I can't believe I've never written a review for Seiwa! I've been here numerous times over the years, before and after Covid. There's ready made meals, sushi, sashimi, sides, snacks, sweets and drinks. For the chefs out there, they have premium quality meats and seafood too! Pretty much anything you'll need to complete a dish. The produce section may not be big, but it's satisfactory. On some occasions they'll have weekend pop-ups with tastings. The employees are helpful, and the store itself is clean. Something to be aware of, the line to checkout can be very long and hectic. Especially on weekends and during peak hours. If you're looking for a delightful Japanese meal, snack, or quality ingredients to whip up something magical, this is your place! read more

I haven't been to Seiwa before.. and it was recommended by some friends to make sushi night easy and yummy. It's a little far for us, but I wanted to check it out. I got so much fresh salmon, tuna and yellowtail. I find the pricing to be great, and worth it. We got big pieces and then cut it up at home and made our own nigiri. I also bought some sake, and it was definitely worth the drive to get! Check them out if you're trying to do your own sushi night and need some fresh, good food! read more

One of my favorite "hidden" gems of Houston. Seiwa market allows me to live out some of my Japan withdrawals in the comfort of this amazing grocery store. They have great priced produce, fun drinks, amazing snacks, a stellar selection of meats and sashimi as well as a prepared food section. I always buy boxed curry mix, rice, sushi/sashimi, thin sliced meats, and tons of fun snacks. Recently, they had a lot of their holiday gift boxes in stock already. Great Japanese market in the Katy area! I think I missed out on the prepared food because I came really late in the day. Too bad because I hear their hot food is really good. They do have a great assortment of sushi and sashimi if you don't want anything hot. The market itself is not huge but they carry a lot of great products. There is even a freezer with wagyu (I think it might be A4 but can't tell) located towards the back by the seafood!! This has to be my favorite semi-lowkey Japanese store for fresh sashimi and other foods! Inside the store is a lot smaller than expected but they have the best goodies! In the refrigerated section, you will find an assortment of foods and treats ranging from donburi bowls, onigiris, makis, tonkatsu, cream puffs, and even pre-made gourmet ramen bowls! It's definitely difficult not to buy everything, and it is all super affordable and high quality! All of the workers are so lovely and nice. They are always cranking fresh sushi in the morning. The person at the cash register will always try to make small talk, and they're super quick with scanning and bagging. This place is my favorite to go to for fresh sashimi and other Japanese goods. My favorite Japanese grocery store!! Love their sushi, snacks, drinks... basically everything in the store. My sister and I visited seiwa a little over a week after the storm, but when we went, their refrigerated sections were practically wiped out as they were without power for days. They had some sushi though, which was great bc that's one of the primary reasons why I go. The sushi is sold at a very reasonable price, and the quality is pretty darn good and fresh! Tried out the yellowtail nigiri- it had a lightly fatty and buttery texture which was divine. Tuna temaki had a generous amount of filling, and I really enjoyed it. Try to visit before evening time before most of the sushi is gone. They have seating near the sushi section where the cafe used to be. I miss the cafe so much because they used to serve udon and all kinds of dishes before the pandemic. It is what it is. As for the matcha powder section, they didn't have anything that was appealing to me but still check it out and see the selection they have. Seiwa Market is pretty quality. Food is always above average and the variety of hot food is good when there is still availability (if you get there after 2pm, you'll have slim pickings). I like the little Katsu sando with some kewpie Mayo. AND they used to have this super basic spaghetti that was hard to put down. Please bring back the spaghetti. Meats are good but expensive. I wonder if the prices will stay high now that Ranch 99 is around the corner. There is another VERY nice "thing" about this place.... Not sure if I should say.... Just go to Seiwa and look around. I didn't even know this place existed! I wanted to try out the restaurant next door but they were closed so I popped in here to see if I could get something to eat. I just recently visited Japan so it was really cool to see familiar items! I came in 45 minutes before they closed so all the in store made food was cleaned out by customers already. Seiwa Market holds a special place in my heart. I love coming here for their prepackaged meals, fresh sushi, and groceries... especially if I'm trying to cook Japanese food at home. It's a small and cute little market but it honestly has everything you need for cooking Japanese food at home. Good selection of fresh sashimi, meats, and fish for cooking. They sell good quality produce as well. Lots of unique Japanese snacks and sweets too if you're into that. Being from Hawaiʻi, finding this place in Houston was awesome. This is the first Market that I've been able to find Portuguese sausage & arare (mochi crunch). They also had Hawaiian sweet potato, which I used to make laulau & sweet potato haupia pie. The place is so clean. And although we didn't buy fish that day, their fish/sashimi looked fresh! Good selection of products in a very compact store. Prices are not bad. Went in around lunchtime on a saturday, they seemed to be out for many sushi items. but the one I tried was good. The binto box was very good, except for the rice. There was a long line at checkout, but it moved very fast. If you are looking for Japanese specialty items I would give Seiwa a try. read more

