Food is Amazing, definitely worth the wait if it's busy! It can be a bit rushed once you're sitting and getting your order in. It's pretty cool if you sit at the barstool area, check out the sushi chefs working their sun dai magic. I think one of the best things I love about this small hole in the wall is that it's one of the best sushi restaurants and never disappoint with their fresh quality sushi.

My go-to sushi spot in the Bay area! Service is always really good, but I do want to say that the parking lot is pretty small so during peak hours, it is somewhat difficult to park. I think that I've come here about 10 times already and I've narrowed my favorites down to 3 items: Mark's Special ($16.50) for the scallops, Storm Bringer ($18) for the crab, and Pork Belly Bento ($21.50) a good bang for your buck, leaving us with leftovers to pack for lunch the next day! I've been to a good number of sushi spots but I always find myself coming back to Sen Dai because they just never miss. Must try!

Returned to Sen Dai Sushi after almost over 10 years and was very impressed with the fish to value ratio. The sister and I ordered takeout to eat at our parents house for an early Mother's day celebration. Our total came to about $220 before tax and tip. This order included: Combo roll U - this had 3 pre-set rolls at a slight discount Rockstar roll - yum, loved the lemon slice and mac nuts Toro sashimi combo - 9 slices of maguro, o-toro and chu-toro Individual fatty tuna sashimis Sake wasabi don - thicc slices of salmon. The wasabi sauce was aight 10 pc sashimi combo - nice variety Beef bulgogi rice plate - kind basic but we ordered this for the SO (non seafood liker) Our order fed 5 people total and everyone definitely came out so full. I can't say anything about the interior since my sister picked up the order. She did say that after placing the order online, she received a call to confirm the order. I thought that was nice. Overall, Sen Dai would be my go-to for quality fish at a decent price.

I usually go to Kakuna, but this place honestly blew it out of the water. Prices are super reasonable for the quality you're getting. The fish was fresh, thick, and really tasty. We got the Chirashi A bowl, Spider bowl, and Alaska bowl, loved all of them. The restaurant itself is also a lot cleaner and better maintained, which I appreciated. Service was great too, staff checked in on us multiple times and made sure everything was good. Also nice that the meal came with miso soup. Overall, such a solid spot and I'll definitely be coming back.

Came here for lunch and it was busy as usual. The plan was to go light and stop at a couple other restaurants for lunch so we only got three rolls. We got three of our regulars and they were delicious as expected. Staff is always quick and service is kind and attentive. Love Sendai Sushi!

Late post, but we ordered from door dash from here. It was recommended by our local friend bc they give you so much for such a good price. They have online combo specials, only for online ordering. I got their chirashi combo A and chicken teriyaki for the little one. My husband got their combo F, came with a rainbow and dragon roll for $28 ish. It was a lot of food, love it. The sushi was pretty good too. No fishiness or anything. Good deals for online orders.

Sendai has always been a fav of mine. It's been a while since I've been here but even on a Monday evening, it was still popping. I tried their chicken katsu bento and that was solid. It's so worth the price for everything you get. The chicken was so crispy and tender and not overly breaded. Their katsu sauce was tangy and so delicious. Salad was good. I wish they added more dressing. They do have a waitlist you can join. Service is really good considering how busy they are. Parking: still a pain.

My last several visits, both dine-in and takeout, have been great. The food, service, and speed were good, as always. I'm glad to see that their service has improved to the pre-COVID times.

Sushi rolls are fantastic here. My favorite sushi spot in Milpitas so far! Service is great! Everyone is always so friendly and attentive. This place is very popular in Milpitas so be ready to wait a min or two...it will be worth it. Our favorites are the following: Dragon roll Garlic edamame Hopyard roll Lemondrop roll Short rib bento (this visit the ribs were a bit fatty...if you don't like the fat on the meat, skip this one) Milpitas roll

Unagi Don (grilled eel), miso soup
Samantha L.

