When he complained about not being able to sleep, and how much pain he was in, the nursed would ask him the same questions that another nurse had asked him the day before. Then we got a lot of "I'll leave a note for your doctor". It seems that the note never got left because we were told that several times about my Dads pain. He would occasionally go up to 11 hours without it. It was prescribed for every 6. So I asked for a list of his medications and the times that he is given them. I have medical power of attorney, so it seems easy enough. Nope! Not here. First I asked a woman at the front desk area, who refused to give me her name, and she told me I had to find his nurse.... Well, he was nowhere around my Dad's room, so I asked his CNA, Moreno. She told me that I had to ask his nurse. Like Im supposed to wander around the care facitly looking for his nurse. So I hit his call button. 25 minutes later, I timed it, Moren, his CNA came in. "I don't need you, I need his nurse", I said. He finally came in and asked the same questions and said he'd leave the doctor a note. Unbelievable. So I tried to contact 2 people in charge of his care, Debbie and Joyce. No one answered the number I was given by his nurse Jordan, and Debbie hasn't replied to my email. It's been over a week and still no response. I am beyond pissed off about this. I would tell anyone looking for a care facility, full-time or for recovery, to pass on this one. They obviously don't care much about their patients. And, sorry this is so long. If anyone from the facility would have called me back, I would have told them all of this in such less public way. Please! Pick the next one on the list...

I stated several times that I am allergic to cucumbers, and yet they were still in every salad (I ate a lot of salad because so much of the food was inedible.) They were short staffed, so I frequently waited up to 20 minutes for a CNA, not good when the meds give you diarrhea. Most of the staff gave it their best, but not all. One night an older woman (I presume a CNA) came in, bent over my bed and shook me angrily. I was stunned, but later figured out that she thought I was the woman crying, "Help me, someone please help me," on and off all night. Still no excuse for what she did, and she should be fired for patient mistreatment. I would NEVER allow a relative of mine to be here; they don't pay enough attention to what patients need, and at least one of the actually abused me. They consistently check on my grandma and even visit a few times a year to ensure she's receiving the care she deserves. My family and I are truly grateful for this company. We know we can rely on them, and that peace of mind means everything. Thank you to everyone who continues to make sure my grandma is well cared for. Happy holidays to you all!

Second, he told me not to keep any appointments or interviews with other providers while I consider them. I had to say yes or no without talking to anybody else, what? I was desperate for help. THREE home visits later, they finally brought me a caregiver. I explicitly asked for someone who likes big dogs. They brought me someone who's "biggest fear in life" was dogs. Brandon from Zara said she will get used to them. I said this wont work for me, but my point is, Dominic and Brandon didnt hear my needs on several points. To top that off, he said Oregon law states that Zara must have regular home visits several times a year so they can make sure their employee is doing the job, and to know Im not covering up anything. Nope, once a year and thats to reasses. He INSISTED before I had to say Ill go with another, less bothersome company. He relented to twice a year, I said once. If my caregiver was ever late or sick, Brandon would call me to see if my care giver was telling the truth. I had to tell them twice not to bother me with that stuff. My caregiver said she hadnt gotten a raise in nearly 2 years. When she called in sick, Dominic told her to stop being childish...?... And she quit without notice, I cannot blame her and I miss her, she was the best caregiver I ever had! His lack of managerial skills affected my life in a bad way. Because of Zara, I went 2 weeks without help, and with a fractured ankle.

She's been very happy there and loves all the staff who seem so kind and loving. Our favorite is Mercedes and her daughter Lana. They work really hard to provide many stimulating activities for the residents. My mom is just about to turn 98 and I feel at peace with her being at Cherrywood.

Right after I wrote my review I discovered there was a new weekly menu and an attempt to provide…read moremore variety to their menu options for vegetarians. This is a very welcome step. I also want to note that their meals are not expensive. Some people prefer quantity over quality. Your safest bets are the salads, avocado toast, soups, and fruit bowls. Part of my frustration with Cherrywood is that its a retirement home and the residents don't have a choice where to eat most days. At least this is true for those who can't easily travel. So the meals should be appetizing and inviting. There is a culinary director but somehow he claims to not be involved in culinary matters. I want that job. However, one would think the culinary director would offer to forward your concerns. This doesn't happen. The culinary director is NOT the chef. The chef and his staff try really hard. You usually won't find the culinary director. I don't see him helping when there is a rush, he has never greeted me or seated us where there is a line, and I assume he is usually in his office. One does see him on the family events. So he isn't totally invisible. Sounds like Cherrywood needs a culinary director who is responsible for improving the dining experience in their restaurant willing to greet guests. As stated before, Cherrywood caters to 7th Day Adventists and they are vegetarian. Their vegetarian selections are hopefully getting better. They were not really good before. The worst meal I had there was at the last Thanksgiving. That veggie meal included two slices of fake turkey. Think bologna or spam for Thanksgiving. As a comparison one of their competitors offers a nice salmon dinner every day as an option. Cherrywood offers this maybe once a week. Just saying other retirement homes offer better food services. I hope things get better.

