I had a good experience here - I came in and a woman, her name starts with a K in the skin section helped me to work with Jake to find a concealer and when I came back to the skin section, she was great about helping me find a particular solution - she recommended Dr. Jart's Ceramidin and it was a complete life saver - I am not sure what I would have done without her recommendation. I can see why people might not have had the best experience, it did feel at first that perhaps employees are sizing up whether or not they need to watch you or help you, it is a busy area, so I am sure they have had to deal with all kind of situations, there is a level of hyper awareness there. Jake helped me find the perfect concealer and was very nice and a complete joy to work with. He really has a passion for makeup and helping people, so I felt really good about what he found for me and he didn't oversell me or anything - it was like a friend was making sure you looked good with what you were looking for. The employees were great about letting you have your space and knowing when to step in and ask you if you needed help. The only thing that I would see that could need a bit of work is the checkout. The wait felt a bit extended and the employees at the register seemed overwhelmed, but they were definitely trying to push through to the end of the day, so I definitely can see why it seemed a bit impersonal. Overall, I feel like I went in looking for a couple of solutions and people helped me find them, so I recommend coming here, I definitely became a customer of a couple of new brands that I wasn't aware of before. read more

Always crowded, hard to flag down an associate and again extremely crowded. Then when I finally flagged down an associate she matched me with a color and instead of applying the makeup with a brush she used a cotton ball (WTF!) I asked why she didn't use a brush and she said she didn't have brushes. So your a make up professional (or whatever they call themselves) and you don't have brushes? I don't get it. So I get home, wash my face and reapply the make-up she suggested for me. I looked like a ghost! I was wayyyyy toooooo light. This is an issue I have with almost every Sephora I go to. The lighting is horrible! It looks ok while your in there and then you step outside looking like one of the zombies from the music video Thriller! After spending $177 in make up and not having anything match my complexion I was more than pissed. They happily refunded my money (plus one star). Aside from poorly trained make up technicians (or whatever they're called) , the lines are long and the cashiers take for ever to ring you up. I'm here like 2x a week (its not healthy) any who.. this place is great the customer service is awesome and they pretty much carry any line you're looking for. They have a huge skincare section as well. The music is always fun and puts you in the shopping mood (i guess they know what they're doing). A VIB or Rouge- whatever insider- shop at Sephora- ALOT. I had to return an item because the color of the foundation was not correct. First visit to return the sales associate was so rude, and just flat out told me the return was declined and to call this number. Very strange because I had purchased the foundation one week prior. I called the number- and the represtnative had NO clue what I was talking about and the numbers didn't match up. I went BACK to the store- and ISSA the sales associate at Brooklyn Heights on Court Street was even more rude- if possible- barely spoke up. Couldn't understand her- as she was mumbling. She grabbed my products chatted about other plans with another sales associate and mumbled to me that I can only get store credit. As this transaction was happening- another customer had come in, and said that he was harassed by Sephora Sales associates, and was very embarrassed because he was picking something up for his girlfriend- and was dressed in painting clothes- and the other women- Sephora sales associates were rude, refused to assist him. As this was happening- I was witnessing SEPHORA SALES ASSOCIATES LAUGHING AND SMIRKING AS HE WAS TALKING TO A MANAGER!!! I couldn't believe it. I was so embarrassed- I just took my store credit and left- even though I felt that I should have received my money back. I WILL NOT be back to this Sephora. I don't think I will be a Sephora customer any more as this is against how I like to shop. The staff is extremely rude, sloppy and they don't care about the look of the store, products on the shelves, or making the customers feel appreciated. I like this location. My first time visiting since it opened. Relatively low stress and not extremely busy like the Soho and 34th street locations. I was asked if I needed help from one person and allowed to shop in comfort. The woman at the register was extremely nice. Check out time wasn't long. Ended up becoming a VIB on this trip too! This is one of the best Sephora stores i have ever been to! Their shelves were STOCKED. The staff was beyond friendly, knowledgeable, and completely interested in the customer's needs, expertise, and making sure they got the products they needed in range of their price range. I had one of the best makeup stylists help me with everything from trying a new daily foundation to getting a fun red lipstick which I've never known how to really get. I usually don't review retail stores unless I've had a really good experience and I want to share or I've had a really bad experience that I want to warn people about. After I left this particular Sephora, I knew in my heart I wanted to share my experience here. I have a Beauty Insider card with Sephora and I was told that when it's closer to your birthday you can redeem a free gift at Sephora, so I decided to walk in, check out the new Sephora in Downtown Brooklyn and claim my free gift. I went in to browse around and a sales associate asked me if I needed help, so I told her that I wanted to redeem my birthday gift from Sephora since my birthday is next week so she pointed me into the cashier area to pick up the gift. She was very friendly and kind. After I picked up the gift, I continued to browse around the store sniffing the rollerballs and perfumes. Minutes later, the same girl that assisted me walked over and gave me three miniature perfume samples in little sephora bags and even labeled which each perfume was. It was very nice of her and I was totally blown away by the customer service/treatment I received because I mean that's excellent customer service right there. She went out of her way knowing it was my birthday and decided to give me a few samples to try out. I ended up picking up a DKNY rollerball and ended up coming out of Sephora with more items than I imagined. This Sephora is a little small compared to the others I've been too, but the people are super nice and friendly. I can definitely see myself coming back here in the future. read more

