I'm a tad surprised at myself that I have yet to write a review for this Sephora yet. Here we go.. Pros: 1) This location is huge! 2) Everything is clean and all of the price, 95% of the time, are aligned perfectly on the shelf. 3) They're usually young men in suits at the front door to greet you. Cons: 1) For the first few times that you are here, the layout is overwhelming. The cashiers are right in the center of the entire store. The signs that indicate what section is for which brand are not that clear. 2) Don't be surprised if you are not asked by an employee if you need help. Most of them will blatantly ignore you and continue on with their business. 3) It's hard to find staff that can or are willing to help you. For example, I asked a young lady if she could help me find something. She said she was with another customer. I found this odd because there was not a customer standing next to her. Whatever. She proceeded to say that she will ask a fellow co-worker to help me. Perfect. I continue waiting in that spot for close to 5 minutes without any help. I doubt she even asked anyone to come over and help me. Nonetheless, I got sick of waiting and continued on my merry way. 4) Theres a good chance that you will be in line for up to 10 minutes. I don't know how this is when they're 4 registers but it is what it is. Prepare to wait in a line if you plan to come here for your lunch break. My best tip: know what you want before you even enter into the store. Most of the employees are not helpful and seem as though they do not even want to help you in the first place. Your better off just researching the product on your own and then going to the store to purchase it. read more

I'm not a girley girl at all... pretty much the complete opposite. But I'm strangely obsessed with Sephora. Here are the secrets: you can get anything as a sample, just ask, they have to give it to you! And you can return anything, whenever you want, even if it's almost all used up. No questions asked! And you get all your money back. The staff does not work on commission, so they're not pushy. And if you join their little beauty insider club, you'll get free stuff with each purchase. Seriously, they give stuff away, and that's how they rope you in. Even for a non-makeup wearing gal like me, it's tons of fun! read more

Oh Sephora if I could fit your entire make up store in my little vanity I would! They have everything you might need for your make up needs. Also the store is very clean and the people there are quite helpful. The one downfall is that it's ALWAYS busy (it must mean they're doing something right?) Just a little tip for everyone, you can get a full makeover if you purchase $50 or more worth of products, and let's face it if you are there chances are you are spending that much so take advantage of it! As far as who does your make up it's a hit or miss but hey its free if you were already going to spend that much anyway! read more

I had one good experience here and two very mediocre ones. I only purchased items from the good salesperson. The second time in the saleswoman looked like she went to the Ronald McDonald School of Cosmetology and the third time (today) the woman showed me to the product and drifted away. I go to a store like Sephora to be coddled about my makeup decisions. I grew up a tom boy and didn't consistently start wearing gender appropriate clothing until high school so despite the fact that I look reasonably well put together I had to overcome the style handicap or having a non-makeup wearing mother and no fairy godmother. I want to have a pencil or other tool to properly add a dark line adjacent my eyelashes without it looking choppy or thick / unnatural. I am very particular about the make up I use. Once I find a product I love, it is nearly impossible for me to stray. However, the service at the Philadelphia Sephora location has caused me to rethink my policy. Each trip there is more dreadful than the last. My last trip was especially painful. I went in to purchase a replacement product which was out of stock and spent the next 45 minutes being shuffled between employees who would rather watch paint dry than answer my questions. I was never even told the item was out of stock, I was just thrown on the phone with customer service who had no idea what was going on either. If asking a simple question (when will you be getting this product back in?) is so difficult to answer, from now I will just make everyone's life easier and shop at MAC. read more

Came here for a mini makeover with Krysi. I had a great time learning about different moisturizers and make up application techniques. She was very knowledgeable and a very good saleswoman, as I bought way too much stuff at the end of my session. It can get busy on a Friday afternoon, but that's to be expected given it's location. read more

The people that work here are great! But the hours are terrible!!! Who on a weeknight can make it to Sephora or anywhere between 10 and 7? I like everything about this location except the crap hours. I shop at sephora for all of my make up. I also like to go in here at least once a week. I like to ask the workers for help because I would assume they know a decent amount about all of the products. This location is a little lacking in this department. The last time I was there I asked a woman for help (after I clearly stated that I planned on buying what I was asking for), she made it seem like I was annoying her when asking her to do her job. I've definitely had some great help before at this location, but I guess its hit or miss. They have a great selection for a center city small location. read more

