I've always had great experiences at Sephora Retail chain with a selection of upmarket makeup, perfumes, beauty & skincare products. Especially this location in Westfield UTC I came here often since it's close to my daughter college. This store is big and clean, I love the wide selection of products, but sometimes they're not as well-stocked as I'd like. And the checkout line can get pretty long sometimes. Great customer service the girl who help me I forgot her name, from her and her knowledge helped me pick the right products . I'm appreciate and happy for it !. read more

I walked in with my boyfriend to get matched as I was departing with my YSL All Nighter foundation (sad when a company does reformulation and it's not up to standard). I was in here yesterday 1/20/26 at 10:58 am. There was one nice lady who was very helpful. I forgot her name, but she was wearing glasses and had black nails with different colored tips. She was amazing and so patient and looked to see if they had things we wanted in stock, but sadly they did not, I did find and purchased a beautiful Pat McGrath lips gloss. However when checking out is where I had a major problem. A young Hispanic lady was so rude to me. I didn't know what number to put in so I gave her my email. Then I wanted to make sure that I got the points so I asked what my mom's was and it was different. This lady rolled her eyes at me, let out a "ugh" and then didn't even put my purchase in a bag. I had to ask for one and then she again in a very very snooty tone said "here's your bag." It was appalling and I wanted to take the lip gloss back, but I didn't because I did not want to interact with someone so careless about the customer and their feeling. I came down here from OC to have a nice day with my mom and that all went down and made me so upset and sad by how this cashier treated me. Waited to be helped with a color match for legitimately 15 minutes. Ignored by all staff. Had to ask the greeter at the front and she said she'd send someone down. Waited another 10 minutes until I finally had to ask a 3rd person and they didn't even do a color match with the machine just swatched colors on my face. I was surprised at how disorganized and filthy this store was...especially in such a nice mall. Everything in the store was literally dirty and dusty. There was trash everywhere from people testing products. It's as if it's never been dusted or cleaned. This is the "soft glam" look that Gabi of Sephora at Westfield UTC mall helped me with. The following review is for their $75 Beauty Lesson that I booked the previous night. I wanted to try stretching my comfort zone. I was assigned beauty instructor Gabi, who also happened to be neurodivergent & was exactly the gal I didn't know I needed to see. We vibed instantly. She did one step at a time, explaining each step very kindly & knowledgeably, before having me try it on the other side of my face. Can you tell which side I did? Left or right? (Answer, the side with the less detailed eyebrow) I had moments of feeling like a fumbling & clumsy noobie, but was pleasantly surprised by how close I was to her example, especially after having never used makeup brushes before. She would light up, clapping & squealing excitedly every time I had an "aha" moment & got what she was trying to show me. It was very encouraging to see her so engaged & genuinely happy for my learning, one step at a time. I'm glad I did this. The lesson felt worth it & empowering despite me going in feeling self conscious & vulnerable. Gabi reassured me & quickly corrected me in a kind & patient way, saying to "be mindful in that area & try to slow down." She helped me in a "big sisterly" way, which was comforting & made me think of my swim instructor work. It felt like I traded spots with the frightened child clinging on as the knowledgable instructor showed them too, one step at a time, that this wasn't so bad after all. My favorite Sephora in San Diego. Sure it's usually crowded in there but I've the customer service always amazing and the staff are so helpful. I don't realize I was using the wrong type of cleanser for years and one of the staff members recommended that I use oil-free products and focus on serums and exfoliation rather toner. That has really made a difference in my skin. read more

I want to give a shout out to Sofie V for doing my makeup for a Halloween party! When I got to my appointment she already had everything set up and ready for my service where I didn't even need to wait. She had my favorite beauty products ready where I was surprised that she knew I liked and she told me that she saw all the things I have bought before in store on my profile. She was prepared! I asked for siren eyes and a snatched face and she understood the assignment! Sofia was really sweet and attentive to detail which I appreciated and she made sure that everything came out perfect! Customer service sucks. The person in the front today Friday, 2/16/24 @ 7:44pm (brunette) should not be at the front. She doesn't smile, greet, and when I asked for help I stood near the area and she nor a Sephora associate followed up. There's tons of workers with a basket but they pass right by. All these beauty and then some. I usually come here with my daughters and usually feel completely out of place when it comes to buying makeup and/or skin care. Lucky me, I have daughters who are well versed in beauty and skin care. On the one occasion when I did visit to shop for a light, covering foundation I was steered directly to a brand consultant. I didn't really care for that sales pitch as I would have preferred to see not just one but several brands as well as price ranges. For the most part, all the sales people there are quite knowledgeable and very friendly and accommodating. I like if you find something you do like, you can ask for a sample size of the product to try at home before making that big purchase. read more

