It is a clean and quiet space, which is a nice contrast to some of the budget salons in the area. They also do not accept credit cards so payment is very inconvenient if you do not have cash. The mani/pedi was the WORST I have ever received in my 20+ years of getting my nails done at other places. It looks like a child did my nails. Cuticles not fully cleaned. The polish doesn't even fully cover my entire nail surface and it looks like I've let my nails grow out for a week or two after getting them painted. Lash extensions were really fast here (about an hour), and it's been two weeks since and they still look glam and natural on my East Asian eye shape. I'd recommend La Palette for lash extensions for a special occasion like a vacation or honeymoon. They are also on ClassPass! 3.5 stars. I was trying different salons before my wedding to choose the best place to get my wedding nails done. Updated: Gave them one last try with Joe. My gel mani chipped at 7pm on exactly the 10th day, and their chip-free guarantee window is conveniently 7-10 days. If it wasn't for that, I would have been happy that I found Joe, who is EXCELLENT as a manicure artist. Language barrier is tough as he cut my nail straight across even though I told him oval. I had to show him my pre-cut nail in the shape that I wanted and then he got the shape correct for the rest of my nails. Still inconsistent on timing of LED Gel lamp. I was impressed he used tools from "sterile" packaging until I saw that he put the tools back into the same "sterile" package (and then I realized I didn't see him open the package in front of me so I had no way of verifying that the package was actually even clean before he used it on me). My collective thoughts from the 3 experiences: - I came at 11:55am for my 12 noon "appointment" with Dorina but still had to wait until 12:25. No one explained why I got Joe instead of Dorina. However, it helped that Joe was so fantastic at delivering what I wanted so I left the appointment happy with the results of my nails. - it turns out their service is not necessarily better if you speak Chinese: A girl who spoke mandarin was getting her brows done standing up at the mani station for no reason, and she had to remind them that her time was up. - Pricing structure is random and not transparent. I did not know price of my gel mani until paying. When another girl and her friends were paying, the workers were trying to say it was $45 for her gel mani and when she asked why it wasn't $30, they told her that's the appointment price. She responded that she DID make an appointment, but unfortunately I couldn't hear the rest of the conversation so I don't know what price she ultimately paid. Came here 3x to ensure my review is as accurate as possible. By the luck of the draw first 2 times I happened to get the same tech Yammy, so this review will mention her a lot. Unfortunately Yammy does not speak English and needed a translator for all questions about the manicure shape and style I wanted. Highlights: 1st time: $65 gel mani and gel pedi. - Right thumb got smudged after pulling up my jean zipper on the 3rd day but I was already on vacation in Cali and unable to come back to get it fixed. Mani overall lasted 3 weeks. Pedi lasted 4 weeks. 2nd time: $30 gel mani + $5/nail design x2 = $40 total - got an "I do" design on both ring fingers with rhinestones to dot the "I" Overall (happened both times): - Tech Yammy did both my nails and feet. She is very attentive but afraid to go right up to the end of the nail bed, resulting in my nails looking like I did them in the beginning of the week even though I just stepped out the salon. - I'm very particular about my nails and a perfectionist, so I cut my own nails before I came in to ensure it is the right shape. I left only 1mm of nail growth to ensure that my nails would be the desired length in 1 week in all of it's manicured glory. Yammy asked if she could cut it but I told her to only file it if needed. She did not ask me what length I desired and ended up filing down to the very beginning - I was upset as I did not want what I consider to be short stubby nails. - the writing for "I do" was uneven. Not sure if it was the brush that was too long and soft or if if was the ink that dried out too quickly (she had to dip in ink 3-5x per letter, not sure if she's just not that good with nail designs, I hardly think "i do" is that complicated) - pricing: their pricing is misleading! One pricing structure on yelp and a different on their whiteboard outside. A different tech explained that $65 for gel mani and gel pedi was including a discount and would have been the same as the yelp discount. (didn't catch her name but she always wears the wireless Apple ear buds and always acted as the cashier. She can also speak English but she was not the one who translated for Yammy). Same thing happened for the gel mani with simple design (see pic). -all of the tech prefer to speak in Chinese. 2-3 of the techs on both days can speak some English, but only one of them does not speak English with a broken accent. - While I understand that the shoulder massages are complimentary for mani and leg massages are complimentary for pedis, it felt like someone was just stroking me as Yammy did not apply much pressure at all both times. Maybe I just got lucky at other salons where the techs gave me a good long rub down. Perhaps I might get a different experience with another tech but I've decided that 3 times the charm so I'm not returning to find out. read more

