We initially had a positive experience when purchasing a puppy, as the staff appeared helpful. However, I strongly advise everyone to carefully review the return policy before making a purchase. After bringing the puppy home, it began biting, and the situation escalated to the point where my wife required emergency medical attention. When we informed the store, they dismissed our concerns, stating it was just teething. This made us uncomfortable and concerned for our safety, so we decided to return the puppy. At the time of purchase, we were told there was a 7-day return policy with a full refund. However, when we attempted to return the puppy within 24 hours, they only refunded 60% and insisted that the remaining 50% must be handled in cash within 24 hours. They refused to accept any other payment method, which raised serious concerns about transparency. The entire return process felt misleading and unfair. The store manager was extremely uncooperative and rigid, and they did not allow us to record conversations or maintain any documentation, which made the experience even more frustrating. Overall, this was a very disappointing and stressful experience. I would strongly caution others to avoid purchasing from this place. Received a puppy as a gift from there within two days had to take her to the vet with a respiratory infection and before the two weeks where the puppy has to be examined on a wellness check tested positive for Giardia. Since then I have been back to the vet and puppy has had 2 treatments for the parasites and is still testing positive! These tests are not cheap they are $75 to check the poop, vet fee plus medicine! They should pay for all of this because they should sell puppy's that are healthy and treat them before they leave with their new family! Although the store is clean & friendly they do not let you pick up the puppy that you're considering purchasing. They won't give you a price unless you commit to purchasing a pet. I didn't get the feeling that they were fully upfront about the puppies and certainly not pricing. I think there are other places more open if you can't find a rescue. read more

WARNING!!! Do NOT purchase a puppy from Select A Puppy or any pet store! My youngest sister and her family had an absolutely horrible and traumatizing experience with Select A Puppy. First, the puppy was outrageously expensive, comparable to the cost of a designer bag. The store assured her that the puppy was health-tested and came from a reputable breeder, but this was completely false. Within two days of bringing the puppy home, she noticed its legs were popping in and out of place. Concerned, she took him to the vet, who diagnosed the puppy with: 1. A parasite that could be transmitted to humans. 2. Patellar luxation, a genetic disorder where the kneecap pops out of place. The vet informed her that the puppy would likely need surgery costing $6,000, and even then, the procedure wouldn't guarantee a permanent fix. My sister immediately contacted Select A Puppy, hoping to return the puppy and receive a refund. She was told she needed a formal letter from the vet declaring the puppy "unfit for purchase." While the manager, Jennifer, initially seemed empathetic, this quickly changed. The hurdles they put my sister through were ridiculous: * The original vet stated the puppy was unfit for purchase but couldn't provide the specific "formal letter" Select A Puppy demanded. * She was told she'd need to pay another $300 for a consultation with a surgeon just to get the letter. * After visiting multiple vets, a local vet near the store finally provided the required formal documentation. All the one star reviews are accurate. The puppy price is not given until you fill out the paper work and then it will be $6500 plus. I think the crazy price is to cover all the vet bills that will come with your new puppy. I went to the free vet that was offered and got a Not Fit for Sale letter. You must ask for this letter. Under NJ law, you can be given one within the first 14 days of purchase if you puppy has a couch or parasites or any other condition. It will, so be proactive and get the letter. Then you have to turn the letter in with the vet bills to get reimbursed. You will have to fill out a form that asks if you want to return the puppy, get reimbursed to cure the puppy, or get a new puppy. I chose to cure because the puppy is very cute and the type of breed I wanted. I'm still waiting for the reimbursement. The staff is friendly and will call to check on your puppy. I also did research on the breeder, which you can't do until you purchase the puppy, but the breeder has multiple counts of puppy mill charges. There is a store on the other side of the highway with fewer puppies, but also lower costs and healthier. read more

Not even 4 days later was he sick again with vomit and diarrhea. Our 2 years old Bichon was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and was given 4 weeks to live. Imagine the devastation hearing that at such a young age. The cost of chemotherapy so far has cost us $16,000 and she's not even done with chemo treatments. A pet store that is like a car dealer. I won't repeat what every other 1 and 2 star reviews are saying. They won't tell you prices until you're in the little rooms with a puppy. The puppies are WILD because they are kept in tiny cages and handled by who knows how many people. After we were ready to walk with finding out the price (two different types of puppies were both $6400 - suspicious!!), we did end up buying a mixed breed. Still a LOT more $$ than if we had gone to a breeder, but we listened to the "no puppy mill" promise and here we are. Puppy is healthy save for 2 parasites. Their "vet" just kept randomly giving the puppy antibiotics for a month without any evidence of retesting, so i refused to go there even