We visited Senora Arepa on a girls night! Thank goodness we made reservations since it was packed on a Friday night. This is a new location in St. Matthews and parking was awful, but the restaurant is brightly lit from the outside and very welcoming. We ended up getting a high top table by the bar, and the service was excellent. We had 2-3 servers constantly asking if we needed anything. The drink menu is extensive, but I opted for a passion fruit daiquiri ($12), and it was delicious. Slightly sour and a good amount of rum! Truth time, I had two . Our server was excellent and explaining the different areas of the menu and making suggestions based on meat preferences and other desirables. We started with the guacamole and also ordered the paracon con queso. For my entree I ordered the Churrasco, which is a skirt steak, carmelized onions, chimichurri with rice and black beans. It was expensive around $31. It was very good and the rice and beans were the icing on the meal. Overall I had a good experience but my bill was $70 before tip, which is a bit pricey for one person.

    Arepita Sampler- just order it.

First, the service. Amazing! Bartenders, hosts, mgrs all were super friendly and helpful. Let them know it's ur first time and they will walk you thru everything. We had the margarita (5/5 for us- which tasted like a real one, not all syrup..they're strong fyi lol). We also tried El Gubyabo- think strawberry daiquiri but funky and with tequila (3/5 for us). Tried the Cafecito Martini - espresso martini but not strong coffee flavor. More dessert flavor. But stupid good (5/5). For comparison, not on menu, asked them to make regular espresso martini (they have a real espresso maker) - it was strong (coffee flavor) and so good! (4.5/5). Opted for sampler appetizer- the Arepita Sampler- it was recommended for first time visit to understand the menu better. Highly recommend it! And make sure to use some of the dipping sauces they offer on table - like hot sauce or cilantro/garlic creamy sauce, they are all made in house. Ok the sampler - the great thing is you get a sample of most of the proteins they offer. I'm not going to rate each one, it's more fun for you to do that on ur own. But our favorite, without a doubt was the Pernil. It's low and slow cooked for 24 hours and stupid good. You may think oh pork belly... it's fatty and not healthy. Whatever. The fat renders down while it cooks and what you are left with a juicy, flavorful best pork you've EVER had. The atmosphere at the bar was awesome. With the music, lighting, etc.. you feel like you're on vacation and not stuck in Louisville. New favorite place!

Churrasco Pepitos - Holy cow was this thing massive but packed with flavor! The steak was a little tough but otherwise absolutely delicious.

First time trying them at the new location in St Matthews and I hate to say, but I don't like it as much as I did before unfortunately.... It turned into more of a nicer, sit down table service like Bodeguita vs the casual, order at a register vibes at the nulu location. The location while good in some ways, is really bad in others. Parking is awful as it's unclear where you can and cannot park - Can't across the street or right next door apparently. Also, hours are worse in my opinion too as they are only open for dinner and cannot be open for lunch unfortunately. Again, goes away from the fast casual vibes of stopping in for a lunch to-go. I'm more of a fast casual guy and definitely prefer that over table service. Might not bother you but because of that, I definitely won't go as often anymore. Not to my surprise, the interior and vibes are still fantastic, lively, and well done. It's just like their old location but like 4 times bigger, plus an added bar as well. Because of the change in business model, they definitely raised prices across the board. I do appreciate the menu update/change and adding a bunch of new dishes compared to before, but it comes with some cons as well. I no longer can get just an arepa by itself anymore, they all are more expensive but do come with sides now. Sometimes I just want 2 arepas but can't do that now without spending $35+. The reina pepiada arepa was $11 at their old location (Looked up old yelp pics) and now it's $20 on the menu!! It does come with a side, but are you telling me a side is worth $9 now?! That's just insane but goes so show you when they change the type of restaurant it is, what they can get away with and charge...Absolutely crazy to me and a huge bummer. Don't get me wrong, the food is still absolutely delicious and the service you receive is always good. I know this review is just me being annoyed with the changes so take it all with a grain of salt and only as my personal opinion. I definitely still do recommend this place to anyone and I doubt you'll disappointed as it's still a top tier experience, I just really miss the old Senora Arepa....

Imma be honest I don't remember what I ordered but it was good. Good texture, lots of flavor, and a good portion size. I'm knocking the review down to four stars because the service took very very long. It took awhile to get a server to take the drink orders, and then we waited well over 45 minutes for the food. They had live music which was fun but they were blasting the music so loud you could not have a conversation with your table. Food though was outstanding so check this place out.

2nd visit here tonight! We came to sit on the patio. We loved that the doors were up and the almost entire restaurant had patio vibes with music playing. We started off with the guacamole and plantain chips which were very good! The chips were thin, crispy and pretty salty which I loved. The first time we visited we got 1 arepa and 1 cachapa to share but came back tonight for the cachapas! My husband got the pork cachapa and I got the chicken thigh and we both liked the chicken one better. I'd say the service was AMAZING the first time we came. The server said he was from Venezuela and was very passionate about their culture and food. He gave us great recommendations and tips for ordering and sharing. Tonight the service was not as great, but not bad.

