Your estimator, Calvin Black, was AWFUL! He treated me terribly and bad-mouthed us for requesting an estimate!!! Even though his card clearly stated "free estimates" he said he was "doing us a favor" and that they normally charge for estimates. IN FRONT OF ME, he even said that we were just wasting HIS time - HOW RUDE!!! WHY would you put FREE ESTIMATES on your card if you are going to chew the client out because they asked for an estimate? They were recommended to us because they are part of a trusted networking group but CLEARLY they do not care about their clients or potential clients. I wanted to give a review to Selah Roofing and in particular Carlos Chavarin who provided the estimate/assessment of my roof. Although we did not go with Selah Roofing (due to other circumstances) I have nothing but great things to say about Carlos. Please request Carlos when doing your roof because he is diligent, experienced, and well spoken. Carlos showed up a hour early and waited 30 minutes before knocking on the door. He explained everything well and I did not tell him but I already had two other roofers come prior. Carlos knew the same issues that the other roofers pointed out and I already knew the condition of the roof as well. His assessments are honest and he puts trust above all else. I would have no problem referring anyone else to Selah Roofing and having them work with Carlos. The prices were competitive and they do use Owens Corning as well. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I had a couple of loose tiles and I was worried that it would start raining soon. With the tiles being loose and rain on its way, I was afraid the rain was going to leak through and cause water damage on my ceiling. We chose Selah roofing after a recommendation from a local contractor here in Redondo Beach. Their estimate was very competitive so alongside the rec, we chose Selah over several other options. During the demo of our old tar roof and the removal of the old plywood, one of the workers stepped through the Sheetrock in our ceiling causing a large hole. There was further damage to the inside ceiling Sheetrock in our bedroom, kitchen, and dining room. The work to patch the hole and damage was incredibly sloppy. After a month, Selah sent a worker out to address the sloppy work. It was the same worker who did the sloppy job a month earlier. Though less sloppy than the original work, the patch work is still very visible. Now, after the rains this past weekend, we are seeing water spots next to our skylight meaning the did not properly seal the new roof around the skylight. Finally, the energy efficient white roof we put on has been shedding white pellets. We reach out to Selah in early November about this and still have yet to receive a response. read more

I hired Selah to repair/replace some water damaged wood under the tile roof. They did the repair, replaced missing or broken tiles and replaced some material around the fireplace. (THERE WAS NO DAMAGE AROUIND THE FIRE PLACE). Approximartely 15 months later we have rainstormed! My roof is leaking. I called Selah, explained the problem and asked if they could come out and look at it, I was told they would call me back.. Finally I called them and was told that the work they did was to fix a leak in my fireplace and was not covered by them. When I told them that there had not been any rain for water to leak in the chimney, they were firm that they had not worked on my roof, just the chimney. Finally he said he would stop by on Monday to "take a look". Never called or showed up on Monday. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. The orginal salesman that first went to my home was kind and effective at selling. I ended up really disliking him by the end of the entire ordeal because he repeatedly refused to communicate with me. After I signed the contract to do my entire roof of my home, I was told it would take a few days. The job ended up taking nearly two weeks. They wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars extra for new wood they supposedly installed. Good thing I went up to the roof to take photos of the very little new wood they installed. Management also told me they wouldn't install the gutters which I had paid and signed on the contract. After hounding management, they realized their mistakes. My father spoke with the day laborers one day and he found out they were NOT licensed roofers, which is something this company prides itself on being - a licensed roof company. I had issue after issue with LACK OF COMMUNICATION and MISINFORMATION with this company. The experience left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Overall, the day laborers did a fine job, but the company itself is very unorganized and that's what caused me the most stressed. As a full time educator, I shouldn't have to be hounding a company and holding them accountable to this degree. read more

