So glad to find out about Semilla so quickly after they opened! I am a total sucker for wood grain, so as soon as I walked in, I was in love. Fresh herbs lined the walls and the wooden tables were cozy and cute with super comfy benches (as we know, this isn't always the case with bench seating). Another thing that I thought was super cool was the placemat setup. I know it's a minor detail, but pretty cool and unique (no spoiler). The next thing that drew my attention was the giant Happy Hour sign! I can't wait to get back from 6-8 to check out the deals. Another big plus right of the bat, there was a steady flow of customers on a Tuesday, so I was feeling pretty good as we waited to order. Also Chef Frederick came over to chat it up with and showed us some love. Excellent service from the wait staff too. Since I did totally drop the 5 stars, let's get onto the food. We were lucky enough to try quite a few thing on the menu so here goes: Bacon Goat Cheese Croquettas: Oh my hell yes. Just as bomb ass as you are thinking right now, add the creamy dipping sauce then multiply by ten. I could possibly live off of these. Pot stickers: We tried two. Beef Short Rib and BBQ Rib - Super tasty spin on the pot sticker. Salmon & Avocado Tartar: Fresh, perfect flavor and light. Skirt Steak with Red Wine deliciousness sauce: This was on time. I had a big craving for some delicious red meat and this hit the spot. Perfectly cooked. tender. juicy. Yes. Snapper: I can't remember what was adorning this tasty fish, but truly the BEST cooked and seasoned fish that I've had in recent memory. Sounds crazy, but it's true. I was pretty close to licking the plate and SO sad when it was finished. I'm excited to try the other fish items on my next return. Tempura Brussels Sprouts: Yeah, you heard. I actually am a giant b-sprouts fan and these were out-of-control-amazing. The tempura batter with the layers of sprouts was on time. For those of you who aren't into the b-sprouts, this is your bridge to the world of b-sprouts. Ice Cream Mini-Sliders: No joke here. Chef Frederick totally took the sliders craze to the next level. I am so sad that my photo didn't come out better, because these little ice cream "burger" sliders with apricot "cheese" set on a macaroon bun blew me away. Go here immediately and order this. Save room for dessert. Snickers Candy Bar: Chocolate Lovers, this is for you. Now to everyone's shock and dismay, I am not a hard core chocolate lover, so this was actually too chocolaty for me personally, but I know a tone of people who would have died and gone straight to heaven after digging into this sweet treat. As you can see from this crazy list, Semilla is a spot that you may want to go with a few friends, so you can try more of what the Chef has to offer. I was blown away by every dish. Semilla is a great spot that seems to be doing well despite the horrendous construction on Alton. All of your irritation at attempting to navigate the combat zone that is Alton Road will melt away once you step inside Semilla! We came during the happy hour and sat at the bar. Lots of snacks and drinks for $6. Larry S. had a very strong and tangy margarita, and I had the not quite Dark & Stormy. MMMM, spicy deliciousness! We next sampled some of the starters; oysters (FRESH!!), pot stickers, shrimp tempura (the standout, super crisp and not at all oily), tenderloin skewer and the pork shoulder rillette. Incredibly crusty french bread was served alongside. Friends joined us and they had the ceviche (nothing remained in the bowl afterwards) and the french fries, which of course, we sampled! We are visiting for the week and tried this place based on the positive yelp reviews. Every item we have ordered has been amazing and loved the happy hour menu. My daughter has to eat gluten free , and it's nice to know we can still get a great meal with no worries. Exploring up Alton Road last night & decided to stop at Semilla. Called my eldest bambino & invited him over and while awaiting his arrival sat at the bar & met Melissa our very pleasant bartender/host for the evening. She recommended some starters and I was off to a good start with a glass of Argentenian Canernet on the way. The croquettes, oysters & beef on a stick apps were delish. Tesoro arrived and we then tried the shrimp potstickers which were just ok. A group of FSU college friends arrived so we sadly parted ways with Melissa & joined the group at table for our Rack of Lamb special with a side of country potatoes topped with bacon, cheese & sour cream... Aye MaMa... Yes we both sucked on the bones til there was nothing left. A cozy atmosphere, an attentive staff & a french owner/chef we're grateful has survived his first yesr amidst the crazy Alton Rd construction project. My South Beach FAVORITE restaurant If you haven't tried it yet, You are missing out! The food is just cooked to perfection by the French Chef Frederic Joulin. They offer one of the Best Happy Hour in South Beach All week from 6-8pm Tuesday's and Friday's until 10pm! They propose delicious finger food made Gastropub style. Semilla is BY FAR my favorite restaurant in Miami. I dine-in and order via UberEats quite often and have never had a single bad experience. Outstanding service. This family owned restaurant has a very cozy and chill ambiance. It's great for a sit down meal, or to simply hang out with friends over a bottle of wine or bubbly(which the sell at a great deal), they have happy hour specials for food and drinks. The slider is super tasty and the perfect size, if you are trying to pretend not to break your diet . The indoors in very spacious and charming. I've been received with a warm greeting each time I've visited. Costumer service is an important detail for me when I chose my go to regular local spots. We tried this little French bistro for the first time and it was ok. The service was good, the location is good, the inside and outside is quaint and cozy. The food was so so, we tried crunchy goat salad and the the lettuce used was Tuttle head lettuce which ruined the whole salad. The filet mignon was a bit dry and the broccoli had no taste we had asked for butter but guess they forgot. The most awesome item was the Truffle fries yummy, we definitely enjoyed them. Unfortunately on the way home I became a bit nauseous and my son had upset stomach I'm not sure exactly which item cause us to get sick but the Truffle fries were good read more

