It's OK hard to get out because they're always so busy. And often looks a little unkempt, but I guess that's due to them being so busy.

This Sephora is ok. We have gone in on a slow day and went through the regular line without a problem. The next time we went and attempted to skip the line and used the kiosk, what a MISTAKE! First, when one of my girls mentioned a free sample (TO ME), the kiosk girl, Connie, said "No, there are no samples for kids", with a disgusting tone. Not only was my girl NOT talking to her but when I asked why, she said they had ingredients that are not for kids! I then asked if I could have the samples and she handed them over to me which is when i think handed over to the kids! It is my decision to give the product to my kids... she could have easily just asked me if they could vs being rude to my children! read more

I don't understand cosmetic stores. I mean I really do, but at the same time do they need to be free standing stores? I suppose the simple answer there is yes, but at the same time I really don't understand it. Especially when I am so use to seeing these in most department stores. I suppose when you have these in a busy, high end mall they can survive. Which is the case for this location. It was fairly busy in here when we stopped in which made for a bit of a runaround for us. Customer service wasn't the best. After circling the store a few times and not seeing a single employee willing to help we had to approach the sales counter to ask where an item might be. I made a quick stop here today for eyeliner. When you walk up, they have a line outside where you wait to go in. Social distancing is strongly enforced here. I was chatting with the woman at the door and she asked if I knew what I was looking for. I told her it was only one item, and she offered to just grab it for me and I could pay right there if I wasn't interested in browsing. So fast and easy! I love that they are taking extra precautions for safety. (Also not sampling products). It was a fast friendly experience. Good on them. read more

You never know what kind of atmosphere you'll get at a Sephora but this one had really attentive girls! Just a regular Saturday and it was packed with everyone and their boyfriends and kids squeezing into the skinny aisles. One girl helped me dig up a Jo Malone sample and another one was really knowledgeable about Glow Recipe products. Both were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed this visit! read more

Had an appointment and brought my daughter with me. Asked for very brief consultation for both of us with foundation. Lovely staff person helped us both. Until abrupt manager interrupted and said no, just one of us could be helped in an appt time. Despite the fact that staff was available with no other customers. Our consultant was clearly embarrassed by the attitude of her manager and quietly apologized. My daughter had a consultation and I did my own shopping without guidance. We spent $300. The only reason this store is getting 2 stars instead of one is because of the one young woman that did try to help me. This store is absolutely ridiculous. First of all, most of the employees are wearing so much makeup that they look absolutely fake. Sorry, that's not attractive, and that won't sell product. People want a natural look. Second, i was looking at a certain product from the Kat Von D line (my favorite makeup) and the sales associate with short brown hair came up with another customer and pushed me out of the way to show her the line. I get it, you're trying to make a sale, but I'm also a customer who you just lost business from because of that little stunt. She didn't even ask me if I needed help with anything. It wasn't until a young woman with blonde hair asked me if I needed help did I get help from anyone in that store. Third, 99.9% of the women who work there act like they are better than anyone there. They have attitudes and don't speak to you until you approach them. Overall, poor customer service, with the exception of one person. I walked in with my friend today. I'm not one that wears a ton of makeup but wanted to see if they might have a foundation that might work for me. After being looked up and down by the girl who wears the thick makeup..I knew I did not want to talk to her, or the other girl that helped my friend. (That girl seemed like she didn't really want to help but figured that she would.) So I looked for a friendly face and someone who wasn't wearing a caked on face. That's when Gianna came to my rescue and was more than willing to help me out. She is newer so she had Kaitlin helping her out. This was kind of cool because I was able to hear Kaitlin tell Gianna what to do and why she does a certain thing.. Anyway, long story short...they matched me with a perfect color! I was looking for some different products for a photoshoot, and wanted something new aside from my usual MAC usage. Kimiko was not only friendly and personable, but she was very knowledgeable. She was also humble enough to call on her co-workers' different strengths to really help me get exactly what I needed. I LOVED seeing the teamwork between Kimiko and Mara. As a woman of color, it's not always easy to get the right shade, undertone, etc...and as a woman with oily skin, some products make my shine turn all the way up. Kimiko, also being a woman of color with a diverse background, seemed to give her an open-mindedness and a willingness to really become a make-up sleuth, that I just don't get from another well-known cosmetic store . I was so pleased with my experience, I will be back! It was well worth the 30-minute drive. read more

I love Sephora. Why? Every time I visit, I'm always intrigued by the selection of products, displays and their knowledgeable staff. They are always trying to teach you how to do something better or how to even attempt it altogether. Currently, they are teaching contouring which is one of my favorite beauty topics. They will show you how to do what the professionals do and then you can go run with it. The associates here take their time with you and will even write down the products sampled on you with detailed instructions. The friendliness of the associates at this location makes it one of my favorite. I don't feel as though someone is breathing down my back while I'm browsing the eye, face and body candy. Whatever you do, be sure to join their Beauty Insider Program. They will send you deals, give you points for purchases which turn into free stuff and gift you on your birthday. Whether you're just looking for perfume to the whole shabang to glam it up a bit...this is your place. I'll admit it's not cheap, but the best of the best usually aren't. read more

