I love Sephora - any Sephora. With that said, the people at this store are a little less friendly and helpful than the ones at the UTC store. Maybe it's just because I'm a guy and they don't know I do makeup. Make sure you sign up for their rewards points. It's free and you get deals on stuff and other cool things when you buy enough for their better membership thingie. They have an AMAZING return policy rivaling that of nordstrom. If you don't like something, bring it back and get something else. Lets you try out things without any risk. I love this place. Although it is extremely difficult to get assistance (being they are so busy) you are always greeted. I walked in yesterday and after looking completely lost for 5 minutes, an associate came up to me and asked if I needed help. Took the time to take off all of my makeup, do a new application with what brand I was looking for. I do not remember her name but she was awesome! I came back to this store because I happened to be in the mall and wanted to pick up something small, the girl at the front was very helpful and told me where to find the beauty blender cleanser when I asked. Once I actually got into the store, though, I decided I also wanted to try and find a lip gloss. I looked a little on my own and didn't see what I wanted. Honestly, in this store, if you don't know exactly what you want (ie you actually need help), and it's even semi-busy, don't even try to ask anyone for help because it is such a frustrating and tedious process-- bottom line, just shop online if you're able to! As far as improvement, I really think they should try to get a larger store and then they can have more artists working. This is one of the smallest Sephoras I've been to and it's so tightly packed that even if there's just a normal amount of people in the store, it feels insanely overwhelming. Right now, I'd say they probably can't have more people working because of the size of the location, but if they moved to a larger place, all of the issues could be solved! read more

I can buy make up here AND they let me bring my chihuahua in without making a fuss (actually everyone petted her!) ?! love it But plain and simple, I've always loved Sephora. It's addictive. They even have a rewards program that you can participate in for free. The first rewards are at 100-200 pts, which is easy to get if you're like me and you buy your 6 mos supply of makeup all at once. \ Addictive. I can't say that enough. Talking with the associates about favorite makeup brands is like talking to a friend. We need a sephora in north county for sure! This is my first review because I have to say that I had the most incredibly customer interaction that I have ever had at any retail store. Margaret is amazingly sweet and knowledgeable. I was so impressed by this Sephora. I headed over to do some Christmas shopping this week (note--the last shopping days before Christmas). I got there around 3pm--needless to say, a very crowded time! The store is pretty small, but to be fair, I am spoiled by the San Francisco store, which is bigger than most of the stores at Fashion. Still, the selection was less simply because the store was smaller. Minus one star. Everything else was so much better than I could have expected. The people working were so friendly and helpful, which generally has been my experience at Sephora... but I didn't expect it, given the crowds, lines, and general holiday rush. It was such a pleasure to shop there, despite the crazed crowds. When I finally selected all of my gifts, I got in the (very long) line. When I made it to the register, the man helping me was so nice! He told me about their promotion--a $10 mini benefit package. I am so glad he told me, as I love those deals--they tend to be great--but it was so crowded I didn't have the time or space to check out what it was. He didn't pressure me at all--just let me know about it. I definitely added one into my purchase! I tried several times during a week to get one, but never could reach anyone. That being said, they were very helpful in the store when I came in explaining to them I tried to make the appointment. I was greets at the door and as I made my way to the back the nicest associate asked me if she could help me. Great selection of products and a super attentive staff. Even if they are busy, they will try their best to help you out. Most impressive though, is their no-questions-asked return policy. I think all Sephora stores do this, but my sister mentioned to me a while ago that Sephora has an unbelievably amazing return policy: "you can return products that are like, half used, a year later for reasons such as the color not matching your skin tone anymore or that it's irritating your skin or something". I thought this was too good to be true; I've had plenty of situations where I was dissatisfied with my makeup/skincare for one reason or another, but never thought that I'd be able to have the luxury of returning or exchanging an item, free of charge, just because I wasn't crazy about it anymore/to begin with. But, just as my sister said, the cashier gladly took back a used foundation I brought in, even apologized profusely to me for the inconvenience (in my head I thought, well, it's my fault for picking the wrong color and not doing my research beforehand) and voila, popped a brand new foundation one shade lighter in my bag--no questions asked, no need to pull out my credit card; just swap one for the other, in and out. Testing my luck, I mentioned a lipstick I bought maybe a month ago that really didn't sit well on my lips, and I had thrown away the receipt. "No problem at all," said the cashier. "If you don't have a receipt we can only give you store credit--" Bingo. Score. I wonder what they do with all these products that have only been used once... hopefully turn them into testers or something. This Sephora is awesome! My friends and I stopped in to do some shopping and all the associates were amazing! They offered to color-match our skin to different foundations for free and when they heard my friend was interested in buying a pallet, they offered her a make-over and taught her how to apply different types of make-up. I talked to an associate about some different fake tanners I have tried and she gave me a sample of a product I was curious about. I usually exclusively shop at Ulta, but I think I just converted to a Sephora girl! :) read more

