Real art in the window? ASU? Night reception on June 26th? We immediately agreed we had to come back. As we dressed up and got some white peach iced tea, it was all true-ASU has been able to secure a space in Tempe Market Place for everyone to enjoy. the space itself is huge with high ceilings and stretches farther back than I thought possible. The gallery director and MFA candidate Michael up front was very sweet and direct, telling us how this dream became a reality and the venue has been overly accomidating. There must be some good people at this malls since music has been a key feature with Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah!, Girl Talk and Rogue Wave have played here for free-and now amazing art?!? Anyway, the exhibit up now is based mostly on sculpture, with David Youngs mostly hollow 15 pound balls stealing the show, most with video cameras you can view at a desk with several alarm clocks ringing in at 12:51am. Damien Johnson had potted cacti cleverly sculpted to spell out Urban Sprawl. Victoria Altepeter had a beautiful assortment of trinkets while Lynette Anderson had a silver tray laser cut with to show silloutte of children with embrodery. I loved Jesse Armtrongs army of avocado mold porcelan creatures with rubber encased grass "arms", resembling jelly fish. Other sculptural pieced involed commentary on dogs and violence, cows and commodication of food, plastic and death, Brittney Spears, and giant bronze pieces. It was simply outstanding. They will be rotating a show every month, and are open Tuesday through Saturday 6pm-9pm. Brave the mall-there is a great reward for you!

The seating could definitely use an upgrade in every space. This would make a difference immediately and just on its own. The interactive rooms could use some support to hide the supports that create the structure for the display. Why? Seeing the display in certain ways detracts from being lost in the experience. I've been to a couple other exhibits like this and in at least one, the structure was hidden making it more immersive and 'trippy'. It's surprising to me actually, that in such a 'nice and fancy neighborhood' that the little things were lost. I won't go into the rooms much because it's better to experience in person. I love exhibits like this that are interactive and brain activating. They make you wonder and think.. we hence 'WONDER' spaces. Truly so unique and cool to see. *Maybe not worth nearly the cost. There's a variety of things to see, non the same. We sat in each room for min of 15 min with others being a little longer I think. She answered all of our questions and while we were not buyers on this visit but she told us about an upcoming artist show and meet and greet. We attended the event, which was first class. My wife and I were really taken in by the artist's story and work and the evening was awesome. We purchased one of his pieces and was asked if we could leave it there for the evening and pick it up at a later date. We also met the owner Michael that evening and he was very gracious and hospitable. When we returned to pick up our piece Christin pointed out another piece by the same artist and we added that and a table to our list of purchases. If you love unique, beautiful western art be sure to check out the Buffalo Collection. You'll fall in love like we did.

On the Edge Gallery is located in a old Town Scottsdale. Here you will find the works of many…read morelocal talented artists. They had a working artist who I had seen in the past in another gallery. This artists uses pyrography; an art technique using a burning tool to etch designs into wood. We spoke for several minutes about his techniques. Once he burns the wood, he then colors portions of the wood to enhance his design. Other techniques you will see are felting, Clay, painting, mixed media and jewelry. I stop by the Thursday Scottsdale Artwalk often and enjoy coming to this gallery. On the Edge…read moreshowcases a number of local artists around the Valley. Sometimes you can catch one of them crafting their work in person. On the Edge Gallery has been open since 2012 and displays artwork from over forty Juried AZ artists. I stopped in recently to see a friend's artwork on display here. The collection here at On the Edge is a nice mix of paintings, photography, sculpture, wood, glass, jewelry and mixed media. If you are ever at the Thursday Artwalk, there is a lot to see here.
