I really like this Sephora. The selection isn't what you would find in Manhattan, but it has most of what I'm looking for. The sales staff are great. This store is eternally, severely understaffed, so snatching up a sales associate for help is kind of like playing Hungry, Hungry Hippos, but when you are able to grab the attention of someone, they are always helpful, friendly and patient even though they're usually in the middle of doing ten other things. read more

I loved getting my makeup done here for a wedding. I called and made an appointment. The actual session is free as long as you spend $50 or more in the store, which is totally worth it because you can buy what ever products you want not the ones necessarily used on your face. My makeup artists name was Stacey she was super nice, actually everyone at the store was. i explained to her my event she gave me ideas that would go nice with my dress and I agreed, it took her over an hour but she made sure my makeup was flawless, even after dancing all night and sweating, my makeup looked amazing. Kept getting compliments all night. I chose to buy the lipstick she used on me and a few hair products since most of the stuff she used on me were things i wouldn't use often and weren't worth buying since makeup expires. I loved the moisturizer she used on me and would recommend the process to anyone. I ended up spending more than $50 but for the work Stacey did on me plus the products i got to take home, it was more than worth it. You don't need an appointment for a quick makeup process like getting eyes lips or even foundation, but you do need one for the whole makeup session which includes consultation. Since i needed my makeup done on a Sunday i was glad i made an appointment because the store was packed. read more

I live in the neighborhood and walked by and I noticed that there was some kind of class going on in the window. I walked in and stood to the side listening. When one of the teachers, Wendy noticed me, she asked me if I wanted to participate in their winged eyeliner class that was just starting. They made me feel so welcome! Cece gave us some tips and tricks and overall it was a great experience. I didn't know that Sephora does these classes, but I know I'll be back. They took down my information and told me that as soon as they have a new class, they'd call me and ask me to join. Jason is amazing! On numerous occasions I tried my best to come in Sephora to receive help with my everyday look. I work nearby and was inspired by how he does his makeup on the daily basis. Although i couldn't come on times I stated prior to today, I came 15 mins before closing, and he did not rush in showing me amazing products for my day to day wear. The saleslady was ultra-helpful when I went to replace the concealer that was stolen with the rest of my purse. I didn't like the first one I tried, and she suggested a different Clinique item since it was easier to apply, and didn't look as dry on my skin. Looking to upgrade from my Cover Girl blush, I asked her about Nars' blushes, and she very skillfully applied their best-selling color, to my delight. Watch out for the yuppy, moneyed Forest Hills ladies, especially on a sale weekend. I did save $6.00 (15%) off my purchase though. Not many chairs in here, so it's hard to have make-up applied, especially if you're 8 inches taller than the saleslady :) read more

Disappointing experience on several visits. The color selections are always disorganized in every brand area and the testers often are unavailable. Cleanup stations are always low on supplies and makeup sponges. The whole point of Sephora is to test and self serve. Low supplies at the station forces people to crowd at the Beauty Studio getting in the way of makeup applications. It is very odd that all the foundations and concealers in every brand never have the colors for anyone with melanin in stock. The very few and far between colors that they do "carry" are constantly out of stock and never seem to get replenished. The selection is clearly skewed for availability to light or white complexioned customers and this was not the case last year. Based on what some of my less-melanin sisters and partners in cosmetic love have told me, the lighter color products are now rarely in stock and the staff knowledge of brands are limited to about 2 brands on a good day. Staff seem to be lightly experienced in matching lighter complexioned customers and those are the only products available in greater quantities the store. My rating of experience and skill is subpar at best which is evidenced in other reviews. I am appalled that upper management has not performed an evaluation and made necessary adjustments. I as well as 6 other customers with medium to dark complexions have been told "we dont have your color", is this 1953? read more

