The air is laced with the soft, intoxicating scent of candles that whisper of Versailles--warm, elegant, and just a little mysterious. Every corner feels intentional, yet effortlessly discovered, as if you've stumbled upon a hidden treasure. The vintage wood cabinets, adorned with delicate carved floral details, hold pieces that feel storied and timeless. You can't help but run your fingers along them, imagining the lives they've lived before finding their way here. Books are tucked in just the right places, each one seeming to promise a journey somewhere romantic--Paris, the countryside, or a forgotten garden. There's a moody iron tulip lamp that glows like a quiet poem, casting shadows that make you want to linger just a little longer. And then, almost like a secret, the plant and floral room tucked in the back--lush, inviting, and softly enchanting--feels like stepping into a hidden conservatory. Love the store, hate the new protocol for ringing up. I can appreciate it's probably because people…read moresuck and steal. HOWEVER, it's incredibly awkward, annoying and desperately needs improvement. The way the registers are set up are cubbies on each side of the monitor/scanner/pinpad. This is so you can unload on the right side, scan in the middle, then in the bag on the left. The way this store is doing it, is the employee stands there awkwardly block the left side of the register, waiting for you to put your items on the table, max like 5 items because the table is very small. She scans, then hands it back to you...one. item.at.a.time. I am not even over exaggerating, this has happened the last 4 times I've been here. So not only am I unloading 5 items at a time, but I have to wait there for 1 item to be scanned then handed back, then I put it in the bag, until the table is cleared, then I add another 5 items and so on and so forth... If 5 below is adopting this new policy of having employees scan your items, wouldn't it make sense for them to then put them in the bag too? I mean...how does this model work when it's busy? It was actually insane how awkward and slow this whole ordeal was, it makes me not want yo go back and that sucks because my son and I like to go pretty frequently. I wouldn't even mind if an employee stood right next to me while I scanned each item. That would actually be less awkward than this ridiculous new setup.

Of course, like usual with Five Below, I ended up browsing around and finding more things than what I originally came in for lol. They have a lot of cute and affordable stuff throughout the store. I saw Hello Kitty coloring books, accessories, toys, beauty items, and a really cute selection of mini backpacks. Some of the Hello Kitty and Snoopy backpacks honestly reminded me of the Loungefly style but for a much cheaper price. They also had plenty of other characters and designs to choose from. I ended up getting a shirt too, but this is where my experience wasn't so great. While looking through the clothing section, I noticed ants crawling around the shelf and near the clothes. There were enough that I actually had to shake the shirt out and check it carefully before buying it to make sure there weren't any ants on it. I even took a picture because it definitely caught me off guard. Hopefully that's something the store takes care of because you don't want bugs crawling around merchandise you're about to bring home. Besides the ant situation, this location has a ton of good finds. You can come in looking for one little thing and easily find five more things you didn't know you wanted. The prices are affordable, there's a huge variety, and that's really the whole point of Five Below. Definitely a fun store to browse in Morgan Hill, but the clothing area could use some attention because of the ants.

Stephanie is a fabulous host, friendly and responsive and knowledgeable, comfortable engaging with guests and sharing about her farm business. I particularly enjoyed the chance to feed the pastured chickens and gather eggs from their coops. (My first time for both.) While visiting with the birds in their run, you see them scratching for bugs, dust bathing and foraging. Stephanie also demonstrated how the farm harvests, cleans and packs eggs for sale. It was a treat to bring home a carton of the fresh eggs that we hand collected - some from right under the hen. I loved the beautiful shell colors, green and blue in addition to the familiar white and brown. (Breed determines egg color.) There are many animal residents at The Nest Box. During the visit, I also saw a duck (waddling among the chickens), cat, cow and pigs. I left the farm thinking that the animals at The Nest Box are fortunate to be so well cared for. This tour is appropriate for both children and adults, and will be of particular interest to those curious about animals and where food comes from. The activity is not physically taxing, other than being on your feet and in the sun. Pro tips: Wear sun protection and closed-toe shoes that you do not mind getting dusty.

I spoke with a friend about our experiences at Johnson's, and we both agreed, it feels like walking into an old western saloon where everyone knows "you ain't from around these parts!" I was looking to buy a magnolia, but wanted to know what the differences were, which is better for our environment, so I approached an employee who tried to avoid eye contact with me until he could do it no longer. He started stammering when I asked if he knew anything about the trees I had considered contenders. He fumbled with his walky-talky to try to find someone else to help me, but spotted (who I found out later was the manager) watering plants in the vicinity. He asked her if she could help and she replied rudely with "WHAT?" as she clearly saw me (the customer) asking a question. He stammered nervously and she followed up with "What do you want?" I jumped in and asked my questions about which is best and she said, "They're all pretty much the same." I asked if any were better for our climate/environment and she said with an attitude, "We don't sell anything that doesn't grow around here." She then curtly turned away and went on with watering the plants. I did not feel copacetic with her "customer service," so I bought my tree and decided not to go back. I would rather go to an establishment with less selection, but better service. Also, the prices are on the higher side for some things, but reasonable for others, it just depends on what it is. Either way, Home Depot works for me from now on, and if they don't have what I want, I'll research somewhere other than Johnson's. It's a shame, too, because the place is like walking through a botanical garden, only the vibe given by the staff is that "it ain't big enough for the both of us!"