Sorry can't recall the name of the dish but it's one of the flank steak options!

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while but waited due to hearing of slow service and hard to locate available parking. Finally, my gal pal and I decided tonight was the night and arrived right after the 5 p.m opening time. We were promptly greeted and seated and our friendly waitress gave us an overview of the menu and was happy to translate items and explain menu offerings. We decided on trying the first appetizer listed on the menu, at the suggestion of our waitress and wow! These mini bites pack a delicious comfort food punch, yum! Next time, we might not share! It took us awhile of googling menu items to decide to share a steak entree with sides. We'd seen two of this item being brought to other tables and it looked like a ton of food and figured it was a popular dish. We opted to share this main dish too. The flank steaks (while not my preferred cut of steak typically) were seasoned and delicious albeit a tad on the gristle laden side. The grilled onions and crunchy super thin potato straws that topped the steak provided great texture pop. The black beans, rice, & plantains were perfect accompaniments. The black beans tasted slightly sweet to us and were really delicious. We didn't order drinks this first time here but there was a wide variety to choose from on their drinks menu and we saw several that looked enticing at tables around us. Dessert menu had a few nice offerings but unless it's churros or tres leches cake I usually skip dessert and we skipped it here this visit. The manager (I'm assuming it's who this was) came by at end of our meal to ask how everything was and we had all great things to say. Really cool vibe, love the atmosphere & decor, & was excited to see a nice outdoor area for when we aren't under wind advisories or tornado threats! Being in the heart of St. Matthews, directly behind Trinity High School, parking (or lack there of & threat of car being towed) may scare some customers away but I hope this spot stays hopping busy and does well at this location!

What a fun place to check out! My friend from out of town came here with me and I haven't been there since it was located in nulu behind La Bodeguita de Mima. I remember getting virgin mojitos (I am not a big drinker), the sweeter plantain version and savory one with meat and it was so good!! And we even splurged and got the dessert.

I had never been to this restaurant. Our server was helpful and nice. The good was delicious. I had the chicken arepa. Beans are great too. And a really good margarita. The space is very cool and well maintained. Can't wait to come back.

I really enjoyed this Venezuelan restaurant. The drinks were on point and one of a kind. The service was very good. Our waitress was very attentive, no glass at the table was ever empty. I had the burger with everything on it, all of the flavors blended so well together.

Start the timer! Super busy night, we walked in at 7pmwithout a reservation to see every seat taken and told a 40 minute wait. We decided to stick it out and grab a seat at the bar when available. After 20 min we had just one table in front of us but we got that bar seat. +2 min: bartender took drink order. + 5 min: drinks served. Highly recommend the La cocada, it drinks like a horchata crossed with eggnog, and has the consistency of a mudslide! +10 min (7:28pm) food order taken: Pernil, and empanadas.. +25 min food served. (Missing silverware) 8:12PM asked for bill, bill arrived immediately and server walked off without taking payment. 8:25pm finally got the bartender to grab the payment. I've been to this restaurant five times and 4 of those 5 it's been perfect. This time the food was a bit dry but still very tasty. The flavors here are wild and can more than make up for some deficiencies in the outcome, so even an "ok" experience here is better than a good experience in many other places. You can't go wrong with any menu choice.

I have never had such creative and layer upon layer of flavor Tostones! Supreme! Large portions of everything.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant! We discovered it travelling from Nashville to Ohio. I would actually drive 3 hours just to dine there. Everything was perfectly cooked and the menu had much to choose from. We began with the Plantains and Guacamole. This was better than tortilla chips. It was freshly made and arrived at our table still warm and perfectly salted. We also had the Tostones Trio--of pork, shredded beef and Chicken. It was quite tasty! My husband had the Empanadas Trio. I don't know how they make their empanada pastry but it is fantastic! The best we have ever had! Our servers were quite efficient, attentive, kind, friendly and sweet. Awesome! They truly made us feel welcomed and spoiled. The decor was cheerful and the music lively ---it is truly a "happy place". There are a couple of places for photo ops outside . They have a great outdoor dining place/ Now the only thing that could make this restaurant better is if they would open a location in Franklin Tennessee!

5 stars for ambiance, 5 stars for courtesy but delayed service and bad food accounts for the 2 stars. I am saddened since Venezuelan food is amazing. We made a reservation for 3 for 8pm and they said that due to it being so full we had to wait 10-15 minutes. That became 30 minutes and that's because we insisted several times in the last 5 minutes. Sat down at 8:30pm, got drinks (2 margaritas and a guanabana juice) at 8:50. Then when we asked for food at that time (2 arepas and a pepito) we waited 45 minutes. They did give us a free appetizer for waiting though. The food, sadly, was not even that good. The pepito had all fries and 3 very small pieces of meat. The bread was rock hard and inedible. The sweet potato chips were ok I guess. The arepas, which in the past in their old location had been good, were average at the very best. We did eat them mostly because of hunger. Overall a bad experience and we think it was mostly due to the entire operation being relatively new and unaccustomed to high volumes. The fact that we saw like 5 different servers apologizing makes us think the slow link was the kitchen not being able to keep up. It was not only our table but several others that waited forever. I'm hoping it gets better in the future as their old place was a go-to for good arepas... but for now, it is hard to give it a good recommendation.