Sephora can drive me crazy and the only reason I ever need to go is when I want to buy my Nars orgasm blush/bronzer duo, Makeup Forever products, or the Definicils mascara from Lancome. Otherwise I will normally go elsewhere but in all honesty I have buckets of makeup at this point that I don't even know what to do with it. Who needs 8 different types of mascara? A gazzillion lipsticks and glosses? I can't even talk eyeshadow...ha ha Full disclosure on this one! I am a coordinating rep for two companies in the Pittsburgh region. One is a skin care company only found in Ulta stores and the Other is a popular cosmetic line that I do professional make up events for...Uhm "Why be Pretty when you can be Gorgeous" any way for the past four years I have had the opportunity through vendor relations to work with and receive gratis from the most popular and quality prestige lines. I've tried it all and always know what is new and cutting edge in cosmetics. As a consumer there are pros and cons to Sephora Con: The sales staff can have an elitist "attitude" and are not always very friendly. This can vary so look for the sweet girl who is smiling and willing to help. The goal is to sell sell sell and make sales goals so they want you to buy the most expensive items. This too can vary because the staff consider themselves pros and may direct you to what they use. The trick is to sit down and take the time to try before you buy. Have them apply your new makeup choices, wear it around for awhile then see how you like it. They can also write down everything used so you can buy some now and return for the rest. They don't always WANT to do this but just ask outright. It's the job. Tip going on a quiet day will ensure much better service and detailed explanations. Pros: They are well trained on all the make up/skincare, and can usually answer any question you may have. These days consumers are looking for organic products, paraben free, sensitive hypoallergenic and they will know what lines to direct you to. They are makeup artists with extensive training so they will know what shades work with your face shape, and skin tones! Watch what they are doing or ask them to explain the application process. Lastly I also work at a Medspa and work with many skin conditions melasma, sun damage, rosacea, mild to severe acne, and others. Makeup sits on top of the skin so don't cover up the problems treat them before they get out of hand. Over the counter brands may be cheaper and you can get buy with cheap eye shadow or lip gloss but don't skimp on your face products( foundations, powders, cleansers, moisturizers) because you may be making the problems worse. Take it from me I get a lot of free products but when I find what works I have to go out and spend that money, and no I don't always get a discount. read more

I walk in to the store and am greeted kindly. I am one of like 4 people in this store with more than 4 employees around. No one asked if I needed help until I went to ask someone for help. Then as I asked her about a matte liquid lip, she points to a few brands and nothing else. I've come to other Sephora's where they help me really find my shade and walk with me through this process. But this girl made me feel like she was tossing me aside so she could go talk with a different employee the rest of the time. The makeup is 4-5 stars but it's because of this employee that I gave it a lower rating. Won't be back to this sephora again. read more

The Ross Park location is my absolute favorite. Every staff member that has helped me was extremely friendly and had great advice, that I took! Most recently I stopped in for some matte eyeshadow. I knew NARS had a good product, so I was browsing in that aisle. A member of the staff came over and asked me what I was looking for. She suggested I try an Urban Decay eyeshadow set. It was exactly what I was looking for AND it was cheaper than the NARS! This is just my latest wonderful experience of many. Ross Park over Shadyside any day. read more

So this review is really for a select portion of the Sephora Staff. In the past I have had mini makeovers by a few of the girls there that are excellent, full of patience, or really just know their inventory. As a person who buys makeup rarely and just wants something that looks pretty natural with a few accents ( and of course something special for the evening), for me its super important that a sephora employee knows what they have and maybe where its been placed since i last visited. For example, I have a beloved eyebrow pencil. I had the misfortune of utterly losing it and subsequently visited sephora for a replacement. I circled the store looking for it. Drat... it had changed locations since the last time I was here. I circled some more because no one was free to assist. Finally these two girls with super thick makeup done in the latest fashion trend etc ( including a nude lip color, which i found interesting since it kind of made her look like a barbie) asked super perkily .... "can i help you?" So I explained my situation.. they didn't really let me finish my query for the pencil before they started looking at me like deer in headlights and told me to wait in the SUPER LONG MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND LINE. They said that the cashier could look up my pencil on the sephora card (which again... its not that i didnt know what i needed.. just needed to know the location). Anyway, I looked at them with my patent "i'm not so pleased and are you kidding me face" and they just turned their gaze skyward. Whatever, I waited in line. Got up to the counter, cant remember her name, but one of the full time employees who is always super nice helped me out (and also let me know that they defs could have looked me up without me waiting in line). From this super helpful gal, I also got a blush rec... and overall i rate her a 5/5 and it is because of her alone that this review is three stars instead of 2. This Sephora is an okay Sephora. It's basically like everything else at Ross Park, actually--not the best example, but not usually the worst example. Pros: --A decent selection of products (not the really rare lines Sephora carries, but they're not one of the ones that are missing regular lines because of space issues). Things are generally in stock, I think I've only had one instance of something not being in stock. --When you get an SA to help you, they're generally very thorough and if they don't know about something, they'll ask one of their coworkers --I've never had them pretend that an SA is an actual makeup artist, unlike at other Sephoras Cons: --Sometimes it's hard to get help from the SAs, which can get very annoying, especially when there's a group of them standing off to the side having a conversation. --Only a few of them have knowledge about upcoming products. I'm not expecting them to spend all their free time online reading about makeup, but they could at least check Temptalia once or twice a week to keep informed, I always feel weird when I have to tell them about stuff. --The store sometimes has products in various spots for different displays and they don't always make sure that the actual section for that brand is stocked with everything, which can mean you have to go hunting through the store for a sunscreen or whatever. read more

