I often browse this Sephora location for the past 3 years. Most of the time, any suggestions I got from the staff would be just ok. However, 2 weeks ago on Saturday I went in with a friend who needs help putting on her make up for an important day. A staff named Kerin (I hope I got her name right- she is an Asian girl with glasses,long hair and great natural looking makeup) helped us. She was so GREAT! I went to this Sephora three days ago and bought just a few items. I accidentally left the bag at another store in the mall. Luckily someone returned the bag to this Sephora. They tracked my order and called me telling me they had it saved in the back for me to pick up whenever I can. I was so sad I had lost it, and they called me three! days! later! :( I took my mom here so she can get her color matched. I don't know if it was because they were busy but I told them my mom needed a color match and that this is her first time here . I told the lady my mom has makeup on already. The lady was like oh it should be fine . So she put the powder to find her color. Then she applied the liquid on my moms cheek to find the color. I had a very bad experience today, this place is usually my go to place when i ran out of make up or if i want a new make up and if i want to get my make up done for some event. But today is the worst day I've been here. Staff are unfriendly and unhelpful they only talk to customers who looks nice and wearing expensive bags and etc. too bad that I'm wearing my work clothes today that they don't even bother asked me what i need. I've only been to the Sephora at UTC, and my experience has been wonderful. The staff are pleasant and professional. They give you just the right amount of attention. When you need help, they do a good job. I purchased most of my make-up from MAC, because I have very sensitive skin and believe in the quality of their products. Unfortunately their staff were not very friendly. The only time they would really give you their attention is when you have a make-up session with them, because that's when they can really sell you on products. My friends introduced me to shopping at Sephora with a few more minor make-up items. Then I notices how knowledgeable and helpful the staff are. I felt welcome there as well. I found the quality of their products very competitive with MAC, and I have a lot more varieties to choose from. For 20 years, I never really were completely satisfied with my foundation, because the color/shade was always a little off. With the help from Sephora's staff, I finally found one that I feel completely confident with. I've been receiving a lot of complement how good my skin looks! The reason I didn't give a five star rating: I wished they suggested what products to use, because it's such an easy way to learn about doing make-up and what's new. Thank you Sephora! read more

I was visiting from NJ and had to go to this Sephora to do some shopping back in May. I'm a long time member and regularly visit my local store without any problems. But at the La Jolla location an old lady with short cropped hair came up to me and immediately assumed I was looking for some "Jack Black" product even though I told her I wasn't looking for that. She kept going on about "we don't have Jack Black, we don't have Jack Black, Black, Black, Black...". It was clear that she wasn't listening to what I was saying. And being a person of African American descent, I wasn't too happy with her repeated use of the word "black". I pointed out the product I wanted which was on the shelf and she admitted that they did have it in stock. She never apologized for her confusion. That lady really needs to retire as she is not helping the Sephora brand by irritating the customers. And with incidents like that one at Starbucks, I'm sure Sephora would not want that type of negative notoriety associated with their company. Especially in the current climate. read more

Everybody in this location is super nice and helpful but the reason this gets 5 stars is for Nate with the blue hair. He was so sweet and nice and really just made me feel at home. He also hella gassed me up even I looked a mess. I literally downloaded the yelp app and made an account just to write this review because Nate was that great! I never leave reviews but I went in this morning for a new shade of Kat Von D concealer and Daniel helped me not only find the perfect shade but also recommend the most beautiful blush and highlighter!!! I've never even tried using blush before but I instantly fell in love with his recommendation!! He is a true artist and total sweetheart. Thank you again Daniel!!! As with most chain stores, this Sephora is pretty much the same as any other Sephora. Great mix of high end (YSL, Dior, Lancome, etc) and mid-range (Benefit, Urban Decay, MUFE, Stila, etc) cosmetics. I know this particular store unfortunately does not carry Bobbi Brown and CoverFX right now - maybe more that I'm not aware of. There is also probably the best selection of fragrances you can get outside of a department store or fragrance store. Great selection of hair products as well, and I also saw that they started carrying Bumble & Bumble recently - yay! I've always had great service here, but I've definitely seen less helpful sales associates as well. They're always willing to give you samples if you ask for them, but I've rarely been offered samples even with large purchases. Both times I've needed hair product help, the same gentleman assisted me and was very knowledgeable but not pushy about products. The only complaint I have is that on two occasions, after I've received help from an associate, I've been asked to give positive reviews on a survey. On the most recent occasion, the sales associate (who I won't name), after giving me a pretty good V.I.B makeover, asked me to take a survey online, which I agreed to. She asked me to mention her as well. I really would've if she'd just left it at that. But then she asked me about 5 times if I really would...and then she proceeded to draw 4 hearts on my receipt and then pretty much told me to give them 10's on everything and to make sure I wrote nice things about her. Leave me alone, woman! I would've given you an amazing praise on that survey if you hadn't been so pushy about it! I know it's not a huge deal, but I'm annoyed that it's happened to me on multiple occasions and only at this store. read more

a lot of the beauty (no pun intended) of sephora is lost on me because i don't really wear makeup. i went there with a friend the other day to pick up some face wash and a gift for their stepmom. the sales staff are pretty in your face with their customer service, but in a helpful way. we were wandering around confused and she eventually lead us to a product that was just perfect for my friend's stepmom. they know their products and that's reassuring. read more