I normally have a good experience even though sometimes it is cramped and super busy but the selection here can't be compared to any other Sephora in San Diego. I went in to return a cleanser I just tried but didn't like, after that process I walked to skincare area and asked to be helped to find a new cleanser. The sales rep took me directly to Peter Thomas Cleanser and said how amazing it is and I took his word purchased it. I follow the instructions he and the bottle both gave me. My face got supper dried out and irritated around my moth nose and forehead area that it caused a yeast infection around my mouth. Went to my doctor and showed her the cleanser I tried and she knew it was the cleanser that caused it, since that cleanser can dry out your face so bad. The sales rep never told me to be cautious or the side affects or be careful it can dry your skin fast if so break it back NOTHING !!! Now I am out of $70 from medications and doctors co pays ! I will never take any advice or suggestions from their associates. I called the store spoke to the manager and was offered an apology and free mini facial ! So I'm out $70 plus I had to leave work to go to my doctors appointment and all you can offer is a mini facial !?! I understand all faces are different and react different but i would of been told that this strong cleanser can cause my skin to secretly dry out I wouldn't of never bought it. Walked in to recently to check something out for my sister and to see what, if anything I could use for my Halloween costume this year. No one greeted me, no one asked me if I needed any assistance, no one acknowledged my existence in the store. Hell, I felt like the employees were purposely immersed in deep conversation with each other so as to not interact with customers. The store wasn't that crowded, I mean it was a weeknight, and I didn't hear one employee ask anyone if they needed help or if they were ok. I probably could've walked out with products in my pockets and no one would've known. For the record, I didn't. I tend to avoid Fashion Valley, as a whole, because I always feel like everyone there, (patrons but most importantly, employees), are snobby, stuck up, a-holes. This experience demonstrates my logic. The only reason why I would come back, would be if I find that this store has something the Otay Ranch Town Center location doesn't have (like a larger selection of Sephora brand fake lashes). Or if I can't get something quick enough if ordered online. Sad thing is that I absolutely LOVE Sephora to pieces. But if I knew that I'd be ignored..? Well, I'll take that long ass drive down to Chula Vista's Otay Ranch instead. Even more tragic is that I love makeup, a lot. I love Lacie! I honestly think that she is perfect for what I am looking for a makeup consultant. Many things she raves about I sincerely end up loving!! I switched many makeup products with her help and it looks AMAZING. Now, when I do my makeup I'm happy to get the results I really always wanted! I love sephora! Sadly, this location in particular lacks in so many categories. I have given this location countless chances, but each time, the same associates give me the same disappointing service. This location can get quite busy on the weekends, so I tend to venture into the store in the early mornings. This means less customers, which is suppose to mean more customer service, right? Not here. I have seen SAs walk right past me 5 times in one visit, and when I do need help, it takes me quite a while to find one willing to help me [I've seen 3 SAs helping one customer]. It doesn't make it any better that this location is often low on stock; they can't help the high traffic they get compared to other stores. All I ask is that the sales associates be trained to help everyone of ALL ages. I promise that there are young crazy makeup lovers, like myself, willing to spend more money than most older women. read more

I have been going to this Sephora for a while to get my make-up done for various event. As a VIB Rouge, I take advantage of this esp. since the make-up sessions are free!!! Today I had Sunny as my make-up consultant and she is BY FAR my favorite!!!! If you are to get your make-up done, be sure to try to get it with her! ((She basically works there 5 days a week!!!)) She went through a mini skin prep before my make-up application ensuring that the make-up goes on clean and even. She showed me the products she used and even gave me an awesome print out of the price, facts, and online ratings of the stuff she used!!! ((Super helpful!!!)) When it came time for the application of make-up she took her time doing so. The consultation/make-up appointments usually run to about 45 minutes or so, but she took the extra minutes to make sure my make-up was PERFECT. As she was applying the make-up she made sure to explain what she was doing and why she was using certain products instead of the other. She was very honest and was not pushy for sales. You can tell she just wants you to look good! If you are to get your make-up done, just be sure to request Sunny!!!!!! read more