Every other Sephora I've been to, I've gotten mobbed by sales associates. Not at this one. In fact, when I do approach SAs they tend to act like I'm inconveniencing them. When I'm in business attire the employees seem to give like an eighth of a shit about helping me, but that's really the best service I've gotten there. I came in this afternoon while running errands with two friends, so we were in our casual clothes - all black, kinda punk-looking but not really. The staff seemed to go out of their way to ignore us; one woman actually came up between my friends and busied herself with a display that we were looking at, then walked away without so much as making eye contact, let alone asking us if we were finding everything okay. Also, and this has been a pattern my weirder-looking friends have noticed as well, it was really really obvious that a lot of the staff was watching us because they thought we were trying to shoplift. Uh, we're grown adults with jobs, we don't steal shit. I was there because I wanted new lipstick for my law school graduation, for frick's sake. Hey guys, just because you think someone doesn't look like they're there to buy anything (which I was) doesn't mean you shouldn't make an effort. And I hate saying this kind of thing, but I worked retail for three years and even when a store's mobbed (which it wasn't), it's not hard to acknowledge your customers and give even a modicum of customer service. The dude who rang me up was cool and a lot nicer than the people on the floor. Once we flagged down a sales associate she was helpful, but that was only after she tried to pass us off to another SA and couldn't find one. It was the second really frustrating experience I've had at Sephora on a weekday afternoon when the store was not very crowded. So when's that Ulta going to open up? read more

I am so unhappy to write this review but I feel like I have to in order to change the situation! I went to Sephora for the body sunscreen and when I asked sales associate to show me some, she was looking around for some time and finally she pointed to the face SPF saying that that one is the best. Very confusing! It is so hot outside, but they don't care. How hard it must be to remember where is the hottest products are. Especially that the girl that assisted me is working there forever (I remember her from my previous visits) Very disappointing! I like Sephora for variety of choice, but today I realized that the word experience is not equivalent to the number of years you do something!!!! I ended up finding all sunblocks myself and getting one. No thanks to anybody there! And I knew what to choose cause I know ingredients but what about regular people?! I will go there again for sure but not going to bother asking for help. It would be great to create some educational program for sales associates. read more

I love Sephora in New York, but the Philly location has terrible service from a really rude staff. I went in last Sunday and the store was pretty empty, lots of staff were just standing around. No one asked me if I needed help. I asked a salesperson for help finding a certain shade of a product and she said she'd check in the back. I waited for 30 minutes before I found her standing at the register talking to her coworkers. When I asked her if she found my product, she said no. She said that she told the staff through her headset that she couldn't find it and assumed someone else came to tell me. Apparently they all have these headsets so that they can diffuse responsibility when they're helping their customers. Sadly, I think she was the manager. I went to Blue Mercury Spa instead and was treated well by VERY a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Never going back to Sephora again. read more

My rating is NOT for Sephora as a whole, but for Sue Bostani. While I would agree that the Sephora on Chestnut is awful in many regards, Sue Bostani, the Personal Beauty Advisor, makes it worthwhile to visit, especially if you have an appointment. Not only has she helped me stop washing my face with "whatever soap was in the shower", but she helped me to target my purchases to my budget and to really buy what would make a difference. I was so thrilled with the results that I actually brought my boyfriend in for a visit. Normally this is something he would not at all be interested in, but I think he secretly enjoyed it and actually uses what he bought. Sue was wonderful with getting him in and out quickly and giving him some basic products he will actually use. read more

I have shopped a Sephora multiple times but this is the first time I have visited the one on Chestnut Street. It was busy so everyone was running around frantically and it took me a while to find someone to help me look for a product. When I did find an associate in skincare who didn't seem busy I asked her if she could help me and she said "what's up". What's up reallyyy that is very unprofessional and extremely rude to say to a customer. She then rushed when I asked her what I was looking for and did not seem interested in what I had to say. Updating my previous review because i decided to try and give this location ONE more chance and i once again am leaving disappointed. is there any way to train this staff to not be stuck up and a little friendlier? i'm treated way better when i walk in here with a full face of makeup rather than when i come in with just a little bit of foundation and no one wants to help me. i came in tonight to exchange a foundation i ordered online that was just the wrong shade, i got nothing but stares, no one asked if i needed help and once i finally found what i was looking for and made my way to the register the girl who helped me couldn't be more bothered she needs to help someone... i had no service in the store and she had to look up my beauty insider and wasn't able to find it and said while rolling her eyes "are you sure you're in here?" she refused to make eye contact with me after this point while complaining to her co-worker about the day. To be honest, I don't "get" the whole Sephora thing. Shopping at a department store makeup counter can be awkward with the salesperson staring at you, but if you go to Sephora when it's not busy it's just as bad (or worse) with employees asking if you "need help" every 15 seconds. It can be as bad as Lush (which I wouldn't go into if you paid me for this reason). Honestly not sure if they think I'm a shoplifter or somehow think harassing customers while they're trying to shop increases sales. I'll stick with Macy's when I'm in center city. read more