Great service! I went on a Saturday morning to take advantage of the Triple Points Fragrance sale. The store wasn't crowded at all and the staff was friendly and helpful. I was able to try different products without feeling rushed or pressured to buy. I went into the perfume section and the guy working there was patient and accommodating. He graciously let me try as many perfume scents that I wanted more than once and offered great recommendations. My only con is that the despite the store being open for a few hours the tester stations that house sponges, mascara wands, lipgloss testers were mostly empty. I had to go to the Beauty studio and grab what I needed from there. This Sephora is awesome and Brooklyn's first, hopefully not our last. read more

My last three experiences here have left me wishing I either shopped online or made trip to SoHo, Meatpacking, Financial, Flatiron, or Times Square. I've shopped at Sephora since literally 1999 or earlier when their flagship first opened on Broadway. Although that location is now a painful reminder I have outgrown their main demographic I don't mind the crowds of teens doing their makeup as that is what makes Sephora so unique- being able to play and explore products. Not at this location. Each visit recently within five minutes literally 4-5 reps beeline towards me aggressively. After declining they either reply rudely or hover as if I might suddenly pull an Ice Storm and pocket a lipstick or something. Looking up a product review on Sephora's site also seems to inspire severe disapproval. All of this creates a distracting experience. It's also a bit unfun that as a VIB, I've never once been given samples and on last visit had to ask how many points I had- strangely despite spending about $100 points weren't added so I left with 490 pts the same balance as my previous purchase there= weird All of above aside, selection is so so- they don't seem to carry full lines. Sorry Sephora, I love your innovative service model that makes shopping with you feel fun, rewarding etc but this one makes Home Depot more inspiring. read more

It's clean, a bit crowded but the young ladies are very attentive to your needs.I prefer taking charge though and trying on my own products...they provide mirrors and all your supplies so I choose my items and head to the line. I'm a VIB member and shop at Sephora weekly. For the most part I've had good to ok experiences at the locations I've visited, except for this location. Twice I've encountered rude customer service from two different associates. On March 13th i went in to shop around and had a question. I approached an employee who had her headset on and I didn't realize she was speaking to someone on the other end. I tried to get her attention THREE times and she finally looked at me and loudly and rudely said 'can you wait?' I was taken aback by the way she spoke to me, I just walked away. Who hires these uneducated people? SEPHORA You can do better. I've spent hundreds of dollars to get treated like this. I didn't catch her name but she is probably Latina, she's definitely heavy set with glasses and some kind of purplish hair. I wasn't able to find a manager that complain right away. The cashiers were nice, but that woman is horrible. I will be emailing and calling Sephora until something is done about this. read more

I was so excited that a Sephora opened up in Brooklyn! The crazy thing is that it is pretty well stocked; it even carries higher end brands such as Dior, Dolce & Gabbana Guerlain, and even mid range brands such as the relatively new Marc Jacobs beauty, Lancome, Nars, and etc.. Another cool thing is that they have a wide variety of foundation shades for most brands. The location is well chosen except for that is attached to the "Municipal Building Brooklyn" o_O ... yeah most people probably pass it without even knowing. The MUA's/SA's are very helpful and friendly. I asked for samples of a couple of products and was kindly given them. I will definitely purchase from here instead of going up into the city. read more