This is the WORST Sephora. I came here for a makeover with an appointment. I came 15 minutes early, and had to practically flag down a worker to tell her I was here for my appointment. She barely nodded and then walked away. No one else came to talk to me, so when it was actually time for my appointment, I flagged another worker down. She told me to sit and wait. I waited for 10 minutes until the original worker came back and mumbled about how she would be my makeup artist. I told her I was on a schedule, and she informed me that she would have to clean all her brushes first. She spent about 15 minutes cleaning her brushes. My 45 minute makeover turned out to be an hour and a half. Plus, she put on my lipstick crooked (I had to reapply on the way to my event), and drew in my eyebrows without asking me if I wanted that done. Completely unprofessional. I tend to be very intimidated by the larger Sephora locations...I mean, it can be hard to retain your sanity while navigating through 500 shades of eye shadow spread over 25 brands to find the perfect velvety plum color at a reasonable price, all while skirting over-eager salespeople and blinking against the ultra-bright fluorescent lighting. That's why I like this one: it's big enough to have what you need, but small enough that you feel you are in control of your shopping experience. The salespeople don't hover too much, but are polite when you ask for help. I never leave here spending less than $50, which is why I don't venture inside often, but when I do I am rarely disappointed. read more

I've been coming to this sephora for about 10 years, always have a positive experience. Please remember that people always are quick to yelp about negatives and not about positives. The staff has always been great. They remember your face and are willing to help. If it's busy they will help you when they are done with the other customer, they offer to order stuff that's not in stock and will tell you if they have tried a product or not. I hate leaving bad reviews, but it was my last nerve today. Worst customer service ever. Such unprofessional and narrow-minded people. Always need to chase someone for help, especially when they are gathering together chatting. What do these people come for - to hang out there or to work eventually? Ok, today I caught someone by interrupting their chatty group, as the item I looked for was not available at display. The girl looked for it grudgingly at the bottom drawer and after acknowledging me that there was no item I needed in stock left me. So I started to look for another equal item myself. After some time the same girl approached me with a questions: "What's happen? What's your problem?" WTF??? What kind of questions were that? It seemed some problem with her. So I went to cashier in order to escape that nightmare as soon as possible, but now the cashier picked up the rude streak. She gave me a receipt, but left my bag over her counter and called another client that she was free. So I had to drag my shopping bag through the person that was already on my place. Additionally, a few times I had an issue with a bought product, which was already used. So from now on I have to always check if it is new. I am so over this Sephora store. Unfortunately, the Austin Street location of this store is the most convenient one for me. If Sephora of Queens Mall will expand and have more products I will definately go there for a great service, since I had excellent experience of shopping at Sephora in JCPenney. I love Sephora in general but this is my go-to store as it is convenient and easy to get to (in my favorite Queens neighborhood). It's never too crowded, staff is always very helpful and sweet, and they always have everything I am looking for - unlike other stores (ahem, the one by Times Square.) I love stopping by at least once a month to pick up my beauty necessities as well as monthly treats :) The only downside might be the crowd of teens that sometimes show up and just play with makeup instead of buying things. I don't understand how this location gets such low ratings. This is my local store and I love popping in to get new products and advice. The employees always greet me and check to see if I need help with anything. Although I've frequent this place quite often, I decided to write a review following my most recent visit. I popped in while walking my puppy to quickly pick up some products for contouring. I was holding my puppy in my arms as to not make anyone uncomfortable. One of the Beauty Associates, Yajaira, approached me and said the store was fine with me putting him down so I allowed him to be free from my grip. With my puppy by my side she then asked me what I needed help with. I had asked her about products she recommended for contouring to which she told me to have a seat and she would show me. I get nervous when Beauty Associates do my make up because they tend to go over the top and leave me looking like a clown but I obliged anyway. I sat in the chair with my puppy while Yajaira showed me different products and techniques. While doing my makeup a few other associates and customers came over to pet my puppy which I thought was nice to see that they were comfortable with him around. After about 15 minutes of application and teaching, Yajaira completed an amazing natural looking makeover on my face. She provided awesome service snd helped me feel confident in how to recreate the look myself. I ended up buying all $200 worth of products but had luckily reached VIB status at that point so go 20% off that total so it helped ease that fiscal pain. read more