if it was a "free" visit. Our vet says their "vet" doesn't know what he's doing, and didn't utilize medication appropriately. In order for the store's insurance company to reimburse for the parasites, our vet has to provide documentation that the puppy should never have been sold in the first place due to NJ law. I refused to ask my vet to do that and so we didn't get reimbursed. I can't stress this enough - they absolutely know they are selling puppies that (at the minimum) have parasites and you have to jump through hoops to get them to reimburse you. If you think you can simply provide your documentation for tests and treatment, you'd be very wrong. PLEASE Keep in mind that you CANNOT return the puppy for any reason UNLESS it has some kind of hereditary problem like a heart defect or hip dysplasia. If you get home and the puppy doesn't fit with your family? You're out of luck. And feel free to buy the optional extended warranty (as if it's a car and not a living being) that gives you more time to find health issues and get reimbursement. It's genuinely disgusting. We needed a particular kind of puppy and we have one. I have regrets about things, but even puppy mill puppies need homes and I know the argument that they continue to have puppy mills because people like me buy their puppies but here we are. DO NOT buy the "puppy kit" of cage and toys. It's WILDLY overpriced. And NO puppy on the planet needs expensive vitamins and supplements if they are eating quality kibble. Our puppy was allergic to the kibble they were giving it so... that was a problem. Keep in mind you're going to be paying far too much for the convenience of a mixed breed puppy from a puppy mill in another state with shady credentials if you can even find the named "breeder". I wonder at the type of people who work at a place like this. And I also know exactly why they demand people do google reviews before they leave the store so they don't leave bad reviews later. I told them I could not afford to spend even $2k on a Cockapoo. They told me that they had many pups in my price range to choose from. When I entered their store, there were NO PRICES on any cage. They claim that the puppies just came in and they didn't have a chance to price them. You have to fill out an Application to get the price of the puppy you want to purchase. Long read but if you want the truth don't skip: Without a doubt shady business behavior. Sick puppies, sleazy business tactics, and just overall bad people. We got our puppy Otis, a Boston terrier, back in august and while he is a healthy dog now, they sold him to us sick. He fought for his life in the animal hospital for 3 days after we got him due to him having kennel cough/pneumonia. He was hooked up to ivs and could not breathe himself. This was 4 days after we got him. Now that he is ok We are very lucky and happy to have him, but not happy with the business we did with this store. Otis was just under $7000 total. We tried to negotiate the price down slightly in an effort to pay fully in cash, but unfortunately we had to deal with "Matty," who would not budge on the price. He even brought the puppy out and held him in front of us when we asked to negotiate, explaining to us that he can't bring the price down for Otis, but that he has some others in the back that he "would be willing to go down in price on." Incredibly shady. All while holding the dog we wanted in front of us. He played on our emotions and we were left with no choice but to do the payment plan , which has an incredibly high interest rate that they try to leave out when talking about it as an option. I'm very upset to see that some people on here were able to negotiate the price because we paid full price for a puppy who was sick from the minute we brought him out of the store. We brought him back in 5 minutes after purchasing him because we noticed mucus coming out of his nose (was the start of his life-threatening pneumonia case), and they brought us into a room where they tried to convince us to let him stay at the shop in case he is sick to get better. They knew that he was sick. And they still didn't budge on our price. I wonder how many other puppies that were in the store at that time had the same sickness as Otis , and didn't receive the proper care. God knows what they did with them. The shadiness of this place is ridiculous. 9 years ago my parents brought a puppy from the same place (it was under a different name at the time, they claim to have "no affiliation" with the previous owners but if you do some simple research it's easy to see the truth). Anyway this puppy, Casey, died from parvovirus 5 days after my parents got her. Had I known that this was the same place, I would not have stepped foot in this place. At the end of the day, I am happy that my Otis is good and is not fighting for his life anymore. However, I highly urge others to be careful and do not do business with these people. All the care about is getting your money and not the poor puppies. P.S. the puppies they say come from "registered breeders" are also shady as they all have P.O. Boxes, not addresses. This screams puppy mills. There is so much research to be done about this place before you think about getting a dog from here. My mother went through it 9 years ago and uncovered so much. As it grew, she realized that it was indeed not a Yorkie (as a Yorkie's ears stand up and this pups ears flopped.) So, the vet confirmed it was a Morkie, half Yorkie and half Maltese. So that was the first issue. The most important one is the payment plan that was set up. After my daughter was making payments twice a month for six months, I asked to see her paperwork. They had financed this $2500 pup at a 189% interest rate and the final cost would have been over $12,000!!!! I got a puppy and was told she was a pure breed poodle, first