The store is very clean and well stocked with products. The makeup artists are amazing. Jennifer is extraordinary. She's outgoing, friendly, personable and a very skillful make up artist. I was shopping for new lipstick and a lip liner yet I learned how to highlight. So not only did a find a new matte lipstick, I learned a new skill. How to effectively contour. Jennifer your amazing girl. Thank you for making this a humorous, educational make up shopping spree. Your customer service is 1st rate plus you went above & beyond without even thinking twice. Very poor customer service indeed. Came in last Saturday, 4/8, looking for my shade of foundation at bare minerals section. There was no sample shade ,so I checked one of the boxes of the foundation, this sales associate called my attention and said u are not supposed to open those, she made a rude look at me and walked away .. she shld have helped me instead finding the right shade. F R U S T R A T I N G I had my boyfriend come in to Sephora with the color that I currently have. I told him to ask the girls there specifically to show options of foundation that is good for dry skin in a similar shade to that color. The girl he speaks with recommends one brand that is a "matte" foundation. Matte foundation is not good for dry skin. She proceeds to tell him that this is the "only brand that comes to her head for dry skin". I literally went to that same Sephora months ago and was recommended a variety of different brands. That girl obviously does not know much about foundation. He was then being told that they need me there to check the colors to match my face. WHY would you need me to be present when you can just pull out the CURRENT color I use that YOU CARRY and match a foundation with that?!?!?! I come to Sephora to buy my makeup. I needed eyeliner as I go through my eyeliners fast. I use them everyday. I love the Sephora brand. It's a little less expensive than the brand names here. I received my birthday free makeup. I chose the tarte lipstick that came with a blush. Small size but free for your birthday month. I accumulated 500 points on my Sephora insider membership. The more points you earn the more towards free gifts. I'm allergic to beeswax so I avoid name brands such as Urban Decay which makes me swell up. I tend to stick to natural makeup without the harsh chemicals. The ladies here completely ignored me but that's okay cause I'm pretty much an expert to makeup and know what I want. One lady actually asked me if I needed help. I told her no. The ladies working here just passed me by without asking me for help. I love makeup and love shopping here. Went in to this location wondering if maybe someone could help me pick out a facial cleanser or day lotion to lighten my facial skin tone. As a man it is difficult to choose the right product in an immense sea of choices especially when most are pushed to women so a little guidance goes a long way but no one really approached me to see if I needed help. The only one who did was a guy who assumed by the color of my skin that I only spoke Spanish. I know this because he turned to someone who looked caucasian and spoke English and asked if she needed help. Sephora stores have always been top notch on their services. This store kind of made me question this. (From the Bay to SoCal LA, busy or not, this was a first.) For some reason, couldn't find anyone free and open to ask for help, nor was I asked if I needed anything after browsing around for about half an hour in the skincare session. Came here on December 16 for my 1:30 appointment and was greeted and seen right away. Mabel was my makeup artist for the day and she was as sweet as anyone could be! I've never had my makeup done here before and wanted to give it a go since it was my birthday and thought it would be a fun thing to do. The moment I told Mabel that it was my birthday she gave me a hug and wished me "happy birthday" which was sweet of her. I had no idea really of the look I wanted but did show her a few photos I liked and told her what my outfit was and the look I was going for. I also let her know that I am not that great at doing my own makeup and that I would be watching what she was doing to pick up some tips/skills haha. As soon as we spoke more about what I had liked and what I was wearing she went off to get the products she would be using, throughout the entire process she explained to me what she was using and why. She was very informative and very much passionate about what she does. She was focused and a perfectionist which is perfect in this field! Throughout the time I was there her coworkers would pass by and compliment her on her blending skills and how amazing she did my eyebrows! When I was finished I was honestly so happy with the outcome! (I would have cried with how happy I was with it, but she probably would have killed me if I ruined her amazing jobs! Haha) Honestly, it was the best experience I could have asked for! Mabel is definitely the reason I will be coming back to this store in particular as well as coming her for any services I may need that they can help with. I have been a loyal Sephora-Otay Ranch customer for over 10 years and like others have said customer service has gotten WORSE. I suspect that many new employees don't have a background and are just store associates. In the past, many of the employees were makeup artists and had extensive