Popular local Japanese restaurant serving up fresh sushi and seafood! The Sake Wasabi Don had salmon sashimi, fresh and delicious. The Unagi Don had grilled eel with nice charred bits and a sweet glaze on top. The rice underneath was sushi rice, mixed with vinegar and sugar. Perfectly chewy texture. Amazing quality and thick slices of fish with lots of extra rice. We enjoyed having the side items that came with our order - radish sprouts, sliced yellow onions, pickled radishes, and tamagoyaki (rolled omelette). The juicy lemon slices provided nice pops of brightness over them. Both came with miso soups that very hot and soothing. Fast service even with their busy environment. For dine in, you can sit at the sushi bar or regular tables. Ordering online was easy and our food was ready for pickup upon arrival. Reasonable prices with generous portions, we were stuffed afterwards. Want to try their huge bentos in the future!

I Visited recently again. Still is one of the best places for sushi I've tasted! Service is fast and everyone is super nice.

Chirashi Combo A - tuna,scallop,sake,hamachi,kanpachi

Great value sushi joint in Milpitas nearby the library. Hearty portion sizes, pretty good quality fish, and affordable prices! I think it's decent for sit down too but there were LOTSSS of people ordering takeout and they have online only order variants of the menu for that It's more of a homey local / mom and pop style place rather than elegant fine dining, but still a nice dining experience. The sashimi cuts were quite thick, and while some bits of the kanpachi were slightly stringy I really appreciated how hearty the portion sizes were! I know fish quality varies but for the sashimi combo A I thought (in order) : tuna -- scallop -- salmon ---------- hamachi -- kanpachi! The star of dinner though was the fried soft shell crab!! It was done really well, the breading was really flavorful and added a nice grit / bite! Favorite dish !

Per recommendation from some friends, I came here on a weekend right before it opened, there was already a line. We got seated pretty quickly. There's a lot of staff making the sushi, and orders came out within 5 minutes. We ordered the: Nigiri Combo Appetizer B: it comes with hamachi (yellowtail), sake (salmon), chutoro (tuna) - 2 pieces each. The fish was good quality, really like the chutoro the best. The Booty Call Roll (4 large pieces) : there was a lot going on in this roll, really big as well for a single piece. It came with spicy tuna, unagi, fried shrimp, avocado, fish eggs, a variety of sauces and macadamia nut. Overall it was fine, I prefer smaller rolls. The Storm Bringer Roll (8 pieces) : recommended by the wait staff, it came with soft shell crab, crab roll, topped with yellowtail, salmon, unagi, avocado, unagi sauce and fish eggs. Very good sushi roll. Overall, pretty good for price in terms of quality and portions. Will definitely be back again.

Ask the Community - Sen Dai Sushi

Will you be open for takeout during dinner time on 11/26/2022?

Do they have kids menu?

I don't think so. I have seen parents share dishes with their kids.

Have they opened indoor dining?

Yes, although it's a small number of tables.

Dine in available?

We dined in a month ago.

Dine-in available? The website says no.

I believe it is - but I would call the restaurant to double check because that can change!

Is dine-in available as of today 7/19/2021?

Yes!

Any no rice sushi on the menu that can be ordered?

They have sashimi platters if that's something you're interested in

Is dine in option available?

No, not available yet. But they have a great fast pick up service with two window's for faster services!

How do I purchase gift cards?

You can purchase gift certificates in the restaurant.

Is there outdoor seating? or only delivery/takeout? thanks.

Only takeout! And it gets very busy on Friday and Saturday night.

Has anyone tried to order on their website, door dash or grub hub? I'm getting an error message. It's not working for a week now.

It works as of today.

Are they closed? This is my Friday night fix but cannot seem to reach them via phone or doordash?

They accept take-out orders.

Do they have vegan sushi options?

is this really a question???

Happy hour specials?

Not at this place :(

What dressing do they use on their salads? It tastes great!

It is the usual Japanese style dressing based on ginger. You can actually get bottles of them at Japanese mart like Mitsuwa.

Do they serve oystershooter drinks here?

No oyster shooters here.

Do they have all you can eat?

Sadly, no.

Sen Dai or Satomi?

Sen Dai!

Has anybody dined here with a shellfish allergy? Are they good about not cross-contaminating?

