Having said that, I was very much ready to, plans sent, paid my $99 to get them to look it over, etc. Everyone was very responsive and eager to answer any questions via email within 24-48 hours. Unfortunately we went in a completely different direction and didn't do IKEA cabinets at all (there is another company in Miami we ended up using that is better quality, not too much more expense wise and they do the install as well, a no brainer). We have used SemiHandmade products in our kitchen and office/library and we're very happy with the quality and how easy it is to design and install. The SH is very helpful from start to finish. For our kitchen, we opted for the Walnut fronts to go with the IKEA bases. 5 years later and the quality is still there and our kitchen looks amazing. We recently completed our office/library and used the DIY slab fronts and floating shelves which we painted to give the space a custom built in look. I ordered the godmorgon vanity door fronts for my bathroom remodel. Took about 2.5 weeks for "customization" and delivery. They sent an email inquiring about delivery and I mentioned the fact that there weren't pre drilled holes for the expensive handles I ordered with the fronts and ultimately expressed that I wouldn't use them for my next remodel. I was then sent an email from the company's founder stating he has done over 20,000 jobs and NEVER heard any negative feedback about not providing pre drilled holes, essentially stating I (the customer) am the problem. The cabinet doors looked great for about 4 1/2 years only. Then I noticed some small bubbling and rippling in corners. Slowly it started to spread throughout the face of the doors eventually becoming very noticeable and clearly defective. I currently have 7 defective doors. (I spent just under $5,000 on the cabinet doors). I've been notified by semihandmade that I'm past warranty and I have to purchase new doors in order to remedy the situation. They offered me a 25% discount on new doors with a 5 year warranty. (Their site usually offers a discount so at best I'm being offered 5%-15% off). If they only offer a 5 year warranty and won't repair their product, their company is lousy. So if you want to purchase new cabinet doors every 5 years this is the right company for you. I will be replacing my doors with Ikea and kicking myself eternally for supporting this awful company in the first place. Huge regret. read more

I really love Semihandmade. I used them for my cabinet fronts with my 2019 kitchen reno. I currently need to replace my kitchen counter from some damage and found out that Semihandmade now serves as a middleman for CeasarStone (it didn't at the time of my original renovation). So I made a virtual appt to consult on their offerings, but then got a call from Semihandmade about skipping the virtual appt and just coming into the office -- to view samples and chat next steps. Now, I live in a Brooklyn apartment (which was discussed on my call), and I would think that most people who work in kitchens would have a strong knowledge that Brooklyn apartments are not huge -- and therefore the project size would not be huge. I was never asked the size of CeasarStone that I needed. I came into Manhattan for my appointment, to be told within seconds of showing my plan that I didn't meet the size minimum. That is information that can and should have been asked prior to me coming in, and left my visit to the showroom mainly as a waste of time. read more

My husband is an architect, so when we decided to remodel our kitchen, he was SUPER particular about what he wanted. We knew we wanted an Ikea kitchen as we have created 24 of them in rental units and they have held up well over the past 10 years. We also knew that we wanted doors with a wood finish and did not like any of Ikea's doors. We searched the internet for the best doors we could find and got samples from almost every supplier of Ikea doorfronts we could. We wanted doors that looked and felt like real wood without the weight or potential to warp that real wood has. After comparing several products, we finally found what we wanted with Semihandmade. The ordering process was very easy, and we are happy to say that the doors and the panels for our island turned out even better than we had hoped! The product looks and feels beautiful, and fits perfectly in our rather tight space. My husband really wanted doors that would look like one piece of wood across many doors, but didn't think that that would be possible. Well, let me tell you, we have four doors next to each other whose grain matches BEAUTIFULLY. It was so much better than we ever hoped it would be. We love these doors. I purchased the walnut fronts for the Godmorgon vanity based on the pictures on their website. When I received them they sent me ash fronts instead of walnut but they claim it's walnut. Even though this is not a custom piece they will not let me return them. They suggest getting a sample first but what's the point if the color varies? You could get a sample in one color and the product in another. The fronts I got are ugly and a waste of money. They also have a plastic like veneer that I wasn't expecting. I thought it would actually be wood. So there is no way to sand them down and stain them. To the garbage they go. They were also missing one screw (every other section had one) and they told me to go get it from Ikea. Ikea now makes the Godmorgon in a true walnut so save yourself some money and buy it from the source. read more

