There is no mention of the return policy upon purchase and it explicitly does not allow credit if the denim is soaked - a prerequisite advised by the staff!!!! Staff does not return phone calls or answer the phone. The owner refuses to provide credit. For such expensive denim, save yourself the hassle and headache - go somewhere else! read more

Things started off on an awkward note when the clerk made a snide remark about the quality/ condition of the jeans I brought in for repair. This was a $595 pair of jeans. Repairs ended up taking 20 days instead of the originally quoted 7-10 days, no apology or explanation was offered during the delay period. I visited the store in person and called the shop multiple times to check on the status of the work, and yet Self Edge was incapable of providing an even remotely accurate update. Vague responses such as "We'll call you soon when the jeans are ready" were plentiful. I finally contacted the company's founder who put me in touch with a store clerk. The store clerk accused me of lying about the delays, claiming that Self Edge never provided me with an upfront guarantee of the repair work taking 7-10 days. I am an honest individual and to have my integrity attacked like this was truly uncomfortable. Customer service as poor as that which I experienced at Self Edge is pretty rare. My advice- take your jeans in to Denim therapy or Denim Surgeon. read more

You're purchasing a lifestyle, not just a product at Self Edge. I sold all my jeans and bought one pair of Flat Head F380s. After two years of wear, I haven't had one regret regarding this decision. In fact, my F380s are better looking and feeing more comfortable than any pre-washed jeans on the market. This is how jeans are meant to be bought and worn. Great selection of jeans but the service wasn't too great. I asked for a specific size of jeans & the man working there bought me a smaller size without consulting me about it. They didn't fit to his surprise. I ended up buying a pair of jeans & left them to be hemmed. They weren't ready until a week after the date they told me to pick them up. Probably going to go somewhere else next time I'm going to invest in expensive jeans. read more

I have been coming here for years, as Self Edge is one of the only places that stocks women's raw denim. I was a fan of the 3sixteen women's models, purchasing 3 pairs over 5 years and regularly used the in-house repair service to maintain them. However, the last few times I have come in, the service was getting snobby. I bought my first pair of raw denim from Andrew himself but I have been mostly ignored when I come in now. I don't know why that is but it *feels* a lot like sexist crap. I have decided never to return or to buy 3sixteen again after my last experience: I dropped off 2 pairs of jeans for repair the first week of September and was told there was a backup in repairs; it would be up to 6 weeks. I balked but I like the work they do, so I paid $70 up front for the repairs (an increase from when repairs on in-house purchases were $15 and others were $30; I had brought in one of each). After 6 weeks and no contact, I called and was told the repair machine had been down and the seamstress had been sick so things were taking a bit more time. I couldn't get any indication of when they would be finished, and no one had called to say the repairs would be late. I called two weeks later only to be told that my jeans would be ready "sometime in the next month." That's it: no apology, no offer of a discount, not even an offer to ship them to me. For paying $250+ for jeans and $70 for repairs, I'll take my denim addiction elsewhere. read more

It's a very nice looking store, everything set up neatly, and smells pretty new too. Basically has almost everything from the Self Edge website plus special extras for the NYC location. They do hem (free with purchase) and denim repairs through a tailor. Now I can finally try on other denim brands or models that BIG doesn't have. The staff were nice and helpful, letting me chill there waiting for some friends in those seats near the front. With BIG and Self Edge, denim junkies have 2 great places for their denim needs. After APCs, Onis, and Sams - my next pair will probably be some Iron Hearts or Imperials, now that I finally have a place to try them on! read more

A nicely curated selection, with wonderful customer service. Cody was incredibly nice, and bent over backward to try to find something that would fit me. Their women's selection was understandably limited, but what was there was self edge and without any stretch material, which is what I prefer, and which ironically can be hard to find even within raw denim lines. read more

Dude was excited to school me on different styles, weights, fits etc. He didn't try to sell me the most expensive pair in the store either. After purchasing a pair of Strike Gold denim from here on another adventure in NYC. I got home and realized that I wanted these raw jeans hemmed. I called up SE and explained to them the situation and they said send in marked where I wanted them cropped to and they would take care of the rest. I had my SG denim back before the week was over! Customer service is meh, really small boutique. What irked me was the passive aggressiveness the replies from emailing the self edge owner.

I went recently to get some selvedge jeans hemmed that I did not buy from the store and am unimpressed with the work. I did some research online to make sure I went to a place that did good chain-stitching and came across their website. Yes, they did chain-stitch my jeans but it was quite a lazy job with some of the threads already coming out, not to mention the fact that the color of the new thread is completely different than the rest of the pants. Otherwise, the two people I talked to were pretty nice (could have been friendlier) and they had some real quality product obviously. read more

I went in to just browse yesterday . Eric asked if he could help and was knowledgeable and helpful. He quickly helped me find a fit that worked. I ended up buying the Iron Heart 301N jeans. The hemmed then in less than two hours. So far these are my favorite jeans, and the service was great. I brought my partner in today to look. Self edge....oh self edge...the most desired and sought out for denim store on the east coast . With a huge selection of raw denim and an impeccable online store that thousands of people order from . I wonder what that store must be like. So I got the pleasure to take a trip to Manhattan and find out. Hoping to see what's been sparking my interest. I walked in and instantly I couldn't believe how small the store was with limited product. I mean the denim is liked up about 2 or 3 racks and not organized. Also I realized from going in more then once almost half a year apart. That they literally brought nothing new in . It was the same old denim that they had a half a year ago which didn't spark any interest what so ever . Staff is somewhat friendly . Just presentation and shoe, shirts, denim pretty much everything is limited to certain items. Not impressed , nothing to travel for, no return policy. Stick to online don't waste your gas. read more

Awesome selection of high quality clothing. Thomas went above and beyond helping me find the right fit of Iron Heart jeans , gave me a lesson on how they were made and was patient when I called back with questions. We need more specialized shops with people that truly care like this, I would recommend them to anyone looking for clothing that is made the way it used to be, tough as hell and well worth the investment. read more

I gave this place 5 stars, not cause of the clothes (which are flee nahimeans), but these guys know they product you feel me, and customer service is very precious. They know what it is when your crotch blow out and you need that work, but what they do is darning fam... They ain't with that patchy garbage. So if ya clothes got holes, you need to see em bro. Not much of a Yelper...but wanted to post about my experience with Self Edge. I was a little nervous before going here because of some reviews I read. Reason being: A) was having a pair of jeans chain stitch hemmed that I didn't purchase from them and had read they get annoyed by that B) read some negative reviews about the quality of their chain stitch hem C) some of the reviews mention that the service was lacking and the gentlemen working there were stand offish or dismissive. I personally found none of this to be the case. The employees were very friendly and cordial, they had no problem hemming my jeans that I purchased else where, and the quality of the chain stitch hem is fantastic and exactly the length I asked for. Just wanted to offer my 2 cents in case there is anyone who is hesitant like I was. I will definitely use them again. And one day, when I'm not so poor, I will buy some jeans from them! read more