Love this sephora! Came here on two separate occasions. I was here to get an eyebrow pencil and one of the sephora girls demonstrated how to apply the product on. And even waited to see if I could apply it correctly myself. I wished I remembered her name (maybe Melanie? She wore her hair in a bun) but she also helped me with my inquires about other products. Today I had the BEST service here. I was in a terrible mood and needed a treat, and the fragrance I have worn for years and years was discontinued recently. Department store fragrance counters scare me - I hate pushy help. Plus I knew there would be an amazing selection here. After looking for a few minutes I realized that all though I like to do things myself, I was in over my head. I was ready to accept assistance. The salesperson in fragrance was great! I told her about what I had been wearing, and even though they don't carry it, she at least was familiar with it. She used this computer they have to search for fragrances by notes and other fragrances I like, and then patiently paraded me around the store. We spritzed, we laughed, we cried, and eventually I walked out with a new fragrance plus two samples of others and a free mascara from my rewards card. read more

I'm a fan. I have sensitive skin and therefore am very picky about what I'm willing to put on my face. I wish they carried Dermalogica, but more often than not I can get what I need at Sephora. (I love one stop shopping) The staff generally has been friendly and helpful, but as with any retail situation, this can be spotty at times. Sign up for their Insider card - after you accrue 100 points ($1 = 1point) you get free samples. My favorite freebies are lip gloss and mascara, but they usually have a few options so you can choose what you like. The prices can be steep, but not much more so than anywhere else, and the free stuff makes me feel like I'm getting a deal. read more

Hm, I don't know how to do a 1/2 star...if so, I'd do 3 1/2 stars...but let me qualify that... There was an overabundance of staff there, but only two registers open, so I had to wait to check out, despite probably more than 5 other employees dashing to and fro. On the plus side, several let me know to ask them if I needed assistance when I was browsing. Also, I only had to wait while one person checked out, and it wouldn't have really mattered at all, had I not been in a rush to begin with, as I hadn't planned on stopping in. I'm so glad I rediscovered it! Sephora has so many more choices than Ulta for makeup, though Ulta is more multi-dimensional, in that there are "normal drug-store" products there, as well as an abundance of hair care products. They never have anything in stock. I was looking for my shade as a consultant was standing DIRECTLY in front of the stand I needed. I politely said "excuse me, Can I grab something ?" and she didn't move whatsoever. Then she was asking me questions with her back towards me not even looking at me once. But the last time I went to this particular store (about a month ago) I asked where the Fekkai products were located. One of the saleswomen answered (with disgust): "Oh we no longer carry his line anymore because he went mass market. So if you want that you can go to Target or Wallmart." Usually with chains like this, I like to review the customer service more so than the store in general because at this point, I think everyone knows how Sephora operates. My friend and I went here on a slow Sunday afternoon and we were greeted by multiple people who practically begged us to give them something to do because they were so bored :D So we both got a little eyebrow makeover and loved the results. The two girls worked with us for well over a half hour and didn't pressure us into buying stuff, but we ended up buying a few things anyway. It was fairly well stocked when we went there, and it was nice to not have to fight for attention (or space) for once. read more

I am a huge Sephora fan and was delighted when they decided to open this location. I can make a quick run here at lunch or after work to grab my necessities from a staff I find to be quite nice. I don't really rely on the staff for help, but they know me from being there a lot, and they are quite nice to me. The selection does leave something to be desired, but most of the big brands and my necessities are here. Keep in mind it is a much smaller retail space than many other Sephoras. The return policy is one of the best around, if not tops. The one in the Cherry Hill Mall is my go-to Sephora, but this one is nothing to sniff at, either! read more

Ok, I do love me some Sephora, but this is the worst one I have ever been to....and I have been to a lot. Sometimes it looks as if there was a garage sale going on in there. They are always out of products, too. I once asked one the the girls working the floor about a type of foundation, and she had no clue. I then saw her opening up powder - not one of the testers, but out of a box - and proceed to use it on her face. She then put it back in the box and stuck it in with the other products for sale! She did this all in a crowded store! I was so excited when I heard Sephora was coming to Philly...I am so disappointed. I now just try to order everything online. read more