They give you that "can't you see I'm busy face."However, for the most part, the ladies are very knowledgeable and when they do get around to helping, you walk out feeling good about your purchase. Customer Service: In terms of the helpfulness of the staff....I think most people who frequent this chain will know that customer service is a hit or miss. I have had one great experience where a sales associate (cheerfully too) went into the makeup storage closet for me to dig out the very last of the brushes that were on sale. Another pretty good experience with someone recommending which lipstick would look good with my skin tone. (And didn't upsell me) Most of the time, however, the people at Sephora "let you browse" which really means "pretend you're not there". It can be really difficult to get someone's attention. Today, for instance, I asked a makeup artist who was really busy checking her own makeup in the mirror how to use a particular product. It was the oddest experience because she never looked at me in response but would talk to the little headset she was wearing. It was a little like talking to someone while they were having some sort of feverish dream. She did eventually flag someone else down to answer my question. Meh. Overall? The corporation is solid. It has great perks and if you're willing to do your homework to see if a particular product is in this store (Check location on the website), then you won't be too dependent on the sometimes unhelpful staff. It's a very small Sephora but they always seem to have what I need. The staff here are awesome which is why I stop in about once a week on my walk home. They're very friendly but not on top of you while you browse. I've been to some Sephora's where they follow you around as you try stuff on and repeatedly ask you if you need help. Here, they say hello to you and then let you do what you want. They're also pretty knowledgeable and eager to help if you have questions or need shade recommendations. I went to this Sephora (actually any Sephora) the first time about 2 weeks ago. The staff that helped me were so nice. The one girl Sam helped me find the product I initially came in for (Ciate lash lights) She was so nice and helpful, I have never received so much help and positive vibes before at any store I have ever went to. After I am done I went to the cashier, her name was Michelle and she too was the nicest and most helpful cashier I have ever had contact with, even the associate Sam came back to make sure I got everything I needed when I was being rung out. I've been here so many times (since I live in the area) and this store has never changed. The displays are a mess, always out of stock, lack of selection and the employees are rude/dismissive! What irks me the most is that they ignore customers yet they get so upset when I refuse their help when they try to sell me some gimmick product in the skin care section! What really ticked me off about this location: The other day I sent my boyfriend to buy me the new Clarisonic Smart Profile while I was at work. Understandably, he had no idea what he was looking for and was frantically trying to make sure he was buying the right product. As he stood in the skincare section, obviously dumbfounded by the different Clarisonic models, he was ignored by the workers at this location. He told me he tried smiling and signally them for some help but they would look away or start talking to another associate or customer. Eventually he understood what I was looking for and since no one was willing to help him, he went ahead and tried pulling out the box from the display. I guess for security reasons, the box is slightly larger than the height clearance of the shelf. He kept looking around for help and was afraid to break something if he was too aggressive. After waiting for so long, he got fed up of being ignored and just yanked that sucker out of the display. Of course, it made a loud sound and got someone's attention. He suddenly turned around to a mob of angry Sephora employees. They took the box out of his hands and said "we'll hold it at the counter for you".. As if he was going to steal and walk out with a box larger than his head! He came home telling me how rude these women were to him. He told me he tried lightening up the mood by apologizing and joking with the cashier by letting her the Clarisonic is a gift for me.. But nope, she wasn't having it! I think these employees need more training and learn to be more pleasant.. Otherwise they shouldn't be working in retail! I understand if it's busy but it was almost 8pm and the store was nearly empty. I ended up returning the Clarisonic the next day and when I did, I made it a point to let them know how I felt about this location. They offered an empty "oh I'm sorry you feel that way ma'am".. All in all, go to another location. It's worth traveling into Manhattan and visiting one of their more reputable stores. I would give this sephora negative reviews if I could. IVE NEVER COME ACROSS A LESS HELPFUL SEPHORA IN MY LIFE! It's summer and I'm looking for my summer foundation. As a black girl I always get samples before I buy any foundation to check if it oxidizes etc. I'm standing there with samples and everyone in there is either ignoring me or giving me side eye? What gives? I go up to one guy a tall slender male and he actually helps me but he was the only associate that was actually approachable and working. There was a black girl with gold extensions braided in a goddess braid having a convo with another employee avoiding eye contacts. She was giving her coworker a massage are you kidding me!?!? Then I stopped by the makeup counter and this one black chick with a top knot was doing a woman's makeup. I just look at her and she gives me the most mean side eye and stank face of my life. Basically like I insulted her mother!?!?!? There was an Indian/ middle eastern girl that was available so I asked her for a sample and she looked like she didn't wanna help me. So I asked her if she only worked in fragrance and she looked relieved like yea I only work in fragrance. As if I gave her a excuse. Also she looked at me like I had 20 heads cause I wanted a powder sample. Every Sephora in manhattan gives them to me. Bullshit every sephora I went to anyone could give me a sample or help me with anything in the store minus skin care cause sometimes they were only trained in skin care.