Wow! I absolutely love this market! Loaded with products from Japan and fresh fish/meat selection... I would come back in a heart beat! I loved that they had a prepared meal/bento box section where everything looked fresh. The prices were good for being imported, the meats looked marbled and gorgeous, the snack/drink areas were fully stocked. I loved it! I ended up grabbing some onigiri and melon pan! Great spot to get some authentically Japanese, home-cooked food by the management staff. The menu rotates daily, so it's a great way to try new dishes that are prepared fresh from the kitchen. Bear in mind that are much more options on Saturday and Sunday, but make sure to get there early, since some items tend to run out quickly. Definitely the most authentic Japanese place to be found in Houston, next to the restaurant Izakaya-Wa (which is nearby in River Oaks). Very clean, modern and new. Clean establishment with a decent variety of Asian groceries/simple foods, especially Japanese specialty items. You'll find fresh ingredients to cook at home (from produce to noodles, condiments, or sushi-grade fish and fresh butchered meat), as well as a small food court offering grab-and-go, hot or cold prepared items you can chow down right away (like onigiri and rolls, tonkatsu, dons, and sweets). For your convenience, there's even a microwave and disposable utensils station next to the cash registers; it's a nice courtesy for customers who want to quickly nuke their meal. The one disappointing part is that on our recent visit, more than half of the shelves were empty (especially at the prepared food stations). To note, we stopped in on a Saturday morning, quite early... So, I'm not sure if things happen to sell out super early or if they weren't prepared yet. I've never had a bad experience shopping at Seiwa besides me going too late and their offerings or sold out :( This is my go to for raw fish for sushi nights. Fresh. Delicious. No smell. This market was EXTREMELY CLEAN! Everything was so organized. I had a couple of onigiri and this bowl, it was really good! I really came in for the dango but they were sold out along with other sweets. I came in around 2pm where a lot of the Already-Made items were gone. Seiwa is one of my favorite places to go for food and Japanese produce. I really miss them before the pandemic when they had the hot foods section. Every time I go here, I always grab some premade refrigerated foods, which are always delicious. They always have a wide variety of foods daily, but you have to make sure to go early otherwise they'll run out (usually by 1-2pm). There's a microwave that you can heat your foods if you choose to. There's premade bento, rice bowls, onigiri, meats, desserts, and more for you to choose from. They also have a nice variety of Japanese breads daily that you can get if you go early enough. They have a ton of snacks and drinks as well as a sashimi section. They are mostly a store for foods and produces, so they don't have things like kitchen equipments or cosmetics, but you can get those a couple stores down at Japan House instead. read more

I love Japanese food so when I saw this place on TikTok, I immediately had to go check it out. The supermarket is pretty small however they had a lot of things to choose from. I love matcha, and the fact that I found these treats that had chocolate in them, I HAD to buy them; I'm obsessed! Someone on the reviews recommend the crab futomaki, and it did not disappoint. We came during lunch time on a weekend and we grabbed the last Royal Milk tea can they had haha, there's a reason why this drink is so popular! While this Japanese grocery store is not the largest, it is plenty big to house a variety of unique Japanese items! The inside of the store is brightly & warmly lit, with extremely organized & clean aisles. There is a small section of produce by the entrance, with refrigerated & frozen items directly behind. Meat and seafood are located along the back wall of the store. The aisles are filled with plenty of authentic Japanese goodies as well, including noodles, seaweed, snacks, and drinks. Although there is no actual food court or sit-down area, there are plenty of ready-to-eat refrigerated items for sale along the left side of the store. Sushi-grade fish & seafood are tucked into the back left corner, right next to the ready-to-eat items. Be sure to not mix up the sushi-grade seafood with the regular seafood (which is located along the back of the store). I loved shopping here and picked up 4 boxes of curry, a couple rice balls, some sushi-grade fish, and a 2-liter bottle of the famous Ito En Koicha Bold Green Tea! read more

I wanted to like Seiwa a lot more than I did. Let's start with the good-there's a lot of great pantry staples and I'm appreciate of that. I would actually say for that it's a 4-5. As for fresh items, I don't feel like they lasted very long at all-despite their expiration dates not being met. Specifically I'm talking about the fish and steak. I will probably stick to markets closer to me for the time being, seeing as I drove all the way from Montrose. I will say, it's so nice that they offer free ice at the door if you take fresh items! However, the ice bucket was just about finished by the time I got to it. I will be back eventually if I happen to be near Katy:) Oh and I tried their famous egg salad everyone was raving about-comparing with egg salad I had in Japan and Korea, this one is a good basic Asian egg salad but it doesn't have seasoning. Not even black pepper..so if you want some flavor I don't recommend it. Last thing is service, their lines move quite fast even when they're busy! One thing that was a turn off though was one woman at checkout yelled at a couple customers when they didn't see her at first. I felt bad for them, as they were very embarrassed. It being a busy market, it's understandable that they didn't see the cashier at first. All in all, probably a 3-3.5/5 market experience. read more

I'm really impressed with the offerings of Seiwa market. It is a small grocery store with simple offerings. They have a small section of fruits and vegetables, a section of packaged vegetables. They have a small section of meats and poultry, a section of baked goods, a place to purchase sushi, teas, seasonings, oils and sauces, snacks savory and sweet, noodles, sake, and cold beverages. I love that they have a nice variety of Hawaiian Sun products! I should have taken more pictures in the store but I wanted to peruse and leave. Plus there's plenty on this page!