I am excited that this opened up in the St. Matthews area. I didn't get a chance to try it in nulu but now it is even closer to me. I went in a Sunday night which I was hoping would be not as busy but the restraint was packed. I was told that it was opening weekend ( I thought it opened weeks ago) but I was able to get a seat at the bar. It took awhile before I was asked if I wanted any water or even get a menu (reason for the 4 stars). Once I received the menus I selected the mango mojito for my beverage. They have a pretty nice size menu and the pricing is compared to the other restaurants like mojito in Havana. The inside is so nice! They have have an intimate outdoor space that opens into the main dining area, they can close the door when the temps starts to get cooler. It's a pretty nice size restaurant with lots of seating with both the indoor and outdoor open. There is even an area for to-go orders on the side of the building. I went with a plate option instead of trying an arepa. I will try that next time. My dish had pollo merchado, black beans, rice and plantains. It was a lot of food and so good. I can't wait to go back and try more.

Safrina Spritz cocktail $13 was DELICIOUS!

We were leaving for the second leg of our trip and were running late, as usual. We decided to run across the street for a sit down lunch, what's another hour? Two smiling faces greeted us at the door. They offered a high top but my hip was absolutely not digging it nor a table up the flight of steep stairs. Once seated, we were greeted promptly and had water in front of us almost immediately. We each ordered soup and then a sandwich to share. I had the Sopa de Pollo . A hot bowl thick with thin noodles and lots of chunks of chicken. The chunks were too big to eat without being cut up which was a challenge in a bowl of broth. It was so hot that I had to wait a while to try it and even then had to blow on it. It was delicious. Unless the soup is your meal, order a cup. I still took nearly a pint of soup back with me. My husband ordered the Frijole Negro - a huge bowl of black beans that was served with a large pile of raw onions on top. Like the chicken soup, it was burn your mouth hot and a very large serving. He said it was good but he'd not order it again. Moving on to the sandwich. We had the Cubano. I'm not even going to describe it - just trust me - order the Cubano. Do not look at the rest of the menu - order the Cubano. Don't even bother looking at the ingredients, just order the Cubano. Have you ordered it yet? Do it already. The Cubano is huge. We split one half and had the other when we arrived at our next stop. Do consider that we had soup first; otherwise, we'd have eaten the whole thing. The accompanying plantain chips were worthy of their own review. They were wonderful. Who knows if and when we'll be back to Louisville but when we are, La Bodeguita will be the first place we stop. BTW, have you ordered the Cubano yet? What are you waiting for? Put your phone done and order it! Enjoy!!

My husband discovered this place when he was perusing on Google Maps looking for something else. This was the happiest accident and I could not be happier we visited. I am from Venezuela and this is place is legit. They have foods that other Venezuelan places in the area don't offer, and varieties that are authentic and far better (the empanadas!!). I got the mandocas (plantain and corn horseshoe-shaped fritters), cheese and potato pastelito (like a cross between a pizza pocket and a pierogi, but better in every way), arepa pabellon, and a beef empanada. Everything was sublime. These empanadas are different than ones you may be used to, since they are corn based instead of wheat based, making them many levels better than you can imagine. It was very nostalgic experience. Even without the nostalgia, the food is that good, and so worthwhile heading over here. There's so much more on the menu I wanted to try. Guess I'll have to come back! The staff was wonderful, and the atmosphere inside was joyful, with beautiful murals. Highly, highly, highly recommend!

Hell, we're still sussing out the Colombian vs. Venezuelan arepa rivalry. But the arepa pabellon at Arrechissimo (this apparently means "awesome" in Venezuelan Spanish) wins the prize for us so far, and it's not even close. Even if it initially seems expensive at $13.50, it is a near-miraculous little food item, regardless of one's knowledge about arepas generally. It's perfect in its simplicity and greater than the sum of its parts: Wonderful white-corn flatbread style rolls with a great balance of fluffy and crisp, flavorful shredded beef, fried plantains, black beans, and melted mild cheese. Add the spicy cilantro salsa, which is just about perfect in its own right. By the way, despite its compact size, the arepa pabellon is plenty filling. Arrechissimo is just a food stand with maybe four outdoor tables. The setting in quiet Deer Park is pleasant and comfortable enough, when the weather is reasonably nice. Unfortunately for us, Arrechissimo is far enough away that carryout is not a suitable option during those too-many months when Cincinnati weather is not so nice.