mistake. She is not, definitely mixed with something else and on the contract they get away with it as it says "LIKENESS". Took her to my own vet two days later and told she had not one but TWO parasites. Got meds and thankfully she got better. She received all her shots but realized early on, she was a little crazy. Couldn't even train her properly as she was out of control and I have had 5 other poodles in my life that were never like this. Couldn't even get her groomed without vet prescribing me medication to calm her down. Told them about it and trainer wanted me to use a "choke" collar on a 3lb dog! Ridiculous. I finally gave up because after 20 phone calls, and their attitude that I AM THE PROBLEM, I don't know how to train a dog, insulted me and told me I need to calm down. The WORST place and I am so sorry I didn't do more research. I paid WAY too much for the dog, especially that she is not a pure breed and they "negotiate" a price and then they add all types of fees over $600 more. I never bought any of my dogs from a pet store, and this is the reason why. All my past poodles came from breeders, and I never had issues with health or behavior at all. They post pictures online and when you call they don't have that particular dog anymore even if you show up same day. Worse than any used car dealership could ever be. My last comment is they make it seem like the have such legit papers, you would think the American Kennel Club. All my other dogs have papers from. We weren't looking for a show dog- just something in the ballpark of what was advertised. The dogs seem to be clean and well fed, so I won't put them down for that. However the experience is like buying a car- they won't tell you the price and they have to go in the back and discuss 6 times before selling. I purchased a puppy on 3/ 2/22 in 2 days noticed my puppy was sneezing, coughing, not eating much at all, lethargic- I called the (New Name to this business now) - "Select A Puppy ," I was first skeptical at walk in, & explained I Bought a Maltese puppy in 2006 at this same business, same routine, it was called , "Dog Breeders of America." The "Dog Breeders of America," paid did pay in full for the 1st sick vet visit, & medicine, the diagnosis of Kennel Cough in 2006. However 15 yrs of his life I dealt w/ his vet bills &medicine monthly , he had a long term chronic cough , possibly from a long term of kennel bronchitis cough. I did explain this to this prior to 1st puppy brought to the small room, the sales woman -Jennifer advised me this business Not under the same ownership since 2018, she worked at the same business in 2006, said the business is a new name, new ownership past year, told me her name & she was the "Manager," Jennifer." 2 days later- 3/4/22 called "Select A Puppy," spoke to Jennifer - the manager & cried l, asked to return the puppy, I could not watch another dog become long term sick or die. She advised me to go to the Vet on the back of the 1st paper, has 5 different Vets- not one was able to give an appt due to possibly contagious. (ALSO THOSE recommended Vets- charge $69.95 for the 1st visit within purchase within 30 days- NOT FREE-if "Sick visit," the vet charges full price.Red Bank Vet was the only appt I could get asap -3/5/22 (3rd day since purchase) - called Select A puppy on 3/7/22- was advised to send email & Vet documents & invoice by email to teamsolutions.pet - 24-48hrs to receive a response or decline the reimbursement- when ALL the paperwork was submitted by Vanessa from teamsolutions - she reached out to me 2 days later & said the manager advised me needed Diagnosis (not a vet's notes) on letter head, w/ treatment given & vet tech signature (also the reason not able to submit paperwork not proper age (weeks )of puppy on paperwork . Called & spoke to the vet , asked for the typed out Letter ahead , date, diagnosis & treatment w/ her signature, she expressed she never had this type of problem or request & seems like this seems like a stall for my reimbursement. My puppy was diagnosed & treated for "Kennel Cough & parasites in fecal ." On the 3rd day. After finding results I called & asked to return the puppy or pay for full "sick visit, medicine & next visit paid lab test on fecal & check for kennel cough again," just to make sure they wanted me to have a healthy puppy, whatever else would be my expense. Jennifer, agreed & said she would called Middletown Animal HSPTL - arrange for the next appointment in 2wks after medicine is complete. Few days later, I called Middletown Animal hospital, they DID NOT receive a call from Select A puppy. I waited 4-5 days & email said all documents were submitted & check for reimbursement will be sent by mail by 30 days. Called twice in the month of waiting for the reimbursement,was told should receive any day was sent out 3/22/22. 2 wks later I called teamsolutions again & was told was not able to send to address, returned on 3/22/22, the kind man said it's sent out. On 3/25/22 (past 30 days!) I recieved a check for ONLY $145.00 for the "Kennel Cough only," the Guardia positive results- $ 240.40 was declined due to not proper diagnosis.. (I would like my Full reimbursement & paid follow up visit) I sent invoices, diagnosis, the vet notes - as requested the typed, letterhead from Veterinary , Proper weeks of puppy's age, date, diagnosis, & treatment for puppy- was sent & submitted. I was given a Run around, lied too, & it's similar to complaints & reviews to stories as other owners in 2018 . I was told by several people, this is the same owner only Changed business name,due to complaints & lawsuits. My puppy is now w/ me for 6wks, he has thrown up few days & diarrhea -loose bowl, he has an appt in 2 days. All I wanted was a healthy puppy or help from this business to make sure the puppy has a follow up (paid by select a puppy as agreed for