Their selection is incredible, especially the Flatsawn Walnut fronts. We're doing a Kitchen next week with their Supermatte Shaker doors. (see Pictures) Blue on the Bottom and white on the top. Maria is our sales rep and always gets back to us in a timely fashion and is super accommodating. I have designed and installed over 12 kitchens using Semihandmade. The first kitchen was back in 2016 using the DIY Slabs. We used the highest grade paint available B. Moore Cabinet paint 2 coats, plus 2 coats primer. These cabinets got another 2 coats of paint in 2020. They looked great until about 2022 when we noticed all the fibers in the MDF started separating and expanding. I thought maybe it might have been an early product defect that they had since fixed, so I reached out to the company and sent in a ton of pictures showing the issue. It was happening in several locations around the kitchen. Their response was that the warranty was for 2 years. They haven't changed anything about the product, and it's exactly the same. I am not sure which is more worrisome, the fact that they don't see this as an issue or the fact that they haven't improved their product in the last 7 years. I now know that they expect these fronts to last for only 2 years and don't stand behind their products. It's basically deposable cabinet fronts. They are affordable, but not priced as disposable. I will be only using other companies going forward, they cost about 10-15% more but the quality is far superior and they stand behind their products. read more

I am building a house that we lost in a fire and I am so glad to find a reasonably priced alternative to custom cabinets for my kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and storage. They have a great selection of door styles that are exactly like the expensive ones and also a nice selection of handles. It was fun to visit the showroom in Monrovia which was very upscale and stylish and our salesman, Vincent, was friendly and helpful. If you have any experience with IKEA purchases, you know that it can be an overwhelming process, given the fact that we were gonna do an entire kitchen wasn't helping, I was very skeptical and to simplify the process wanted to go with IKEA for everything. Great product that drastically cut the cost of our kitchen renovation. We were able to keep the Ikea cabinet bases but update them with Semihandmade fronts. Asthetically, it was a huge improvement. So far, been very impressed with the quality, too. They are easy to clean which is important since we're in a small apartment and we make a mess when we cook! The biggest thing you need to factor when ordering is it can take a week or more to get an appointment with someone which can really push out your dates so plan accordingly! Love my new cabinets! I didn't want an all-white kitchen but was also having trouble finding a color that wouldn't compete with the Saltillo tile floors. The CLJ Dusk paired with the supermatte white shaker provided the perfect combination. Customer service was top-notch! One star removed bc a couple of the edges on the CLJ dusk fronts were imperfect- I was able to position those edges on the bottom to hide since the fronts were not pre-drilled. read more

I would not recommend this company if you are doing a kitchen. After about two years one of my cabinets started peeling. I contact Semihandmade and they said: "We reviewed the damage to your panel and it looks like this could have been due to the proximity to the heat source. Our product warranty does not cover damages due to heat" Ugh there is a stove in the kitchen and yes there are cabinets installed by the stove.... They offered a ONE time replacement, as a courtesy. HOW ABOUT THEY MAKE KITCHEN CABS THAT WON'T PEEL. I expect much more considering the cost. Totally unacceptable. Take note because you have a bunch of collaborations with bloggers and companies for a sub par product. I feel like I was swindled and will never use or recommend them after this experience. I stumbled upon Semihandmade while browsing Pinterest looking for bathroom ideas. I had no idea such a company (or concept) existed. Checked out the website, and thought "let's give it a shot!" I ordered fronts for an IKEA Godmorgon bathroom vanity. After I placed the order, I got an email asking to clarify which style of Godmorgon I had, as IKEA had changed the drilling pattern a couple years ago, and there was no way to know whether I had the old or new style. (Interestingly, even though I had just purchased my vanity, it was still the "old" style drilling pattern.) I was happy that they had emailed to check. What a bummer it would've been to discover the holes didn't line up. After the fronts arrived, I got a call a couple days later checking to make sure everything was ok with the product. Another point for semihandmade's customer service. The fronts looked great, and they installed on the IKEA cabinet with no issues. I would definitely use them again. My project was small, so I'm not sure what the process would look like for an entire kitchen. But, this was easy, and customer service went above and beyond, even though I had no issues. read more

