Sen Dai is a very unassuming restaurant!from the outside, I would've totally pass it and never think twice. It's in a small stripall with very little parking. I visited on a Thursday night. The restaurant was already packed by 6pm with only a few seats at the bar left. We were the lucky 3 who snagged the last open seating. So... Come early, otherwise you'll probably wait an hour or so. Now the food- the menu is huge! They serve a bunch of diff dishes from bento boxes to curry to sushi. My party was focus on sushi tonight and they didn't disappoint! We tried several specialty rolls and the sashimi combo (comes in 16 or 30 pieces). I enjoyed it all. Not the best I've had but hit the spot since I was carving sushi. I like the creativity of their sushi rolls. The Storm Bringer (has soft shell crab), rockstar (with salmon) and Train (has king scallops and salmon). The Train roll was my favorite. When I saw that scallop is on it, I thought they'd put some cheapy scallops on top but to my surprise, they used king scallops. Yum! Now customer service experience- that was kinda lacking. Were we mistreated? No, but it was odd. We wanted to add more food for our table and was told twice that the person we flagged down wasn't a server and we had to wait for the server to come. If you haven't been to Sen Dai, what are you waiting for? The rolls here are fairly reasonable compared to other sushis restaurants. Most of the popular rolls are under $18 which I think it is pretty good! The portions are perfect and sushi tastes fresh! Well made sushi rolls and not sloppy. Baked sushi rolls are go-to! I always get the baked salmon roll ($15). Scrumptious! Sweet Spot Roll ($14) {cream cheese, smoked salmon roll topped with crab, spicy sauce, tempura crunch and unagi sauce}. Nice crunch from tempura flakes and spiciness from the sauce. SO DELICIOUS. Seafood Okonomiyaki looked and tasted amazing!! It had good bits of seafood and overall nice flavor. Good portion size too. Parking here sucks. Wait times can be long but sooo worth it! Service is fairly good from previous visits I've been to. Everything was fresh and delicious. Sen Dai is definitely one of the higher quality sushi restaurants in the area which makes them one of my fave sushi restaurants. I'd highly recommend. read more

One of the great benefits of Yelp is finding great places in areas you're not familiar with. This fits that example perfectly. This place is in a strip mall between a donut shop and an acupuncturist and we knew that when we walked in and saw the long line it was going to be worth it. There were 11 sushi chefs all working at the same time and the number of staff was impressive too. The service was beyond fantastic but be prepared to spend time reading the very long and detailed menu. The sushi was excellent and each roll was large and the fish portions were very generous. They have 5 different types of bluefin and our waiter really educated us on what was what. I love Sen Dai. I live in San Francisco and would easily drive here to fulfill my cravings. I love their big sushi rolls, they are usually part of my regular order (4-5 items between 2 people). Their sushi quality is pretty S tier across the board from sashimi to nigiri to regular rolls to their chirashi. Shout out to their staff who are hella friendly and great at anticipating needs (water refill, bussing plates). Lots of specialty rolls for you to choose from! I really enjoy the rockstar and storm bringer. I know people who enjoy the orgasmic, but cream cheese is not for me. My niece recently introduced me to the tempura udon here. She said it's her fave, so I took her word for it. I can see why she likes it. It was delicious and definitely hit the spot on a cold day. You get the udon bowl and then you get a plate of tempura to eat with. Service is fairly quick. If you need plates, ask for one. You're not given one to begin with. read more

Sen Dai is the real deal. I was in the neighborhood, in the mood for sushi, and saw all of the great reviews, otherwise, I would've missed this gem. For starters, I enjoyed the Seafood Sunomono - loaded with seafood, and the dish is fresh and flavorful. I also tried the Softshell Crab, which was nicely fried and served with ponzu sauce. The rolls were excellent, too, including the Milpitas Maki (extra large!), and the Spider Maki (yes, even more soft shell crab goodness). I have to mention that the service here is outstanding, friendly and quick. Finally, be sure to get here early. There were a few in line before the door even opened. Love this place! This place is always a good option for Japanese food around the Milpitas area. The wait wasn't too bad when I went this time, but usually around lunch time, it gets super packed. The parking lot is super tiny and only has a few spots where people can actually park for Sen Dai Sushi (some are for the liquor store). Anyways, I was sick with a cold, so I ordered a beef udon. The hot soup was absolutely perfect on a cold day and made me feel so much better. Although if you are expecting a lot of items in the udon, you're probably better off ordering the tempura udon instead. The beef udon literally only comes with beef strips, carrots, and spinach. I wish I didn't have such a nasty cough, otherwise I would've ordered the tempura instead. My boyfriend ordered the chicken katsu bento with a side order of tuna and salmon sashimi, which it looks like he enjoyed. I have since then tried it at other places but Sendai is very good. Also someone in our party tried Ramen and they reported that it's ok. I was really happy with the food but the service was slow and I felt that restaurant was too noisy and also jam packed with crowd. Expect to wait at least half an hour before being escorted inside. For all the sushi lovers, this one hits on the bullseye. The wait was a little long for 3 people, though it was definitely worth it. We each ordered a bento, and 2 sushi rolls to share. The staff were generous with the portions, and the meats were succulent paired with warm rice. The sushi was also delicious, with each piece being pretty huge. If you come in the evening, you shouldn't have that much trouble parking, as most of the other businesses are closed. We arrived and placed our name on the waiting list, and were quoted around 30 minutes. It was very close at about 40 minutes. This place is popular; however, they turn over tables as fast as they possibly can. We had an excellent time. Our server was fast and efficient and of course -- the most important part -- the food was awesome. We dined on only rolls this time around. We all shared the "Pop", "Secret", "Dragon", "Volcano" and "Philadelphia". We found that these five rolls were enough for our party. Every single one was delicious and we found the taste to be outstanding. Even the Philadelphia, which you can find in any sushi restaurant was outstanding. I arrived at around 5pm for a Saturday dinner and luckily got seated in 5-10 minutes. The typical line for a seat usually extends out the door, but I had arrived early enough for the line to still be contained within the restaurant. By the time I had finished ordering, the line definitely was out the door. I ordered the Cherry Blossom roll. The quality was standard and wasn't anything extraordinary, but there was nothing negative about it either. The individual pieces of the roll are larger than normal, so you're either going to have to break up each piece into two bites (which never really goes well) or you'll have to look like a chipmunk for an awkward 5 minutes per piece. Although the service was good and the waiters and waitresses were attentive, they were definitely rushing us out the door. I saw a waitress putting down the checks at a few tables (including mine) when people had barely started digging into their meal. I totally understand that they just want to get everyone a seat as soon as possible (very appreciated!), but staring at the check while finishing up my roll felt like going through airport security and throwing your items into the bins at high speed because of the long line of people behind you. My bf and I ordered two of their tekka makis which were $5.50 each, their alaskan roll-- which was $7 and also came in 6 decent sized rolls, and one of their $10 rolls that was deep fried and had smoked salmon and scallops in it. We wanted to get their cherry blossom roll but since they only come in 6-7 pieces, it wasn't that worth it since it costs $14.50 which I think is a little expensive.. The deep fried sushi roll came in 6-7 pieces and they were pretty big. I think my favorite roll out of the three would be the alaskan roll. It just had salmon and avocado in the middle, but it was super juicy and good! Overall, this is a great place to get lunch, just make sure to get there 20-30 minutes earlier. read more
