Generous portions and content in sushi. For a change we couldn't finish three rolls! Ample seating and good fast service. Ps: yummy place

Another update! They have expanded into the space that used to be a martial arts studio so they have a large space to sit down and eat. Whenever we do want to have sushi rolls, we tend to look at Kakuna as it's nearby and on our way during our errands. We usually call in our orders and we get our food in a timely manner and we can easily pay by credit card. We did eat inside once and it was a pleasant experience. Definitely a good spot for sushi. Try them out!

We came during lunchtime on a weekend. It wasn't very crowded, parking was easy in their lot. We were seated right away. I don't recall the name of the roll I ordered but everything was reasonably priced and the portions were right! It is brightly lit inside with natural lighting. Service was quick. Everyone was satisfied with the quality of their rolls and would come back. I wish I lived closer to a kakuna because I would go more often! Food came out pretty quickly as well.

The Sushi was discolored honestly the shrimp did not even look like shrimp, and the way they served it was really bad , big pieces not appetizing at all. The guy that served me was really nice and he agreed with my opinion. The place is big but really hot inside., Sorry but I was not impressed.

Honestly this is one of my favorite sushi places to go to! It is inexpensive for sushi, and the fish quality is always good! The location and outside look is pretty outdated but the food is fire The utensils and water is self serve but the workers were pretty nice. Nothing over the top but for the price, this place is unbeatable!

I've eaten inside the restaurant as well as placed takeout order via delivery service and enjoyed the food both times. In person the service is quick and attentive. The chicken bento lunch was delicious and well cooked. The rainbow roll was also pleasant.

Oh wow, it's so fresh. I got the deluxe Chirashi for $35.99. Glad I got this. Delicious and I would recommend to anyone to try it.

Very delicious. I really recommend this place Sushi is very good & and very affordable.

This is my first time at Kakuna. We came in around 4 pm and were seated immediately. The restaurant is spacious and bright. Solid sushi for the price! The kakuna roll was my favorite.

Came here with my friend because we were craving sushi, and we weren't disappointed! We ordered three rolls: Splash Brothers, Orange Blossom, and the Boojee Roll. The Boojee Roll, with deep-fried lobster and real crab meat, was our favorite--it was incredible. Their mixed vegetable tempura was extremely crispy. Even though we didn't eat it right away, it didn't get soggy or lose its crunch. We also opted for the regular salted edamame instead of garlic, which was perfect. The seaweed salad was wonderfully refreshing and had a nice crisp, cold texture. Finally, we had the spicy black garlic ramen with pork belly. We've had it before, and this time it was a bit spicier than usual, but still full of flavor and deeply satisfying. Overall, everything was tasty, flavorful, and extremely enjoyable.

This place is still my go-to sushi spot! I always recommend whenever friends and family want a spot. They've also expanded to fit more people too! No longer a hole in the wall but a staple. The service is great and everyone is friendly. My water cup is always full. The food itself is amazing and I always leave so satisfied. The sushi is fresh. I've pretty much tried the entire menu and I still come back. My favorites for the table is the Kakuna roll and the Japanese nachos. The deluxe chirashi bowl here is the best of every place I've tried. You get a little bit of everything and I mean EVERYTHING including uni & unagi. For the price you pay, it's a steal! I always order the deluxe chirashi when I'm here.

I arrived as part of a party of two and was the first to get there, yet the place prioritizes groups of four or more. They seated two groups of four who arrived after me--despite my pointing out that I had arrived first--without offering any explanation; they simply acknowledged me but kept me waiting, even though tables suitable for us were available. They were clearly intent on prioritizing larger groups. As for the sushi, it was terrible. I will never return.

My coworker knows all of the good places! We ordered online for pickup and I chose the seaweed salad and Lion King roll. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The salad had the right amount of crunch and the roll was very tasty. Kakuna is very generous with Ginger and Wasabi too. I'll definitely be back to try other dishes!

Ask the Community - Kakuna Sushi

Is this also all you eat restaurants?

No it's not an all you can eat.

Are they open for dine in, i know before they weren't?

Yes. Both location are open for dine in

Do they serve imitation crab? Or real crab meat?

default is imitation, but you can upgrade to real crab meat for like 3 dollars 50! It's worth it, imo.

Are they open for in person dining at this time?