LAB-fecal test again, medicines-if needed & check the puppy to see signs of kennel cough/ only the areas Puppy was Sick from ) I Do not suggest anyone to buy a puppy from this business! Go to a Breeder or do extensive research. I also suggest if you have experienced any problems w/ a puppy from here- please look up the complaints on Online "Dog Breeders of America." Closed in 2018- the reviews are bad, many have posted Same problems my puppy had & is having. Horrible! Horrible reviews! If any similar problems, my opinion, reach out to Better business bureau !!!! I am terrified my dog has internal liver or intestinal infection or problems & die, I seen similar posts from old STORE NAME, it is sad the owner did not reimburse or help to make sure others have a healthy puppy going to a new home! I have never written a negative review for any business ever. I am still upset about my experience and felt compelled to share my experience in case it saves others from making the mistake I did. So, I stumbled upon their website and saw tons of the cutest puppies and dogs I have ever seen. I called the store and asked about one breed in particular. The girl on the phone would not give me any specifics of the dog at all. Would not tell me if she had that particular dog. She just kept saying they have many many dogs and that I just had to come in. She would not give prices or price ranges either which I felt was shady but none the less I made the hour trip, not knowing what kind of place I would find. To my surprise, this place was a storefront jail for puppies. While the breed I was searching for had 20 or more on the website, there were only 2 of that breed in the store. I asked about how up to date the website is and she said they update it every week. When I noted that most of the dogs on the website are not in the store, I pressed her for an answer and finally she admitted that they don't take the pups off the website once they are sold. I told her this was really misleading. I then asked about the price. She came out with paperwork for me to fill out. I explained that I just wanted to understand the price range before I commit to buying a puppy and completing paperwork. She said that each pup was priced differently. I asked for a price of 1 specific puppy. She went into excuse after excuse that she had to scan the chip to get the price. I have been in pet stores before and the prices are usually displayed......not sure what the secret was but after reading the other reviews I now see I am not the only one who has felt that this place is shady and unethical. I wish I read the reviews before wasting 2 hours. Not only am I upset and angry, I can't shake the sad feeling I have of those puppies in jail in that store. Terrible and really upsetting experience. If this is the feeling I got within the first 10 minutes of being in the store, it is even more upsetting thinking about what happens behind the scenes with these sweet puppies. read more

all lies i called two three days ago and i was told there puppies starting at 599 and there was alot of puppies. I drove 106 miles to this please to see they were empty just one dog. When I asked if there was another puppie store near by i was told no to google and find one up the road. Then when i was walking out a ladie followed me trying to distract me to tell me they will be full tomorrow and do u really think im coming back. They sell u story after story so u get there. Please do not buy a puppy here these owners are heartless scavengers who prey on innocent people -who want to open their home to a pet- they have recently open under a new name to avoid their prior shutdown from NJ state auditors- just Google it- but also note there are many reviews that appear to be "Fake" they have a ridiculous set up and prey upon innocent potential buyers- i am making it my mission to expose this unethical business ! Jennifer appears to target customers who have good credit and they have unethical ways to sign u up for personal loans that cost thousands extra I'm saying that a puppy that normally goes for $2000 tops -they changed $6000 plus terms of loan if she stuck with payments would equal $10k People- who would pay $10 k for a damaged Puppy Mill puppy- this dog was confirmed unfit for sale by a local vet - Jennifer refused to take back - no wonder the state of NY won't allow puppies for sale- I will be contacting Governor Murphy- who I have a personal connection through close friends to stop this business and insanity. I tried calling them several times. They will not even tell you a price range of the dogs. They should at least let me know the range so I can know if I want to come in or not. I drove an hour and 15 minutes to the store. I saw the dog and held it and liked the puppy. They could not tell me how big the dog would get or how much it cost. How am I supposed to buy a dog or anything without knowing the price. They were supposed to get back to me about the price of the dog and never did. I called the store two days later and they gave me a range of how big dogs of the breed will get, but I was inquiring about a specific dog. I also asked how much the dog costs and she told me I had to come in to the store to get a price. I told her I was already there and she said I had to come back, I told her that I was there already and they were supposed to look up the price and get back to me. She then told me that she just checked and the dog was already sold. I called back a few minutes later and had the same sales pitch and told her I was asking about that specific dog and she told me that the dog was there, but someone was looking at it. Nothing worse than lying to a customer. Now I do not trust them at all. She also told me that they sell 30 to 50 puppies a week. I did not even think there were 30 puppies let alone 50 in the store. read more