Cons: - Representative showed up over 45 mins late to appointment, and didn't bother to give me a courtesy call. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but I don't live at the property and it's not close to my current residence. I had to reach out to Selah to find out if they were still coming or not. - I asked the representative for proposal via email or text and would make decision based on services offered and cost. He never sent it but a week later asked if I was interested in another demonstration? That didn't make sense... -The rep called and text messaged me after 10pm on a Sunday of all days.... I mean why would he think calling me that late is ok? I found this to be very unprofessional because even telemarketers don't call after 9pm. Overall: I can't say much about their craftsmanship because I didn't hire them but this company gave me zero confidence in their abilities. If they weren't able to do simple things like show up on time, provide proposal, and contact during regular business hours. UPDATE 9/20/18 The Owner Calvin was very nice and reached out to us, making every attempt to make the wrongs right which was greatly appreciated. They fixed whatever could be fixed and also compensated us for any damages that occurred. We have 4 buildings and 13 units total. Our patios are also enclosed with no access from the outside. I know this can make it a challenging job site for them. The communication with our HOA/Tenants/Roofing company was non-existent which led to some of these problems. ORIGINAL Review Our condo HOA decided to re-roof all of our units (13 units altogether) and they hired this company to do the work. Did they do a good job? Probably, but I am not a roofer so I don't know. Was the job finished in a decent amount of time? I think so. Here's the bad part. 1) They work from 7am to about 4pm. Pretty much right at 7am they have their big trash trucks blocking our driveway making it hard for some to leave for work. Not real bad, but they nor our HOA let us know this was going to happen. 2) The workers are supposed to cleanup everyday after they are done. There was trash absolutely everywhere. Not only from the roofing materials, but drink bottles and food wrappers. They do use a leaf blower around the perimeter, but leave these bottles and wrappers behind. They are in obvious plain sight so I know it wasn't accidentally missed. This could easily not be an issue if they would bring a trash bag on the roof with them. 3) They left our satellite dish hanging from the roof blocking our front door. (They do not put it back after they are done and DirecTv charges $100 to reinstall it.) 4) All of our units have fenced in patios and little gardens. They absolutely demolished our garden. Broken branches everywhere and trash/nails everywhere. On our patio area I picked up nearly 50 nails, wood chips, big pieces of old roofing. 1 of the 5 days they worked on our unit, they put nets over our plants and a tarp over the patio area. Why didn't they do this everyday? On one of the days they failed to put the tarp up, I stretched out my sun shade over the fence to stop all the mess from getting in our patio area. For the most part stopped all the debris from getting onto my patio, but at the end of the day they just left it on top of my sun shade which nearly broke. I knocked it all off onto the walkway and they didn't even clean it up for 2 days. 5) This one really gets me mad. July 5th my Wife called them in the morning asking if they were going to work that day. They did not work on July 2nd or 3rd (Monday and Tuesday) so we wanted to verify. They said they were ONLY going to drop off materials on the roof so they can work the following day. The crane came that afternoon and started putting supplies on the roof. Then all of a sudden, I start seeing all kinds of trash and debris falling into my patio and directly into my koi pond. I did not have it covered since they said they were NOT going to be working that day. I cleaned it out as best as I could, but in 2 days they all died. 6) After the job was completed, they left a pile of trash. This is just my experience with this company. read more