Hit or miss! I came here to get a custom makeover before an important event. The woman assigned to my custom makeover was so incompetent. She had another makeup artist do my brows and then she proceeded to attempt my makeup. I showed her a picture of the look I wanted and she said okay. The color she choose for my foundation was way too light and she didn't know how blend it properly. My neck and face were a different shade. She didn't even come close to replicating the eye makeup!! I asked her to apply false lashes... That was a big mistake. After failing to get a coworker to do them for her, she decided to give it a try. She took about 20 mins as she attempted to apply them. She actually told me that it was the first time she applied lashes. How do you work at Sephora doing Custom Makeovers and not know how to apply lashes?! My lashes literally fell off 10 minutes later. I actually had to return them which was a waste of time. I will never come back to this Sephora!! read more

I wanted to come in today to get color match for a new foundation since I got a bit of color. Usually with my Sephora experience all the sales associate are busy with clients. I just wander around and got distracted with the lip glosses. When I was swatching the lip glosses I turned my head to the left was when I met Chris Cen a personal beauty advisor. I kid you not, I couldn't ask for anybody better. He was so personable, knowledgable and patience. He asked questions about what I'm looking for in my make up AND skin care routine. With me being a make up noob I didn't know how to put on a few products. But he was so patience and stood next to me and taught and showed me on how to put them on. In the end, I walked out the store with more than just a foundation but to me was worth it. If you do stop by the Sephora in downtown Brooklyn please ask for Chris. He will give you such a pleasure experience you will not forget. read more

I agree with many of the other reviews here. The store is usually messy, you have to practically beg to find anyone to help you and half the time it comes with a side of attitude. They offer the 1:1 personalized beauty makeovers for 90 minutes, it is not inside a beauty studio - it's at a table right outside with the crowd. Umm one of the biggest perks of being a Rouge member is having unlimited custom makeovers, way to discourage people from using that "perk". Because doing your makeup in a crowded store with people walking all around you and sometimes people even "borrow" the brushes since they think it's for general use when the makeup artist walks away is not the experience most people want. What a mad house. I've been a long time customer of Sephora's but frankly will not be shopping with them anymore since their rewards program is a joke. You have to save up 100 points (aka spend 100 dollars) to get a single deluxe sample. I have 1400 points in my accounts and I have no idea how I am going to use it since everything they offer is... cr@p. You go to any high end department store like Saks/Nordstrom/Bloomies and spend $100, you will be getting free gifts and more samples than you can carry. Heck even Macy's carries Clinique and offers TONS of free gifts and perks when you buy $50.00 worth of products. Makeup/Skincare samples should be pre-packaged and sealed. It is extremely unhygienic to make samples for your customers from the store testers. Whenever I ask the store employees if they would ever use a store tester product on their own face, the answer is always a NO! Rouge members are supposed to have a private concierge hotline? Nope - lies, it routes to customer service since "not enough people used the dedicated Rouge hotline". So I'll be taking all my business to Saks/Nordstrom/Bloomingdales/Amazon and Ulta now since they stock all of the same products and often for less. It is such a shame since Sephora is convenient, but when they do not care about the customer experience from a store level to the corporate level - it's time to be someone else's customer. read more