We arrived around 6PM and were seated immediately. We came for the seafood don and both got the UME with an addition of the ochazuke set. For $26 + 4.5 for the set, I think it's really worth the price and you get a good amount of fresh fish. Each bite felt like I was transported to Japan and eating a Kaisendon. Although we had to wait for a bit for the dashi soup to arrive , it was a delicious end to our meal. So comforting and hearty.

Same quality but Bigger portions and better dashi, for about the same price? Sign me up. My girlfriend and I skated the potato salad appetizer - a delicious DIY experience that let you control the texture of your potato salad (though I feel I overmixed), and two take bowls which were MASSIVE - easily could have shared. The seafood was fresh, the portions generous, and maybe it's because I have a more Americanized palate, but the mixed seafood dashi was richer and paired much better than a mild seafood chazuke. Plus it came with shiso leaves and tempura crunchies so it was really no comparison. Overall this was a delicious meal that left me extremely full, unlike other seafood bowls that leave you just a little too hungry. Given the tastiness of their dashi, I'll def be back to try their udon. Also, as an added bonus, my dogs love the little dashi fish topper on their food they sell separately at the front. Love! --- Sweet: amazing dashi broth, delicious seafood bowls. Rare instance of a dinner living up to the hype Bitter: wish they had mini versions of their more deluxe bowls!!

The portion size of their chicken katsu cutlet was enormous, and I loved how perfectly cooked it was. The batter was the perfect thickness and super crispy, without being greasy in the least. And the portion of rice and curry was perfect. I don't love pickles, but I like that they give you some pickles on the side to cut through the richness. And I also really appreciated the miso soup with just enough wakame and tofu. The batter was a bit sweet, but only in an after taste. The curry is not super spicy, and I do wonder if there is a way to make it more spicy by adding oil, but it still had a good depth of flavor that paired well with both the rice and the fried chicken. We came early on a Wednesday for lunch, at 11:45, before the crowd, but by the time we left at 12:30, there were people waiting for tables. The inside is not huge, but they do have counter seating for single diners. The staff was friendly and efficient and speedy in presenting us our food on the beautiful trays. I kind of wish their water glasses were bigger because we had to wave down a server for refills. I will definitely be back!

(10/10) Chicken Katsudon - Didn't try this myself, my friend ordered and enjoyed, they just wish it came with sauce (so they ordered some on the side and enjoyed it) Keep it mind it comes with egg and is very filling! Tonkatsu Curry - Japanese curry is the perfect comfort food, and this was exactly how Japanese curry should be and exactly what I was craving. Katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside, good ratio. I think the pork could be slightly more moist, but the flavors was good and paired with the curry it was non issue. Very thick piece of pork so I had to take some left over and it stayed crispy the next day after reheating which is always a plus! (9/10) Miso soup -- comes with the sets but a perfect bowl of miso for me, nice way to start the meal. He's lived in Japan, had it there, was forced to eat it here, and were forced to eat the Onigilly onigiri and he actually says that it's not bad and pretty good which is a super rare occurrence. Actually the first time that I've ever seen it happen. I ordered the onigiri to go and was able to enjoy it around 30 minutes after while they were still warm an edible and the nori wasn't too soggy either. Rice went perfect with the protein filling and this was before seeing it get destroyed later. Filling was sauced and seasoned and mixed to perfection, so there was no need for anything to dip it into. I got to try the baked salmon, snow crab (with lemon aioli), spicy tuna poke with krab salad (imitation crab), and the fried purple yam fries. Everything else was sadly impossible to consume later on. LOVED the spicy salmon poke onigiri and my boyfriend did too. Had a good kick and is everything you'd want out of a regular poke bowl but in a smaller portion. Good stuff. I really liked the snow crab too, not too fish and went great with the tangy and creamy lemon aioli. Rich, indulgent taste. Purple yam fries were a nice treat to snack on and wasn't too dry or oily. The baked salmon onigiri was standard and fine. This is a franchise I've only seen in the Bay Area and I don't mind trying more in the future, just with ordering less at any given time to reduce food waste...