I love this place. Im like a fat kid in a candy shop here. Everytime I walk in, Im always greeted and asked if I need help with anything. Unlike MAC's makeup artists, Im helped each and everytime; even if im there on my makeupless days with a backpack, looking like a kid asking for free samples. Speaking of samples, these people are always willing to give me samples of stuff so I can test it out at home. I've been looking for new primers for my foundation and the other day I went there, I was sent home with two product samples. The return policy is amazing here too. You can return used makeup if its not working out for you, (breaking your skin out, too dark, whatever the problem.) The makeup artists also test makeup out for you and do color matches for foundations as well. (They have prom dates for various highschools marked on a calendar, and wont do free testing sessions day of. :P) These people here are amazing and offer super good customer service. This is the fifth Sephora I have tried, and I have zero complaints about the first four - all in Phoenix, AZ. I have always found the stores easy to navigate, full of smiling, helpful people, and genuinely enjoyable for make up and beauty care nerds (hi). The rewards cards and plentiful samples are icing on the cake. After I moved to Coronado, I was in need of a few things, so I took a trip to Fashion Valley on a Saturday. When I walked into Sephora, my stomach dropped. The store is deep but narrow, though overall on the smaller side, and it was PACKED. I don't know if it just seemed like it because of SO MANY PEOPLE, but it the aisles were really narrow. I spent several minutes pressed against the wall that holds a mediocre selection of hair products trying to pick something for to calm my curly hair down from its humidity-induced rage, but eventually got sick of being pushed and shouldered. I don't think I've ever had a faster Sephora trip - I abandoned the hunt for hair products, grabbed my go-to mascara, and got in line. I DID get a good sample from Ouidad, thanks to my beauty points. The next time I went in, a couple of weeks later, I knew exactly what product I needed, which was good, because this trip was a replay of the previous one, again packed, and no employees even made eye contact with me. Fortunately, I had great timing in getting in line and was out of there in no time. The next time I needed something, I decided to just use the website, but the product I needed, that I have never had a trouble acquiring before, was out of stock. :/ I'm so disappointed in Sephora, and although I will continue to use their website and look forward to finding a location that is not a nightmare. The boyfriend and I went to the mall yesterday in search of a gift for my mother, and when he asked, "Are we making our obligatory Sephora trip?" I frowned and said, "No way." Still love Sephora, and I'm going to chalk this store up as the exception to the rule. Oh, but the Ouidad sample I got was an answer to my prayers to the hair gods, so, that's awesome. I really liked this Sephora. They have a big selection of skin care and I loved that! They carry giorgi armani foundation which a lot of other Sephora's don't have. The girls there are super helpful and very nice they help you find what you are looking for. I was helped by Sarah who had awesome cool hair and was so nice she helped me find my shade in foundation and also recommended me a cleanser that I love! Currently standing inside the store. Sephora is so amazing for the variety, but the service at this location is lacking. I asked someone to get me a specific YSL foundation and they got the shade but the incorrect product. I had to drive back to the store and exchange it. I stood in a 10 minute line for the exchange. I then went to perfume area to see if there was anything I liked. I was ignored completely and the 3 people around me were all asked if they were finding everything okay. Um...I have come here several times when they are busy and I will give you a pass at the first or second time, but three times a charm. I'm still standing inside the store and still have not been helped. I will just go to Nordstrom in the future so this can all be avoided. read more

This Sephora is well stocked, clean, and has a great selection! The only thing is, the store is narrow and super crowded so aisles are packed and you're constantly having to squeeze past customers and workers. Workers aren't as friendly and welcoming (some) but the girl at the front was really sweet (to me). The other workers kind of ignored me. I was patiently waiting for someone to help me with a color match for bare minerals pressed powder foundation and there were workers everywhere restocking and cleaning. Not a single worker in a timespan of 15 minutes offered me assistance as I waited by the makeover counter. Finally I flagged down a girl while she was restocking and asked if someone could help with a color match. Without looking up, she said "for what?" And I told her the BM powder foundation, which she responded with "yeah give me 5 minutes" (still didn't look up). She comes over and finds one and she tests it on my cheek and says "perfect!" Only to realize there isn't any left on the shelf (though she didn't bother checking the drawer or back room...) so she went with the next shade over and was like "this will do too". Giiiiiirl... I'm not spending $30 on an almost perfect foundation. Mind you, I never used pressed powder foundation before, I've always used liquid but wanted a pressed powder for the convenience. I kindly took it and literally put it back 2 seconds later after I checked the mirror and its tones looked off with my skin tone. Didn't provide the right coverage. Ended up getting my usual liquid foundation and Sephora brand translucent powder (normally costs $16). They didn't have anymore so the girl up front had someone check the backroom and sure enough they had the old packaging powder (slightly less than the new packaging) and score!! Only $7 instead of $16. Felt bad though, a girl after me asked about it and then they didn't bother mentioning they had any more old packages in the back.... not sure if it's because of the lessened price or what but can't complain. I got my deal. Just wish they made the same offer to her. Didn't mention it at allllll. Checked out with my Sephora rewards card, line was long, girl who rang me up didn't bother asking if I wanted to redeem my points for anything, nor did she offer me any samples. (Maybe it's just this Sephora? Or does Sephora just no longer give samples or use tissue paper when bagging items? It's been a few months since I've gone makeup shopping).. Eh. I don't usually give reviews but Justin at the fashion valley Sephora was amazing. While I was in booking a make-up appointment she commented on how we both have the same kind of hair, thick, dried out and sometimes frizzy. She stopped everything she was doing and showed me the perfect products to use. She used a straightener to do my hair and when I left I felt like I had just had my hair done by an expert. I couldn't believe how friendly and yet so professional Justin was toward me. She even explained to me, in great detail, why we need to use lots of heat when straightening our hair.