The five stars is for the service I got. Yesterday I went in to buy lipstick for the first tim, so naturally I was clueless of what to get and where to look. I asked for some help and was directed to Hillary who was SO friendly and helpful and really helped me find a good lip stain and explained to me the differences between lipsticks and how to wear them. She was so sweet and made the experience so much better and easier. I will admit that it was much pricier than I anticipated, I spent $54 on lip stain and a lip pencil but idk if that's normal for makeup. read more

Normally I love Sephora but today the team was on the struggle bus. I asked and employee about a product that was out of stock and instead of helping me decide on another product she seemed annoyed at my questions and dismissive. I waited 15 minutes in line and the employee behind the counter could not find my insider account. Finally, I asked her if there was another way to access my account and she found it but could not apply the coupon that I got in the mail. a manager helped her and after 30 minutes I was on my way. Perhaps I'm too impatient but there was no part of today's experience that was easy or fun and make up should be fun. read more

Holyyyy crap. I ask myself 'why didn't I come here sooner?!' Service here is incredible. Everyone is so knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to help! I've never visited a full store, I used to stick with the closest to me which is a small store inside JCPenny, and now I've seen the light. They had everything that I needed in stock, which was really exciting. Charisa (sp?) was wonderful and pretty much did my makeup without me asking which I loved. It was New Year's Eve and I didn't have to wait long for anything either, they know how to handle crowds for sure! I think I've found my usual store, I can't go back to small stores where nothing is in stock, you have to wait 20 mins to be helped, and you end up having a bad experience. Love Sephora for it's plethora of beauty products and brands. Brightly lit, great vibe. The sales people here were kinda "in your face" but not as bad as some other places---you can deal with it. I usually go here to buy my Dior mascara (looove it!), and Fekkai products when needed. I also go here when I'm considering trying out a new scent....I def. prefer it over your regular department store's fragrance department because the sales clerk isn't looming in your shadow stalking you.... read more

I used to work as a lead at this Sephora back when I was in college and I still have some friends who work there so I take a lil bit of what the ladies in their other reviews had said a bit personally. I always like going to this store b/c Fashion Valley is always so packed, its nice to have time to browse without someone all up in your grill every time you walk down an aisle. Huge bonus that you can always get samples of products to try before you buy, including fragrance. Don't be afraid to ask! However if you are a teeny bopper girl looking to get their makeup done from free, just cuz - come on, you know you're not buying any of the products so please don't waste their time. Give 'em a break ladies. If its not as clean or the customer service isn't as good as Fashion Valley - well that's also due to the volume of the store, UTC as a whole isn't as big of a draw as FV so less sales = less employees = less attention can be paid to the finer points like labeling, ensuring the stock on the shelf is filled etc. I feel the pain of the employees currently there b/c you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, because what happens most of the time is you want to service people but there's no one so you do your busy work with upkeep and suddenly get slammed with a dozen customers in your section so you don't have time to do upkeep on your shelves. Its not like working in the department store, in Sephora you have maybe 4-5 people on the floor to work the entire store every brand from fragrance to skincare, while in a department store there's 3-4 people per brand. read more

In the past I definetely would have given this store 4 or maybe 5 stars. However, I feel that it has gone downhill in makeup supply, presentation of the products, and customer service. There are alot of empty shelves in smashbox and other well-known brands such as Too-faced, nars, and even the sephora line. In addition, product is not well organized and looks like it was just tossed on the shelves. I feel that for the price of many of the items, the presentation should be a bit cleaner and more organized. read more

