I had a small quick lunch here, shrimp ceviche and a margarita, both excellent. Such a colorful…read moreplace, really pretty. Bright colors everywhere, from the outside facade as I entered, to the chairs, tropical plants, the "Azucar!" mural with dangling vines, the dinner plates, the menu, and the food itself. My waiter Pedro was great, and checked on me frequently. In fact all the staff were great, neatly dressed in black, most wearing hats, making friendly greetings as I passed, holding doors, etc. Complimentary bread was brought. It was a good mini loaf, fresh and warm, and accompanied by two compound butters, guava and cilantro. I'm not a butter fan but I did try them for review purposes and they were interesting. The bread also helped extend my appetizer-portion ceviche, soaking up the spicy liquid. The ceviche portion was actually generous for the price and with the bread just what I needed for lunch. Medium-size shrimps in spicy tomato-lime sauce with cilantro, raw onions, micro-greens, and orange-yellow edible flowers on top. Served with tostones instead of the usual chips. These thick fried slices of green plantain were salty, soft in the middle and crispy on the outside, a perfect accompaniment. The outdoor covered patio area was packed with diners, loud with Cuban music in a good way, vines (plastic?) everywhere , chandeliers and straw lampshades on the ceiling, with large fans and a misting device controlling the heat. A small bird visited my table as I ate, politely sitting for a bit on the other chair. A comfortable place where you'd want to hang out a long while if you had the time, which I didn't. I also had a mojito, cold, minty, limey (real limes) and refreshing. A bit sweet to my liking but definitely strong. I love Cuban food, and I wish I could have tried more of the large and intriguing menu. I didn't even get a dessert, just an excellent Café Cubano without sugar (so an espresso really), served in an elegant Victorian-style gilded espresso cup and saucer (see photo). Chipped, but that just adds to the charm.

This was my first time ever trying Cuban food, and it was great!…read more We walked in on a Saturday around 4 PM and there was about an hour wait but we decided to just eat in the bar area instead. I ordered the shrimp appetizer, which was delicious but very garlic just in case you don't like that. And the vaca frita - everything was so delicious and I will definitely be back to try more things on their menu.

A longtime staple that continues to deliver!…read more The staff is always friendly, and that was especially evident during this visit when there was an issue with my dish. My wife and I ordered the same steak, prepared the same way--medium rare--but hers was incredibly tender while mine was unusually tough, sinewy, and difficult to cut, let alone chew. (those were my em dashes btw) After cutting into both steaks, it was clear they had been cooked properly, so this wasn't a kitchen issue. Sometimes a supplier simply sends an inconsistent cut of meat. What mattered was how the restaurant responded. The staff immediately offered several options: remove it from the bill, replace it, prepare another one to take home, or do whatever else was necessary to make sure I still had a great experience. That is the mark of a restaurant group that consistently "gets it" and truly understands its customers and community. The mezcal Old Fashioned is definitely worth trying if you enjoy a smoky drink. It isn't nearly as aggressively smoke-flavored as some of the "smoke box" Old Fashioneds served elsewhere. The mezcal gives it just the right amount of character and fits the restaurant's atmosphere perfectly. The beans, rice, and sauces were all excellent. The guacamole with plantain chips is practically a must-have. At this point, I've tried nearly the entire menu and have never regretted stepping outside my comfort zone. The next time you visit, try something you might not normally order and you may discover a new favorite. Kudos to the entire staff, especially Lisandra. And be sure to finish with the chocolate cake and ice cream!

Apparently there was a party of 30; I'm impressed by the kitchen that my food came out fast and delicious. There was live music and outdoor seating - with ample heaters all around for this brisk evening. The singer was great and allowed some small kiddos to dance and even hold a mic. Will definitely be back. PS, the cafe cubano was top notch.

We were a little disappointed with the lag of response time when we first sat at the bar area however....once we ordered the yucca cheese bites it transported me back to when I was living in So Cal eating the classic "Cheese on a Stick". I would come back just for these alone! We ended up having a few drinks, appetizers and a to-go order of two entrees but once we got home one of the entrees was missing a side. After calling the restaurant and speaking with Lorrena we were able to get a refund for our missing side. I absolutely love yucca mojo and was so looking forward to trying their version. Maybe this mishap presents a future visit to try what we were missed out of. Yet again, I'd go back simple for the yucca cheese bites! I would also like to add, pricing was exceptionally reasonable. I hope you all enjoy this place as much as we did, but when placing a to-go order; double check what you paid for before you leave. Gracias Loreena for rectify the situation.

Leave it to my family to find a Latin store in Kentucky. My cousin had to have his Cuban coffee,…read morenot an espresso. Lol. Well, this place had most of the Cuban staples like croquetas and pastelitos. They took advantage of ordering lunch as well for the trip. They ordered a croqueta preparada and a rabo encendido (ox tail) and they were very much enjoyed. I had a pastelito de carne (meat turnover). It was not like the ones in Miami but I could not complain since I was just glad to have a taste of home. They also had all kinds of Latin produce and ingredients. It was not so busy when we came in but it was packed when we left therefore check times to get in and out faster.

Because of that, the food was a little limited, most of the items they had out were nearing the bottom, and they didn't have many things out. Because of the lack of lack of options I decided to get the cubano sandwich, the tres leches cake, & a drink. The sandwich was massive. I ate one half and saved the other to give to my husband. I wasn't the biggest fan of the ham they used, but my husband liked it all the same. I was a fan of the bread! Not sure how they made it so good and crispy, but it was amazing. The sandwich itself was just okay. The tres leches cake. I really loved the icing (the pink one). The cake was good but I don't think it was moist enough. It was a two tier cake so perhaps that's the reasoning. I got the small one (about $7) and it was easily enough for 4 decent size servings. Overall a cute little local place & I can't wait to go back for bread and other desserts!

We ordered the DATILES RELLENOS (Roasted stuffed dates with Capriole goat cheese wrapped in apple wood bacon topped with smoked honey and piquillo sauce.) Honestly I preferred them without the sauce, they were that good on their own! Beef Empanadas, were very rich and filling. CROQUETAS DE JAMON Ham croquettes served with a Chipotle Aioli sauce for dipping. Again, I thought the sauce was unnecessary but to each their own! Italian Flatbread (grilled chicken, basil, tomato, mozzarella, pesto and garlic infused olive oil). By the time this arrived I was groaning from too much food so I only had a bite. But I can confirm it was just as good the next day as it was when I ordered it. Definitely need to come back again - sooner than 2036!

Next was dinner - Short Ribs, Ropa Vieja de Pollo, and tacos - one steak, one chicken. The guac was extremely fresh and outstanding, best I've had in a while. The empanadas are a staple and a must try, delicious. Short Ribs were tender and come with a side of mash potatoes, very good. My Ropa Vieja de Pollo was outstanding and the side of two tacos was on point. The steak taco was better than the chicken, would recommend getting the steak. It was so good I only remembered to take photo of the Short Ribs and Ropa Vieja. You have to check this place out if you are in town or just a regular Louisvillian. Service was great and the restaurant vibe was just what we needed.
