SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY and UNNECESSARY WATER EXPOSURE TO YOUR FOUNDATION Poor preparedness in estimating, poor customer service, poor follow through, zero results, held deposit for almost 4 months after demanding a refund. In late April of 2021 we contacted Sela to complete out gutter installation project on our newly acquired home. The estimate provided was given in early May. A guy came to take pictures from the ground from various angles and left (never did he get on a ladder to inspect the decking or fascia). The estimate provided came with pictures and markings of where the gutters would be placed and locations of downspouts. Upon signing the work contract and paying our $1,000 deposit, we were left in the dark in regards to an estimated start date. By July 2021 I had to reach out to find out what was going on with our installation. We were told with labor shortages it could be a little longer (not a problem, understandable). In September, we were informed of an install date of September 8, 2021. On Sept 9th we got an email from Gavin stating that the decking on our roof was set back too far in order for the T-Straps to connect to and they would need to fix this before the install can occur. With a wasted day of missing work, the install crew and materials had to leave. This was out of the scope of work they had originally estimated. This should have been discovered the very first day the estimator came out in April when he came to take measurements, pictures, etc. Had he actually gotten up on a ladder to observe the shingles and decking for proper install in April this would have saved months of wasted time and unnecessary/prolonged water exposure to our foundation. The fascia could have been built out during this time. This was the whole reason we needed gutters as we were getting water in our basement. Instead they show up with their crew only to realize they cannot complete the job until the fascia boards are built out. When I contacted Sela (Tom) to meet me at our home to discuss this, he didn't show up at our agreed upon date/time. This was now November (6 months later). I emailed Gavin to inform him we wanted our deposit back and we were told Tom would reach out. As of now, we still have not received our deposit back nor do we have gutters. Extremely disappointed with the lack of preparedness with properly estimating the job (a "typical homes condition" should not be assumed to be the condition of each property). These conditions were not concealed and a simple observation from using a ladder would have avoided this massive waste of time. I did speak to Tom today (2/4/22) to let him know and their secretary my extreme displeasure with Sela Gutter, and he assured my refund would get sent out Monday. We'll see. I'm very disappointed with Sela. A few years ago, they installed gutters on our architect-designed home that has cedar siding and trim. This year, the ice on our roof pushed off some of the gutters along with the decorative cedar 1x6 fascia. We brought in a contractor to look at the issue, and the framer indicated that the gutter installation should have used screws that were long enough to go well past the 1-inch thick decorative fascia (which is attached with finish nails) and into the solid lumber behind it. The screws that Sela used were barely longer than the 1-inch thick decorative fascia. As a result, the weight of the gutter along with the pressure from the ice pushed off some of the gutters and the fascia. Sela refuses to back their work and re-attach the gutters properly with screws of an appropriate length. Here's the question: If your house has vinyl siding and a vinyl fascia, is it OK to attach the gutters only to the vinyl fascia? This is an equivalent situation, and clearly Sela does not understand cedar construction. I'm very disappointed in their lack of professionalism and their refusal to back up their work. read more

I had Sela replace my roof twice now. The first time was 20 years ago and then again this year due to hail damage. Both time the workers were prompt, courteous and did a great job. The also replaced my gutters with ones that are far superior to Gutter Topper by Bjorkstrand Exteriors. I will not hesitate to hire Sela in the future. read more

We had Sela install new gutters on our townhome. The workmen tore off the Rain Drip Strip that was tucked under the ice dam mat and install a different flashing strip that they laid on top of the ice dam mat. Now come spring with the freeze and thaw, I have water that leaks under that strip and down the fascia and dripping behind the flashing and trim. The wood will rot in a few years. They told me that they remove the Rain Drip to install the gutters. I called other installers and they don't remove the strip. They slip the gutter underneath it as it should be. Now Sela wants to charge me to fix their mistake which is B.S. read more

7/25/16 The new gutters and fascia are fine. But Sela has not yet installed soffits on the garage. I told the salesman I wanted all the existing wood to be covered so I would never need to paint again. The salesman seemed to understand my wishes, and calculated the charges accordingly. But the salesman failed to put soffits on the work order so the job never fully got completed. 9/9/16 Update: Sela had a bully salesman call to shout, argue, and insult me, concerning this online review. They offered to complete the job for an additional cost, but that is not acceptable. I had an issue with standing water in my gutter and asked that someone come out and check it out. After some time of non response, I posted a non favorable review on this very site! I am now updating it because I was contacted by Sela wanting to help. They had some personnel issues and have dealt with them. Now I have a gutter that drains correctly. Eli was very professional and explained what he did to fix the issue. He also apologized for what he had inherited, which actually did make me feel better. POS company. Workmanship is shoddy at best, use of inferior materials, use of incompetent workers. Don't bother trying to lodge a complaint against them, their work, or thei workers as they will just accuse you of lying or making things up. read more

I contracted Sela Gutter Connection to install my gutters 14 years ago based on reputation. When our gutter system started to leak this year, I reached out to them to schedule service. The representative told me that it would be 3 - 4 weeks for service, I would have to pay up front, and I would be given no more than 24 hours notice when the service was to be performed. Upon questioning the upfront payment and lack of notice, the representative's tone was clear that this company does not need loyal and returning customers. Obviously, they have enough work coming in. Good to know. I'll take all future business to a provider who understands the importance of building strong and lasting relationships with their customers. read more

We had all our gutters replaced by Sela Gutter Connection with the Leaf Guard Gutters. They did a fantastic job installing them and left our yard free from any gutter parts. Our lawn guy damaged the down spouts by accident and Sela came out the next week to replace the damaged spouts. We are very happy with the work done on our house. read more