Back in college, I purchased a cheap eyebrow pencil in the blackest black known to man and proceeded to draw in my eyebrows like Cleopatra, as if I were a 4-year-old run amok with a coloring book. Yes, weird looks and laughs abounded, and rightfully so. Thanks, BFF. ;-P Fast forward many years later, I sauntered into this new Sephora determined to finally rid myself of stumpy brows. The few associates that were on the floor were busy, but I flagged down a nice lady who suggested Anastasia's waterproof Dipbrow pomade in dark brown. She then showed me how to properly apply it. She even gave me a pop quiz, making me fill in the other one myself as she watched. Now, before I make any cosmetics purchase, whether at a drugstore or Sephora, I consult Paula Begoun's Beautypedia website. The product the Sephora associate selected was listed in one of Paula's "best" products list. Bam! Luscious Brooke Shields brows circa "Endless Love" and Calvin Klein jeans ad, here I come. I made my way to the fast-moving checkout line and left a happy camper. FYI, even in the sweltering heat, my new brows were still perfect when I got home hours later. Just went on Sunday because it's discount time! Went on a Sunday around 7pm, and it was not crowded at all. A few staff members helped- offered a shopping basket, helped me look for a specific lipstick, and offered advice. The cashier even gave me a free makeup bag and samples without me asking. I work in downtown Brooklyn, and I often come to this Sephora on my lunch break or whenever I need a breather from the office. It's easy to navigate, and I've observed that it becomes less crowded the further back you go into the store, near the skin care. As it's already been mentioned, this location is less crowded compared to other locations (namely SoHo), and it provides a less chaotic shopping experience. Everything always looked stocked (except for that one time there were no BeneFit Porefessional in the display). I love Sephora SoHo and will no doubt still frequent that Sephora, but it's nice to have a Sephora in BK now. Similar to Sephora SoHo, a MAC Cosmetics store is nearby (on Montague), in case you get tired of Sephora and need something that only MAC provides, and vice versa. The customer service has been good. I've often gotten a lot of generous samples of skin care products (You don't want to spend a lot of money on things that may ultimately break you out). The employees at the register like to make small talk about the items you're purchasing, and each time I've been asked if I wanted to use my rewards points for a free gift. I always wait. As far as makeup goes, I've never had issues with not being able to return items. In one night, I went to Sephora SoHo, bought two NARS blushes, got on the train, had buyer's remorse, got off the train at Jay Street, walked to Sephora BK, and got a refund. Easy peasy. This location will always have a place in my heart because it's where I hit VIB status! read more

I've been an avid Sephora shopper for years but this review is needed. I went there friday with my mom to get some exfoliant and moisturizer. I was checking thru the aisles and my mom went the other way to browse and look around. Now, my mom's English is not that good so I thought she was gonna be waiting for me by the door while I get my products. When I finished paying I found this tall lady helping her find her foundation match, she was so sweet to my momma I wanted to squeal. Then a makeup artist, Elizabeth, did a quick makeover and explained in spanish everything she was doing, I was super happy with the whole experience and my mom as well. Only 4 stars because when I got to the cashier I asked for a gift only for VIB members and the cashier was like "we don't have it yet" so I asked a male clerk and he went and got it for me :)! The first girl I've approached was pretty useless but the other one did her job as well as the guy working at skincare section (which offered me a sample of a product I wanted to try before purchasing). If you're struggling to match their different products to your skin tone ask them to use a digital device (color IQ thing) for you. I had the best experience in this Sephora. I had gotten the Fenty foundation about a month ago from a different Sephora, but the nozzle on top had broken, making it impossible for me to use without completely removing the top. I worked right near this Sephora so I brought it in to see if they could fix it for me - instead, the manager said they would completely replace it, and gave me her name and instructions as to how I could do this at the register. I also was looking for new mascara so I asked an employee for a recommendation - she pointed me to what is now my favorite mascara and took the time to explain to me why people like it / why it's the best brand, etc. I so appreciate good retail service, and it makes me want to come back and support the store. Yes, it's expensive. Their makeup is quality. Quality that I truly enjoy. Not just their makeup products, but also their other products such as soaps, body lotions, butter and shower gels. They also have a men's section (a lot of cologne). I'm honestly super stoked to have a Sephora in Brooklyn. The customer service was very helpful, and despite being the exact day after my birthday, I received a free birthday gift because I joined their loyalty club. One downside is that I had a VERY hard time finding the colours I want. Because of my skin tone, I mostly wear brown's and plum coloured lipsticks. I finally found two that I liked. When I got home and opened the box to one, it was RED! I thought it was brown because the display for it was brown. Very disappointing, but it ended up looking nice on my mom, so I gave it to her. The plum coloured one I bought is NICE. It makes my lips pop but not over exaggerate. I will be returning to Seph for all of my beauty needs. read more