I've seen small tables but I can't confirm if they are open for in person dining. You could get those delicious sushi to a park nearby and eat them.

I've tried calling on two separate sundays and no one ever answers the phone. It says it's open on Sundays but does anyone know if it is in fact open or closed?

I had to call a few times on Sunday evening after 6 until someone finally called me back. They said they are very busy and couldn't pick up every call. Also when it's busy,…

We were led to our seats and once we were given the menu, we started studying it meticulously. I got the HINODEYA "House" Ramen, my wife got the Beef Bowl "Gyudon", and our friend got a ramen with katsu in it. They asked me if I wanted my ramen mild, medium or hot in spiciness. I went with the medium option. I enjoyed my ramen. The broth was well made but I didn't notice much difference between the wheat noodle they've used versus normal noodle used in other shops. The portion was not big for its price and I was about 80% full from the bowl. When I tasted a bite of my wife's beef bowl, boy was I disappointed. They added way too much sauce and honestly I can't say this dish is good. The beef wasn't cut in the traditional way in how a gyudon should be and it turned out a little bit thicker which is a little weird for me. I would compared it to a Yoshinoya and the irony is that I actually like the beef bowl from Yoshinoya better at half the price? lol. Our friend shared a little bit of her katsu with us and we thought it was way too dry. Perhaps it's been sitting at the heat lamp for way too long... Overall, what I feel about Hinodeya is that they've definitely have some unique ideas in their dishes but the execution and consistency still needs to be worked on. I noticed that there were 4 different spicy level and I was a little curious as to what they were. It wasn't until I asked the waiter that they explained them to us. I was a little puzzled because this seems to be what they wanted to push but we just weren't told to us in our visit until way later... It's a 50/50 whether I'll come back or not. I think there are definitely improvements for a good ramen spot that people would crowd upon in the bay area for sure.

From M-F, 11:30am-2pm (closing) for just $19.90, you get to pick one of the ramen bowls, and one of appetizers that are listed (at half the size). Here's what we got: FRIED OYSTERS (5) - $12 This was not one of the appetizer options to the lunch specials but sis really needed her fried oysters, haha. This comes with a side of creamy sauce that tasted like a yummy potato salad. It was awesome! The fried oysters were very hot to be careful, and it was very much enjoyed even though it scraped the roof of my mouth, haha. TONKOTSU RAMEN - $16.95 Tonkotsu (Pork Broth) chashu pork, green onion, yellow onion, soft boiled egg, fried green onion, kikurage mushroom. I'm happy that we get a WHOLE egg and not just half! Everything about this bowl was so good and creamy! GYOZA (6) - $8 Chicken/Veggie pan fried post stickers. The lunch specials only come with 3 pieces, and I'm always happy when your savory finger food comes with a dip! No complaints here! KARAAAGE (6) - $10 Fried Boneless Chicken. The lunch specials only come with 3 pieces, but they are huge! Juicy dark meat pieces, with a nice creamy srirarcha dipping sauce! Also hot, so be careful! It just means it's fresh! They have a back room that was nice and quiet. You can smell the fresh clean laundry from the laundromat next door, haha. The service was great, and everyone was so nice and attentive. Upon my arrival the kind host greeted me immediately and allowed me to take a seat. I was unsure of what to order and I had asked the host what to get and he positioned for me to try the coconut miso ramen and lemme tell you it was honestly one of the best bowls of ramen I've had. The broth was incredibly rich and velvety, with the coconut adding a subtle natural sweetness that complemented the deep umami of the miso instead of overpowering it. It created a balanced, layered flavor that was both comforting and surprisingly refined. Every spoonful had depth, and the broth was so good that I found myself wanting to finish every last drop. The noodles had an excellent texture, firm with just the right amount of chew--allowing them to hold onto the broth beautifully. The toppings were fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and blended seamlessly with the overall dish, adding texture and flavor without distracting from the star of the bowl. What impressed me most was how harmonious everything tasted. Fusion flavors can sometimes feel forced, but this ramen was exceptionally well executed. The coconut and miso worked together to create something unique while still respecting the traditional character of ramen. If you're looking for a bowl that's comforting, flavorful, and a little different from the usual tonkotsu or shoyu, I can't recommend the Coconut Miso Ramen at Tadamasa highly enough. It's the kind of meal that stays on your mind long after you've finished eating, and I'll definitely be coming back for it.