I went to the UTC location this morning. I was the first one to enter the store. I arrived at 9:57am. I asked if they can help me find a pencil I needed and to look for lipstick. Since I previously bought the pencil, one of them was able to grab it for me. She said she will not be able to help me with the lipstick. I continued to wait for another person who was supposed to come and help. I waited for about 15 mins and the help did not come. Then I approached another lady to open it for me. People that work there are understaffed and stressed. There were many people at the store picking out door dash orders. Long story short, they did not have the lip gloss in stock after I waited and the line to check out my other product was overcrowded with people complaining. I asked for a free sample since I ended up waiting for 40 mins total from walking in to check out and they did not give me any. I get makeup rarely and I do not plan to be coming back to this location. Target or even Rite Aid would be a better experience. read more

First time visiting this location. Went to check Dior backstage concealer which they don't carry. I was almost about to leave the store when Luis offered his help and asked me if I would like to try the other Dior concealer and help me to find my skin tone match. He tried multiple different tones and we found my match and I ended up buying it. He even gave me a sample of a primer to try under my makeup. This is an example of great customer service which unfortunately I have never experienced in any Sephora stores in San Diego! Despite most locations, the staff tries to ignore you, at this store everyone was very friendly including the lovely cashier. Shout out to their capable manager who leads their team perfectly. I had my makeup done at Sephora for my engagement photos and Maddie was my makeup artist. Overall had a very good experience. My appointment started on time, we discussed the look I was going for and I shared pictures of what I liked. Maddie did great job creating the look I wanted and my makeup lasted all day. My only reason for docking a star is for a Sephora issue regarding mascara application. I considered having eyelashes applied but the only options are all over the top lashes which I didn't want. You can't bring your own lashes because they say it's unhygienic. So my only option was to have mascara applied. The problem with this is they only have the spiral bristle disposable lash brashes which do a terrible job applying mascara. We had to use a tool to separate my lashes and I ended up just buying my own mascara to touch up my lashes later because they were so clumped together. Either Sephora needs to offer a wider variety of lashes or allow people to bring their own that are brand new. Otherwise your best option is bring your own mascara and have the artist use that. Also, make sure to bring a jacket because the AC blasts right at the makeup station. I was shivering the whole time I sat there. read more

Even after using the camera scan app which is way off, ive left so frustrated I don't even come home with a sample because they wasted my time! This Sephora's is pretty small and the selection is a bit limited. I asked one of the associates to help me color match concealer, but then she got called up to the cash register and never came back. I waited around for about 5 minutes, and another associate came to ask if I needed any help. She was very patient and thorough and did swatches to help me color match. The only not so great thing is that it's hard to move around in the store because the aisles are pretty small. Everyone is still masked up because of covid, so I felt safe. read more

I made a last-minute appointment for full face makeup application at this location. My artist was Yatong and she did a stellar job! I don't wear makeup usually but I was going to a gala, and I decided that if there is a time to wear makeup, a formal gala would be the place. That being said, I basically just showed her a picture of my dress, told her I didn't want anything too crazy in terms of contouring but I wasn't afraid of a bold eye. She took that and ran with it and I couldn't have been happier with the result!! The reason for the dock in star is because this location was super busy when I arrived, and Yatong was unfortunately running about 30 minutes behind. It was definitely not her fault, but it seems like that location is woefully understaffed compared to the foot traffic it receives. Yatong definitely seemed a little frazzled, which I felt awful about, but she was still super sweet and professional. I would definitely come back to her again for future event makeup, but would take into account the possibility of a delay because it almost made me late to my event! read more

This is by far my favorite Sephora. I am a makeup noob so when I heard about the FREE services and classes Sephora provided, I had to check it out. The first time I signed up for On The Fly Eye was back in February, (apologies this post has been long overdue) I had DANIEL help me out and he gave me incredible beginner friendly tips and knew how to accentuate my most prominent features in ways I never knew how. He was super kind and answered all thousands of my questions. And maybe I'm being a little dramatic but i just never knew I could look the way he showed me. I felt like a queen. He really took his time with not just my eye area but my whole face, and allowed me to hold the mirror so I can really learn and teach myself for the future. Not once did he pressure me to buy anything and even offered me to come back if I ever needed help again. The experience overall made me feel so invigorated and I am so thankful. Another wonderful experience at Sephora was with JULIE. I walked in, no appointment, and I had just asked her if there was a possibility for one of the service openings. She happily took me in, all smiles and no fuss, and gave me a beautiful warm tones around my eyes. (Still a noob, not sure if that's the correct verbiage.) She even helped me fix the mess of my unthreaded bushy eyebrows and again, answered all my insecure questions. After she Cinderella'd me, she as well offered to have me come back if I have any further questions and she also did not pressure me to buy anything.