knowledge about their products. I rarely returned any products but now I find myself returning "recommended" products. Either the foundation didn't match or they were in a hurry to take the time to help or maybe they didn't have experience. At any extent, Sephora is losing customers because they are lacking customer service and training new hires. Also, in my last two visits I have felt that they are trying to sell "Charlotte Tilbury" products to me. I get a feeling that they are getting commission out of it but I am tired of being recommended this brand. I miss the old days when I could spend hours in the store and learning from professional makeup artists. Now, I am going to give Ulta a chance after my bad experiences at this and other Sephora location. No wonder Sephora is losing brands! read more

I just walked out of Sephora. Leaving behind the items I was going to purchase. I attempted to pay with a $50.00 bill. The cashier ran a yellow marker and i guess it did not respond according. She called another female, who conducted the same yellow marker process. I assume it failed the test. She told me the system did not accept my $50.00 bill and if I had another form of payment. I asked her if she was going to return the bill to me. She said yes. The assertion is- it is a counterfeit. I asked her why would she return it ? If she thinks it's counterfeit she needs to call law enforcement. She said that was not the case. Really so at random you decide what form of payment I should is? And if it is counterfeit you as a company have a duty to call law enforcement. I would welcome it. You can't pick and choose. If it's counterfeit, it is counterfeit and I have committed a crime. You must call law enforcement. Just to deny me is not right. They said I could use another form of payment- but no thanks. Reason I gave 1 star. I have never had an awful experience with Sephora until today. At first, I went to the Sephora at Fashion, but I have no complaints. I was helped by a guy named Juan, and he was very helpful and sweet from the moment I walked into the store. Unfortunately, they didn't have the product I need, and neither did the JCPenny Sephora. Instead, I went to this location, which is close to where I live, where I had the most unpleasant experience. First and foremost, I pretty much go to this exact Sephora all the time because of how close it is to my house. I think that'll be ending now unless it's a complete emergency--I doubt that, though. I wasn't greeted, and I guess that's okay since I had just entered the store, but 15-20 minutes later, and still no acknowledgement. Basically, I was in the store for almost 30 minutes with no assistance. I knew exactly what I needed, but what I needed wasn't out on the floor--that's why I needed someone, so they could check their stock for me either on the floor (it would've been rude if I looked at their stash myself, who does that) or in the back. Within the first 5 minutes I asked someone for help and she said, "One moment. I'll get someone to help you, I'm with a customer" and on her radio/walkie talkie/in store mic she called for someone to assist me. 10 minutes later I'm still not getting help. I ask another worker, she responds with, "Yeah no problem, let me get someone to help you" and calls on her radio/walkie. Minutes and moments later I asked a THIRD employee who does the same thing. I'm waiting for the longest time, and finally, what feels like years later, is me getting help. No luck at this Sephora either, but I just ended up getting something else that was similar. I've been to this Sephora multiple times and I have never experienced such a horrible time. Today, they were exceptionally busy, but that doesn't excuse the fact that I'm a pissed off looking customer who doesn't want to hear the same thing 3 times without being attended to. At the FV location, it's always packed, but they manage to not let customers leave the store without being spoken to. The main reason why I give this place two stars as opposed to one star is because the girl who helped me was sweet. She apologized for the wait, and I remember her helping me before. Okay the staff here is SO HELPFUL. Especially with the COVID regulations - you can't swatch anything yourself. But they walk around and offer to do it for you and help you find the right color. Everytime I come in here, they go above and beyond to be helpful and they don't make you feel like an idiot for not knowing much about makeup lol. Walked in, was never greeted by any associates. I walked around aimlessly for about 5-10 mins trying to find the items I needed. Finally was able to to locate the products I was looking for and proceeded to check out. Was never greeted by the cashier and was just told my total. I had to ask what promotion items were available for my shopping points, and was told to just look to see what I wanted. However the cashier did assist me with an issue I was having with my Sephora credit card not being activated. Sephora has all the beauty essentials! This Sephora location is in the Otay Ranch Center, in Chula Vista. Overall the store is clean, bright, and organized. The service was average/decent, it didn't stand out like other Sephoras where somebody might greet you or offer help.. which is cool if you like having your space to peruse the store. I only encountered a worker and was helped when I was paying at the register. This