Oh, yay, a Sephora in Brooklyn! Sometimes I hate going to Manhattan for everything and I hate going online to buy things and getting hit with shipping and tax when things are just over the bridge. The location is great, right near a train station and a bus stop and across the street from Starbucks. Coffee and makeup. Who needs much more? I do, actually. I need better service as a paying customer. The customer service seems to be lacking majorly. I was looking for a foundation match and while the store wasn't packed or crowded, it seemed like there were only a few assistants on shift which meant lots of waiting around for help. I had asked three assistants who walked by with no customers in tow for help and got lines that they were busy doing something else. One told me she was in the midst of writing something down, another told me she was going down to the stock room, and the other... he just glanced at me like I was speaking dog. Okay, sir. Rock on. Enjoy your paycheck for doing nothing at all. It got to the point that another lady who was standing next to me at the Beauty Studio waiting for help made a comment that I need to literally hound them and grab them for help which made me laugh because I told her I already asked three people. Should I tackle them to the floor, yelling that I need a foundation that matches me? It was also funny because she was waiting for help for as long as I was so I'm unsure if she took her own advice. I finally got one associate who was passing by to help me. Even though she too claimed she was going to the stockroom, she paused to ask me which brand I was looking for (good thing I already had one in mind) and helped me find a shade. After that, she gave me a sample and then disappeared. Problem was, I wasn't finished shopping yet so I had to fight again to get another associate. This guy looked at me as if I was insane when I told him I wanted a full coverage foundation. He literally widened his eyes and went "Are you sure?" Yeah, I'm sure. Me and all my acne scarring are definitely sure we want what we want. I found it a bit rude of him to assume I didn't know what I was talking about and if he felt that way, why didn't he gently suggest I find something lighter and talk to me about concealers? You'd think they'd try their best to make people buy more. With my samples in tow (the guy seemed to be really cheap with the sample I asked for, by the way), I grabbed an eyelash curler and headed out of there. I was asked at the register if I had BI status which I said no to and I guess I expected her to try and sign me up for something, but nope. This is probably the most understocked Sephora I've ever been to, & Ive been to a lot in NY and out of state & country. Don't expect to find 90% of new, hot releases in this store. Fenty Lip Stunna? No. Fenty Bomb Baby set? No. (Sales guy sounded like he hasn't even heard of it LOL) Kind of messy too, as far as product placement. Oh, and no one approached and asked me if I needed any help. The cashier did not even apologize after completely screwing up my very simple return. The manager or head cashier (not sure) helped her and unfudged everything but again, without a smile or a sorry. This is how VIB Rouges get treated here apparently smh. One weak plus: the girl on the floor seems more or less happy to make me 2 samples of products. But even that...there are only 2 sales associates in the "makeup world" area so you have to look around and hunt them down.... In short, this particular store needs better management all around to oversee and fix all these issues. read more

I am not your average male. I take immense pride in my appearance and skincare is a must for me, and it should be considering my profession. I was unashamedly thrilled when this Sephora opened since BLS is on the same block. A fan of colognes, hand lotions and other skincare products, this was great news. This is a smaller location than most and as it's still relatively new, it doesn't carry everything that the manhattan locations do. It was explained to me that the company wanted to get a good feel for the clientele and what they purchase before expanding the selection. It's been more than enough for me though. The men's fragrance selection is small, so I haven't been able to try the latest but my regulars are always in stock (Burberry Brit Rhythm, YSL le'homme, Givenchy Play Intense.) If you're a gal, you'll enjoy their selection since it's obviously more catered toward y'all than it is to me. read more

I went to the beauty studio for a ummmm "makeover" for pics... However I was made under. It was lackluster, less than enthralling and I looked unappealing. For my wasted hour I was there I could have done the job myself. I really was looking for a wow effect and maybe set my standards too high on the job they could have produced. It was hard to find assistance from a store associate and when I did, they were lazy and gave attitudes. The experience didn't end there because the cashier had to bring it to a home run for the lazy base by not even entering a coupon code when I gave her a phone and requested a barcode. I'm excited to see this downtown! I've been here a few times and I've found each experience to be great. It's never too crowded, I can get help if I need it but I'm not hounded and I think they have a nice selection of brands and products. I had to return something without the box (but I had a receipt) and they didn't give me any hassle at all. The artist at first said she didn't have time (even though there was no one there) but eventually she was like "okay, I will do it". But, usually, the service is top notch and sales rep go out of their way to provide assistance with a smile (yes! reps that smile still do exist!). This is a really solid Sephora. The stars are for Elmyra (our stylist) who color matched my mom with such patience and was really knowledgeable about makeup for people with darker complexions. She beat the Color IQ system and found my mother's perfect match, which just goes to show you that technology can't replace expertise. I took off a star because, being that this location is in Brooklyn, many of the darker shades were not in stock, but you do get free shipping if you order at the store so that's nice. It is also really hard to get a stylist during non-peak hours, which is kind of unfortunate. I would say to come here, but be very patient. read more