I have not always had the best experience at this very Sephora. And truth be told I was not happy to have to come and return my items here. Experience with returning my online items: My first encounter was with Britney. She returned my items with no fuss, a few questions and I was on my way. My experience was okay, nothing horribly happened. In fact, I had ordered these buxom lipsticks that unfortunately felt like hardened crayons on my lips. She suggested that I try the Nars Audacious line. On my way to that Nars line, I met KYLA, she was amazing, and had a sparkling personality. She was welcoming and her makeup was out of this world perfect. I was actually telling my mom about her makeup this morning on the way to work, and how flawless her look was. Anyway, we talked about lipsticks and some sample/starter kits (which are my favorites)... unfortunately I have a lot of mascaras that are just waiting to be used... so kits were not the answer at the moment, I guess lipsticks were the answer...after all us women and some men can never have to many! So on to Mr. KELBY, the hottie that he is... he helped me find some lipsticks from the Sephora line. I went with three colors from the Sephora Rogue line. The coverage is nice, thick, and smooth. KELBY is very informative and very fun to talk to as well. He is very energetic and his suggestions were definitely appreciative. I do not know if I hit some sort of a jackpot with the people were awesome with customer service yesterday!!! KYLA and KELBY, are the superstars at this location, I was very satisfied with their customer service. THey bumped this review 3 stars!!! read more

this review is written exclusively for their staff Linsey . About two weeks ago , I went to the store to look for a lipstick but had a hard time finding it . So I approached Linsey who just literally stood at the entrance and asked for help. To my surprise , she didn't do anything but simply replied " no , we don't have it ." How do you so sure it is out of stock without walking a few steps to check the lipstick counter ?! there are more than hundreds of lipsticks there and you know every single item's inventory quantity.? Luckily, I had another employee helped me and found the lipstick . The girls seem really focused on up-selling and I've caught them lying about certain products. A recent incident involved them lying about what they even had in stock! The most irritating sephora I have ever been into. I was in there for twenty minutes trying on different makeup and was approached by six, count em six, employees asking me if I needed help. Like. Idk about anyone else but I find that infuriating, exhausting and almost embarrassing. Do I look like I'm going to steal something? Can I please just try on the makeup? I even got one employee say to me, "oh heyyyy I noticed you wondering around a lot...can I help you find something???" In a very pointed way. No. I want to try on the makeup before I buy it. Thats why I came into the store. To wander around and try on makeup!!! Another employee walked over to inspect me trying out an eyebrow pencil and instruct me how to appy it... in the same way I was already applying it. Eventually I was talked into a product I didn't want that I will be returning. Never shopping here again. One employee asking me if I need help is ncie. Beauty GALORE. Rather than reading Allure or some other beauty magazine, you could just browse the aisles here and absorb the wonderful world of cosmetics and skincare. I consider this a more expensive version of Ulta, but often worth it. Sephora carries MAC. Enough said. Their perfume selection is rather extensive and they even have a little chart for you to determine what kind of perfume is recommended for you. There are some very nice ladies eager to help (sell to) you. This gets rather annoying after a while, so I've discovered the power of headphones. You don't even need to have music on. Just make sure your are conspicuously wearing headphones and usually everyone will leave you alone. That's how shopping was originally intended to be. read more

I give Sephora props for doing what it does well. They have a huge selection, and they surprisingly still have my L'eau par Kenzo perfume (the ONLY perfume I have ever owned, ever). I should stock up because I doubt they'll sell this perfume forever, or that Kenzo will even make this perfume forever. Anyways.... I used to dig all the brands, Nars, Lorac, Stila, Benefit, etc. but since I'm going au naturale nowadays, I only go there for Bare Minerals products. Bare Minerals has hit the jackpot; they have GREAT eyeliner colors, blushes and foundations, while at the same time being all natural with no talc, polymers, silicone, parabens, etc. Although, I opt for Afterglow's Mattifying powder (no color) over Bare Minerals' Mineral Veil any day. And as far as I know you can only get Afterglow on their website. read more

Their customers services need to be improved. I was looking for foundation primer to bright my skin tone especially purple/blue tones in it. The lady she helped me just suggested me products which I was not interested. She doesn't have much knowledge for products and her attitude was very bad. In the end, I found another lady helped me, she got me what I want right away and showed me around very well. Hope they will improve the quality of customer service. One last thing, I was looking for mini Farsali, the lady helped me out, she looked and told me they don't have it anymore. I never liked this Sephora store. It is so messy and I just feel like it's always hard for me to get someone's attention (maybe because I go at the end of the day during the weekends). When I ask for something, they always lead me to the more expensive brands, and when I ask for a cheaper alternative, I've gotten responses like, 'That's what drugstores are for," or "you get what you pay for" but in a negative way. read more

Just purchased a different foundation and compact here last weekend. Needed a change as well as feed my makeup addiction. I am so glowing white and never need help matching my color, but I do want an honest opinion of how good the product really is. SPF is a big deal to me and I want something that is cruelty-free to animals and does not contain a lot of crap that will clog my pores. I was helped by an associate named Naja who was great about comparing brands and finding what I like. She made it simple and quick which was great because I was shopping with a baby and a few kids that didn't appreciate cosmetics like I do :) This location wasn't too overcrowded or messy either and that was a nice change compared to the other Sephora stores I have been to. read more