I went there with the Algonquin diner group so we had a set menu. Semilla is a gastropub very nicely decorated with a nice size bar in the middle. I had shrimp tempura & small salad w/citrus vinaigrette. As main dish branzino w/ratatouille + quinoa & for desert a sort of apple cobbler. Everything was delicious. Special day today at Semilla for the FIFA World Cup. Despite being completely packed, both service and food quality were a perfect "10". Chef Fred exemplifies what a great restaurant should be, what can I say, the French know how to run a great establishment. We ordered Beef Stroganoff, the Flank Steak with Truffle Fries+ Eggs Benedict, all prepared quickly and perfectly. Wine selection is excellent although I drank Duvel Belgian Ale. Such a lovely and broad menu, so we decided to order 3 meals and share Boeuf Bourguignon with GF pasta (every bit as good as Julia Childs), 10 oz Classic New York Steak Au Poivre with french fries and peppercorn sauce (AMAZING and my favorite), and Veal Milanese with GF pasta and small arugula salad. No wheat flour in the place. They use rice flour and corn starch in their recipes, so it was a GF kitchen. Hooray for our daughter. There were sooooo many choices, so we will be back before heading back home from vacation. Oh and don't forget dessert. WOWZA and 2 thumbs up for the Profiteroles (french cream puff with vanilla ice cream and thick hot chocolate sauce) and Floating Island Crème Anglaise, which cooked meringue topped with a decadent cream pudding, homemade whipped cream and fresh berries. Everything we had here was delicious! The goat cheese salad, baguette as an app was perfect for us to share. Filet Mignon and the sauce, and potatoes they were served with just melt in your mouth. The fish Branzino just peeled off the skin, and tasted perfect. Of the several meals we had in SoBe this was our favorite. Also can't forget the warm chocolate churro we brought home for dessert. Ok let me start with the negative and end with the positive. Anything gluten free on the menu means flavorless, the calamari and the fish and chips tasted like nothing. Now, the happy hour menu is very good. The wagyu burgers were amazing as well as the croquettes and the potstickers. We visited during happy hour and had delicious fresh oysters ($1.5 per oyster!!), calamari, tuna tartar tacos, and generous wonderfully tasting cocktails (7$ during happy hour!). The people who own the place are very kind and welcoming (and French so you know the food is authentic!). I'll start of by apologizing that I didn't take any pictures of my meal but I did of a few things around the restaurant. La Semilla is a great place to come for Happy Hour. Great drinks! If you want to eat well then be ready to pay big bucks. The food is pricey but good. To start I had the avacado and tuna Tartar. It was great and a small slider which was packed with juicy goodness. I also had a Burger and Mojito. Everything "food" was great. Now let's get to the real truth. Even though the food was great the service was pretty bad. I felt so bad for the servers. Only two in a packed restaurant around 6ish. I can imagine they were going crazy and maybe that's why the service sucked but no need for attitude! One thing that really made me mad was that I was taking care of a few kids. Yes we all know how kids can be. So one server (out of the two) gave me some fries. And I thought either the children's mom ordered it or they saw this poor girl with 7 kids and wanted to give them something. Either way I said thank you and the kids starting eating it. In the middle of taking a bit the other server (blonde chick) comes up to our tables and says "those are not yours! You didn't order them so you don't get them" then takes them away from me and the 7 kids. Mind you these are all kids under the age of 8! You can imagine the crying. I mean their fries! Their children" Really!!!!! Even if it was a mistake more "educated or polite" people would say "no worries since the children have already eaten them keep them" I'll pay for it i don't care but for you to do that!? The worse part is that she serviced it to another table! Two tables away from us. WOW! I told the manager of course! He said he would handle it but honestly I think he was so over worked he didn't pay too much mind to that. Of course the other moms and I were pissed. To top it off that same server had a HUGE attitude and was being very rude! Not only to me but to a few moms too. While she was talking to my client; my client got so fed up she just had to turn her head and walk away. No one in our party had something nice to say about her. Other than that... I'm not going to say much about this but go look at the pictures of the sofa they have you sit on. Disgusting!!!!!! This two pictures are from two different sofas. I think it's time to change them!!!