I'm usually a bit wary of going into the mall on weekends, especially holiday weekends, since the sheer volume can make employees stressed out, impatient, and not be able to give you their absolute best service. Especially in a place like Sephora where I always need help, recommendations, and application tips, the weekends are generally just not a good idea for me. I was really blown away by how helpful everyone in the store was, especially given the crowds and how busy they were with the Makeup Forever promo and all the makeovers. I go hard at Sephora...usually the Walnut St. location but Ross Park is more convenient. I go there 2x/month and spend 200-500 each visit (I know thats awful). You'd figure at this point I'd be able to get some friggin' help from the sales GIRLS, but no. The only reason I go back to this location is because of the sales GUY. I don't know his name, but he has a shaved head with a spider tattoo and is AWESOME. Every time I'm there, he remembers me, my skin type, what we've gotten in the past and what I need. He spends times with me...he doesn't hawk over me and bug me. He's SO MUCH more knowledgeable than the other girls there who are just plain RUDE. I went there yesterday and unfortunately my guy wasn't there. I asked for help, and told the girl I wanted to try a new primer. She pointed at one, and while I was checking it out, I told her that I needed some new eye contour palettes and needed help picking one out. But, she had already walked away. Weird...? I continued looking at palettes my damn self, couldn't pick one out, so I said screw it I'll just get them all. I picked up a basket and threw 3 palettes in. The SECOND these birds saw me pick up 3 palettes they all stopped their little side convo and came hopping on over "can I help you" "would you like me to hold these at the register for you" blah blah blah...oh NOW you all are interested in helping me? When a minute ago you wouldn't even help me pick out a primer? I see you, ladies.... I continued, on my own, and took all of my product related questions to you tube. When I was finished about 90 minutes later I took my basket to check out. There was a laminated Sephora slip in my basket...I know exactly what this is...but I didn't put it there. When someone helps you pick out products, they give you their card with their ID and a barcode on it. This helps them "keep track" of who helped us pick out products. NO ONE helped me pick out anything. One of these girls actually slipped their card into my basket wanting credit for my purchases. How disgusting is that!!!! From now on, I'll be calling ahead to see if the gentleman employee is there. Otherwise, no thanks. Sephora, if you read these, you need to make this kid a manager or something (if he isn't already) and do some serious training/revamping. Judging by these reviews, I'm not the only person who thinks these girls are rude and only interested in commission, not actually helping the customer. I am so grossed out that some creep got credit for 300 bucks worth of goods. Transfer it to the guy, he's the only one who deserves it! read more

The following is an email I recently wrote to the Customer Service Department of Sephora, Inc. I was given a gift from your company. It was one of those samples of several fragrances and the ability to purchase a full size bottle of the chosen fragrance. This is my problem. I went to your store at the Ross Park Mall, Pittsburgh, PA on Sunday, 01/09/2010 to return the gift. I did not receive a gift receipt with the gift. I do not use your products. I don't care for your products. I have sensitive skin and will not use your products. The store gave me a gift card for $53.50, the cost of the gift plus the sales tax. This is absolutely useless to me. Your clerk suggested I buy other items in the store. I don't like the items in the store; therefore, will not buy those other "non-fragrance" items. She suggested I give the gift card to someone else. What would be the purpose of getting a gift from my employees if I only give it to someone else? That would simply be rude and inconsiderate of my employee's feelings! I want to be able to purchase an item I will use, and can use. I want the cash value of the product I returned to your store, unopened. By forcing me to purchase items at your store with a gift card, you are taking from me the freedom to shop where I want. This is quite contrary to acceptable customer service. If this is not settled in my favor, I will be forced to tell my employees, who also purchased this same type of item for their male supervisor. Additionally, I will forward this to the Better Business Bureau and the management of the Ross Park Mall. I could understand the necessity of the store credit if the item did not have your store name written all over the packaging included the red faux velvet drawstring bag which I also returned. You may have a policy regarding returns without a receipt and I understand the necessity of this if it were not so close to the end of the holiday season and if the package was not totally intact including the bag. Your immediate attention to this request will be most appreciated. Failure to reply will generate a letter to the CEO of Sephora, Inc. in your San Francisco, California office. I would not advise anyone to go to this store! Mean employees, always busy talking to each other and when you ask for help they give you this look like why are you interrupting them. I have spoke to the store manager once about this and she is just as bad. She talked to me like I was below her and stood there like some princess and believe me she needed to get a makeover more than anyone else! I will never go there again especially because nordstrom just opened and they have the same products there and more! Why spend a lot of money some where you are not treated well? read more