UPDATE: I finally received the photo of the corrected work on 7/26. Would I recommend them for a concrete tile roof repair? No. Would I use them again? Maybe. I know they can do the work correctly, but I shouldn't have to micromanage that and beg for photos. Next time, I would ensure that I can be home for the entire process and wait for photos to have a thorough look before I pay for the job. I asked the first time, but he said the office would send them and only flashed a photo quickly on his own phone, so I just noticed the valley repair/spacing and didn't notice the messed up tile. So... don't pay for work until you have proof it was done correctly. People have zero incentive to make it right once they have your money. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Very communicative until you pay them, then they ghost you. We had a roof repair on a small section of our concrete tile roof done on 5/11. When I received the pictures of the completed work on 5/19 I noticed one of the tiles wasn't properly aligned/locked into the one next to it (hello, leaks!). So I sent numerous emails asking them to come back and fix it. Nothing. Finally called them on 6/10. They communicated great, scheduled the re-repair for 6/13 and showed up. I had an appt so I had to leave but asked to be emailed a photo. Nothing. Emailed requesting an updated photo on 6/21. Haven't heard a thing. It's been nearly 2 months from the original repair, and I still don't know if my roof is fixed properly. Bait and switch?? We've been having rat problems in our attic. Terminix mentioned some broken roof shingles. We spent a lot when we bought our home replacing the electrical, ductwork, insulation so i wanted to fix it ASAP. I requested estimates in December on Yelp and Selah reached out to me right away. Carlos came out quickly and inspected the attic and roof. He said 67 broken tiles would need to be replaced. showed me pix he took of some broken tiles. He mentioned a few more might need replacing during project & if I got my deposit in quickly he could squeeze me in the next week or so being only a 1-2 day job. He really impressed me with his inspection and his binder to show the jobs he's done and all their great reviews. I called my husband (working out of town) and we decided to go ahead with this roofer since he could fit us in quickly. I mentioned to Carlos that the estimate was higher than hoped but we decided to go forward anyway. I called a couple of days later and did the deposit over the phone so i could get scheduled ASAP. Suddenly instead of squeezing me in quickly they said because of the rain they had to push jobs back and they had to schedule me for February 4 (which got pushed back again) I was bummed because they knew I was having rodent problems and had even told me it was a fire hazard. I texted Carlos and asked if there was ANY possible way to get scheduled sooner, hubby wanted to try a different roofer who could squeeze us in but NO RESPONSE. As soon as I signed the contract I was stuck and just had to be patient. Finally they start our roof. The roofer calls his boss Paul and has him tell me they had to pull down an additional EIGHTY tiles. I asked Paul how much extra it would be and he said they'd send me a new estimate. I NEVER received a new estimate. They finished the job and left. No more communication again. Angela called me a few days after the job was done demanding payment. I understand that payment is due on completion but like I said they didn't ask me for $ when they did the work. No photos showing me the work is even done properly. Even though they had no problem taking photos of broken tiles. How does 67 tiles turn into an additional 80 tiles once the job starts and I'm stuck agreeing to it or keep a roof with missing tiles and probably still have to pay the contracted amount for unfinished work? My husband thinks and I'm starting to wonder also that this could be a bait and switch tactic. Did the inspector miss 80 tiles ? Or did they just stomp and break them when they were working ? when Angela called wanting to come pick up payment $ I was chaperoning my son's school trip had horrible cell service and out of town for 3 days. I made an effort to communicate with them and texted Angela to let her know i was not around and to please contact my husband (who is working in vegas ) and gave her his number. She sent him the invoice (FINALLY) and just expects us to pay IMMEDIATELY double what the original agreement was when given such short notice. I explained we didn't plan on it being so high. And we had an unexpected COVID spread through our family and hospitalization of my father in law, his death and funeral. I told her all this and said it may take a little longer since it's much higher and my husband has been running two business on top of just losing his dad to COVID. She said she understood then the next day is asking why we haven't paid and is threatening to put a LIEN on our house!! She said it's due on completion and it's been a few days already. It's not like i was asking for extra months, just a few days to get back into town or hubby to have a freaking spare moment. He doesn't even have time to call and talk to his own family. I asked her if she could be a little bit patient just like I had to be patient for almost TWO months for them to actually do our project. But apparently not. I am very sad because Carlos really sold me on their company. I don't even know how the roof job even went. No one told me what exactly they did. No after pictures. I only knew they even finished because they finally hauled away the pile of tiles they left on my lawn for two days. I am leaving this review because when I looked at reviews it seems all the good ones are from people who received an estimate. And My estimate ended up needing more than double than what i was quoted replaced. I do remember the estimator saying a they would give a discount for giving a review. So I have a feeling all those positive reviews are for the discount. I will update my review once I can get an actual idea if the job was done well or not. I really hope it was done well. I plan on having a friend who is a roofer come look and share our experience with him for his opinion. I would have had him do the job but Carlos made it seem like such a quick and easy job I didn't want my friend to drive up from San Diego for such little work. Lesson learned. read more

Save yourself time, money and go elsewhere. Had them come in to diagnose my leaky back door flat roof and they recommended to replace a new one because it wasn't done correctly. I went with their recommendation and had it replaced on 12/18/19. While they were working on the flat roof, I told them to take a look at my main front door because I noticed a leak there too and let me know. The following day they told me that it would cost me $1200 to repair which I thought it was for the main front door leak that I was waiting for the update and I decided not to move forward with the 2nd contact/quote since no guarantee on leaks, it could wait. The following week just as soon as the rain came, water started running down from the ceiling at exact same spot plus the room next to it. I called them the next day about the leak if they come and fix it. They refused and said it wasn't their fault because I didn't move forward with their 2nd quote?? I wasn't informed that the 2nd quote was for the flat roof, or related to the flat roof. Now they said it was the cause of the leak of the back door flat roof. If you're a professional roofer, you wouldn't just replace a new roof when you knew it wouldn't stop the leaking problem and I hired you because of my leaky roof. A total nightmare dealing with this roofer. A small roof leak that could have been easily repaired by any half-decent handyman was turned into major damage to my roof by this incompetent roofer and then he vanished and didn't return my calls. I called Selah Roofing to have a small leak on my roof patched. Paul Paredes, the owner, showed up and spent no more than 15 minutes on the roof and charged me $400. After the next rain, the roof continued to leak. I called Paul and he sent two of his employees to place a tarp on the roof until he found time to come back for repair. While laying the tarp on the roof his workers walked all over the roof carelessly and broke 30 roof tiles. Paul, himself, admitted the damage caused by his workers after he stopped by to inspect the roof. But then I never heard from him again and he ignored all my calls and texts. He left me with the original roof leak and thousands of dollars damage to my roof caused by his incompetent workers. I have already filed a complaint with the State Contractors Licensing Board, and legal action is soon to follow. Save yourself time and money and stay away from this so called "Roofer". read more

I needed an inspection next day and had sent out inquiries to several companies. A lot of them came back with "sorry, we can't..." or "we only have availability at the end of the month" but Selah Roofing was one of the first companies to respond and squeezed me into their already busy schedule.