is your typical Sephora carrying their brand and other designer brand makeup and fragrances. I've only been to this location once. I was just trying to kill time with the boyfriend and I decided to go in while he went into the Apple store a little bit down the way. I will say that I had a pretty good experience here. Right when I entered I was greeted by someone by the door. I walked around a bit and someone greeted me again and handed me a basket while I walked around. After being in a section for a little bit I also had another associate ask if I had been asked about being helped and if not if he could help me. This store is well organized, clean and well stocked. It was pretty busy, but I believe I had a bunch of people try to help me out and make sure that I was doing ok. I will probably stop by this store again if I'm in the area. read more

I came in today with my sister to look around and ended up buying a few things. The employees were HOVERING over my sister and I. I'm talking like every thirty seconds, the same employees would come up to us and ask if we needed help with anything. Asking once or twice is helpful and considerate, but anything beyond that is annoying. Coming from retail, I understand that this is a tactic to get people not to steal, and these people are just doing their job, but come on. Its also a little offensive to feel like maybe they thought I was going to steal. It's so unnecessary to have multiple people hovering over you while you're shopping. It honestly ruined my experience and made me very uncomfortable shopping there. Furthermore, when I was walking out of the store, three employees were gossiping through their microphone sets with headphones so they didn't have to talk loud. I probably go here once a week to check out new stuff. I love how I'm greeting as I come in and get to play around with different makeup and even try samples. When I ask for a sample - no hesitation - they are so helpful in finding alternatives especially when they are out of stock. Everyone is friendly and even talk to my girls when they are with me...putting lip gloss and all. I like how they ask if I need help with anything even if at first I didn't when I walked in. All the associates look naturally beautiful and some have the glamorous makeup too...so it gives me the impression that some of them have different styles and makeup preferences. I noticed that if an associate doesn't fully know which product is comparable to another - they simply ask their manager or another associate and they both help in finding the product that is right for me. I have to agree with the Yelp review that Dee gave- horrible service at this location. I recently moved to this area and was so excited that there was a Sephora store less than 5 minutes away from me. How that quickly changed. I visited several times and got horrible, HORRIBLE service. Mind you, I am a former sales girl / store manager and I know what is expected of sales employees and I was very displeased. Being that I have a sales background I am always willing to cut stores breaks, because I know there are days when you're short staffed for whatever reason (someone calls sick, not enough payroll, shipment... ) but I visited this store on more than three occasions and never got so much as a "hello" from anyone. And when I did need assistance looking for a new product I was asked "did you look"!! WOW, really?! There were 7 other people in the store, 1 was with me and 4 were employees!! Do the math- there were enough of you to help me- that's your job!!!! After that third experience I contacted management via corporate email and complained and was told they would quickly correct the issue. Since they didn't know who I was I returned about a week later with a girlfriend who needed some replenishments to see if it had in fact changed. NOPE!! Now I travel a few extra miles to Fashion Valley or Plaza Bonita for my Sephora needs- stores that I know appreciate my business!! This Sephora has improved so much in recent months. I've been coming here since they opened their store so I've seen a slew of employees and I can say that their current staff is incredibly sweet and attentive. I always prefer coming to this location instead of Fashion Valley because it's much less busy and the store feels more open. Although this store is laid out much better, they don't carry all the products that you'll find at the Fashion Valley store. Some of the niche brands like Milk Makeup and Ouai haircare are not available here (at least not yet). There's also no Lancôme makeup in this location, just in case any of you were wondering. Apart from that I find that their selection of makeup is amazing! They have everything you could ask and I find that everything is well stocked. If you're unsure about purchasing something then get a sample, they're always very generous about their samples here. You can get up to 3 samples per area (that would be makeup, skincare, and fragrance). I've come here multiple times to just browse and ask for samples of things that I've been considering purchasing and the staff has been nothing but helpful. It's because of that kind of customer service that I've actually purchased full sizes of the things I get samples of. This is a great Sephora location to visit if you don't like dealing with bigger crowds and actually want that one on one attention from the staff. read more
