Wondering what to do for lunch during a break between middle school basketball games. Tulelake's coach said the Mexican place was pretty good. He's a master of understatement. Senor Tequila is outstanding. Walking in past the unassuming storefront, you walk by two rows of tables. The menu is on the wall, you order then you have a seat in the nicely upholstered seats. Chips and salsa come out. The salsa is nicely balanced, hint of spicy. My daughter had the chicken quesadilla, I had the carne asada plate and a pair of al pastor tacos that were advertised on the special board. Quesadilla was deliciously crispy, cheese well melted, chicken was well seasoned and generously portioned. The tacos were awesome too. Amazing seasonings, onion, cilantro sauce, and a tasty little jalapeño and some guacamole. The carne asada plate was the highlight. Good meat that I got to slice into strips, oustanding beans and rice. I got the handmade tortillas and made myself little tacos out of the plate ingredients. When he took our order, the guy asked if I wanted cheese and a grilled jalapeño. What a great idea! So good, and put a great meal over the top. Now to find an excuse to go back. read more

We stopped here on a road trip based on good reviews and they were spot on. The fish and shrimp tacos a la cart were delicious. The fillings were cut up into perfectly edible bite sizes. The family was starving after enjoying the Lava Bed National Park. The closest restaurant was Captain Jacks but it was temporarily closed. The owner suggested we go up the road to Senor Tequilas in Tulelake. Boy was she right! For starters, the homemade Cucumber Aqua Frescas was refreshingly sweet and energizing. The Guacamole/Pico de Gallo appetizer was fresh, chunky and just the right balance of sweet and salty. Three of us ordered the street tacos with freshly made tortillas. As good as any I've had in local taquerias in SoCal. The al Pastor was the best I've ever had and the Carne Asada wasn't far behind. Our other family member had the Shrimp Burrito loaded with fresh, juicy shrimp, rice and bell peppers. The only two misses were the chips (tasted store bought and a little stale) and too many peppers in the burrito. Finally, the service was extremely friendly and fast. The bathroom is also exceptionally clean. We definitely recommend Senior Tequila the next time you're in this neck of the Northern California border. read more

Senor Tequila is an attractive little spot, with the most friendly and attentive staff ever! They have a good menu with lots of choices, plus daily specials. Everything looked really tasty, and we chose taco salad for me and the daily special for my husband. However, I need dietary adjustments, and they were SO accommodating! Then when the salad arrived, perfect! All of my concerns were answered, and the salad was big and delicious! The chicken was so tender, moist and tasty. All of the ingredients were fresh and well seasoned. It was an abundant dinner, and not only did I enjoy my meal, but the atmosphere and the staff made it a really GOOD night! And of course the daily special.... okay, I don't know the name of it, but when it was ordered we just asked for the daily special. The owner told us the name and the ingredients, plus the prep. It sounded too good to be true - but, you guessed it - perfection arrived on the plate! The pork was cooked to tender and delicious perfection. Great seasoning that enriched the dish, instead of hiding it behind heat. The rice and beans were not "usual".... yep, Mexican rice and beans, but both were tender and moist. Not wet and tasteless, but rich and complimentary to the pork. And, not to forget the tortillas. I know - but without the best tortillas, the food would just be average. It was NOT.... all of the food is full of flavor, quality and not only fills you up, but makes you want to come back! Yep, again - it IS THAT good!!! The owner is a Tule Lake native. He wants to make his business the best and thriving! The salsa was so fresh, the pico with avocado had just the right amount of kick to it. Some of the best Mexican food our group has ever eaten. Everything is made fresh and is homemade. They had just made a fresh batch of Chille relleno and it was an amazing treat! The homemade salsa had just the right amount of kick to keep you coming back for more. My taco salad was in a homemade tortilla that had been deep fried when I ordered instead of on of the pre-made shells. The portions were very filling I just wanted to eat more even after I was beyond full because it was so good. All of the staff was very friendly and created a good ambiance. I ordered a side of the homemade tortillas and they too were excellent. All food is made from scratch and you can taste it. Stopped in today for dinner with my family. Service was great and food was amazing!!! We had tacos, burritos and enchiladas which we all enjoyed. They have home made corn tortillas that were perfectly made. Ordered a side of guacamole which consisted of fresh chunks of avocado, tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime. This is some of the best authentic Mexican food I have ever had. Everything tastes so fresh and homemade and the employees are so friendly. The salsa is epic. We ate two bowls of it and ordered a third to go! The beans are obviously slow simmered and have layers of flavor. The enchilada sauce is amazing and is made with chiles, not tomatoes. This is not your heavy cheese bath gut bomb Mexican fare. Even our cheese enchiladas were not greasy and were topped with a fresh mound of crisp lettuce and tomato. Splurge for the hand made corn tortillas if you order the fajitas or tacos. (We had the Texas fajitas) They cost extra but are thick, hot and made to order. The people of Tulelake are lucky.