I bought doors for almost $3000 for my kitchen project, in total 25 pieces. Five of these pieces arrived damaged, one so badly that I couldn't use it. This was a time-sensitive project and I wasn't able to wait 2-3 weeks for replacement doors. I didn't even ask for a full refund, just a discount on the damaged doors, but they refused. In August 2017, Semihandmade replaced all of our IKEA kitchen fronts. I have waited until now to write the review, because I wanted to use them for a while. After almost 7 months using their product, we remain very very happy!!! They are better quality than IKEA fronts by far. The entire process with Semihandmade was easy and professional from start to finish. The installers they recommended were fabulous and our kitchen looks like it's had more than just the facelift it had. I highly recommend Semihandmade's products and their customer service has also been excellent. Our new Semihandmade fronts were paid for entirely IKEA because our original ones were still under warranty. IKEA was unable to replace our damaged fronts with matching ones, so had to replace all of them using a third party--Semihandmade. read more

I purchased fronts with the Walnut finish, and they were much duller than expected based on the photos available online. I was pretty disappointed and wouldn't order these again. Semihandmade does not allow returns, so you're stuck with whatever they send you. Make sure you get a sample, that's the mistake I made, and don't expect the finishes to match the photos on their website. read more

We spent over $10K on kitchen cabinet fronts and 80% of the drawer fronts were delivered without being predrilled. We called customer service and they reordered them only to have the second delivery have the exact same issue (we never got clarity on how it was possible for their quality control to miss something like that twice). Finally on the 3rd delivery they were able to get it right (minus one missing drawer front that had to be ordered again). The whole process took over 3 months to resolve and the most their customer service offered as a consolation for everything was a 6% discount which didn't cover any of our added time and expenses. read more

Black Handles have rubbed off to reveal metal underneath. Save your money and just go with the ikea fronts. I was able to see and touch their products, and get an idea of colors (computer monitors can be so deceiving!) and choices. The "rep" that talked to me placed a wrong order and now they are saying that is nothing they can do. To place a wrong order I could do it by myself. They just want your money, they do not care about you or your needs. I spent $1400 on floating shelves that will not work in our kitchen and when I tried a couple days shy of their cancellation policy to modify my order they were completely unwilling to work with me at all. I have spoken via email, phone, and live to chat to at least six different representatives having to explain the issue to each of them. Every time giving me the same canned response. Terrible service and a terrible model for customer service. It's unfathomable how short and unwilling to help they are. This spring my partner and I took on the task of renovating our kitchen and bathroom. After doing an extensive amount of research, we decided to work with Ikea for cabinets and order Semihandmade hands. I will start by saying the doors seem to be of good quality. We just finished the project so we have yet to live with them and experience wear and tear, but thus far, they seem to be heavy and durable. This being said, the ordering process is one that leaves much to be desired. Upon placing your order, you can opt to have your plan reviewed by someone at Semihandmade prior to them processing the order. I chose this option, knowing it would add a bit to our production time. In painstaking detail, I reviewed our Ikea plan and my outstanding order with someone from Semihandmade. Despite doing so, I received a piece that was incorrectly sized, leaving a hole above one of the cabinets. After the fact, I was told that this is how all orders are done - this piece is typically shorter than the space, and trim is used to fill in. I've explained over and over again that I wished the individual that reviewed my plan with me would have made that clear. Having known that, my approach would have been different - I likely would have ordered a custom door from the outset, ensuring a seamless look across all cabinets. Unfortunately, this was not made clear, leaving me having to make a decision to pay extra after the fact. As another reviewer mentioned, I've spent many hours on the phone with customer service - many! While everyone on the customer service team has been kind and attentive, the model just doesn't make sense. Each time I call, I'm connected to a different customer service representative. After discussing my problem (yet again), I'm told they will follow up with me later in the day. When I do receive a call or email to follow up, it's always someone different. I think I've emailed with or spoken to 6-8 different individuals; explaining my situation at least 4 times to each new representative. This customer service model just does not work. Again, while the product is nice and polished, the ordering process and customer service experience is lengthy and frustrating. I've yet decided if the cost is worth the headache.
