The rooms are spacious, very clean, full kitchen, large bathroom, very very comfortable bed, living room, dinning room, a nice balcony and chairs for you to enjoy view of the water, sunset and sunrise, easy access to boardwalk and gazebo on small pier. Also with access to a large swimming pool and hot tub for relaxation... Another plus is it's located between Manteo and Kitty Hawk, so you have plenty of options of places to go for drinks, a good meal, sight seeing, or for a good time in the water. If you are planning to come out here do keep them in mind for a great and comforting stay. Do inquire about specials for special events and specials rooms. We stayed in one of the suites with a separate bedroom, which worked out great. There was a lot of space to spread out. Something minor to some but I loved being able to self-park close to the room. I love the building with its weathered shaker shingles, bright green door, and welcoming walkway lined with flowerpots. It looked like something out of a movie, beautiful! Inside, the lobby was dim, full of antiques, dark wood, vintage Tiffany lamps, Oriental rugs, faded chintz, a cuckoo clock and abundant in English charm. The owner of the inn was "off duty" but she left our keys and towels on the huge heirloom desk in the parlor. Talk about trusting your visitors... this was a sweet surprise. Our room was just as charming as the lobby, appointed with aged floral wallpaper, red and white checkered calico quilts on the beds, vintage furnishings and pictures of a bygone era. It was certainly cozy and warm. What could've improved was the twin bed I slept in... it wasn't very comfortable as it was saggy... new mattress please, smiley face! My friend's queen bed was comfy though, she said. Another thing I would have appreciated is a set of soft, matching towels. Although the bathroom was clean, the towels were rough, mix matched, and worn. This is an easy fix to take this inn up a notch! We only stayed one night, and when we checked out, again the phantom innkeeper was nowhere to be seen. While I appreciate the trustworthiness of the owner allowing its guests to check themselves in and out, we did encounter a couple of issues that would have warranted face-to-face contact. Next door lives a relative of the owner, I believe, and they have the yappiest little dog I've ever heard. No need for a wake up call here, lol! With a couple of improvements and a bit of sprucing, I think this idyllic country inn could easily be 5 stars! Maybe upon my next visit, I can meet the owner and they can earn that elusive 5th star *!!

When you cross that bridge and roll the windows down all your worries seems to blow right out Every year I see all these great unique spots I want to stop and explore such as Peace of the Past on 460 or Carolina Charm in Currituck ... Every year my husband just flys right on by them I decided to take an overnight trip and stop at each and every unique place I've always wanted to explore for the past 15 plus years . I get my good friend involved and on board . She's always up for a road trip . That's how I stumbled upon this quaint little place . We both like Tea Rooms and B&B's so I started calling and most places would not accommodate an overnight stay. A minimum of 2 days were required. An owner to one B&B suggested the Scarborough House Inn not to be confused with Scarborough Inn . I expressed my appreciation and quickly looked up the number to see if I could book my reservations.(it was Wednesday and we were leaving the next day) I was so elated that the lady on the phone was happy to accommodate us for just one night . She suggested the room with a queen bed and a twin . All the rooms are antique inspired. Although not a B&B , it has all the charm of one. (because of not serving breakfast. It has English country cottage charm . We arrived later that evening and on the desk in the lobby was a note to me from Ruth along with my key to Room 3 . The room was cool and quite charming more than I even expected . We had a small refrigerator / freezer , microwave , coffee pot ,TV and a small table to eat at . The room was a nice size and the decor will take you back in time . From the quilts on the bed to the 4 poster queen bed give you a feeling of home even though your away from home. So quaint and charming . I look forward to planning another trip to Manteo and booking my accommodations here at the Inn.

Be sure to bring extra TP. Only one roll per bathroom. Parking for 3 cars max, one in garage, one in driveway, and one in the designated parking spot. I did see a beach wagon , skim board, extra tank of propane and a few other odds n ends in the garage. This is a nice community with like rental housing with houses painted in a beach color theme. You do have a easy access drive up area to dispose of your trash. Overall nice accommodations. Not a gated community and as I was loading up to leave , a older van started up next to me in the parking spot. It was loud( no muffler ) and the fumes were pointing right at me from the exhaust pipe. As I was coughing, I went up to the window to ask if they could turn off the engine till I was finished. Too my surprise, I seen two guys smoking, not pot but crack. They were startled and I asked them to turn off the engine it was choking me out with the exhaust. They must have spent the night in the van because I did not see anyone get in it while I was loading up my SUV. They did turn off the van, it had a name of a Church from VA on the side. Then they turned it on again and too off. Good. Like I said it was not a gated community. Also a problem with communication: No Phone number for company , no answer for the number on Yelp and no voice mail. I found and cleaned black mold from the bathroom. The gas grill did not light, the HVAC filter was filthy, should have been changed a few months ago. No number to communicate with owners, unable to resolve any problems. Otherwise it was a ok place to stay.

It was difficult getting my 10 month old son to sleep through the marching band and announcer...the game ended around 10:30pm. - No clear instructions for check in. We drove around for an hour once we got there trying to find a check in office. Here's a tip - there is no check in office! You call and check in over the phone and the office gives you the passcode to the house. Apparently they are supposed to email you with this info the day before, but since I booked through Expedia they did not have my contact info. A little frustrating to start our vacay that way. All in all I was very impressed with the value and we will likely return!