Cherry Blossom is a beautiful facility, with some excellent caregivers.  However, our experience…read morethere ended up being a nightmare.  Mom has Parkinson's, and had in-home care for three years, prior to moving into a facility.  We had always been thrilled with the caregivers and agency providing care (previous on-line reviews I've left about my mother's care have always been glowing). Cherry Blossom did a thorough assessment of mom prior to her moving in (interviewing her at length, plus gathering information from her doctor, her family, and her in-home caregiver).  Based on that, they told us the rate would be $5400/month.  We knew the rate might increase over time, as her needs increased.  When I reviewed that initial plan, I was pleased to see that it was thorough and accurately described my mother's condition and needs. However, just two months after she moved in - with no change to her health status - the monthly rate increased by over $2000.  Two months later, it increased another $2000 (in four months went from  $5400/month to almost $10,000). All rate changes were retroactive (and added on to the current bill); the final monthly invoice was over $11,000! Who knows how much higher the monthly rate would have skyrocketed, had Mom continued at CB. Side note: I just saw another reviewer on here with a similar experience. CB responded to that reviewer that maybe the family had not been 'truthful' about their parent's needs. That could not be further from the truth for us - we provided accurate information about our mother, and I trusted that the care plan written by CB was a correct representation of that.   Cherry Blossom attributed much of the change in mom's care plan to her behavior.  In the final care plan (where they assessed the $10K monthly rate), they described behaviors we had never seen in mom.  The new plan stated that she now needed 2 caregivers at all times (although she weighs 100 pounds, and her PT describes her as a '1-person transfer'). On the multiple instances we visited her after this new care plan (when we were now paying for 2 caregivers), she still never had more than one caregiver assisting her - for toileting, dining, dressing, etc.  The evening/weekend med aides were wonderful. Unfortunately (from the beginning and on multiple occasions), I observed the regular weekday med aide being very abrupt and rude in her interactions with mom.  They developed a contentious relationship, which led to challenges at medication time, and could have contributed to the behaviors CB described.  The written reports I had a chance to review, describing her 'negative' behaviors were almost all initiated by that one individual. Ironically, several other med aides and caregivers at CB told me that mom was their favorite resident; enjoyable and funny.  At CB, Mom spent almost all hours of the day (except for meals) in her room. They said that she elected not to participate in the few available activities, which surprised us, as she has always been very social (she has difficulty ambulating and needs a caregiver's help to get into her wheelchair or get started with her walker - so if they didn't help her, she sat in her room). At CB, she had multiples falls each week (likely because of spending so much time alone in her room). Her room was also almost always dark - shades pulled down, and overhead lights/lamps usually turned off.  When I visited I would always open the blinds and turn on the lights, which she preferred.    We have moved mom to a wonderful new facility.  In the months she's been there, we have not heard any reports of the 'difficult' behaviors described by CB.  She often spends time doing activities or just enjoying the community room with other residents. The difference in social atmosphere at the new facility is palpable. On most days, many residents gather for hours in the community area (as opposed to the 2-3 residents I typically saw out and about at CB).  Mom has a positive relationships with her caregivers.  She has only fallen 1 time in her months in this new facility (probably because she now spends much of her time in a group setting, rather than isolated in her room with the door shut).  When she is in her room, the lights are on, shades are up, and her door is open to the community space. Her care plan appropriately says she only needs one caregiver to assist her.  The plan was recently updated, but the monthly rate this new facility initially quoted us (almost four thousand less than Cherry Blossom's final rate) has not increased.  The new facility's administrator is wonderful, flexible, and works with us on solutions when needs are identified. We are so happy we made the move; it is a much better situation for mom.

I was hired on for day and swing back in August. I…read moreexpressed that DAY SHIFT was preferred and was told by Laura that she could work with that, and I was given swing shift instead. When I confronted Laura about it, she then told me she wouldn't be able to schedule me for even 3 days a week if I were to do day shift, which is a lie because again, all staff are working doubles day into swing or swing into night, so really it's Laura managing the schedule super poorly, . Laura will lie to you in the interview, and tell you she can work with what you need or give you a certain position, but then put you on swing, and as a caregiver. when you approach her telling you what she need, she'll express looking at the schedule then say she cant give you those days. The employee turnover rate and staff working doubles is awful because of the way Laura runs the schedule, she DOES NOT care about her employees at all. The staff there are seriously overworked, because Laura doesn't know how to run a schedule, she should not be in the position she is in at all. She will over promise and not deliver DO NOT WORK HERE My best experience was with other caregivers and residents, management is extremely poor, and shouldn't be managment.