I got my permanent eyebrows done here, the powdered type and at first thought it was too thick, but Cecelia assured me it would get thinner and it did after 2 weeks. I am happy with my results. Prior to coming in I had called in advance to confirm pricing for a gel mani/pedi and the girl told me it would be $50. I got my pedi done and was about to get my toe nails painted then they told me it would be $65 for gel mani/pedi. I told them about the pricing of me calling in and they said the $50 was for a gel mani and regular pedi. I said fine. I want to mention that the lady doing my pedi rinsed "sanitized" her tools in my dirty foot water... and I did not see her use a new pack of tools before working on my nails. I'm hoping I don't get any fungus issues. I also had a horrible experience with my eyebrow waxing today. Samantha did my brows and totally screwed them up. All I asked was for a clean up, not for thinning, shortening or making any changes to my brows. First she waxed them, then shaved them, cut them and finally plucked it. I was wondering why so many things were happening, but figured she probably knew what she was doing since this salon has about 4 stars. To my horror and surprise, my eyebrows were thinner (as in shape and hairs) and my brows were now really short an weird looking. I was livid and so upset. My natural brows are thick and have a good shape to them already. I complained and Samantha said she would not charge me since I didn't like them.. she the stated that she made my brows shorter to "open" up the face (which I never asked for and she never consulted my opinion first) and that she was following my natural brows. If she was following my natural brows, why do I barely have any hair left at my tails, why are my brows so short and the whole top half was either waxed or shaved down.. i came home to wash my face and my brows looked so sloppy. If you want to suggest changes on a customer's face, consult them first! Ask if it's what they want, it is their face! Just b/c you may think it looks good does not mean the customer wants it. I didn't ask for her opinion or request that she do anything to my brows besides cleaning them up.. any normal stylist with the customer's best interest in mind would follow simple directions. If someone asked me to "clean" their brows, I would wax the tiny hairs that are growing out of place and if their brows are long, I would ask them if they want me to trim them down! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND A PLACE THAT CAN'T SIMPLY PUT THEIR CUSTOMER'S WANTS AS FIRST PRIORITY!!!!!! Do not go here!! I understand that eyebrows grow back, but they don't grow back overnight. I have been here about four or five times now with my significant other. Each time I have been here has been a tremendous experience. We can only speak to the pedicures and manicures (for my girlfriend). The place is extremely clean and sanitary. The staff is beyond courteous and very friendly. Each time I have been here they are super quick to get you seated and extremely thorough. My girlfriend had a manicure from here before a wedding and she received compliments all weekend; she even felt like the gentleman who did her manicure was the most thorough person who had ever done her nails. This is definitely a great local business and worth supporting. For $30/pedicure I would say that this is right on with the price point of other salons in the center city area. Came in for gel manicure for the first time. I wanted to get some gold stones and flakes on my nails so I showed the nail tech the design that I like. The picture was posted by the owner here on Yelp. The nail techs speak very little English and it was hard for me to explain specific things I wanted beside the design I showed them.. so they just followed the picture as it was. Also, I wish they had discussed the price with me first before they start doing manicure because I ended up paying the price of manicure plus the additional fee for the design which was WAY MORE THAN the cost of gel manicure itself :( But I was pretty satisfied with how they turn out, I'm hoping the nail polish last more than just a few days. read more

I've had my lashes done at La Palette three times over the past year, and they always do a great job on the actual lashes at a great price! BUT they ALWAYS cancel on me and ask to reschedule the appointment every time, even if I made the appointment two to three weeks in advance. Sometimes they do this multiple times for one appointment. I don't usually get my nails done, but I figured it was time to treat myself. Found this place through yelp and the reviews/pictures pulled me in. I made an appointment for a regular nail polish. When I came in, they immediately seated me. And before I chose a color, I wanted to make sure I was getting regular nail polish, for which the lady nodded her head and said yes. It wasn't until they put my hands under the UV that I realized it was gel. By the end of it, they charged me $30 and assured me it would last 2-3 weeks, which was fine by me because, as I've mentioned, I don't usually get my nails done. My nails were a pretty pink/nude and I was happy with it for pretty much 5 days until it started to chip. I called them the next day and with no problem, the lady on the phone (Coco?) told me to come back and they'd re-do the chipped nails. So I come back about 1.5 weeks after my first appointment and again, they seated me immediately. They decided that they only needed to work on my right hand, and the middle finger on my left hand. They sanded and buffed out the gel, but I noticed they didn't use any nail polish remover. They applied the new polish and within 30 minutes, I was good to go. You could tell one hand looked brighter than the other, but it was also bumpier because they just slapped on new nail polish over the old one. Literally one day later, the new polish chipped on my thumb, and you could see the old nail polish. On top of that, the nails that were colored from the first time started chipping too. I was honestly hoping the nails would last for at least 2 weeks, especially having gone TWICE. I have only done gel polish once before, but they definitely lasted longer than this. I gave them 2 stars for their immediate response, and their attempt to re-doing my nails. But the quality and the shoddy-attempt to fix it are why it's only 2 stars. read more

Yesterday, I wanted to do my nails for graduation but I got an awful experience from one of the nail tech. First, I asked her if I have enough time for both gel mani and regular pedicure since I only have one and half hour. If I knew it is going to be rush, I would just do gel mani and come back for other time. She was rushing everything. (I even felt burn on my feet when she was massaging me with hot stone. I didn't have a moment to enjoy my pedicure. Second, she asked if i don't often do my nails. Like what kind of question do you ask your clients ? This is super rude and none of your business. EDIT: ughhh I love this place but why, there's no rhyme or reason to their pricing here, I have been charged $20, $25 and $30 for the same exact service; a gel polish change. Most salons charge $15 in suburbs or $20 in city for this. The owner/manager reached out out of good faith and good will and offered for me to come back in and get a do-over mani and I can say this one, second time around is immaculate. The first time around wasn't horrible either, it just wasn't my cup of nail tea. Previously I had had a male manicurist who was very slow and careful. Some of the techs here don't speak English so it is a little hard to communicate w them nail shape or like basic things but oh well. The woman who took care of me second time around worked a bit quicker. Anyway, the line at the base of my cuticles is clean, and the gel is way thinner. The tech took her time and spent a lot of effort getting any little bit of gel off my skin, and making sure it was perfect. The owner came over to see how an off brand of polish was faring and instead suggested OPI for its opacity. They do *legitimate* nail art here, really detailed quality work. I would go back but specify to get gel thin and to paint all the way on sides of nail to cuticle and not risk nail art based on how hard I am personally on my nails. again, this is a Chinese owned salon and many techs do not understand English, a language barrier here if you do not speak Mandarine. The younger highschool/college kids that work here are super duper sweet. Still manicures really take a long time compared to other salons so keep that in mind if you're putting time on a meter. Let's just say I was not disappointed. I went in and had an image in my head of what exactly what I wanted to get done.