This place allowed me to stay only one night, and was about $150 for one night, which is actually standard for a B&B. It was my first time ever staying in a Bed and Breakfast, and it won't be my last if all of them are like this one! I pulled up on a Saturday, and was about 30 minutes early before check-in. It was scorching outside at the time as it was in early August, and Lynn came out and asked if I was okay. I told her I was waiting for 2 pm, which was check in time, and she allowed me to come on in as the room was already, ready! Her maiden name was my last name was we hit it off immediately and joked that we might be related. She was very professional, and answered any question that I may have had regarding my stay. She showed me to my room, and even offered me warm baked chocolate chip cookies, as well as sodas and juice in he refrigerator which was open to guests. Lynn asked me did I need any help about activities to do on the Outer Banks, but I told her I would just be going to the wedding, and heading out in the morning. She made sure to leave the porch light for me as she knew I would be coming home late from the wedding! The room was very clean, it had all the towels, wash clothes, and any accessories that one would need when staying there. The TV was a bubble screen, and was really outdated, but I barely watched any television for me so that was a non-issue for me. The bed was very comfortable, and the house was very quiet as well, which allowed me to get some great sleep before the wedding, and later that night when I cam back. The next morning as I packed up, Lynn, and her husband, had cooked breakfast for me that included muffins, eggs, bacon, and grits which were delicious with the orange juice I had as well! We talked it up a bit, and they also gave me a brochure about the B&B in case I come back out that way. My husband and I have stayed in a number of bed and breakfasts. This one was nowhere near the…read morebest. We stayed in the Sea Level room due to my recent knee injury. The unit is not represented well in the photos. The queen size bed is shoved up against a wall on one side so you can only enter from one side or the end of the bed. There are no side tables to charge phones or set glasses, etc. There's no room for them because the bedroom is that small. I use a CPAP and was unable to use it the whole time we were there as there was nowhere to put it and you can't put them on the floor. You had to turn sideways to squeeze between a corner and the refrigerator to get into the very tiny bathroom. The shower was extremely small, you can't even raise your arms much to wash your hair as there is not enough room in the shower. There is lots of deferred maintenance at this property, rotting wood, trex type boards with no support beneath so they sagged when you stepped on them (walkways and pool deck), formica countertop in room was unfinished on one end, shotty carpentry work throughout the Sea Level unit and lots of bugs (little ones that I have no idea what they were). The homes all around this one were very well maintained but this one stands out as being neglected. Breakfast was packets of instant oatmeal or grits, bagels and apples and bananas, a far cry from what most bnb's offer. At the very least most bnb's offer at least some type of baked item. We will not stay here again. We were celebrating our anniversary and this room was not at all what we had envisioned from the photos. We loved the Outer Banks and will probably visit again but choose a much better place to stay.

A DEEP clean is way overdue! We stayed one night after…read morespending the day in Ocracoke - we checked in late in the night and Mike was kind enough to extend our checkout time to 11 a.m. However, we did not use the extra time given since we couldn't leave there quick enough. It was obvious the minute we entered our room (Deck Side Room) the cleaning was at best minimal. From carpet stains; bugs; mold in the bathroom; molded and dusty vents it instantly made us feel grungy! The room temperature was obnoxiously hot (even on a November night); and the wobbly and filthy ceiling fan barely did a thing. My girlfriend cleaned out dead bugs from the tub and to her surprise brown water came out of the faucet (after running for awhile it was clear water). Breakfast was set for a 6-year old chid - pop tarts, instant oatmeal & grits, 4 powdered doughnuts and single-serve cereal boxes. We used the Keurig to make our own coffee and discovered how gross and unkept the kitchen was. The powdered creamer was a solid brick with dead bugs in it; and the sugar was hard as a rock with rust on the lid! We did not expect to have to go to an amazing breakfast at WaveRider after spending over $200 at this "Bed & Breakfast" We do NOT recommend staying here unless you don't mind uncleanlinesses and just need a bed for the night. The only perk to this location is its proximity to beach.

Outdoor pool was nice, I didn't see the indoor pool since it was in the other building. Housekeeping did a great job with our room as well. My only criticisms would be that some things in our room need some TLC like the sliding door to the balcony would occasionally get stuck and the fridge/freezer was stuck on the highest setting which froze everything we put in there lol. But if you're letting these minor inconveniences ruin your time at the beach then you need to lighten up a bit. A wonderful spot to stay while on vacation

It was beautifully decorated, plenty of natural lighting.. We also had access to her 2 kayaks and 2 bikes. The waterfront is only about 2 blocks away which was very convenient. There are plenty of little shops, great restaurants, an old timey theatre, general store, and trails all within walking distance (just a few minutes away). I will definitely return!!

The proximity to the beach was an absolutely bonus for the teens. Very close to restaurants but you really don't have to go anywhere as everything that you have at home, they have it at the cottage. Great communication with owner! I would recommend this cottage to everyone. Perfect view of the beach from the screened porch while enjoying your coffee or choice beverage.
