Lina maintained regular communication to ensure my mother received the specific care she needed when she needed it. Unfortunately I never received a response. What makes this even more concerning is that they serve elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and families who are already under tremendous stress and relying on these services for support. They present themselves as compassionate and caring, but that has not been my experience. If you are seeking respite services through this agency, be prepared for poor communication, more stress, more disappointment and difficulty getting the assistance you need.

Their representative rushed me through the sign-up process without any clear explanation of the services that they were going to provide. Specifically, their communication to the parties involved (Assisted Living, the attending physician, and me) was vague, ambiguous, inconsistent, and confusing at a time when job descriptions should be crystal clear. It is Care Choices' responsibility to coordinate care and especially to make sure that "their" patient is being properly attended to. Hospice services are not just to provide a hospital-style bed and a wheelchair. As a direct result of Care Choices' lack of clarity, the Hospice service was waiting for the attending physician to treat, the attending physician was waiting for Hospice to treat, and the family was waiting for the patient to receive necessary care on a prompt basis. As it was, the patient's care was overly delayed, which caused the patient medical distress and the family members completely unnecessary emotional distress.

Very disappointed with Mission Home Health's communication and delay in care…read more I was discharged from UCI on Friday, September 18 after a first rib resection, anterior/middle scalenectomy and brachial plexus neurolysis. My discharge paperwork specifically ordered an initial home-health evaluation within 48 hours. Mission called Friday at 1:31 PM. I missed the call but returned it at 2:34 PM--only 63 minutes later. No one returned my call Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and no home-health evaluation occurred within the ordered 48-hour timeframe. They finally called Monday at 11:38 AM, but only to verify my information. I was then told someone else would call me to set up the visits. So, more than three days after discharge, I still didn't even have my first visit scheduled. Those first couple of days were when I actually needed the help. I was newly postoperative, in significant pain, and needed assistance with basic things like showering and dressing. Instead, my husband and I had to figure out my postoperative care ourselves. I understand missing a call can cause a slight delay, but I returned it just over an hour later. I don't understand receiving no follow-up for the entire weekend when the hospital specifically ordered an evaluation within 48 hours. I can't review the quality of their nurses or therapists because I still haven't received a visit. I can only review their communication and start-of-care process, and my experience so far has been extremely disappointing. Home health after major surgery is most valuable when you first get home--not days later after you've already had to figure everything out yourself.

He assisted us again in June when my mother required surgery and needed some assistance when she returned home. We had people lined up a week in advance. We were able to - with notice - revise the plans as my mom didn't need the night care we anticipated. Katie was my mom's day nurse and she was terrific - as are all of the LWHC staff.
