving services!!! My husband and I booked well over a month in advance for our move. The day before our move we were confirmed for 3 movers, a truck, and a driver at 8am. At 7:45am on the day of our move, we get a call saying the truck broke down and saying they may need to reschedule. We needed to be out of our townhouse that day! They said they would "try" to get a truck by 2pm. Being on edge, I called at 10am and was told that they had a truck but no movers!!! At 1:45pm we get a truck and one young gentleman to move our furniture. They sent one person to move all of our furniture by himself!!!! Since we had to be out by 5pm when the office closed, my husband and myself had to move all of it by ourselves with this one young gentleman. This gentleman alone would have never been able to handle the furniture by himself. He would have ended up hurting himself if he tried. Bellhop had already taken over $600 of our money out of our account for the services they didn't provide. I will be filing a claim in small claims court against them and let everyone I know not to use their services. When I called they wanted to tell me how they did provide the services. They did nothing but cause me anguish and I will let everyone know never to use them, please find another moving company. read more

So far, not great, and we haven't even moved yet. I contacted Bellhops to schedule an August move, and I should've taken the nonresponse to my wanting to pay the deposit and schedule the move as a warning. I finally did reserve the move and paid the deposit, but now I'm in this crazy Catch-22 situation where I'm moving to Chicago, and the city requires a moving truck parking permit. I called Bellhops, and they said they will not request something like that for a move. I call the City of Chicago, and they say only the moving company can request that. I asked what I'm supposed to do, and the Bellhops customer service rep said, "Well, we usually tell people to park cars to reserve space." Clearly, this person has never tried to park just one car in the city of Chicago let alone multiple cars to save enough room for a moving truck. I am really hoping someone at Bellhops sees this and helps because I'm not entirely sure what I'll be paying for if the truck doesn't have anywhere to park! read more

UPDATE: Finally confirmed with the company that after their second promise to make things right (reimburse me for my overdraft fees), they now refuse to do even that. They cite that they tell you you'll be charged early in the fine print. What they don't say is that that pre-authorization amount can be a totally arbitrary number, higher than the amount they quote for your move. Please take this warning seriously: not only will this company screw you over if you give them half the chance, they will not in any way, shape, or form work with you to make the situation even slightly better. They simply don't care about their customers at all. ORIGINAL REVIEW: After I previously hired movers in Austin, TX, I said to myself that I'd never move again without help. Unfortunately, this company did not live up to the high expectations set by those previous movers. The problems first started when, despite their emails and website saying, verbatim, "You will not be charged until after your move," they charged me -- two days BEFORE the move -- an amount that was greater than what they had actually quoted. As a result, I hadn't yet deposited my paycheck, and this led to my bank account being overdrafted. I've been accruing charges and a negative balance ever since, and haven't been able to get the situation fixed. When I called to complain the first time, the woman on the phone said the money charged already would be refunded so I could attempt to make the situation right with my bank, and then work out a payment plan with them after the fact. That never happened, and when I called back a second time, they said they couldn't actually do that. It seems clear that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing over there. Speaking of that, during the actual move, the first mover who showed up had no idea what was going on; he was asking ME if I had a truck for them, and other questions that didn't exactly inspire confidence. Long story short, they ended up taking about 150% longer than what I was quoted, broke two bookcases and a lamp, and then tried to charge me AGAIN, resulting in yet more fees. To summarize: - they lied about when they would charge and haven't made it right yet - they took substantially longer than they quoted (one of the movers was great, the other was pretty slow and rude) - when the company first showed up, they had no idea what was going on; not a great first impression - they broke three things and didn't offer any kind of discount I definitely would not recommend this service to anyone else. read more

We used Bellhops Durham NC last weekend. We were very impressed with the company from start to finish. Everything was set up easily thru the company with just a few questions from them. When our date changed they were able to move it with no problem. The young men who were our movers, Ryan and Josh, were awesome.They showed up for the job EARLY! They were polite, well mannered and pleasant to be around. We were so impressed with how hard working they were. We never saw them on a cell phone or taking a break. Whatever we ask them to do they were happy to do it. They were fast, efficient and very careful with our things. We would highly recommend this company. read more

Steer clear!! We booked 2 bellhops to help us unload our uhaul truck at our new home. Unfortunately, one just never showed up. I called their customer service help line and they assured me they would find a replacement and call me back in 15min. 45 min later and still no return call or 2nd Bellhop. I call back again and end up talking with a different help/support person. She is completely unaware of the situation and zero progress has been made in trying to find a replacement. At this point we were 1hr into our 2hr move so I told them to forget it since clearly they were not going to find a replacement in a timely fashion. My husband and his father ended up doing the majority of the heavy lifting - exactly what we were trying to avoid by hiring movers. We were offered a discount, but certainly not one that made up for the fact that we hired them to move us in and they completely failed to do that. The bellhop who did show up worked hard and was an extra pair of hands to lift, but he was not a mover - he had no clue what he was doing. While carrying a small nightstand in he took a chunk out of the corner of our wall, and then later pushed a piece of furniture across the floor leaving a significant scratch across the hardwood. Overall, bellhops made our move in day a lot more stressful and A LOT more work. read more

What an awesome experience! Eric, Avery, Jacob and Brandon helped us empty two PODS that arrived from Michigan into our new home in less than two hours, including a piano!!!! Every box is neatly placed in the correct room, and furniture handled carefully. They arrived on time, were courteous, took direction well, and worked well together. My wife and I have had two good experiences with Bellhops so far, and couldn't be happier. Once we learned of them, we were able to schedule them for an in-the-house moving job to take place 48 hours later. (Another popular moving service in Durham said they were booked for the next month.) The price was very reasonable, I thought, considering that I'm 69 years old with occasional back problems. My older son and I might have been able to do this job, but I expect I would have paid the price, physically. read more