I usually go to the Sephora in King of Prussia and I must admit, I like King of Prussia better. I never ask for help when I shop at Sephora lucky me... I was at this Sephora for 20 minutes and was never offered any help. The only time I will shop at this Sephora is if I know what I want. I brought a YSL Lipstick, which I will be taking back. My particular lipstick didn't have a mirror on top. Which makes me think, did someone return the lipstick and switch the top? If so, what's your return policy? I would hate to think that you re shelf products after it's returned. BTW... I purchased YSL number 17 red muse, it should have a mirror on top. read more

I. LOVE. SEPHORA. I'm like a kid in a candy store whenever I'm in there but the only problem is it's bad for my wallet. Now, if that weren't an issue I'd spend as much time buying stuff there as I do going in and testing and browsing...Not only that, the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. One day, I needed disposable mascara wands because I was doing makeup for a play, so I called and asked if they sold them and they said, "No, we don't sell them but if you come by the store we'll leave some for you at the counter." So I came in, and surely enough they gave me a whole bag full of cotton pads, eyeshadow and lipstick applicators, Q-Tips, and mascara wands! There was a note on it too--"Dana--xoxo, Sephora." I love Sephora but I rather shop online to avoid some people that works there. I was coming in with a stroller (and a baby, of course) and as I was trying to open the door with one hand and another hand on a stroller. The Sephora worker asked me, how are you and I see she's a greeter and handing out samples. The security guard standing across her. Both of them did not attempt to help me with the door. They just stood there. I'm like wow really. I didn't mean to be rude but I was upset and ignored her. That wasn't nice of her. I may not be a VIB rouge but I'm like $100 away, whatever. Regardless, have some empathy and do help ANY kind of ppl. But when I left the store, the security guard did helped me with the door. I was over the moon when this place opened, and I still dig it. I'm a MAC fan, but it's a beauty supermarket - how can you NOT love that? You can find great little samples of products your not sure about, high end products (I swear by DiorShow mascara, thanks to them), fragrances, skin care, nail polish, brushes, teeth whitening products, hair care, makeup bags & accessories. The Beauty Insider rewards card they offer is great too - free products on your birthday, and free products with enough points, which add up quite quickly. The staff is never in your face, but very helpful if you ask or look lost. They'll greet you and leave you alone to browse if that's what you prefer too. I will suggest, look closely at salesperson before you ask for a makeup suggestion. A few of them have um.... very individualistic ideas of how makeup should be worn. For people who know nothing about cosmetics and beauty products, the place may look intimidating but it really isn't. I saw so many lost looking boys stop in over the holidays, who left looking confident they'd purchased the right gift. Sephora has lots of exclusive products, fantastic value packs and decent sales. I went in to the rittenhouse location expecting to walk out without the correct shade of foundation because the artists are always busy. Thankfully I met Stephanie and she helped me match my foundation correctly and get the dewy glow I wanted but have never found in a foundation. She helped me so much by putting two different foundations (NARS and Laura Mercier) on my face so I could see which achieved the look I wanted better. I decided on the Laura Mercier in the end. Stephanie was so nice and patient with me. Great customer service! read more

I kind of hate that this is the only Sephora in Center City. I would travel further away for the same store just to get some better service. I can count on more than one hand the number of times that I've walked into this store and the staff has been cold and rude. It's hard to find someone to help you get product samples or talk you through finding what you're looking for. I know a lot of people come in and out of that store and don't need your help or sometimes you may just be in a bad mood but don't you put that ju ju on me. I have had sales personnel glare at me when I walk in just before closing on my way home and it certainly does not make me want to come back. Also, if it's raining I would wait for another day to shop here. They have massive leaks in the building and have to put out baskets to catch the water. Makes for a pretty gross shopping experience. Otherwise, it's your run of the mill Sephora stocked with the products that you would expect. i love sephora. because i spend so much money on makeup --not that i need it, pshhh! ;) -- i get so much free loot! also since you can try anything in the store, you will always know what you are buying as opposed to simply hoping something will work for you. for things like face washes, etc that you can't really try in the store, they will give you a sample or squeeze some product into a little tub for you to take home and try. amazing. in fact, once in a while i will stop in for a quick makeup touch-up or a perfume spritz if i'm headed out straight after work (sorta embarassing, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!) as far as the salespeople, it's hit or miss. some are very nice and knowledgeable, others are clueless, and others still look like they think they are working at halloween world. but the pros far outweigh the cons for me, so for that reason i absolutely recommend this store! read more