To say we were satisfied is an understatement. The personnel were here on time and the work was done with the utmost care to make sure they did not harm any of the landscaping with their ladders. Then as I was watching I noticed how well they communicated with each other to make sure everything was cut, bent , and sized to perfection. I was so impressed with everything I plan to have Sela do our roof when the time comes. Thank you for the fine job the color of the gutters,down spouts , and leaf guard is great. I had several bids for gutter install on my new home this fall. I ended up choosing Sela with the promise they could be done in 4-5 weeks. The salesman was very nice. 2 months later, half the money down - no gutters. They've never informed me of the delays along the way, and the 2 times I called to check on the status, a very rude woman always answers and has no customer service skills at all. As if I am in the wrong for wondering what is going on. When I call to check in today - she tells me I'm basically out of luck as their crews are pretty much done for the year. So now I am left with no gutters, my new landscaping will get ruined in the spring when all the snow melts. The "options" presented to me were cancel my order or wait until Spring. I got a very insincere apology and that was that. Just so disappointed. read more

You don't matter to Sela Gutter Connection, only your money does. We got a bid to install gutters on our house and garage back in April. The sales experience was pleasant enough, and we decided to go ahead with the install. At that time, we asked when we should expect installation. We were told end of May or first week in June. The next day 1/2 of the total amount was deducted from our bank account and held as a down payment (they were very prompt about that) which was fine, and contractually, my end of the deal. That's were living up to the deal ended. Here we are, June 26th-still no gutters. I called a week and a half ago to inquire where they were. The woman on the phone told me I was next on the list and that they would be there within the week. Ok-not what I wanted to hear, but ok. Last week came and went- no gutters. Last Thursday, someone even called me and said the installers would be there the next day, Friday. "Great, I'm excited!" I got home from work on Friday. . . No gutters. I called, and the same woman said they were on another job, and would be coming my way next, but she wanted to check in with the guys to see when. When she got back to me she said the guys weren't going to try to get to me today- I guess they wanted an early Friday. But I would be first on Monday. Really bummed, and pretty pissed, I soldiered on waiting for Monday. A pattern develops- I got home from work on Monday- NO GUTTERS! I called, they were closed. Now I'm angry, full blown angry. I left a message to call me as soon as possible. When I finally heard back this morning all I got was a simple- sorry, I forgot to schedule the guys to go there yesterday, but you'll be first tomorrow. Tomorrow?? Why not today?? Rain, I'm told. It's not raining, nor has it been raining. She said that they were trying to catch up from the weekend rain. Weekend??? I thought I was next on the list??? Anyway- I'm sure the rest of the money will be taken out of my account promptly after they eventually get gutters on the house, if that ever happens. Long story short; don't waste your time with Sela-go someplace, anyplace else. Unless you enjoy being jacked around, and lied to like you're stupid. read more

My husband and I hired SELA Gutter Connection to replace the gutters in our home and ended up having a negative experience. We went with them because they were able to complete the job quickly and for what we thought was a good price. While replacing our gutters, we found out that the estimate did not include the gutter guards, which we had intended on including. Obviously there was a misunderstanding in what we wanted done and the specifics were not confirmed by either party. Secondly, during the installation due to spatial constraints, they cut off and pushed a LIVE electrical wire into our attic (we thought the wire was dead, but they never checked and didn't have the electrical expertise or equipment to adequately diagnose or treat the resulting problems.) Thankfully, there was no fire and the only result was the loss of electricity to a portion of our house. We were then told "it's something that you need to fix" and they were not able to send out an electrician, but only recommended one that we could call. So, after 3 weeks of us scheduling the electrician (who was great to work with), an extra $300 out of our pocket, and about 10 phone calls, it was fixed. SELA did give us a $75 credit on our final bill. The final product looks great, even without the gutter guards, but poor customer service and a lack of accountability meant that the entire process cost us more time and money than it was worth. This is not the last house we will own in our lifetime, but we will not hire them again if we need gutters on our next place. read more

Dave Lesnar (General Manager) visited my property on the 1st of July 2017 and I was never given my quote. I called 3 times over the past 60+ days and left several messages. I was finally told, after wasting hours of my time on the phone and at my property in Minneapolis, that they "were not going to get to my project this year." I wish I was told that the first time I called, or I wish Dave never wasted my time meeting me at my property. I also had to basically beg for an apology from their phone receptionist for their ineptitude in business management. Sela, don't meet someone on July 1st and then tell them 60+ days later that you no longer can do the job AT ALL during 2017. read more

Sela recently reroofed my old duplex in StPaul. Their initial bid was the best of three bids received. Unfortunately, once the old shingles were removed it was then determined that the whole roof needed a resheeting before it could be reshingled and still preserve the guarantee. This increased the cost by 66% over the original estimate. The resulting job does look good. There was some damage to the existing porch roof which was used as a path for carrying shingles to the main roof being replaced. The clean up was good. read more

I recently had an excellent experience with Sela Gutter. Earlier this spring the ladder slipped out from under me while I was cleaning out my gutters. Thankfully I wasn't hurt. I called Sela Gutter the next day and in less than 24 hours I had a custom inspection and quote waiting for me. Decided to install the LeafX clog free gutter system and I have been thoroughly impressed. The system has handled heavy rains with ease and no clogs yet. It has a full warranty. Throughout the process I was very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of everyone at Sela. Albert was very responsive and answered all of my questions in a timely manner. Their workmanship is top notch and I expect this system to last a lifetime...best thing is I no longer have to get on a ladder to clean my gutters!
